BLUF: Delicious food, imaginative presentation. We are delighted that Brooklyn Heights hosts this gem of a restaurant. Food: Very Good (4.5 of 5). Dishes we had: - Wild Mushroom Bao: $11, not on the printed menu, but available upon request and via online ordering. These buns beautifully replicate shiitake mushrooms in appearance, and contain finely diced shiitake, tree ears, and carrots, among other ingredients. The dish comes with a dipping sauce that complements the umami flavors in the baos. - Fried Tiny Buns with Pork / Fried Tiny Buns with Beef: $8.50 for four. These are similar to "Pan Fried Pork Buns", except they exchange bread for a thick dumpling wrapper. The dumpling skin keeps the soup inside better than bao bread, which tends to absorb the soup. Ours had a perfect bottom sear. - Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings: $11. These xiǎolóngbāo were filled with an above average amount of soup -- the dumplings sagged when lifted. - Truffle & Pork Soup Dumplings: $15. Impressive. These dumplings are quite flavorful, due to good amounts of truffle shavings on the dumpling crown and inside the dumpling on the pork. We think the soup dumplings here are better than those at Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Downtown Flushing, Queens. - Chicken & Cabbage Dumplings: $10. Clean, plain flavors. - Spicy Cumin Lamb Fried Noodles: $14.75. Din offers a choice between broad (what we chose) or thick noodles. There is a hint of heat balanced by salty, sweet, and sour flavors. The lamb was thinly sliced, and a bit tough and chewy. - Iced Coffee: $4.75. I think Din uses an instant coffee mix. - Ham Sui Gok (咸水角; Fried Glutinous Rice Dumplings): $7 for two. Din gets this deep-fried dumpling wrapper right -- slightly elastic and chewy; but there could be more filling inside. The Fried Tiny Buns are a better value. Logistics & Other: - Keep the bamboo steamer lids when steamed dishes are brought to your table. Keeping your food covered helps retain heat and moisture. Otherwise, dumplings may cool more quickly, stick to the basket lining, and become more susceptible to breakage. - There are two well-maintained unisex bathrooms with ADA grab bars. - There is a booth in the middle of the restaurant that showcases workers making soup dumplings. - QR codes are available at each table for contactless ordering and payment. - Suggested tips are based on post-tax subtotals, and start at 18%. read more

Raring is 2.75 The + is a cozy Asian food with noodles. Nice ambience. Unisex washrooms are bright & clean. The not + is no wonton noodles & it took forever to get the 1st bowl of noodle, then the second one came after the 1st one was half consumed. The Tonkatsu Soup Noodle is so so, much better at a Japanese restaurant. The Spicy Pork Chop Noodle Soup was not spicy enough so had to ask for extra spicy sauce. Went here with my girlfriend to try soup dumplings, we got 20$ worth of food and had basically no interaction with staff (ordered using the QR code). Did not like the food, only stayed for max 10 mins. We didn't leave a tip. When we tried to leave the owner blocked the door and told us to leave a tip because the workers are receiving minimum wage. Aren't you the owner ?? Pay your workers better ?? Also blocking the door to hound us over a tip on a 20$ tab is wild but ok. Don't recommend ! read more

Found this restaurant around the corner from our hotel, great find. Small, very modern restaurant where they make the dumplings in a glass enclosed area. I tried the Pork, shrimp, & mushroom dumplings, 7 of them excellent. My opted for a lunch special, noodles with scallion peanut butter sauce and salt & crispy chicken, both were great. Really enjoyed the pork soup dumplings! They were the best I've ever had (and I eat them whenever I can)! I'd go next time and get three orders! We had bbq pork bao and the mushroom bao which were good, but the pork soup dumplings stole the show. I sent my mom-in-law and even she came back with rave reviews. Had an absolutely amazing time at Din's. I wish I had the time to snap some photos but quite frankly the family (apparently) brought their appetites and I simply couldn't get to anything quick enough before it was gone! First, thanks for accommodating the bunch (seven people) but that just meant we got to try sooo many things off the menu! Let me tell you - pork soup dumplings were Aaamazing according to my niece (yes, they didn't leave me any), the shrimp steamed dumplings and the mixed steamed dumplings were absolutely fantastic , sticky rice, the chicken feet, and the soups definitely won a few prizes around the table (my dad took possession of those chicken feet and let me tell ya, no one got seconds ). Of course I must mention the mushroom bao buns - they are NOT what you expect and are a perfect little surprise that you definitely have to order , believe me, you won't regret it (unless you hate mushrooms). We had lunch at Din Soup Dumplings on our last day in NYC a few weeks ago, and it was a great meal. We shared the crab meat and pork soup dumplings, the chicken and cabbage dumplings, the beef dumplings, and the house veg buns. The house veg buns weren't my favorite, but the other three were really flavorful - with juicy filling - and happen to be gorgeous on top of being delicious. The food came out fast, hot, and delicious. We were really happy to find such good dumplings in this part of Brooklyn! A great lunch. Would happily return. read more

