Easily the best restaurant in Pittsfield, in my opinion of course. Their rotating menu of food and cocktails changes almost weekly, and the quality and attention to detail to ingredients rivals that of any metropolitan city. I've never tried anything here I didn't like, but the consistent stand outs are the Mac and cheese and Brie burger, though you really can't go wrong with any burger. Recently tried the chicken liver mousse appetizer, and I'll definitely be getting it again. Ambience is hip and cute, but not pretentious. If you're looking for a classy night out with delicious food to boot, this is the place. Perfect for a date. If you find yourself more north., try out their sister restaurant, Public. We found this place accidentally as we were staying in the hotel across the street. The drinks were cold and the waitstaff couldn't have been nicer. They answered all our questions. Each of us ordered a different entree and we all enjoyed our meals. Had to wait for them to get my food together, even though I had phone an hour plus ahead and it wasn't that warm when I got back. Tried their kimchi burger, cuban and flatbread pizza. Enjoyed the kimchi burger, though I would have preferred a little more spice like a kojujang ketchup. The cuban was cut in two, but only one side had all the meat. Pizza was ok. Think it would have been better if ate at the restaurant, but wasn't sure how crowded it was going to be. Staff is excellent, make reservations, skip the wine list. This is a small tucked in location. I think this adds to the charm. The Resturant is always packed so make reservations. I had a flatbread pizza, excellent! All the people around loved their meals. It's moderately priced. There is also a bar for seating if you don't have reservations, but I bet that gets full also. There is plenty of on street parking and a few parking lots close by. I would go back. Bring a friend, you will not be unhappy. read more

The service was slow and inattentive. One burger was over cooked and another was undercooked. The undercooked burger was medium rare and nobody could be found to have the kitchen heat it up or replace it. They served honey rosemary carrots with a salmon dish and the carrots were barely cooked without a hint of rosemary or honey. The size of the salmon was quite small. We arrived at District Kitchen around 8:30 this past Saturday night and were very happy to be seated at one of the last 4-tops available. I really wish I could remember our server's name (because she was wonderful and I'd love to give her a shout out here) but I cannot. In any case, she arrived promptly with bottled water. Then asked for a drink order. Drinks were really yummy/seasonal flavors too. We had a "tender sweet loving word" (which was served in a fabulous old-style champagne glass), a harvest margarita, regular margarita and glass of sauvignon blanc. Very happy. We asked for some recommendations and our server went down the list of some of her favorites. So we started with the public salad, mixed green and calamari. All wonderful. The combination of the squash, pecans and pomegranate on the mixed greens was fabulous. For dinners we had homemade mac-n-cheese, the parpadelle, and two steak tacos. Wow! The noodles on both pasta dishes were fresh and so flavorful. Portions were extremely generous. And the steak tacos were colorful and served on these amazing, homemade taco shells. They were also the perfect combination of steak, corn, chimichurri....just all around delicious. The only somewhat disappointing thing on the menu was the banana swiss roll which we shared for dessert. Just underwhelming after such a great experience with the food. And lastly, the one other thing I should point out is how OVERLY friendly the staff really is. We Uber'd to the restaurant and almost couldn't find an Uber available to bring us back (about 5 miles down the road to Lenox). One of the servers offered to drive us. While I'm thankful we didn't have to take her up on her offer - as we ended up getting an Uber - we so appreciated her kindness in offering us a ride. However, they were out of 2 beers on tap (from an already small selection) and the food wasn't great - cold fries, overcooked fish, general lack of seasoning. We are visiting the area from Texas, and tried this place out for to-go one night and loved it so much we came back the very next night! Great service and food. We loved the salmon entree and the impossible burger. They were very accommodating, especially since we were supposed to be sitting at the bar, but someone cancelled his/her/their reservation. The salmon was delicious and came with wonderful risotto and sautéed leaks. My husband said the impossible burger was excellent. Our server was fun, helpful and had a terrific sense of humor. I visited District during a girls weekend, while we were staying nearby at the Hotel on North. We arrived around 730pm and expected a bit of a wait. We were told that it would be about 30 minutes and we could go next door in the meantime and they took our phone number. After waiting almost an hour we went back to check and they told us they still didn't have a table for us. I believe multiple parties were seated instead of us, but we never received a call or text to let us know a table had opened. We then just stood in the cramped entry way for another 15-20 minutes until a table was ready. By this point it was about 9pm and our whole party was ready to gnaw our arms off. We were seated in a corner table in the back and I was unfortunately placed on the aisle, but being so ready to eat I just didn't care. Service from then on was okay, if not a little snippy. We started with a couple cocktails and the cheese board to share. The cocktails were delicious and the cheese board had lovely accoutrements. The burger was a favorite at the table. I had the mussels and added pasta for $3, overall it was just meh. Without the pasta it would've been saucy enough, but I was looking for a little more substance to the meal. Unfortunately adding pasta meant that it wasn't enough sauce. It ended up being very underwhelming and almost dry which was very strange. Overall if I found myself back in the area I might pop in for a second try, only due to the lack of options nearby. Would definitely hope for better service and food on the next go round. read more

