Long gone are the days of a wonderful dimes. The small cafe across the street would bring me back but the expansion doesn't seem to have been the best idea. Unfriendly staff, constantly texting at the bar, not exactly the best service. No greetings as such; hello, thank you etc. In an industry and city with a lot of restaurants service really does matter, memories of chipper, friendly enthusiastic servers in the smaller cafe before it was to go are but a distant memory. Food- ciao bowl. Mediocre and that's being kind it didn't really seem to know what it wanted to be. Sounded delicious but with half of it hot and the other half cold my mouth and mind weren't exactly pining for more. Sure acai bowls and chia are all wonderful but something that can be recreated at home. Ambiance- I felt like leaving immediately as I sat with too loud music, unfriendly staff & sitting on top of eachother patrons. It is not a dining experience I ever want to experience again. I had a juice of the day for 5$ and a breakfast sandwich with egg and jalapeños for 8$. Both tasted really good. BUT. The service might be the worst I've EVER experienced. Two couples and one single guy walked in a good 5-10 minutes after me and got their food first. After my complaints the waitresses started GRINNING at each other, as if they enjoyed my anger. Yes the food is tasty and yes it's healthy, but the space is far too small for the amount of people that come here. If you are coming with friends makes sure the entire group is here because they won't sit you otherwise. My sister and I came to Dimes for breakfast on a Saturday with my Dad who was visiting from Chicago. He's super Midwest meat & potatoes and he still loved it. It didn't hurt that we were sitting across from an adorable baby that was waving at us and smiling the whole time. That being said, everything is healthy, beautiful and delicious. I recommend the breakfast tacos and acai bowl. So good. Go early to avoid a wait because the place is pretty tiny. I get that maybe some people think the vibe is annoyingly sceney, but it's not Dimes, it's the current influx of instagirls that will find another place to fangirl soon. read more

I'm on a pretty strict diet plan, but I was going out to dinner with a friend- so she looked up places and found this one and the menu looked nice and healthy, so we went. I'm glad we did! We ordered the stuffed mushrooms to share, and while they weren't bad- they just weren't for me. They literally tasted like well seasoned beef meatballs. The thing is, I really don't like the flavor of beef so it really threw me off- but I can see a LOT of people loving this. I wasn't into it, but that's a preference. I still give the appetizer a high rating. I ordered the cod fish plate, it came with risotto and avocado yogurt, jalapeños and plantains. When I first saw the plate, I was disappointed. It was one of the more expensive plates ($21) and it was TINY. I have an enormous appetite, so I was upset. Biting into the food, though, the disappointment went away. The cod was soft and cooked well, and the risotto underneath was a lot! I ate it alone, I ate it with the cod, I dipped the plantains in it, etc. It was so good! It was spicy, yet acidic from the limes. Very, VERY flavorful and delicious. And surprisingly quite filling! Looks cam be deceiving. This meal was worth it! We were looking for nearby places for healthy dessert on our phones, when they (very friendly and attentive!) waiter offered us a dessert menu. YES, PLEASE! We both ordered the dark chocolate cream dessert. $8. Wowowowowowoowow. It was a rich, creamy, delicious dark chocolate mousse! It had what looked like whipped cream but tasted like absolutely nothing on top, but combined with the mousse, the texture was lovely. Again, it was small, but this is a healthy place- and I need to start getting used to realistic portions like these. I will definitely be coming back here to try other things. There's also a bar which is exciting and will be on my to do list for when I can drink again. Right now, alcohol is ruled out of my diet, but it's still a plus. The place was cute, the music was fun, and the bathroom smelled AMAZING! Looking at the other reviews about the service here, I feel the need to give a shout out to my waiter! I don't know his name, but he had a big bright smile and a beanie on. I don't know if he's a server, a bus boy, or whatever, but he was fantastic! He's the one who brought out our food and our dessert. He checked up on us, gave us water, he was so sweet. Perfect customer service. Our bill said a woman's name who I assume is the woman I saw once for 10 seconds when I placed my order. She was nice enough but I really hope the tips my friend and I left went to the guy. He deserves them. Best service I've had in a while, for sure. Minus one star for the small portions and the price. $21 for a small plate isn't really in my budget, especially when I was hungry again an hour later. :/ I highly recommend this place. read more

