Excellent experience from the moment we walked in.. I think the Host was the manager as well. Very welcoming upon arrival. The place was packed and the only table was next to the bathroom so we chose to sit at the bar which was a wonderful experience. District Kitchen & Bar was a pretty good experience overall. Two friends of mine have been trying to get into this place for a while now, so we checked it out while visiting Pittsfield, and were finally able to get a table. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I went in with an open mind and open heart. Let's Start with the good: First the atmosphere was pretty cool. Clean and hip with good lighting, and it had a foodie vibe ~ where everyone appeared to be enjoying the food and their conversation ~ which is always exciting. Sat down quickly, waitress was very polite (throughout the meal), looked over the drinks menu and a few things stood out to me. Most notably the "Figgin Delicious" and the "Nothing Compears 2 U", with bourbon, pear puree, pear liqueur, honey, ginger & sage syrup, lime, and cinnamon. All things I love, so I ordered that promptly. It was pretty fantastic with a beautifully balanced sweet flavor, the right amount of alcohol, and a clever early 90's Sinead O'Connor reference. I started with the Beet Salad with raspberries, fried goat cheese, and citrus vinaigrette. Saying it was yummy is an understatement. The goat cheese was a nice sized chunk, perfectly fried with a golden brown crust. The raspberries were a nice surprise after every few bites, contrasting the bitterness of the greens. The beets were perfectly cooked, cut into little bite sized medallions. And the citrus dressing brought it all together beautifully. When my burger came out, I was excited to try the Thai inspired flavors. The fattiness of the garlic peanut sauce had a nice flavor, but I think I didn't get enough pear in my slaw, because because it was missing the acidity it needed. Still, I ate every bite, but next time I would make a note to ask for a bit more. I'm a big believer that bad french fries can ruin a dish, and these were very good. However I seemed to get the bottom of the basket -- which is very disappointing. I think only two or three of my fries were longer than 1 inch, which meant I had to use a fork to eat them, and nobody should be subjected to that. For dessert I got to taste the White Chocolate & Orange Bread Pudding. I was very impressed by the flavor combination. The bread pudding was warm and gooey and the bright sweet flavor of the orange zest ice cream brought it all together. Now for the not-so-good: The french fries and lack of pear acidity on the burger were slightly disappointing. I think both of these could be corrected with slightly better quality control in the kitchen. We also never got offered any kind of bread before or during the meal. I saw other tables getting a warm and friendly looking baguette, that wasn't part of a cheese plate or anything, so that was also disappointing. But beyond those few things, everything else was pretty good. Overall, I really enjoyed District Kitchen & Bar and would definitely go back the next time I'm in town. Hopefully these little things will be sorted out by my next visit, so I can bump up my review to a 5-star, which they just fell short of. Of course I would mention my tiny fries if I'm ordering something with them again. I'd also like to head back to try the scallops at some point, because they looked amazing on the next table, and of course that "Figgin Delicious" drink is screaming for a taste. read more

Loved the atmosphere and the staff. They didn't rush you out. Their food was delicious!! For appetizers we had their MOORISH SPICED CHICKPEAS...They were very tasty and had a nice crunch to them. We ordered a half order of their MAC & CHEESE- pancetta, smoked gouda, roasted tomato, panko . It was flavorful and I loved the pieces of pancetta in it. Their burgers were amazing!!!!!! We had a reservation for 7:30 arrived at 7:00 and told there would be a wait, no worries we get it. While waiting for our reservation time my husband and I wanted a drink so he went up to an area of the bar much like a fellow patron was instructed to. However, after waiting more than 5 minutes the male bartender (who did not seem busy) snapped his fingers at my husband and told him to move... Now this was promptly right after serving another patron whom he took a drink order from right before. So to say our night started off shaky would be an understatement. If we could have left for another restaurant in the area we would have. More so if you don't want someone to stand in an area it is not that hard to use your words and ask someone to move to a different area, especially a paying customer. So we stayed and were seated at our reservation time. At this point we didn't get or want much because the vibe of our night out was off. My husband got the Mac and I just had the fatoosh salad. Both were good. Server and host both nice. Outside of that I don't think we'd be back to this location. All I can say is the food is good. Make a reservation and definitely don't plan on a pre-dinner drink unless there is a seat at the bar. read more

Delicious dinner at District this past weekend! Went in on Saturday night and it's a lovely restaurant w modern feel and good food. Our waitress was great and helped us pick from the menu. To start we had the Sicilian Meatball: beef & pork meatball stuffed w mozzarella and fontina served w marinara Calabrian coke oil, parmesan and baguette. Yummy yummy appetizer. For my entree I had the PEI mussels: crumbled sausage, kale, tomato ragu w grilled baguette. I also ordered truffle fries to dip into the sauce and mussels. If you order the mussels, do like i did order the truffle fries to dip into that sauce. *chefs kiss* My friend had Osso Buco: slow braised bones in shank w roasted Brussels sprouts $ garlic mashed potatoes. Voila! After a beautiful day hiking, we found the perfect spot to sit and have some delightful food. While reservations are suggested, two of us sat at the bar and were comfortably He did a monks other locals who clearly enjoy this restaurant as much as we did. There were lots that's good choices, including a cheeseboard that wasn't just cheddar and crackers, that offered some kind of cherry compote and additionally a garlic jam. Yums! We shared a creamy carrot soup and salmon over dill risotto. Although there was not a lot of dill in the risotto it was still quite tasty. We decided to go the way of doing multiple item shares rather than one big meal, which was great because they actually brought the fish out on two separate plates which was very nice. They have one drink choices, but nothing fancy. For example, I ordered a business which usually comes with a lemon twist and it was served plain, and we had an old-fashioned which usually has some kind of accoutrement but was also served plain. Since they have such nice dinner selections, I would really like to see them up their game on their drink presentation. People were trying to do takeout but this is not the type of restaurant where that is the most efficient way to go. Plan ahead if you want to order food for takeout. read more

