Came here for dinner with some friends. We shared scallion pancake wraps with beef, soup dumplings, some other dim sum style dumplings, sautéed broccoli, and a noodle stir fry with shrimp. Everything was good. My favorite items were the soup dumplings and the scallion pancake wraps. Service was ultra quick. Our order started rolling out within a couple minutes of being placed. It has been a while since I had dim sum and I was already on Montague for other reasons. I noticed that "soft opening" sign for this place (I believed it replaced a sushi place that had been here for years when I was growing up and visiting the area since I had family who worked nearby.) The place is not the best in terms of accessibility because you need to take the stairs to enter (unless there is some other secret entrance) However, that is a feature of the architecture of the businesses of Brooklyn Heights so it was more understandable. They gave a laminated paper menu when I sat down. There was a range of seating from a two person table to a larger group (6-8). There wasn't the large round table you would see in other dim sum places. But I don't think it would fit with this restaurant's relatively small size. Since it was a Monday at around 4-5 pm, the place was more on the empty side. At the front, there was a television showcasing the menu items so if you needed inspiration, you could see what an item looks like before ordering. The bathrooms were also nicely kept. I had the scallion pancakes, the steamed shumai (pork) and the pork soup dumplings. The scallion pancakes were freshly made and definitely balanced in oil and crisp. It had a slight sweet taste that while I wasn't expecting it, I was totally fine with. The soup dumplings came out and I would say 4 or 5 out of the 6 I got had a good amount of broth in it. But the meat portions inside were great. It came with a dipping sauce that definitely had soy sauce with ginger pieces. I wasn't too sure if vinegar was in it as well. Plus, where I was sitting, I saw the person making the dumplings by hand. I chose the "steamed shumai" not realizing it was pork (I should have noticed since there was a separate item called "seafood shumai"). Overall it tasted great. I think this could be a solid place to visit once it gets out of their soft opening stage. While it might not be the best in Brooklyn, I think it could be something new for the nearby vicinity. It is definitely not a fast casual place as they are making the food by hand with less people than your typical din tai fung. But if you are spending time with a friend or more, it could be a place to hang read more

This was my first time trying soup dumplings and I'm glad I did! They were amazing! We also ordered pan fried beef dumplings and the din house special (beef, chicken, and shrimp) with kudai noodles. Each dish was fresh, hot, and tasty. Because I'm a saucy typa girl. I just wished they put more sauce and shrimp in the din house special. The total for everything was about $55 and that also included a Thai tea and another drink. I thought the prices were very reasonable and the portions are big enough to share. The service was fast and our server helped us with our choices. It's nice & cozy inside and I thought it was cool that we could see the dumplings being made. That was very unique. Went here with my girlfriend to try soup dumplings, we got 20$ worth of food and had basically no interaction with staff (ordered using the QR code). Did not like the food, only stayed for max 10 mins. We didn't leave a tip. When we tried to leave the owner blocked the door and told us to leave a tip because the workers are receiving minimum wage. Aren't you the owner ?? Pay your workers better ?? Also blocking the door to hound us over a tip on a 20$ tab is wild but ok. Don't recommend ! read more

Had an absolutely amazing time at Din's. I wish I had the time to snap some photos but quite frankly the family (apparently) brought their appetites and I simply couldn't get to anything quick enough before it was gone! First, thanks for accommodating the bunch (seven people) but that just meant we got to try sooo many things off the menu! Let me tell you - pork soup dumplings were Aaamazing according to my niece (yes, they didn't leave me any), the shrimp steamed dumplings and the mixed steamed dumplings were absolutely fantastic , sticky rice, the chicken feet, and the soups definitely won a few prizes around the table (my dad took possession of those chicken feet and let me tell ya, no one got seconds ). Had a fantastic dinner here for 8 people which included three kids. The staff was kind, quick and accommodating. We were able to have a relaxed table in the back of the restaurant by pushing two tables together. The food was simply fantastic! We had pork soup dumplings, pork truffle soup dumplings, chicken dumplings, veggie dumplings, spicy cumin lamb noodles, seafood shumai, and another chicken noodle dish. The prices were very reasonable, as this all came to about $100. Highly recommend Din to anyone. read more