Much like their pancakes, this place falls flat. I came here for brunch with some friends and was so disappointed. I got the breakfast sandwich, my friends got the tacos, and we shared the matcha pancakes. It was all just ok and I honestly feel I could have made this brunch at home, and better. The eggs and tacos were tasteless and unseasoned. The pancakes had flavor but were dense and underwhelming. This is one of those places that's trendy just because they put avocados on everything. Super bummed by our experience. If you have a kid or are not a super cool hipster, it may be best to skip this establishment. I was super excited to take my husband and 1 year old to eat at this beautiful restaurant on my husbands 30th birthday celebration trip to New York. We love healthy, fresh food and the eclectic vibes on the website. We even told all of our friends about it. We were not greeted at the door but didn't think anything of it. We sat down and discussed how excited we were to finally be at Dimes! I am 26 and would like to think we are fairly "cool parents." Our 1 year old has a perminant smile on her face and my husband is a super hunky guy. We noticed a lot of the guests staring at us and weirded out by us being there. It felt a little strange but we didn't think much of it because we are pretty easy going people. There was no sign telling us what to do so after about 10 minutes of waiting we saw a table open up and sat down. We sat for a few minutes, the waiter came over, bussed the table and left. A few minutes later someone like a manager came over and was extremely intense about the fact that we sat down without being seated and talked about the wait and the people before us...etc. She was super sharp and seemed kind of disgusted/ annoyed with us. We were actually headed to a place next to Dimes but saw the inside of this place and decided to come here instead and we are glad we did! Two of the three of us wanted breakfast and one wanted lunch. The menu was perfect, simple to read and understand and the food was delicious. We got the breakfast sandwich and tacos and then the BLT with a side of delicious Brussels sprouts. Everything was very delicious and the perfect portion size. Very chill environment and seats available right when we came in. I would definitely recommend this place to folks looking for a quick lunch or brunch in the area. read more

Had a meeting at Dimes while in the city for work. The place is really unique and so are the people that frequent (at least from what I could tell!). The service was great -- I never felt like I was waiting on anything. I just had an açaí bowl, but it was excellent! The noise level was pretty high, but it's a compact place so that's understandable. We came for dinner and started at the tiny bar where I jumped in with a wheatgrass margarita -- surprisingly refreshing. It brought back memories of mowing the lawn in the hot summer -- but, in a good way. The food: The roasted cod, meyer lemon, faro/coconut curry with fennel was fantastic -- Tender and tasty. Been here a couple of times and luckily never had to wait for seating. Place gives me a complete hipster/Cali vibe where 1/3 patrons look like models or aspiring artists. Menu items are all on the fresh, light, and healthy side. Pies N Thighs is a few doors down if you're still hungry post-Dimes. I've always liked my meals here but it's hard to mess up eggs, toast, and coffee. I'll probably try their chia/acai bowls next time. We had breakfast there twice and loved the place. You won't see people working on their laptop there, but having actual conversations. Their coffee is really special and so so good! The first time I had an carob Acai bowl, wich was very good but way too cold for me. The sandwich I had the second time was perfect. If you're looking for organic food, this is a great place. Only thing I would criticize is that they put the rest of my food that I wanted to take home in a plastic container, rather than an environment friendly box. read more

Good, but not mind blowing. I enjoyed the decor and the freshness of the food. Nothing was over or under seasoned or salted. I felt like I had a good healthful meal, but it was all fairly forgettable as well. The wheatgrass margarita had too much lime and not enough grass flavor, I was expecting something interesting, but instead it just tasted like boozy lime juice. I would definitely go back if I'm in the area and want a nice light meal, but I'm not going out of my way to get back. Service was fine, nothing particularly friendly. Just pretty people, serving food with a slight disassociation and aloofness from the whole process. Felt very Williamsburg, in a borderline bad way. It's great that they moved to a bigger place from across the street, but what's annoying about the new spot is that it gets REALLY loud during busy hours you can barely hear people you're with. I headed to Dimes this Saturday for a solo brunch date. The place was minimally decorated...very hipster and in the up-and-coming part of Chinatown. Perfect people watching when your alone; the waitress was sucking on a ring pop, vintage and designer digs were everywhere and a customer even came in wearing a spiked collar necklace. At the suggestion of the waitress I ordered the orange and date muesli and a coffee with almond milk. Dimes is well known for their healthy options and specifically their bowls. As opposed to the other reviews, we had a terrible dessert stint. To begin with, our server told us the portions are terribly small so we would need one each which was completely false. The desserts were quite big and terribly sweet. We could not even get through a quarter of our desserts and that was a good 20$ down the drain. There was some raspberry cream dessert which was so sugary it literally went to my head. The chocolate cake with cardamom and banana is definitely not a flavor which appealed to us and also was too sweet. Did not enjoy it one bit and had to waste so much of it. read more