After waiting 45 minutes the shrimp in my Caesar Salad were not cooked. Raw in the centers. I have a severe medical condition, lymphedema about which I told the woman who seated us. The manager spoke very rudely to us and brought a chair which made my legs worse by cutting off the circulation sharply in my calves. When we spoke politely to the manager, he told us he wasn't rude. No apology, no regret, no, can I seat you somewhere else? Just uncooked shrimp and a manager who allowed his own frustration with his lack of people in the kitchen be unkind, and worse, not listen when a reasonable explanation was given. Awful experience. So sad when a manager can't manage his own feelings. When told about the shrimp he said, I'm sure you can see this from my side. Don't eat here. Please. Our last visit was very nice. We went before seeing a Dracula at The colonial theater. The food was good and the service was fast.

We were taking a weekend away and I found District on Google. The menu descriptions are loaded with so many flavor combos that your head will spin...I'm a curious "let me try it all" kind of way. We started with the pork tostada and it was excellent. The fresh in house pickled veggies were amazing on it. My husband had the salmon with risotto and absolutely loved it. I ordered the cheese and charcuterie board and it pushed this restaurant to one of my top ten close by but out of town restaurants. Great wine and beer list (almost everything is local). We will most definitely be back even though it is over an hour drive for us. Our server, Lindsay, was AWESOME! Their website says they change their menu seasonally....we can't wait to see what's next! read more

So first off the lighting of the exterior is non existent, if you are proud of your establishment at least light up your sign, and as far as Apple Maps go, it did not specify right or left side of street.( not restaurants fault!) actually the hostess came outside in 2 degree weather when I called!(NICE). Second, your handicap entrance in the breezeway is a nice touch, as long as it is not blocked by another privileged idiot. Staff did not seem to care when I mentioned it. Third, and this is all on Yelp, menu did not match house menu. Was told I should go directly to house website. That did work with current menu but not current drink menu. Now as far as the food and service, OUTSTANDING! Attentive staff and excellent food! So in the end whoever is in charge of the online reputation of the establishment needs to do a better job, the waitstaff and cooks are doing their job well! So at night if you want to come it is directly across the street from Holiday Inn. There is parking out back, although I did not look in the dark for restriction signs. We parked in a handicap spot but I'm pretty sure it belongs to the bank. read more

Let me start off by saying that I had a fantastic meal. The appetizer of mussels in tomato sauce, chorizo and kale was amazing. I shared this with my coworker and it was plenty. I can see sharing this with one more person. My beer was great and the side car I had later was also very good and very strong. My coworker had the steak which she enjoyed. I had the snapper which was also fantastic. The fish was not over cooked and had a nice crispy skin. The only reason this place is a four and not five stars is the fact that the sauce used for the snapper was almost exactly the same as mussels. I wished the server would have told me. I would have tried something else instead. To recycle the same sauce for an entree and an appetizer is a bit of a no no in my book even if it's fantastic. To summarize, the quality and quantity of food is fantastic. The only thing I'd suggest is to address any dishes which shares the same preparation so that we don't get too much of a good thing. read more

All I can say is WOW!!! Returned to the city (Pittsfield)where I used to summer back in the day. On way through to New York State. Found District highly rated in Yelp. Found it on side of building. Didn't look like anything special until we stepped inside. Warm greeting at front desk, a table near the window, a waitress who knew her stuff. We were hungry. Ordered Rick shrimp and calamari salad appetizer. Bread and water came out first. Everything was fresh, unique, really good. As the music played in a really cool decorated nyc style cafe we were realizing this was a find. I ordered a nitrates and tomato salad. Sooo fresh. A glass of Italian Red and our entrees in the way. Two salmon plates cooked to perfection and it's accompaniments made a lasting impression. My 89 year old Italian mother had the zucchini eggplant lasagna with home made sausage and she knew she was the winner. Usually very critical of Italian dishes - not this time. She won. You have to try this place. It won't disappoint. One of the best meals I have had in 5 years. read more

