Solid and a return affair for sure. I've been here a few times now that ranged in awesomeness to real good. Resy reservations is a good idea but not always needed, since walk-in usually has space. Center bar or seating around the wall or high tops. The Gambas Al Ajillo is one of my favorites as you can see with photos from 3 different orders . I've tried the Ahi Tuna on a toast crisp was a bit disappointing. It was crisp verging on hot and hard and wanting more tuna to give a bigger bite. The Scallops were one other favorite. We arrived at District San Jose at 6:45pm for a 7:00pm reservation. There was no host, and although the restaurant was half empty, no one acknowledged us. The couple in front of us eventually asked a waiter (Tyler), who rolled his eyes and said "we'll be with you shortly." They ended up leaving. When Tyler finally seated us, we asked for an outdoor fire pit table. He put us at a small table by the door and, when we pointed out that other fire pit tables were occupied by two-person groups, he said "well they shouldn't be there, if you don't like it you can leave." He then refused to call a manager and walked away. The couple behind us, who witnessed this, also left. Another waiter later apologized and told us to sit at the fire pit, but after 10 more minutes without service, we left too. We were excited to try District for the first time, but the rude and dismissive service--especially from Tyler--completely ruined the experience. Sadly, we won't be coming back. read more

Watermelon radishes, avocado, lettuce that's crispy and dressing that complements every ingredient perfectly; they made this so well and it's a good, fresh flavor that helped us cut the grease from our entrees - Margherita pizza: as expected. Dough is slightly thicker at crust, crispy on outside, fluffy on inside - sopressata salami pizza: this is a flavor bomb! This was probably my favorite pizza between the two. It was quite heavy and salty though (good thing we had the salad and ceviche to help cut the heavy greasiness :P ) - chicken sliders: it's much better than it looks! Crispy batter on the outside, juicy chicken on the inside. Comes with two sliders. Friend originally really wanted the burger slider but ended up with the chicken and preferred the chicken instead - slider burger: they ask you how you want your burger cooked! We walked in as a group of 5 on a week night after our original location was blasting the World Cup. This was a really fortuitous find! The inside has a lot of seating and there is a small patio outside. The music is not so loud that you cannot have a conversation with a group at dinner. We had the cheese plate, arugula salad, cauliflower, chicken empanadas, oysters and a pizza. The cheese plate was gorgeous and so much more food than we were expecting. The other highlight for me was the cauliflower, it also had broccolini and a really tasty slightly spicy puree. We practically licked that bowl. Everything else was also very good. This was the worst dining experience I'd had in a very long time. Slow service, wrong orders, forgotten wrong orders, 45 minutes to finally be able to order my drink, then a forgotten drink. A couple of our dishes came so salty we had to send it back, only for it to still arrive salty - or not at all. The place was only 1/3 full and they had enough staff. Because of how slow things were and the lackluster food, we left hungry 2.5 hours later to eat elsewhere. Everyone was upset. My party of 3 was immediately seated, and we quickly placed our orders. For appetizers, we tried the fried elote, which was a standout dish. The corn slices were crispy and covered in a spicy, salty rub. The lime added a zesty touch, and the fried elote also came with a creamy sauce. I also got the roasted cauliflower, which was savory and soft. I really liked the contrast of the salty cauliflower with the sweet sherried sultanas. Every bite was a burst of flavor. I was excited to try the buttermilk fried chicken sliders, and it was a pretty good dish. It did not stand out, but the chicken was fried well, paired with a fresh chili slaw. I was impressed by the size of the maple bacon flatbread - it was huge and had both sweet and salty flavors. The lamb meatballs were also quite delicious. The meatballs were seasoned well and covered in tomato sauce. It paired super well with the plain bread it came with. I was super impressed with my experience thus far. However, I then ordered the pear & black currant crisp at the end of the meal. I have no idea what happened, but it ended up taking forty minutes to arrive. The meal beforehand had proceeded smoothly, but it just took so long for the dessert to arrive. I'm not sure if the order was not processed or if it was somehow lost. I asked three separate waiters about the status of the dessert. Each time, they said the dessert was almost ready. This was never the case. After maybe twenty minutes, I tried to cancel my order, but the waiter had already processed my order and would not refund me. I was really frustrated by what was going on. As I was preparing to leave without the dessert, it finally arrived. It was absolutely not worth the forty minute wait. The food at District was undeniably good. However, the dessert mishap and the lack of communication on what was going on was a frustrating conclusion to an otherwise positive experience. I don't think this is a common occurrence, so I would still recommend checking this restaurant out. read more

