    Vegan Udon

Really nice vegan udon. The broth was light but flavorful - with nice notes of yuzu, ginger, and some sweetness. The noodles were perfectly chewy. The inari and tempura bits made for nice toppings as well. This came to around $22 after tax and tip, which was pretty reasonable.

Really easy to miss this udon spot but I love the aesthetic and vibe. Very similar aesthetic to an udon shop you'd see in Tokyo. There are 13 seats inside and some outdoor seating. All of the ordering is done through the QR code and it's pretty fast to get all the food. I ordered the niku udon and a Mexican coke. The noodles really tasted homemade and super chewy. Loved my dish and can't wait to go back. Reasonable prices and really efficient service.

Amazing place! I came here on a Monday evening for dinner. They only take walk-ins. No reservations or take-out/delivery. Service is self service QR code where you can order on your phone. They'll bring you your order when it's ready. I highly recommend the cold udon! Very chewy and delicious. Very cool ambiance too. Looking forward to coming back.

Don Udon is exactly what I was looking for, a no frills udon place that serves great udon for not an insane price (looking at you Raku). Ordering is via QR code which is nice and efficient; the food comes out pretty quickly too. Vibes feel like a down to earth Japanese restaurant, not upscale at all which is great.

Bona fide Japanese food bar. Delicious, cheap, fast service. We were immediately sat at their craftily assembled expansive outdoor space, which was already busy for an early Monday dinner. We were able to access the menu and order with a QR code, where they have an extensive Udon selection. AMAZING that their udon broths are all fish broths unless otherwise labeled (just one is beef and one pork). Service was expeditious and friendly. Here was our order: - Udon wakame udon (seaweed udon, hot, subtle but delicious umami) and the Ume oroshi bukkake udon (has wasabi, very tasty flavor profile, cold) - Takowasa (wasabi octopus, favorite item -- delicious) - inari sushi (rice stuffed in deep-fried, softened tofu packets) - Mentai Gohan (cod roe on steamed rice -- very good) Looking forward to frequenting this neighborhood spot!

The food was so good, we went twice in a row! First, for dinner service, it gets pretty packed, so you do have to wait in line outside. Lunch service was much easier and faster. Once you're let in, you order by the QR code which speeds up the process bc you pay when you order. All you have to do once you order is eat and leave. Now, the food! So, good, we initially went in and tried the beef on noodles both dry and soup. The noodles are so bouncy and chewy and fresh. The seasoning/ umami is JUST right. Second time we tried 2 different dishes, unagi and the Mentai shirasu oroshi udon. Both were so great again, with perfect balance of umami and added toppings.

i got the dipping udon with a sesame sauce, which was an affordable & comforting meal. the udon texture was right on point, and while it didn't blow me away, i still enjoyed the sesame sauce. such a great, no-frills place for solo dining, especially if you snag a seat by the windows! the staff were super kind & service was quick, and you order your food via a qr code so it's great whether you're in a pinch or just want a nice meal!

Beef udon without soup with ikura rice bowl

After escaping Bed-Stuy, we wandered into Crown Heights for an early weekday dinner and spotted a new udon restaurant that immediately caught our eye. We didn't expect much, but ended up blown away. Food: 5/5 We initially planned on something simple--just an udon set--but couldn't help ourselves and added an eel appetizer and take wasabi to start. The udon? Hands down some of the best we've ever had. The noodles were perfectly chewy yet tender--like fresh pasta--and the flavor of the broth was rich without being overpowering. I got a set with beef udon without soup with a small side of rice with Ikura (salmon roe), and there was so much beef that I could barely finish. My husband ordered the hot version and a separate bowl, and we both left extremely satisfied. I've literally paid $20+ elsewhere for half the portion and flavor. The value here is crazy--especially in Brooklyn. For around $100 total with tip, we were absolutely stuffed. Standout dishes: * Beef udon (hot or cold--can't go wrong) * Eel appetizer * Curry rice bowl Service & Vibes: 5/5 This spot is tiny--maybe 15 seats max--and you're definitely elbow-to-elbow with other diners. So if you need personal space, this might not be your vibe. But it gave total Japan vibes in the best way. You order via QR code, there's a self-serve water station, and food came out lightning fast--like, full sets and apps in under 25 minutes. The hostess was kind and welcoming, despite the busyness. That said, the place fills fast, so go early if you want to avoid a wait. It's strictly first-come, first-served. Absolutely coming back. The noodles were next-level. The portions were generous. The price? Honestly unmatched for the quality. If you're cool with tight seating and want some of the best udon in Brooklyn--this place delivers. Just don't come with a big group or a need for elbow room.

