In town visiting family and we decided to stop in to Dish Society before heading to the airport to head home. My cousin actually recommended this place and boy am I glad she did! It is touted as being farm to table, and the interior has a sort of modern farmhouse feel to it. This location is in a swanky area of Houston, and right around 11am we came when the restaurant was bustling with people dressed in their business casual and some looking to be in their Sunday best. When you walk in, you place your order at the counter, then take a number to your seat and a server will run your food to you when it's ready. This location does have ample seating indoors and outdoors and a full bar, and the menu online does mention happy hour drink specials in both the early AM and evening time. I couldn't decide on which one to get so I went with several vegetarian sides, Smoked Gouda Grits, two over medium eggs, the skillet potatoes and a biscuit and an iced honey lavender latte with almond milk. My cousin went with the shrimp and grits and we shared an order of the house beignets. My favorites were the grits and the beignets. The grits had plenty of that Smokey Gouda flavor, and it was as Goldilocks says "Just Right" temperature wise. The beignets super light and fluffy, generously dusted with powdered sugar and the sauce to dip it in was sweet but not overpowering, I would definitely order these both again on another visit. Eggs tend to be eggs no matter where we get them, and the potatoes were good, just tasted a bit too onion-y for my liking. Now the side of biscuit, and though it was a decent size, I don't feel warranted the $3 price tag just for one. I get this place is swanky, I just didn't expect that for a single biscuit. My honey lavender latte was also yummy, and I liked the espresso used to make it. If I wasn't about to board a plane I would have ordered another but would prefer not to give myself the jitters. The flavored syrups of course sweeten the drinks but if needed they offer stevia and sugar in the raw at each table. My cousin went with the shrimp and grits and it looked so tantalizing, she really liked it a lot and her iced coffee as well. Overall this was a very good spot to have brunch; so good my cousin said she planned to come back tomorrow with her hubby and try some more on offer...and I am slightly jealous I can't join her! We stopped in for Monday brunch after going to Sunday's Taylor Swift performance. The four of us all had a great brunch. The Brisket, eggs and grits were fantastic. The Chicken and biscuits with gravy were also good. The biscuits were a bit dry and crunchy. They must have been baked this morning and sat all morning. The gravy and chicken were 5 star delicious. The BLT was excellent. Very good coffee is also served. Definitely 5 stars and I'm very much a coffee snob. We are looking forward to them opening in Austin area. Very different! I like sweet potatoes and I like brisket, together sounds like something amazing. It was ok. It wasn't nasty by far but those 2 things with all of that cabbage threw it off for me. Not enough sauce but the sweet potato was cooked to perfection. Bread pudding was ok. It could have just been the options I've tried. Service was mid, no one was friendly but not unpleasant, just there. Very open and crowded environment during lunch hrs. 9x10 you'll have to valet park or park across the street. 3/7/2023: There's so much wrong here. The parking is absolutely wicked from 12:00 pm until about 1:30 pm. They have complimentary valet parking, but you need to tip (don't be a jerk) and who has cash these days?! The restaurant is a walk up order style, get your own drink, seat yourself and get your own refills, BUT, please tip us. So tired of the tip shaming or on a lesser offense, the expectation of a tip for such little work. They even give you silverware to carry to the table, like your hands aren't full enough already?! I had my drink I had to fill, my lemons, my sweetener, my number to put on the table, my silverware and don't forget the stuff I walked in with to start this journey. Someone really didn't think that part through. At least put the silverware on the table for us! I would classify this establishment as one of those hipster, "we make regular stuff with a spin and charge you a lot for because our Ingredients are farm to market" kinda places; seems to be the trend these days. My sandwich with chips and a drink was $18.30 BEFORE tip. Yes, I tipped. Though it makes me mad, I'm not completely void of what's socially accepted/expected. I had the BLT sandwich today. This one had an egg on it. It was good, but different. I do recommend the pretzel bun with the BLT. My friend had the chicken salad sandwich. She's not picky at all, but said it was the worst chicken salad she had ever eaten. She left half of it on her plate to be tossed. I do have an appreciate for the indoor decor, nice shaded patio and 'Sonic' ice. The only problem is the hoops I have to jump through to get to the nice decor, enjoyable patio and tiny cubed ice. Visited on a Saturday for brunch with some family. You order at the counter first then find a table; we lucked out and ordered right before a lunch rush. Space was relatively open when we arrived so finding a table wasn't terribly difficult. The food itself was delicious. The spicy chicken and biscuits hit the spot. Chicken was spicy but not overbearingly so and the gravy was just the right counterbalance to the heat. The Entry Level smoothie was really fresh, too. Dish society blew up like 4-5 Years ago (pre-pandemic) and I thought it might be good to pop in after a little bit of time apart. Everything that made it good is still there. Menu is mostly the same I think and they have the Boxwood picture spot that got the viral social media fomo posts going for them. Food is still tasty as well, it's mostly a brunch affair here and the walk up counter service makes it easy to bring a little one with you. It's very laid back and trendy vibe and the food matches. This is our local Dish Society and the one thing I love about this location is the colorful outdoor seating area. Sitting outside on Sunday morning during breakfast time is the biggest draw for us. I can only speak about the Nutella French Toast because it's my favorite thing on the menu. The 3 slices of toast aren't very large and are on the smallish side but when accompanied by a healthy serving of strawberries and blackberries, it'll fill you up for awhile and ends up to be a mouth watering combination when accompanied by a side of bacon. Dish Society was recommended as one of 10 best places to eat pancakes in San Antonio. The pancake looked beautiful on the plate. It was served with fresh strawberries sliced and arranged on top and a very light dusting of powdered sugar. Unfortunately the pancake was tough and heavy. It was served just above room temperature with room temperature syrup. The syrup tastes like artifically flavored syrup, not real maple syrup. Interestingly, when I requested butter, the waiter did bring warm syrup and a chilled wrapped butter square. It seems to me, if you're looking for a good pancake, you should try a different restaurant. I'll try Dish Society again, but next time I'll give something like their Brussels Sprout Sper Salad a try. read more

This was my first visit to a Dish Society location and of course I can't speak to the whole menu, but the Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich couldn't have been improved upon in my opinion! The sandwich had a thin, but large grilled chicken breast with goat cheese, pesto, spinach, and tomato on a very soft pretzel bun. I'd never had a pretzel bun before, but wow this one was a great start! I was also impressed by the very tasty house chips, which were thin, crispy, and salty. I went with a chicken salad with chips, and an order of beignets. They had a coffee station where I got my coffee and all the fixings that come with it. Our orders came out fairly quickly too. The sandwich was good. I liked the flavor and seasoning in the chicken. The bread was too thick and at times it felt like, as if I was eating bread by itself and no meat. The chips were your standard kettle cooked version. The beignets were good too. Came out hot and fresh from the stove. I didn't like the sauce on it. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered oat milk as a creamer for my coffee. It was delicious!! Dish Society has been a consistent go-to place for brunch for our family. They have consistent high quality food, a diverse kids menu, and friendly and helpful staff. There potion and pricing for kids meals is reasonable and they have a good variety of kids drinks. We recently went for dinner and they were understaffed and posted this on the door, so they were using counter service instead of table service (as they apparently normally do after 3:30 pm). We would have never known they were understaffed because they were attentive, efficient, and incredibly polite in checking in. We had the kids chicken tenders, steak tacos, Cobb salad and the bread pudding. All delicious. On Tuesdays, kids eat free (with purchase of an adult entree) and they also have a social hour where some of the fancy cocktails are $6. My favorite is the new Pacific Empress.