They said they had no tables available at 5:30 because they were all reserved, yet when I left, the majority of the restaurant's tables were empty. I had to sit at the bar with my date, even though I would have preferred to treat her better at the many tables you had available when I left. I love District. The vibes are great, the music is good, and I love that they offer a variety of drink flight and tapas options. They also offer craft cocktails; I usually drink a whiskey based espresso martini every time. The whiskey and wine menus are quite expansive so you're sure to find a drink you'll enjoy. They also have a late night snack menu once the kitchen closes for their main menu. For the area, ambiance, options, and quality of food, I'd say prices are pretty fair but can be a bit over priced here and there for certain items and the portion received. Overall, the service is usually ppretty good and our servers have always been great with questions and recommendations. I'd definitely recommend but would caution you to always make a reservation just in case. They are very busy Friday and Saturday evenings and you'll sometimes be waiting for quite some time on a wait list without one. However, there is plenty of bar seating, so you're able to sit there without a reservation if you find available seating. But again, on the weekends there may not be space, so best to make a reservation on weekend nights if you know you'll be headed there ahead of time. read more

They always checked on us throughout dinner. Ambience is sultry and sexy. We got there early enough to catch happy hour. We ordered an Old Fashioned, Deviled Eggs and House Cut Fries off that menu. The drink was strong and delicious. The deviled eggs were tasty with a hint of heat, and the fries were perfectly cooked. I love a little crisp and soggy combo. IYKYK For my cocktail, I ordered the De-Tox. Light and refreshing. Not too sweet. For dinner: Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad: I love watermelon in salad! The tomatoes were also sweet so you could barely tell if you're eating a tomato or a piece of watermelon. The dressing was delicate yet flavorful. The basil was a nice balance. Grilled Hanger Steak: Perfectly cooked and the sauce was a terrific compliment to the meat and veggies. For dessert we had the Bourbon Peach and Blackberry Crisp. We waited about 10 minutes before giving up - no on acknowledged our presence. A family was also waiting for the host and they also gave up shortly before we did. Even if we had waited for someone to seat us, its a bad sign for slow service to come. I love district for a chill night out with friends! It's located in the San Pedro Square so you can either find street parking and walk over or park in the parking garage that is located right in front of the restaurant. They have a nice little outdoor eating area with some fire pits and ample indoor seating options. You can make reservations and they also take walk ins. I usually walk in and have never had to wait longer than 10 mins. The service is always great and we just overall love the chill upscale vibe with that ambiance dim lighting. The have an online menu via the QR code that is posted on the tables. This is one of my go to spots in DTSJ to grab a nice glass of wine. They have a good selection of wines and offer tasting flights. I'm not a big whiskey drinker but apparently they are known for that as well. For food, my friends and I ALWAYS order their fries. They are deliciously crispy and flavorful and it's a nice portion too! This time around we ordered the charcuterie board. The crostini was so good! Light and crispy. It was a great portion to share with 3 people. For the veg out there, they don't really have that many vegetarian options for their actual entrees aside from pizza and unfortunately do not have a vegetarian substitute for their burgers. Before seeing a stand up comedy act , 4 of us thought to check out happy hour at District and decided to order a bunch of small bites and drinks. We sat at a table outside with a warm evening breeze. Perfect for an outdoor meal! We ordered their deviled eggs, french fries, 2 cheeseburgers, oysters on half shell n chicken wings. Also had cocktails. Deviled eggs had quite a kick of spice and salt! A bit much in that one bite. 3/5 Raw oysters were creamy and tasty. 5/5 Fries were pretty good. Most were crispy and seasoned just right. 5/5 Chicken wings were dry tasting and rub seasoning was ok. Nothing special in my opinion. 2/5 Cheeseburger was over-seasoned. We can taste the salt in the ground beef. Then to add cheese on top of the seasoned meat, just made it super salty! Only thing good was the beef was juicy. The meat was overcooked. We asked for medium, but it was well done. 2/5 As for the cocktail, my bf and I had a vodka soda and cranberry juice. I thought it was bland. Didn't have much alcohol nor much juice or flavor. For the price paid, might as well drink water! 2/5 More than half of the things we ordered were a miss. We went here before a concert at SAP. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but we were still waiting for other friends to arrive to order. We couldn't flag down our server for the life of us...though would say he/the bartender, was the ONLY server for the whole restaurant. There was also a food runner as well as the manager whom I mentioned above. We finally got our order taken and all had ordered meals for ourselves. 1. Shrimp with Lemon Orzo 2. Fried chicken sliders (2 of them) 3. Scallops w/ pork belly (3 small-med scallops) 4. And tuna Tartare bites We weren't informed that each dish would come out of the kitchen at drastically different times. Easily a minimum of 5 min apart. Apparently this restaurants menu should be treated like a Tapas restaurant that everything was shared. This isn't obvious or explained even when everyone is ordering meals like you would normally. The portion sizes are smaller for their price and we weren't really checked on to be asked if we wanted another round etc. Needless to say the food was decent but the service and lack of attention left us hungry and running late to the concert even though we had planned 2 hours. I've never had fried avocado fries before, but they were surprisingly tasty in the best way possible. As for the deviled eggs, I've had better but could not pass up the $8! This is a fun place to come to when you want to stop in for a drink. It has a fun vibe. The food is good, but I think is way overpriced for what you get. For example, you get four scallops with no side or anything with it and it cost $27. Also, while the flavor was good, they were lukewarm it best. Someone else in my party ordered the fried chicken sliders, and they said that they were really good. Service is good here. The servers are very friendly and prompt. I don't know that I'll come back here to eat. read more