Uzaku Kyuri is so damn good. This place is still as good as the first time I came here. But unfortunately the first review I made didn't upload the pictures. Niku Oroshi Bukkake Udon is so nice and savory. Goma Tsuke udon is fresh tasting and my wife likes it.

Great udon, very fresh and delicious. The flavors are very good, i would recommend this place!

I've been curious to try Don Udon on Park Place for quite some time, and I after a failed attempt due to them being packed, I was able to score a seat for an early Tuesday dinner. The space is cozy (read: small), with seating for 10 people or so. Most seats are along the counter surrounding the cooking station, and a couple of seats are facing the front window overlooking the street The decor is minimalist, relaxed, and welcoming, with little interesting details like Japanese masks, vases, a puppet, a Gundam head adding a personal touch. Service is very quick: you place your order/pay/tip via your phone, and the food arrives almost immediately. Prices are reasonable for the quality - most bowls run $17-20, which feels fair given the portion sizes and freshness. They also have kids udon, which is nice. Their house-made udon noodles have a perfect chewy, bouncy texture; a pleasure to eat. For appetizer, I had the Takowasa/raw octopus, which was excellent: tasty and chewy, with pickled veggies providing a nice crunch to balance the pleasantly chewy texture of the octopus. For udon I had the seafood-based Asari Udon: the broth was delicate but flavorful, and the clams complemented the udon texture perfectly. I loved this dish! Only downsides: it gets packed during peak hours, and they don't take reservations. Pro tip: go early (before 6pm) or late (after 8:30pm) to avoid the worst of the wait times.

We wanted a quick meal, but the food took forever. I mean, it's not fast food, but all the food items sold here are from frozen food that you can easily prepare at home, I don't know why it took them so long. The server was the only person serving and he wasn't friendly.

    Cold niku udon
    Lauren C.

Interior is designed similar to a traditional izakaya restaurant where the menu is relatively simple and straightforward. The udon has a nice bouncy texture and was quite refreshing. Tmmy friend and I agreed that the cold udon was better than the hot one in terms of flavor and noodle texture. The price is a bit on the higher end compared to its quantity, so perhaps a little larger potion of udon or niku would make it more worth it. Highly recommend this place if you're craving a simple yet delicious bowl of udon.

My husband had the kaishin don, I had the Ozakaya donburi set and our girls shared the shoyu tonkatsu ramen. The fish was so incredibly fresh here and the rice was seasoned perfectly. My donburi set also came with dashi broth that the waitress later brought over to pour on top of the leftover rice in my bowl to be enjoyed at the end of the meal. The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Although the pork could have been better/more tender, the broth was rich and seasoned so well and not too salty like other places. Last but not least, the service here was excellent and efficient. I would definitely come back here the next time I visit Brooklyn as there were many dishes on the menu I wanted to try!