This experience was a rollercoaster. I was really excited by the menu I found online for this place. And when I came in, was encouraged by how packed it was on a Wednesday night. The menu we were presented with was a little different from what I found but there were still some delicious sounding vegan options. The server was super friendly and they warn you on the menu that the food is made fresh so can take a while. Our wait time was pretty disastrous...something like an hour. Our server seemed pretty apologetic and did offer us some free bread eventually but honestly a place like this should offer that to every one at the beginning of the meal not after 60 minutes. The food that did comes was very very tasty - everything on our table was flavorful and the wine list descriptions are beautifully detailed. My friend's steak was unfortunately cold when it finally came and my appetizer came at the same time as the entree which was annoying that we couldn't have gotten my appetizer and his steak while we waited for them to finish my main course or something. He really did not enjoy his meal because of the wait and how agitated it made him. I know things can get chaotic in a kitchen so I don't blame the server but what my friend and I are most disappointed about is that management didn't take a single item off of our bill or offer a free dessert. Plus it took them forever to circle back with the check. I would still give this place a second chance if I lived around here but my friend who is more local said he definitely will not. read more

Alright. This is no doubt a VERY popular place. Wall to wall people when you walk in, and the noise is not conducive to eating. A star taken off right there for ambience and noise level. It's as if you are at a yakkety yak convention. If you are waiting for a table, expect to wait about 35-40 minutes during peak times (read weekends and holidays). I sat at the bar; the waiters were very cordial and helpful. The wait staff is extra nice--this is a big plus. The food: excellent, and not so good. Let me explain. The brie burger that I ordered was impeccably delicious; that was the best burger I've had in the Berkshires, or perhaps the entire Northeast. Yes, it was THAT good. Now, I was hoping for a side of mashed potatoes, but what I got was fingerlings (or some related sort of potatoes) smashed together. I was spitting out the peels left and right (removing them from my craw, so to speak). I ended up abandoning the mess. The greens that came with the burger was a great idea--tasty, but not much in the way of lettuce. I'd have to say that the presentation on this left something to be desired--it was put on the plate, and looked like the local DOT had jut thrown some lawn clippings on the side of the plate. Tasty, but again, not exciting to look at. OK, but minus two stars for ambiance, and presentation of food. I was expecting better. read more

We came here on a whim and because it had good ratings on Yelp. The staff here was very friendly. We were served some warm bread to start. We got some truffle fries which were delicious. I got the Mac N cheese and my boyfriend got the seafood stew. Mine was delicious. His was also delicious but he didn't like how many potatoes there were. But aside from that he felt like it had a good flavor and kick to it. The restaurant is fairly small, but nice. We were sitting very close to the table next to us so it was a bit uncomfortable to chat a lot. Overall a good experience on a cold rainy day! read more

Where to begin? The location in downtown Pittsfield is easy to find if you have GPS. Once out of the parked car my wife and I walked by the under lit entrance a couple of times debating which door to enter. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and brought directly to our reserved table. With great anticipation the dining experience began. I love a dimly lit room especially when trying to sleep, but having a bit more light to read the menu would have been helpful. Thankfully my wife had her cellphone flashlight at the ready. The bright light it offered must have bothered other diners.. Understanding that The District offered high-end pub food intrigued me. I like pub food - simple, inexpensive grub for those evenings when I am too lazy to cook. I was prepare to see the oxymoronic expression (high-end pub food) resolve around an intriguing new take on old classics. Here the menu left me uninspired. An average pub menu has me debating over a half dozen or so choices. I found nothing to inspire. The menu seemed to offer a list of leftovers. Not even those familiar options like fish and chips were to be found. So why not try the most basic of pub fare - the hamburger? What was placed before me was the typical machine pressed, thin slab of processed beef offered by the burger chains, but without the flame-broiled flavor. Covering the plate in an apparent attempt to compensate for the silver dollar-sized burger was a mountain of greasy fries. Where was the high-end? Oh, I get it...the price. The price is the high-end and I am the schnoock willing to pay it. Underwhelmed by dinner and with my wife equally disappointed with her fish tacos, I wanted to make amends. We ordered cheesecake to share. In keeping with the sad rendition of "pub fool" (misspelling intentional), what arrived was a plate of whipping cream disguising a silver dollar sized, half inch high insult. Enough already. Pittsfield has a surprising number of really good restaurants - our favorite being the Indian restaurant around the corner. Let me conclude by saying the the wait staff at The District was terrific. A better restaurant should try to nab these people. read more

Let's start with online queuing - it was awesome to "wait in line" while driving to the restaurant! Then we'll stop at cocktails: please, take the foodless time to savor the flavor of a Rye Baby (it is SO worth it)! We made an appetizer out of truffle fries which could have sent us home satisfied already... But we persevered and enjoyed PEI mussels & the linguini with shrimp. Flavors astounded and prompted a good deal of, "Oooo, try this!" But wait, there's more! Although sadly they ran out of the bread pudding we craved, the flourless chocolate torte and its accompanying peanut brittle were delightful.
