After perusing the menu online, my daughter and I were so excited to try Dime Store. Unfortunately, the food underdelivered. It took me a little while to find parking downtown on a busy Sunday afternoon. By the time I did though, our wait was almost over. The ambiance was lovely and I especially appreciated the huge waiting area to spread out and relax. I had the famous duck bop hash; based on the description, it should have been incredible but wasn't. It had all the right ingredients, and each was high- quality, yet together they didn't sing. This would have merited a 4 star review, but the malpractice on my daughter's dish was egregious. Again, a well composed dish and close to something we love to make at home, but almost every vegetable in the Mexican corn hash was undercooked, so the flavors never developed. All in all, a disappointing experience given the many other great places to enjoy. We wouldn't return. read more

The wait to get in was definitely worth it! The servers and managers were so friendly and knowledgeable. They guided us on which items to order and the food was amazing! Yum. Yum. Yum. Stopped here by chance for breakfast thanks to my fellow Yelpies making such great reviews about this place. There is street parking, however, they also recommend parking in the parking garage and they do valet which is very nice. Arrived on Friday morning, and it was pretty packed but the wait time was just 10-15 minutes. Once sat our server came over right away and make really good recommendations. What I like is that their menu isnt vast but it appears they are really good at the things they do make. Oh, the OJ was probably some of the best I've had. No pulp which I like and was just really tasty. Ordered the duck hash. My goodness, that stuff was just amazing. Totally recommend. I got the eggs scrambled though. I can't believe I never reviewed Dime Store. I've been here countless times. I went again this weekend before heading to the cultural center. Dime Store is the breakfast/ brunch place I always recommend to people coming in from out of town. And, for us locals, since most of use don't spend time downtown. It's nice to go in the mornings before the area gets too crowded. I'm actually shocked that the owner(s) haven't moved locations to a larger place in the same area because the inside, while cute, it is very small. Dime Store does not take reservations. But the staff turn over tables very quickly. The food is consistently good and changes with the season and the chefs choice. The service is impeccable. read more

They were even accommodating to our request for a booth! Lauren was friendly and helpful with the menu. Last stop before heading home from a weekend trip, we chose Dime Store in Downtown Detroit. Having read the reviews we expected a wait but wanted the experience. When we arrived (they don't take reservations) we put our name in - 45min wait. They nailed the time and in 45min we were ordering. There was a large waiting atrium which had lots off plush seating. Parking on street is available or a garage across the street. The interior was small, cool, hip vibe. Fun 70s decor with a large bar and seating which looked fun. We opted for a table. Orders were taken immediately and drinks quickly followed. Maria was super efficient and checked on us regularly. I ordered the corned beef hash which came with legit shredded corned beef, potatoes, brussel sprouts, eggs and a cool horseradish sauce/topping. My wife order the grits with sausage and egg. Both were excellent. We could only eat half of the generous portions and got boxes to go. Give yourself time to deal with the wait and don't sweat it. We arrived to have brunch on a game day so it was packed and busy and we were told that it would be about an hour or more wait but we decided to get on the waitlist and walk around. They took my number and let me know a text would be sent when the table was ready. When we arrived back, the place was not as busy and not as loud and it created a nice spot to sit down and have a bite. We ordered the waffles that we decided to share and we had the orange creamsicle adult drink as well as the peach mimosa. The mimosa was okay but the orange creamsicle, I could have had a few of them. The waffle had me wishing we each had ordered our own because unlike other waffles this was light and airy and had a great flavor to them. For starters, my lamb was cold and so I had to send it back to begin with. Further, the lamb had little to no flavor; it needed a sauce or something. The restaurant is a bit small but I like the set up, it reminds me of an old diner. Also, I recommend making reservations ahead of time because I saw some people waiting quite a while to be seated. I ordered the bacon and avocado omelette with home fries. The omelette was amazing (filled with extra bacon inside). The home fries were super crispy just like I like them! The waitress suggested the biscuit, which was homemade, but I did not like it because it was very dry. They have this homemade blueberry jam, that was really good. There's a small bar inside the restaurant but they have limited options. I ordered a French 75 with cognac, but no cognac was available. So I had the original French 75 with gin. I came in a Monday around 11:30 so lunch time. Parking was rough but weekdays downtown usually are. It was pretty busy but I only waited a few minutes for a table for 2. The person right before me a party of 7 was told it was a 35 min wait; it's not a very large place so not surprising. Bathrooms are in a main area outside of the restaurant but it was nice and clean. Morgan was our server, she was fantastic! I ordered Veggie omelette (added chicken), potatoes and multigrain toast. Toast came with butter and what seemed to be homemade strawberry jam.