It was really fluffy and smelled soooo good (reminiscent of the HK street cart waffles). But because it's so big, by the time we ate half of it, we were getting a little tired of the same taste. The salad was good but nothing to rave about. For drinks, we tried the Lebowski-San and Kettl Hojicha Kombucha. It was my first time trying a clarified cocktail and it was really unique. I thought there would be more ice cream honestly but I still loved it. The kombucha though was shockingly tasty. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle online once I got home (they're from Kettl, a local distillery in Brooklyn). The venue is really spacious and I actually planned a wedding here in the past. They host a lot of events and there was even a birthday party happening when I ate there. The only downside is the location. The only train that goes there is the G so it's a bit hard to get to. Food: Hot Honey Gem Salad (radish, buckwheat, fennel, yuzu vinaigrette) 9/10 Hottokeki / Japanese Soufflé Pancake (fluffy hotcake, honey maple butter, sesame) 9/10 Add Mini White Sesame Soft Serve (soy milk, sesame oil) 10/10 - I would recommend just getting this on its own instead of the Hottokeki if you're craving just a little dessert. Drinks: Lebowski-San (green tea shochu, pisco, sakura leaf, clarified matcha ice cream, cold brew coffee floater) 9/10 - This is a clarified cocktail which I didn't expect. I thought I was ordering a matcha ice cream-like drink so although the drink was good, all the ingredients are very subtle in flavor. Kettl x Unified Ferments 'Hojicha' Kombucha (jou yanagi hojicha) 10/10 - This is an absolute must-try!

Last I was here was for brunch and we sat in the outdoor patio area. We got a two things to share and a main each. Shared plates were the soufflé pancake and silken tofu. Both were a miss for me. The pancake had a baking soda aftertaste and also they brought it out right away instead of after we finished our mains so it sat around in the table for a while until we were ready to eat it. Silken tofu had a mediocre flavor palette. There was no variation in texture either, just one plate of mushy items. We didn't finish either one of those. For a main, I ordered a a Wagyu beef bowl. It was really good but on the smaller side. The service was attentive aside from a spillage when the order came. Then they started placing plates on top of the spill instead of wiping the table. Eventually they cleaned it but overall there was lack of training in this case. I am not dying to come back here but would consider if I'm in the area again. I really like the actual space but food/service can improve.

Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

Simple and satisfying on the food front, for the 2 of us, the cost was about $110. So not a cheap meal, but good food. The vibe though was a little different from what I was expecting. I went in thinking restaurant and what I got was more of a market atmosphere. While you are eating, people are walking around shopping and browsing, and there are products displayed and sold throughout the space. Not exactly my ideal setting for a sit down meal, but it works well enough for a casual weekend afternoon stop. One of the highlights beyond the food were the soup broths and dried flake samples they had available to try at Dashi Okume. We worked our way through most of them and they were genuinely delicious. My wife liked them enough to buy one to use as a miso soup base at home, which says a lot. They also carry items for cats, which was a fun little surprise. As for the place itself, Dashi Okume is located on Norman Avenue and operates as a collective, meaning it is not one single business but rather a shared space where multiple different vendors and businesses come together under one roof. That explains the market within a restaurant feeling. Overall Dashi Okume is a worthwhile stop, especially if you enjoy exploring and sampling along the way. Just go in knowing it is more of a hybrid experience than a traditional sit down meal.

Sat at the bar area where the chef's were busy preparing dishes for other customers. They initially didn't really greet or make any conversation with us, which I thought was a bit awkward as any folks sitting at a bar setting would be welcomed with a friendly, "hello" or "hi, welcome" - there was nothing. We didn't take it personally, we figured they were just busy. Though, the restaurant wasn't busy at the time. We ordered the Temaki sets, signature and the starter set. We also ordered the mushroom dip and the ocean trout sashimi for our appetizers. My wife LOVED the mushroom dip, I did too. The texture and creaminess with the crunch of the crispy rice chips was absolutely satisfying to eat. The sashimi was super fresh, combined with the orange ponzu - it was the perfect bite. Our Temaki set was served one at a time, together by the chef at the bar, who finally spoke to us and wished us a happy anniversary. Each piece was made with precision and just the right amount of wasabi and soy sauce. Nothing to complain about but wanting more. The portion was decent, my wife and I were both not holding our belly full but just full enough which was great. Overall, we'd recommend Nami Nori. High chance of us returning for sure. On top of that, the waiter also surprised us with a free sparkling soda to celebrate our anniversary, very nice touch.
