I have eaten here a few times, and overall its in the "just ok, but not going unless I have to" category for me. The food is ok, the service is usually pretty slow. I have had more than one item arrive cold. Read all the reviews, its totally hit or miss, its either good or it pretty much sucks, you willing to risk close to $75.00-$100.00 for dinner for 2 on hit or miss, Im not. I have yet to eat here and walk out thinking, "I cant wait to go back". For Bellingham its more on the pricey side, and fair enough if you deliver, they dont in my book. Most every time I feel like I spent too much to get way too little. Anymore I only go if invited as a guest, and usually try a subtle, "have you tried ____ instead?" The last time I went there, it was a slower time of the evening and there was no-one at the front desk, and wasn't for a LONG time, we stood there for at LEAST 10 min before anyone even acknowledged us, and it was at least another 5-7 min before anyone seated us. Considering the 3 empty tables we were staring at, that took WAY too long, a couple times (after we had been there a good while employees would breeze by saying someone will be right with you...) but no-one ever was, in an acceptable amount of time anyway... this is a fairly typical experience for the place... all those screw ups, add up! Food came out cold (both meals) and steak was over cooked. Really disappointing. Mashed potatoes was super salty. I love salty food and mashed potatoes, but these were not that great. Wont be back. There are plenty of other places to grab a steak in town. The server was very nice and attentive until i complained about the food- then she seemed scared and anxious. I decided not to send my food back bc i didnt want to get my server in trouble or cause a fuss. I have heard rumors that the owner is not friendly to complaints and i didnt want to find out if the rumors are true and spoil an otherwise pleasant evening. We went here on our anniversary not knowing what to expect. We had seen the restaurant a couple different times and thought it looked good, but the prices were a bit high. We decided that our anniversary was as good a time as any to splurge. We entered and were first struck with with the unique and interesting atmosphere. The layout has multiple levels with sectioned off dining areas. This gives it a fun and more intimate atmosphere and the old-timey decor adds to the experience. The tables in our section were a little close to each other, but we came on a Monday evening so there were not a lot of people there. The old pictures and little historical tidbits that went with them were intriguing. The service was good. The host was a little gruff, but far from rude. Our waitress was extremely friendly and was happy to give recommendations on food and drink and when she didn't have an answer she found someone who did and got their expertise. My wife got a Vanilla Lavender Martini which we could only describe as "magical." It was extremely good. I had some whiskey from their wide selection of higher-end, aged Scotches and American Whiskeys. The wine selection looked above par as did their beer selection although we did not look very closely at these. For an appetizer we got the garlic bread sticks with a Gorgonzola gravy. We chose that because it sounded very strange. It ended up being mighty tasty and a great way to start the meal. We highly recommend trying them. For entrees I got a rare prime rib with the risotto side choice. The was happily surprised to see that the meat was cooked absolutely perfectly (not too often that you order a rare and you actually get a rare), it was tender, and the light seasoning on the outside was done very well. The risotto was creamy, fresh, and delicious, but definitely took second place to the steak. My wife got the seared scallop risotto dish. We have never tasted scallops so perfectly cooked. All too often they are overcooked and have a rubbery texture, but these were tender, flaky and packed with flavor. Her risotto was quite distinct from mine and delicious as well, but a little too salty. Overall we were impressed with the quality of the food as well as the portion sizes. They were large enough that we had to take some food home. Our experience at Dirty Dan's was definitely a great one. It is easily the best higher end dining experience we have had in Bellingham since we have moved here with an excellent selection of food and drink and good service. People in Bellingham are truly spoiled if they think every decent restaurant without a drive-thru is expensive or "pricey". Once you've eaten and entertained in the big city, you definitely appreciate Bellingham much, much more. But I digress: the one word that comes to mind about Dirty Dan's is sumptuous. The decor, the atmosphere, the food, the staff - everything is welcoming, high class, and luxurious without seeming snobby. Well the time that it takes to get "anything " is amazingly slow unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations. Strip steak was tough , way to much grizzly fat ... couldn't enjoy it . Asparagus was the thinnest that you could find if at all ... potatoes a bit too thick,elastic. Mushrooms in sauce saved it . The burger was a complete opposite, very good . Left wishing I had ordered . Upstairs felt like we were in the hold on a sailing ship A bit dark to read menu . They tried to make up for slow start but it was all up hill . Last night my husband tried to take me out to a nice elegant dinner here for my birthday. We walked in and waited to be seated or even noticed for ten minutes.They were not busy by any means. Me and my husband proceeded to walk upstairs to try and get someone's attention to be seated. And was greated with the most unappreciated look, was replied with a shocked looked by the bartender as he replied ever so rudely said yeah someone will be with you in a minute downstairs. and guided us back downstairs. As we were turning around to walk back downstairs a waitress with a pixie haircut was right around the corner, so I asked is their somewhere we may sit? (Avoiding back surgery RN and I just wanted to sit after working all day) She told us were seating others right now with a very snickity tone, and had us walk back down the stairs. And made us continue to wait... There were so many empty tables. We were never acknowledged again nor asked if we would like to wait at the bar. We ended up walking out and going to Hearthfire. My grandmother is a Matriarch of the Bellingham area , she was the one who said to give it a try. I will be sure to relay how awful we were treated. I'm sorry but not even a 100$ plate is worth being treated like that. This place needs new staff. read more

