We arrived to have brunch on a game day so it was packed and busy and we were told that it would be about an hour or more wait but we decided to get on the waitlist and walk around. They took my number and let me know a text would be sent when the table was ready. When we arrived back, the place was not as busy and not as loud and it created a nice spot to sit down and have a bite. We ordered the waffles that we decided to share and we had the orange creamsicle adult drink as well as the peach mimosa. The mimosa was okay but the orange creamsicle, I could have had a few of them. The waffle had me wishing we each had ordered our own because unlike other waffles this was light and airy and had a great flavor to them. There were so many great options but we still had places we wanted to try out but this definitely is a spot I'd tell folks who are in the area to go try out. read more

I would recommend this restaurant. This has been on my restaurant list for over a year and I finally made it. It was definitely worth it. The restaurant is a bit small but I like the set up, it reminds me of an old diner. Also, I recommend making reservations ahead of time because I saw some people waiting quite a while to be seated. I ordered the bacon and avocado omelette with home fries. The omelette was amazing (filled with extra bacon inside). The home fries were super crispy just like I like them! The waitress suggested the biscuit, which was homemade, but I did not like it because it was very dry. They have this homemade blueberry jam, that was really good. There's a small bar inside the restaurant but they have limited options. I ordered a French 75 with cognac, but no cognac was available. So I had the original French 75 with gin. I can't believe I never reviewed Dime Store. I've been here countless times. I went again this weekend before heading to the cultural center. Dime Store is the breakfast/ brunch place I always recommend to people coming in from out of town. And, for us locals, since most of use don't spend time downtown. It's nice to go in the mornings before the area gets too crowded. I'm actually shocked that the owner(s) haven't moved locations to a larger place in the same area because the inside, while cute, it is very small. Dime Store does not take reservations. But the staff turn over tables very quickly. The food is consistently good and changes with the season and the chefs choice. The service is impeccable. read more

Went with the General Tso's Benedict (what a crazy concept - on rice, nonetheless - not an English muffin. She did the jerked chicken has which was delicious and HUGE portion. Great bar - but not for this conference attendee if I wanted to stay awake after brunch. Korean Fries were just ok - don't know what would have improved them. I was really surprised to arrive at the Dime Store on a Sunday morning and not see a line and a lot of empty tables. I had anticipated a long wait. We sure lucked out. The place did get pretty full by the time we finished our brunch, but still without a long line outside. The service could have been better though. I placed an order for a Bloody Mary, took a while to get it and when I did get it, our waitress placed it on the table and quickly left without asking if we were ready to order our food. I really hate when they do that. I understand why they do it, but it still bothers the hell out of me. My wife ordered their Jerk Chicken Hash, and I ordered their Pork Belly Grits. The jerk chicken hash came with bell peppers, onions, grilled pineapple and house potatoes and topped with eggs and a cilantro lime crema. The dish was ok. The chicken was good, could have used more chicken and been a bit more spicy. The pineapple however wasn't grilled. It was served diced, it was cold and hard. If done correctly, I really think they have taken advantage of the pineapple and should have made it stand out. It could have been used to complete the chicken, but instead it was just placed on the dish as an afterthought. Perhaps cooking the peppers and onions would have probably done the trick. The pork belly grits came with two eggs and topped with pork belly, arugula-almond pesto and chicharron crumble. I love grits and pork belly is just ok to me, but grits with pork belly just didn't click with me. The pesto sauce that was used was delicious, and the grits were tasty. They were creamy and cheesy and very flavorful. Overall I would say my experience is a 3.5 but rounded up. The service did get better, and the food was good but definitely has potential. I would most likely try other dishes though. read more

I've been to this place many times, and usually it's good. I decided to order the lamb hash this time though and I was very disappointed. For starters, my lamb was cold and so I had to send it back to begin with. Further, the lamb had little to no flavor; it needed a sauce or something. Made a search on Yelp for a good brunch place in Detroit for the weekend and Dime Store was close by. It was absolutely packed and, we found out, for good reason! We tried the corned beef hash, since corned beef is supposed to be a Detroit staple. Instead of being shredded potatoes, they do diced fried potatoes instead. Mixed with the generous chunks of beef though, it really worked. The Sunnyside eggs on top were perfect with oozy yolk. The mushroom omelet was very flavorful, with just the right of goat cheese to not overpower the rest of the dish. Service was super friendly, and the vibes in general were immaculate. It's been a while since I've been to Detroit and it makes me happy that places like this can thrive there. read more

This is a must try brunch place!! We did walk-in on a Thurs morning with only a 15 minute wait. In beginning, we had trouble finding the place but then we realized it was inside of a business building. We decided to get the following: 1) Peach mimosa - didn't have much peach flavor however the size of the mimosa drink was decent 2) Duck hop hash - it was like a decomposed banh mi. Veggies were fresh and duck was flavorful, a little on the saltier side but still delicious 3) Cheesesteak Benedict - probably the favorite between the two entrees. It was amazing how the egg was still super hot even after awhile. Came here on a Thursday morning and was sat right away. Service was fast and attentive and I was in and out in 30 minutes since I was dining solo. I ordered the special, bbq chicken Benny. It was good but I think it was a little overpriced. The chai latte was tasty but they only had it iced and the cup was full of ice so I felt ripped off at $4.50 for the cup. I came in a Monday around 11:30 so lunch time. Parking was rough but weekdays downtown usually are. It was pretty busy but I only waited a few minutes for a table for 2. The person right before me a party of 7 was told it was a 35 min wait; it's not a very large place so not surprising. Bathrooms are in a main area outside of the restaurant but it was nice and clean. Morgan was our server, she was fantastic! I ordered Veggie omelette (added chicken), potatoes and multigrain toast. Toast came with butter and what seemed to be homemade strawberry jam. Just throwing another 5-star review onto the fire for this absolutely fantastic brunch spot right downtown Detroit. There is definitely something for everyone on the menu. I wanted 5 different things, and really wish that this place was in NYC so I could come back more often. The staff is all super nice, and even though they are busy, things come out quick and they are super attentive. Huge shout-out to the validated parking in the garage next door!! I was salty after having to figure out how to pay in that place and drive up 8 stories to find a spot, so when I could simply scan a QR code on the menu to validate the parking for free I was already on a better mood right when I sat down. consistent and tasty. (: I tend to study menus a lot at bfast places as there will always be better choices than others. The jam is yummy. Eggs Benedict is always a good option here as are omelettes. I also got this potato dish some time ago stuffed with eggs and it was SOOOOO good ; it changed my standards for egg scrambles. That one puff pastry dish is also good as a friend of mine got it one time before. Lattes here are better than other breakfast restaurants around the area for sure (not coffee shops - restaurants) and better than their coffee. I biggest con is probably the regular coffee. I've sat at the bar; it can be tight for wait-staff dropping food but I enjoy watching people cooking. I've also sat in the center at the tiny tables which I've never liked, but that's anywhere. I feel too close to people. Watch the hours and go promptly when they open (even before) ; it's not forgiving if you aren't an early bird. It will always be busy if you're not ahead of the curve! Always an amazing vibe, service and atmosphere in this restaurant. My family often comes here to get together when we do family breakfasts, or have people in from out of town.
