Been here three times. The first time was good, second was awesome, and this third time was only okay. Seated very fast but the staff was always hovering around us. At the end of dinner the hostess came to clear our plates and commented "I should just pour this (leftover soup) over his head!" I still don't know if she was talking about my boyfriend, out for a fancy 21st birthday dinner, or the busboy. Starters were caesar salad and grilled pear salad (way too much dressing, overly and obnoxiously sweet candied walnuts). Not sure why reviews are lower, maybe an indication of consistency. Every time my husband and I go to dirty dans it's amazing!! Great service they space out the appetizers and the meal perfectly. We got engaged here and even returned on our anniversary a year later even though we moved 2 hours south to tacoma! The Owner- Steve always greets our table and even does quality checks on his new staff. Asking my opinion on the lobster Mac and cheese to ensure his new chef made it to proper quality standards! And he did! It was fabulous. This is a mom and pop steak house! You don't see these often especially one that blows corporate places out of the water. The owner helped us celebrate our engagement with a glass of champagne and our anniversary with a slice of cheese cake. This owner knows how to treat his loyal customers and how to make new ones! He understands business and high quality. I took my g/f to Dirty Dan's for dinner because I was told the had wonderful prime rib. We arrived late in the evening and found the restaurant packed and buzzing. After less than 5 minutes the owner Kathy sat us in a nice little section right under the upper seating area. We were introduced to our waiter Tim, who brought wine menus and bread. He recited the evening specials and left us to decide. After 5-10 minutes he returned at took our order. I ordered some Manhattan clam soup which was very pleasant and flavorful. Our main course arrived within 20-30 mins after ordering and we were blown away!! We both wanted photos it looked so delicious! My g/f chose the Lamb shanks and seasonal vegetable and I chose the Shrimp stuffed Halibut steak topped with Red pepper beurre blanc with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. While she didn't drink, I chose a Boundary Bay Scotch Ale to accompany my dinner. For dessert we took home a slice of huge berry pie covered in dutch crumbles. I've eaten here for thirty years, maybe two or three times a year. Last night was our first disappointing meal. The food was the same good grub as always, but the service was slow and inattentive. We waited a full half hour for drinks and appetizers and another forty five minutes after that for the main courses. It was not busy. The Owners Steve and Kathy Papadakis Have to be the rudest people to ever own a Business and should be run out of Fairhaven, WA. Did not feel welcome. This is not the first time we had visited this restaurant. This first time was about ten years ago, however, we recently moved to Fairhaven and decided to go back. It was very disappointed. I called to make a reservation two days prior, since it was going to be a Saturday night. I asked for a window seat - thought that is what we were getting. We walked in and the place was quite empty except for two couples seated at both window seats. The woman at the door seemed quite flustered, for some reason and indicated that everybody was taking longer than usual that night. It was the same person who took the reservation and I THOUGHT that she was one of the owners. She then dashed off and did not return. The other owner came out about ten minutes later and never apologized and indicated that they could seat us at another table in the back of the room. We decided to stay. It was quite a while before we were given water. In looking at the tables in the window, it was obvious that we had been lied to, as they were just receiving their salads. We were finally approached and we ordered. My entree arrived with COLD mashed potatoes. The waiter dashed away and eventually returned with another plate of warm potatoes. Nobody ever came to ask how our meals were and that includes the owners. We were never asked IF we wanted coffee, dessert etc.................just brought the bill. Both of our entrees were very mediocre at best. The ONLY reason I rated them one star at all is that we met a very nice couple at the table beside us. Their experience was the same as ours and they too had been before and indicated that it was quite different. Nobody ever came back to ask how the food was......... I would have rated two stars, only because of this couple but I sent an email to owner the next day and it was ignored - no response at all. We were joking around and laughing with the other couple and we were all glared at and then the lights started going off - at 9:00 PM. We were very disappointed regarding our experience with Dirty Dan Harris' for the following reasons: 1. The staff was reluctant to provide us with the "early seating" menu, but finally did so after two requests; 2. Three of the five "early seating" menu entrees were reported unavailable on the night of our visit because the staff told us that "Dirty Dan is a family-owned business and not a chain;" 3. The Manager stated that if were weren't satisfied with the remaining entree choices, then we should leave the restaurant - not exactly a pleasant greeting from the Manager; 4. The Manager finally agreed to offer an alternative pasta entree after much conversation and subsequently did so for other unhappy Customers as well; 5. The chicken entree portion served was 1/4 (drumstick and thigh) rather than the 1/2 portion printed on the menu; once again an argument from the staff, but ultimately another 1/4 chicken was reluctantly served; 6. The pasta dish was overwhelmed with sauce making it uneditable; 7. The soup arrived at room temperature. 8. The bill was over $100 and a waste of money except for the cheese cake. read more