Pretty standard xLB place. Came here after a showing to a decent cumin lamb noodle, pan fried dumplings, spicy wontons and crispy chicken. Definitely try the salt/pepper chicken. Overall, it was a bit pricey ($60 total) for everything for a very small amount of food but flavors were on point and would definitely recommend it as a place to try. read more

This review is for takeout, but I noticed that their indoor dining is lovely- not huge, but someplace you could take your parents who are visiting for the weekend. If you're a hardcore soup dumpling purist, you might not be thrilled with the soup dumplings here (their dumpling broth is on the sweeter side, for sure), but if you're a soup dumpling lover or have a soup dumping craving, this is the place! I haven't found any other Chinese restaurants in the area, so I'm glad Din fills the gap. Highly recommend the beef scallion pancake wrap, which is a classic. Also really recommend the bean curd skin roll, which has pork and shrimp and is a classic dim sum dish. The tingly beef noodle soup tastes legit (the beef sliced even have tendon pieces, per the traditional way of serving the dish) and and it's fun that you can pick what kind of noodles you want in the soup noodles or any of their other panfried noodle dishes. Beware the cold lotus root dish is VERY spicy; despite loving spicy food, this wasn't a spicy profile that I enjoyed very much. It tasted a bit too sweet/spicy for my liking. But the cucumber salad is exactly what I was looking for- garlicky, slightly spicy, and vinegary. The seaweed salad is the green type that you find in Japanese restaurants- not the black soy sauce garlic kind you typically find in Chinese restaurants. My Cantonese mother in law enjoyed the flavor of the shrimp fried noodle dish but was not super impressed with the broad rice noodles in the dish, saying that they didn't have the right "bounce" in their texture and that the noodles were a bit too thick that what you traditionally find. All in, Din is a great local joint, but it won't make the list for favorite Chinese restaurants in the city. While I wouldn't make a trip to this neighborhood just to eat at Din, as a resident of the neighborhood, I'm glad Din stepped up to fill the gap and will definitely satisfy the occasional cravings for dumplings and noodles! read more

Stopped by on a whim and boy oh boy am I glad I did. Some of the best soup dumpling (crab and pork) that I've had in the city. When the skin is shining and translucent enough that you can see the pockets of gold liquid... And the shenjianbao (fried pork buns? Something like that) were also juicy morsels of delight. Found this on Yelp while looking for a local lunch place. I agree with all the good reviews. Although most people were picking up for take out, there were a few of us there for lunch. The place has a light, airy feel and there's even a windowed work space where you can see the chefs do their magic of folding little pockets of yumminess. We were most impressed by the special--mushroom buns. They literally look like mushrooms, presented on a leaf, but they are delicious, soft steamed buns with mushroom filling. It had a wonderful mix of textures with some interesting crunchy notes. Another unique option mentioned is their Crawfish Dumplings, which are very noticeable compared to the other dumplings due to their bright red color. I appreciated the spiciness but found these a tad fishy with a thicker wrapper than most, but others loved these and ordered more. For more standard dumplings, their Xiao Long Bao/XLB were pretty good, and they had a tasty version of Sticky Rice Pork Siu Mai. The Baked Pork Buns were good as they were not too sticky sweet. Finally, there was a decent version of Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil. Non-dumpling highlights included their excellent turnip cakes along with steamed spare ribs, chicken feet, and a particularly tasty version of steamed beef tripe with satay sauce. I would skip the Beef Short Ribs With Black Pepper, which had good flavor but was way too chewy. I know someone else ordered the spring rolls, but I don't remember trying them. They also apparently now have a Ningbo speciality called Shi Bing Tong, but I don't remember ordering it. Someone else got their simple and tasty porridge/congee, only available traditionally with pork and century eggs, and enjoyed it. I tried a bit, and it was indeed good. Desserts included a tasty Crispy Durian Pastry, alright Sesame Balls, a good Pineapple Bun/Bolo Bao, and Custard Buns, which everyone loved, but they had a cuttlefish ink shine, so I couldn't try them. This is a fantastic, reasonably priced AYCE Dim Sum. Would recommend it if they still offer this deal.
