Refried beans made for great fajita wrapping. I have long wanted to try Pappasito's Cantina. It's an iconic restaurant in Houston along w/ Pappadeaux next door (and all the Pappa's establishments of course). I would say all things considered, Pappasito's deserves solid 4 stars. The food was a solid 4 star experience. The service was excellent, which really steps up the experience. It's a fun place -- you can't go wrong with most menu items here. Started with the guacamole which was -- a bit underwhelming. Chips and salsa are really good -- chips are so flaky and thin. I opted for the lunch chicken fajitas at $17. There were no bell peppers in the fajitas, just onions, cheese, chicken. The flour tortillas were really good (all made in house). Charro beans, rice, salsa, everything is solid. I did try the beef fajitas my coworker ordered and would have to say they're a step up compared to the chicken fajitas. I would absolutely visit here again and look forward to the next visit to Houston. read more

I was actually pleasantly surprised with my most recent trip to Pappas Mexican joint. The vibes here have been consistent since I was a kid, and there's always a comfortable familiarity coming to any location. It's like a grandparent's house with some dated decor and a water feature that is there for some reason. I've said it before and I'll say it again and Tex-Mex worth its salt is graded on a couple of key criteria: Fajitas, Salsas, Queso, and Margaritas. The service was fine, nothing to write about there. So let's get to the grading! Salsas 1/5: NO GREEN SAUCE? gtfoh until you whip up something green, verde or otherwise. Boring af red sauce won't cut it. Queso 3/5: they put this one in for Par. It's yellow and gooey. Nothing new here and it's wasn't bad. Can't complain, you know what you're getting. Margarita 3/5: I got the platinum (premium) Grande margarita which comes out to $17 before tax and really enjoyed the flavors. Went down smooth and wasn't too sweet or sour, nicely balanced. I don't think it was strong enough. I didn't feel even slightly buzzing after downing it. For double the price of a standard marg I think I should be feel a little more fun than usual. Fajitas 4/5: the mix chicken and beef fajitas were good. I'm a beef lover and was really happy with the cook temp of medium on the beef and thought the marinade/seasoning was really yummy. Chicken got over cooked and is the only thing holding it back from a higher rating. Overall; some good, some bad. A. parking is difficult B. there's a wait for a table and/or C. they're going to get something wrong with your order, especially if you're a larger group. If you pack your patience and maybe come down at the beginning or end of a normal dining time, you'll at least get a fast table and calmer more reliable service. read more

I ordered the guacamole and chicken quesadilla. Well...it was your standard tex-mex. It needed flavor and spice which brings me to service. I asked three times for some hot sauce - it never came. Waited for a water refill for quite a while. However, please remember, it was very busy. The "meh" flavor plus the poor service and noise, it's not a restaurant I would return for. She had commented that the table next to us complained too. She had a manager come by and that was a lack of luster experience. She saw the volume of meat that we had left. She said, let me bring you some meat to take home. Before we could refuse because why would we want more of it... she had turned away. She brought about 5 pieces of raw meat out. I told her that's way too raw. She said, well let me have them cook it a little more. At this point... we are beyond frustrated with this meal and want to just leave. Update: against our own better judgment we gave them another shot this weekend. Same awful food. Everything is runny & has no taste, queso, green sauce, everything. My husband is at this moment on his way to return the meal for a refund. After 3 wks in a row we refuse to pay for another meal we can't eat. I don't know what has happened at the I-10/Memorial location but they have ruined what used to be one of the best restaurants into the worst. They've lost 25 yr customers. We're DONE. We've been picking up a to-go meal every weekend since covid, so 6 yrs now. They've always been fantastic. My husband got to know the take out servers, sometimes they'd treat us to a free appetizer or dessert. Once or twice they even took care of our meal because we were such good customers. Well, I don't know what's happened in the last year. Whether it's new management or what, but, there has been nothing but turnover in the wait staff & the past two weeks half of our meal is not edible. I hate to see such a good restaurant go downhill like this. We've loved Pappasitos for over 20 yrs but they're about to lose a long time customer. The salsa is made with fire roasted tomatoes and it had a slight kick to it. My entree two enchiladas was far from spectacular. The enchiladas were ok they were really thin. Pappasito's is always a solid choice for Tex Mex in terms of being a chain restaurant; the food is dependable and pretty consistent although inflation has really made everything too expensive. Their queso is spot on and their beef fajitas are tender and cooked nicely. Sure, it is a bit of a manufactured operation being part of a large chain, but it's always delivered a decent meal. Another person at the table tasted the same thing and didn't care for it as well. The 3rd person at dinner didn't mind. Given how many people seem to love Pappasito's salsa, I'll chalk it up to personal taste/opinion, but it's a shame as I love to put the house salsa (when it's good) on all my food at a restaurant like this. Good flavor although the meat did not have as much flavor as the same "fajita beef" from the next dish. Beef Fajita, Quail & Shrimp Brochette - 4/5: Very good. This dish is packed with flavor. The shrimps are wrapped in bacon which did slightly overpower the flavor of the shrimp. The fajita beef on this dish was very flavorful as was the quail. Dessert - Sopapillas - 4/5: Light, fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon, powdered sugar and honey. Not greasy at all, maybe a bit too sweet, but overall very good dessert to end a nice meal. First time coming to this location, and the food was amazing! I got the Chipotle chicken fajita taco with black beans and rice. The tacos were so fresh, and the chicken was seasoned well.