We arrived to find an empty hostess stand, and by the time the hostess arrived, at least 10 others were crowding the lobby. Instead of kindly apologizing for the wait, she rudely announced to all that we couldn't be mad at her because she had just seated a large party. The meal was good. The prime rib was a little on the dry side; however, the balsamic reduction helped with the moisture shortcoming. The vegetables were perfectly done. The steak was nothing special (considering the price) and the only other food on the plate was some orzo that tasted like it came out of a box. It was the first time I've ordered an expensive steak that didn't come with some type of vegetable. I cook better steak at home. Decor: Needs an update. Felt dirty and the restaurant smelled stale. It seemed like the carpet hadn't been cleaned in a while. Don't think anything has been updated since 1985. I'd be willing to ignore this part if the food spoke for itself. This was my first visit to Dirty Dan's and I will probably never return. My experience here was underwhelming. The restaurant is fairly small, so unless you have reservations you will not get seated within an hour. The food is fine. I had the New York cut Oscar and it was cooked perfectly (medium rare), and the topping was delicious; however it doesn't come with salad or soup (that is extra) and the sides it does come with: rice, baked potato, vegetable or fries are sub par for the price. The prices are crazy high! The main reason for this low review however, was the service. My waiter was slow, inattentive and just plain rude. I sat for 15 minutes before he appeared and when I asked him about the specials he seemed annoyed answering in a very snotty tone. I ordered a glass of wine ($12) and it didn't come out until after my steak! I had to remind the waiter about it! So I sat for 30 minutes before I had anything to eat or drink! I was really surprised that the food was as bad as it was. I thought this place was supposed to be a great place to eat. While the owner WAS super cool and brought us a raw scallop to eat the salmon I ate was cold when they brought it out and the garlic mashed potatoes were almost soupy. I'm been coming here off and on for 30 years. On Thursday, a group of us went there for happy hour. They put us in a separate room upstairs, formerly the cigar lounge. It fit our party perfectly. The service was excellent. I ordred the beef sliders, medium and they were good. A few people raved about the prime rib dip. I would recommend happy hour here. We chose DDH for a special occasion dinner and reservations were recommended. I also recommend them for weekend visits. They were not overly busy when we arrived, but we did have a later reservation. We were seated immediately and brought water and menus. The waitress greeted us within 2 minutes and asked for drink orders. A member of the wait staff brought us fresh bread as a a starter. Our waitress returned quickly and throughout our meal was attentive without being too overbearing. Our orders were taken within 10 minutes and we enjoyed excellent salads. In our party, we tried the grilled caesar, the beet salad and a garden salad. All three were excellent. The candied pecans in the beet salad could be made a happy hour treat, they were soooooo good! The grilled caesar was also chosen as an entree by one of our guests, with a side of garlic bread, smothered in cheese, which was also excellent. Meals included the grilled salmon, which was excellent, and by far, the steaks were some of the best we've ever had. Cooked to medium perfection, highly seasoned, which was delicious and piping hot. We all enjoyed the huge baked potatoes and were stuffed at the end, too stuffed to try any of the delicious sounding desserts. One of our guests also tried the 'adult chocolate milk' and said it was yummy, but potent, so beware! Also felt it was a bit overpriced at $11, but given we don't purchase drinks that often, it may be the market price? Overall, the price for 4 meals with salads came to $160+ with tax. Yes, spendy...worth it? Yes. But I would choose this restaurant for a special occasion only, as that is rather prohibitive to the budget. read more

My family from Minnesota researched Fairhaven before they arrived and decided we must visit Dirty Dans. We had a great wait staff, my grandpa enjoyed his drink and mentioned it to our server. The hostess came by a few minutes later with the recipe for the drink, and a few minutes later to show him the bottle the liquor came in. Above and beyond service. I would give Dirty Dan's 5 stars for the meal I had, but lowered it because of some of my coworkers meals. I had the filet, perfectly cooked, great garlic mashed potatoes. Everyone loved the clams, crab cakes and the drunken mushroom side. However, everyone who ordered seafood said it all tasted like it had been frozen, especially the prawns. I tried one, and although it was perfectly cooked, it was completely tasteless. The prime rib was a favourite, and the steaks hit or miss. Everyone agreed that dessert was good and the service impeccable though. We had our own private area for the group, which was also great. I would love to be able to rate the food here. I hear it's good. I checked their website for the hours (open until 10:00; they match yelps). I came in at 8:25 and was met with a closed sign on the front door. Went in to double check. The owner (I was told she was the owner at least) said that they're open to 10:00 but only seat up to 8:30. I showed her my phone (8:28) at this time and she said they were closed. When they can't even get their hours straight I don't know how they can get a steak right either. read more

We just ate another awesome meal at Dirty Dan's. Of special note was the Flat Iron Steak and the Creme Bruele. My husband had the steak which had an excellent spice rub and was served with a corn hash (also zesty with spices), he was delighted with it. We asked the owner of our B&B to recommend a place for seafood and she mentioned that she had a great halibut here once. It's not a menu regular but the catch of the day was halibut and it was delicious, with a parmesan/crusted topping. The atmosphere/decor is quite pleasant with a low noise level and decent light jazz background music. The service was excellent. read more

I have been going to Dirty Dan's for many years, and recently discovered that they have an amazing Happy Hour menu--I believe from 4-6:30pm. The restaurant's regular menu is fantastic, but spendy, and if you want a decent meal on a budget, you'd be surprised at the difference in the Happy Hour prices. I am not sure if it is offered out the gate when you are dining during those hours, so be sure to ask for it. Kristal has served my wife and friends and I and is always a pleasure. This place has no doubt, good food and service. I give it 3 stars for that. The downside (s) is ordering a glass of wine? Be prepared to pay a lot of $ for half a glass, literally 4 sips. We had dinner their recently, only 3 of us and sat up by the window. Once we were done eating we felt very rushed by the staff to leave. Multiple people came to our table and kept asking us the same questions and it was very obvious that even though after spending $200+ on dinner, they wanted our table. This in itself was off putting and we wrote about it to them and never once heard back, not even a courtesy reply.