We arrived at almost 10 when the kitchen was getting ready to close, but they checked and were able to seat us AND most importantly, still serve us food! We went here over a year ago, and I don't remember many details other than that it was a great experience with delicious food, good service and that I recommended the place to my mom when she was going to the Berkshires the next weekend! That says something. If you know anything about me, it's that I love SALMON and HAPPY HOUR!!! Well I only had one of those here, and the salmon was perfect!!! It was also served with grilled fennel, which it turns out I am a fan of! I never would've known if I didn't try it here. The calamari was also very good. First, this place has a great set up for COVID - enjoy the outdoor area and just let the staff take care of the rest. They are making it an impressive meal all things considered. Safe and tasty, just how I like it! I've been here a couple times now and I'm always thoroughly impressed with each dish. Hands down - the chicken liver mousse here is other worldly. It's what I like to refer to as farmer's hummus, and I want to slather it on everything. I cannot believe how good this is. Add it to the cheese board so you can really take it to another level. My best way to move through this menu is ordering a lot and splitting with friends. The mac and cheese, mussels, steak frites, burrata, salmon are all going to win you over. Misery. Miserable server (Caitlin). Annoyed with us from the get go. Couldn't be bothered to be kind or connected. We did not feel welcome...or even tolerated. The woman who seated us was very nice and energized. Kudos for that. This is a pretender restaurant, simply put. The manager was absurd. Pretentious menu and no skill in execution. The cheese board was expensive and sparse and showed no sense of unity or planning. The amount of cheese we were granted was hilarious. Beers (canned and on tap) cost as much as cocktails. So strange. Wife's flatbread was amateur and undercooked. My burger was wet. WET. First beer (on tap) was flat. Caitlin wasn't happy with me for that. Fries were small, burnt, greasy. Cleanup of plates was annoyingly slow. This place is a cliche. Doesn't stop people from lining up outside. Wanted to warn them, but my wife forbade it. : ) One saving grace: Shoot the Moon cocktail was lovely. We spent well, tipped well. We are model diners, I promise. Stop the madness, folks. We were disappointed in everything we ordered. The service was lovely but the food unfortunately wasn't.

Waiting time was really long. We waited at the bar to get seated from 5pm to almost 6, then waited for food and finished around 9pm. My cocktail at the bar was good. Cheese platter was small, tasted just okay. We three all ordered salmon, which was cooked perfectly. The salmon really lived the name and the rating. District is a solid place. I got there on Friday evening and it was boisterous. We were seated in a timely manner. Our waitress got me our drink promptly too. The place has a dark romantic industrial look. We both ordered the burgers. I got the Brie burger. The meat was cooked exactly the way I asked for. The toppings were fresh and clean too. Our substitutes salad had stale greens however. Alarming for the Berkshires where produce is so abundant. It really was the only flaw here. In summary we were taken care of. Interesting and delicious, unusual but not weird...nice trendy atmosphere and good service. I had a great meal here before a show at Barrington Stage, just a few blocks away (next time I would drive, though, as the writer recommended). My peach/bourbon cocktail was perfect: strong on both those critical ingredients and did not water down as it had one of those uber cubes. The chilled carrot ginger soup was lovely, with just enough spice for me but still refreshing. I had the lamb kabobs, which were like a ground meat cake on a skewer, served with a sweetish raisin and grain mix on a green salad. There was a side of dipping sauce with a light curry (?) flavor. My daughter had a salad and some truffle fries which were excellent. Maybe a perfect roll or bread with butter or oil would have her a nice complement, but we didn't ask, and didn't have time for dessert. Next time, I'll definitely leave time for dessert. read more

My best dining experience in Pittsfield thus far. I ordered the salmon with dairy free risotto (everything's made to order), the calamari, and a few cocktails. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It had a crisp outer crunch and a warm melty inside. I was very impressed. And the side of grilled fennel, what a touch! It was my first time having grilled fennel and I loved it. A great pair also. The risotto say around this orange glaze sauce that seasoned the risotto incredibly. A very well rounded and delicious dish. The calamari was great as well. I prefer an asian style calamari but this place did a great job. It was unique, I've never had calamari with a thick breading like that. but I like it. Not my favorite way to eat it. All the cocktails were delicious and crafty. Not a beat skipped there. The shrub was my favorite. This was a fantastic dining experience.