Came here on a gloomy cold Wednesday night. Was told there was a short wait even though there were a number of tables open - said tables were reserved. Grabbed a drink at the bar and by the times our drinks came we then got sat at said reserved tables. During our whole stay, nobody else came to fill the reserved tables. The place was moderately filled, not packed but the service was very absent for a not busy day. When we got sat, our server took a while to realize we didn't have menus. Once the food came our server never came back to check in, but had plenty of time to chit chat with coworkers. The food was ok. The fries were old and the leftover nubs. The fried chicken sliders were pretty good. Overall for price and what you get between food and service, I rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

Overall, this was a very delicious meal. Pretty decent sized place and there was no wait time. I got seated immediately on a Thursday night. Staff was very friendly. Don't let my pics fool you, it's pretty dimmed in the restaurant so I had to use a flashlight to get better photos. Appetizers: Raw oysters were delicious. Very clean and fresh ! I wasn't too fond of their vinegar sauce. Unfortunately, they didn't have Tabasco sauce but they provided tapatio and horseradish which was good enough in my opinion. Spiced Chicken Wings were good but I did feel like they could have been more seasoned. Not only that, but the sauce had a weird aftertaste that I wasn't too fond of. So I mixed tapatio with the dip and that made the aftertaste go away. Entrees: Margherita pizza was delicious ! It was the perfect amount of Basil. I also loved how doughy their pizza was but still had a nice crunch ! Overall, it was packed with a lot of flavors and I would say it is a MUST TRY! District Burger was so juicy. The tuna was beautifully presented over crispy rice but it was cut so small that I couldn't really taste it. The pizza was decent and arrived super hot so that was nice. Our servers were also friendly and very attentive at the bar seating. However, the 6% surcharge should have been printed on the dining menu as well, not just the drinks menu. I didn't order any drinks, so it came as a surprise. Overall I probably wouldn't return for a full meal but maybe for happy hour and appetizers. read more