This was my first time trying soup dumplings and I'm glad I did! They were amazing! We also ordered pan fried beef dumplings and the din house special (beef, chicken, and shrimp) with kudai noodles. Each dish was fresh, hot, and tasty. Because I'm a saucy typa girl. I just wished they put more sauce and shrimp in the din house special. The total for everything was about $55 and that also included a Thai tea and another drink. I thought the prices were very reasonable and the portions are big enough to share. The service was fast and our server helped us with our choices. It's nice & cozy inside and I thought it was cool that we could see the dumplings being made. That was very unique. Had a fantastic dinner here for 8 people which included three kids. The staff was kind, quick and accommodating. We were able to have a relaxed table in the back of the restaurant by pushing two tables together. The food was simply fantastic! We had pork soup dumplings, pork truffle soup dumplings, chicken dumplings, veggie dumplings, spicy cumin lamb noodles, seafood shumai, and another chicken noodle dish. It has been a while since I had dim sum and I was already on Montague for other reasons. I noticed that "soft opening" sign for this place (I believed it replaced a sushi place that had been here for years when I was growing up and visiting the area since I had family who worked nearby.) The place is not the best in terms of accessibility because you need to take the stairs to enter (unless there is some other secret entrance) However, that is a feature of the architecture of the businesses of Brooklyn Heights so it was more understandable. They gave a laminated paper menu when I sat down. There was a range of seating from a two person table to a larger group (6-8). There wasn't the large round table you would see in other dim sum places. But I don't think it would fit with this restaurant's relatively small size. Since it was a Monday at around 4-5 pm, the place was more on the empty side. At the front, there was a television showcasing the menu items so if you needed inspiration, you could see what an item looks like before ordering. The bathrooms were also nicely kept. I had the scallion pancakes, the steamed shumai (pork) and the pork soup dumplings. The scallion pancakes were freshly made and definitely balanced in oil and crisp. It had a slight sweet taste that while I wasn't expecting it, I was totally fine with. The soup dumplings came out and I would say 4 or 5 out of the 6 I got had a good amount of broth in it. But the meat portions inside were great. It came with a dipping sauce that definitely had soy sauce with ginger pieces. I wasn't too sure if vinegar was in it as well. Plus, where I was sitting, I saw the person making the dumplings by hand. I chose the "steamed shumai" not realizing it was pork (I should have noticed since there was a separate item called "seafood shumai"). Overall it tasted great. I think this could be a solid place to visit once it gets out of their soft opening stage. While it might not be the best in Brooklyn, I think it could be something new for the nearby vicinity. It is definitely not a fast casual place as they are making the food by hand with less people than your typical din tai fung. Walking upstairs I didn't know what to expect, when I entered I was pleasantly surprised by a beautifully decorated restaurant. Seating is comfortable and the lighting is pleasant. It's also very quiet, making it easy to talk. The menu offers dim sum alongside dumplings, noodles and entrees. I feel like we ordered incorrectly. We should have tried the noodle dishes and the fried dumplings. Both looked amazing! We wisely had an order of their pork soup dumplings, a signature dish, and it was definitely the star of our meal. The dough was expertly pleated and delicately filled. The scallion pancakes were wafer thin and had very few scallions. It was unlike scallion pancakes at other restaurants and a disappointment. We also got a bean curd wrap which - surprise! - had shrimp in it and something else I couldn't identify, perhaps crab?? There was no way to know since the menu provided no description and typically they are filled with pork. The pork and scallion wontons would have been amazing, but they were drowning in peanut sauce making them overly squishy and heavy tasting. Knowing this, next time I will ask for the sauce on the side. Don't get me wrong, although there were some misses here, I think the food is beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared. This review is for takeout, but I noticed that their indoor dining is lovely- not huge, but someplace you could take your parents who are visiting for the weekend. If you're a hardcore soup dumpling purist, you might not be thrilled with the soup dumplings here (their dumpling broth is on the sweeter side, for sure), but if you're a soup dumpling lover or have a soup dumping craving, this is the place! I haven't found any other Chinese restaurants in the area, so I'm glad Din fills the gap. Highly recommend the beef scallion pancake wrap, which is a classic. Also really recommend the bean curd skin roll, which has pork and shrimp and is a classic dim sum dish. The tingly beef noodle soup tastes legit (the beef sliced even have tendon pieces, per the traditional way of serving the dish) and and it's fun that you can pick what kind of noodles you want in the soup noodles or any of their other panfried noodle dishes. Beware the cold lotus root dish is VERY spicy; despite loving spicy food, this wasn't a spicy profile that I enjoyed very much. It tasted a bit too sweet/spicy for my liking. But the cucumber salad is exactly what I was looking for- garlicky, slightly spicy, and vinegary. The seaweed salad is the green type that you find in Japanese restaurants- not the black soy sauce garlic kind you typically find in Chinese restaurants. My Cantonese mother in law enjoyed the flavor of the shrimp fried noodle dish but was not super impressed with the broad rice noodles in the dish, saying that they didn't have the right "bounce" in their texture and that the noodles were a bit too thick that what you traditionally find. All in, Din is a great local joint, but it won't make the list for favorite Chinese restaurants in the city. While I wouldn't make a trip to this neighborhood just to eat at Din, as a resident of the neighborhood, I'm glad Din stepped up to fill the gap and will definitely satisfy the occasional cravings for dumplings and noodles! read more

Found this on Yelp while looking for a local lunch place. I agree with all the good reviews. Although most people were picking up for take out, there were a few of us there for lunch. The place has a light, airy feel and there's even a windowed work space where you can see the chefs do their magic of folding little pockets of yumminess. We were most impressed by the special--mushroom buns. They literally look like mushrooms, presented on a leaf, but they are delicious, soft steamed buns with mushroom filling.