I recently moved to Bellingham from New York City where I was working at a fine dining restaurant in Manhattan. I never expected to be wowed by any restaurant in Bellingham (total NYC snob... that's me). However, at a recent charity silent auction, my boss won a dinner (graciously donated by the owners of Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse). On a rainy Thursday evening, my coworkers and I shuffled into Dirty Dan's and were treated like royalty. Steve (the owner) was a natural host and the service was incredible. Everything was perfect. Perfect. The food (crab cakes, oysters, stuffed mushrooms, and caesar salad to start) was excellent. The main course was steak and lobster. The filet could not have been more delicious and beautifully prepared. The lobster was incredible. The presentation was flawless. The grand finale was a delicious cheesecake. All in all, I did not expect the quality that was brought to the table and to the overall experience. I cannot wait to return to Dirty Dan's, where I now feel like family. If you are looking for a classic and great dining experience with warm and friendly faces (and bomb food), this is the place to go in Bellingham. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. Made reservations at 9 pm for party of 8 women to celebrate my sisters wedding. Arrived at 9:10 due to the manicure and pedicures running late asked the host if our reservations were still acceptable because we were late. Host said our table was ready and seated us. Then our waitress came to take drink orders and advised her that the remaining party was on their way this was about 9:18. All of a sudden a manager (I am guessing) comes to our table with a raised voice and advises us of how late we are for a 9 pm reservation and where the remaining guests were. Beyond stunted by this treatment I ask my sisters to grab their purses and we left. I can't believe a restaurant would seat their customers then came and ask them to leave. We had 8 people who would be spending $40+ for this higher priced menu with a bill likely to be over $320+. Advise don't be late to your reservation with this restaurant. read more

Good chops and seafood. Their cream of mushroom soup is really good, don't think Campbell's. But the real beauty is their garlic bread. Its covered in some cheesy, creamy, garlicky sauce. Yay for this place! My husband and I were in town for our anniversary weekend and were looking for a decent place to have a nice dinner. We weren't dressed up or anything, so we figured a more casual steakhouse would be the way to go. With a name like "Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse" we kind of expected it to be ultra casual, but were pleasantly surprised when we got there with the ambiance of the place. It's quiet inside and intimate. Felt much more upscale than we expected. Our server was very nice and she seemed knowledgeable about the menu. The food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious! I had a steak with mashed potatoes, and my husband had ribs with seafood mac and cheese. Everything tasted great! Went in for my 23rd Birthday, atmosphere is very nice but be weary of the food! Drinks in the bar were good but not for $10/drink. We were seated in a timely manner and the waitress was nice. Ordered the catch of the day, which was salmon, a twice baked potato & cheese and broccoli. My salmon was raw in the middle and dry on the outside and lacked any flavor. The broccoli and cheddar was over cooked and the twice baked potato was not flavorful whatsoever. My fiancé had ordered the prime rib and he was very underwhelmed by the quality with how much we paid for our meal. Then when the check came to the table we were overcharged on our bill, with little apologies for their continuous mistakes.For a place that's supposed to be known for their seafood and prime rib, we spent $110, the experience was mediocre at best. Visited Dirty Dan Harris for the first time recently with my family for Christmas Eve dinner. Though it was super busy - especially for a holiday night - the service seemed a little on the slow side (though our waitress was super nice!). But we weren't in a rush and were enjoying each other's company, so that didn't matter much. Of all the meals we ordered, the tenderloin tips were by far the stand out. Super tender and OHH those horseradish mashed potatoes!! It seemed a little pricey to not be floored by the food, but worth a second shot. read more

Wanted a good steak and am still new to Washington. With a little searching and some good Yelp reviews my friend and I decided to give Dirty Dans a try. Walking in is like stepping back into the past since this steak house has been in the same location since mid 1974. We were greeted by the hostess that we later learned that she was the wife of the husband and wife owner team. Kathy sat us and made sure we were comfortable. After some initial chit chat and letting her know I was new here as a transplant from Ojai CA we felt right at home because Kathy has Southern California origins as well. Our waitress Ashley was on point and took great care of us with our orders and her timing serving between apps salads and main courses news spot on! The atmosphere was calm and quiet and we felt relaxed. Has the old seventies feel but not gaudy or cheesy. Once the steaks arrived I was impressed! I had the rib eye and my friend had the filet mignon. Which was butter soft and delicious. The smoked potato sides were also very good. We finished up with coffees and Kathy and Ashley were very good about providing us with great personable service. Maybe it was the time of night maybe it was how they do it but the whole experience made me feel comfortable and I'd go back a hundred times over. I cannot recommend this place enough. Five of us all had wonderful meals here on Sunday night. We ordered a mix of steaks and seafood and the only issue was that was one steak ordered as medium came out rare but was quickly corrected. My husband and I were lucky enough to dine on two of these rare commodities last week while celebrating our anniversary at Dirty Dans. We both ordered the ribeye steaks and they were nothing short of AMAZING. I ordered a side of the bleu cheese gravy and it was a wonderful accompaniment to my juicy ribeye! My husbands polenta and our shared side of lobster mac and cheese was great too. It is a Prime Rib, Steak and Seafood joint right out of the sixties. The air smells of drawn butter as you arrive, the menu reads like a "best thing I ever ate" recollection from childhood, and sharing is discouraged (stop me, I dare you!) The patrons were cute couples having BIG dates (dressed up!), old folks with gift cards, and tourists (me) who were celebrating. The wine list was rock solid. Anyone would find a favorite or two that will pair well with the impending gastronomic excess. Get a couple of salads, three or four side dishes, desserts, and after dinner drinks. We're residents of Bellingham! This is our "go to" for special occasions! Last night we took out son there for his 29th b'day! Asked for special seating since there were several of us and he preferred being in the back area. It was all set up for us perfectly! Our food was cooked to perfection! We have come to Fairhaven a few times and noticed this place and finally got to check it out this past saturday. I have been wanting a good prime rib and ordered it med rare, my wife had Filet med rare. When our order arrived the prime was barely warm and very rare. My wifes Filet was medium to med well and they barely gave us veggies.. The place was not busy and is very nice and spendy..
