Came here for a happy hour dinner with my friend. They had a nice bar area in the middle and plenty of seating with enough space surrounding each table. It was dim lighting but not super dark, the ambiance was nice for a little more than casual dinner night out. The drinks were ok so definitely come during HH. We shared the pizza, Brussels sprouts, fries and scallops. Pizza was really yummy. Brussel sprouts and scallops were full of flavor. The fries were really dry, so I'd pass on that. It was my birthday that week and the servers/hosts were super nice and gave us a cute ice cream dessert with wafers! A super sweet treat. I don't remember the flavors but one of them was bourbon (strong taste if you like bourbon). First time coming here. Nice music, ambiance was nice and food was good. When we finally got to the front to speak with the host, she didn't seem too welcoming. We asked for a table for 2. Her response was we don't have any tables available because of reservations. Mind you half of the restaurant was empty. So instead they sat us outside. Was there for a good hour in a half and yet the tables in the restaurant were still empty. So I question the host comment about being full with reservations. Also I noticed when I got home they charged me $10 more than what they were suppose to charge me. And on top of it I gave my server a tip. I don't think that's acceptable at all. Beautiful restaurant with great food! The inside has a stunning bar and it's such a cool vibe. My friend and I arrived in time for happy hour and we wnjoyed a few items off the happy hour menu. My old fashioned was strong and we enjoyed our deviled eggs. We shared the watermelon heirloom tomato salad and the hangar steak. The salad was cool and refreshing. The steak was grilled perfectly. Came here on a Friday night with a group of 5. We had made reservations and even though we got there late, they were able to seat us right away. Food- 10/10 The oysters were delicious and tasted fresh. The pizza was very flavorful (we ordered the Margherita pizza and added pepperoni). Came here on a Friday night and were able to get seated right away outdoors. Restaurant is located on the busy San Pedro square downtown area, so it's quite lively. We ordered the pork belly slider, and it was delicious! Gotta love their Washington oysters, very fresh and well cleaned. The pizza is very tasty, there was plenty of cheese on it. I will be back to try their other dishes. The dessert was their house vanilla ice cream on top of fruit filling. Taste good but I didn't like the gooy texture. This is a nice and relaxing bar right behind San Pedro Square Market, along the other bars nearby. I went with a friend around 8 pm and it wasn't super busy for a Friday night. I ordered a Blue Steel cocktail which tasted pretty good and wasn't too strong. I was hungry and decided to order a Napoli pizza. That was probably my biggest mistake of the night. I would have to give the pizza a 1/5, and the best I can describe it is a High school lunch pizza - too liquidy, clearly the tomato sauce wasn't thick and rather more like liquid. The dough was soggy from the overflowing tomato sauce. It was only bearable due to the drink and I was buzzed. It's definitely more of just a bar and not actually serving good food in my opinion. I should've tried the Burrata, but was put off my other reviews of it. The overall vibe was good and some bartenders are more attentive than others - it's a Friday night and I think some of them just wanted to clock out already. Amazing atmosphere and food at District! When I lived in San Jose never went because I thought was only a cocktails place with no food. Last month I went on a business trip and was lucky enough to be there during Restaurants week, so decided to give it a try. I loved the sampler of ceviche I got as well as the recommended light fresh beer. Bartender was super friendly and attentive. I went just by myself and sat at the bar but never felt awkward, all the opposite...enjoyed the food, the drink, the art in the walls, observed way more the nice details than when sharing a meal with someone. It was a great experience. Ambiance is top, people can actually talk, not overcrowded and not super noisy. People can sit inside our outside, somehow I prefer inside, maybe because I found it very chic. read more

We ordered: + Brussel Sprouts: The best appetizer of the night. They were crispy and flavorful. + Burrata: The worst appetizer of the night. I do not recommend ordering this. It was the tiniest amount of Burrata "blobs" which was embarrassing. The plate came with two measly crisps. This was quite a rip off for $18.00. + Ahi Tuna Poke: Hubs ordered this one and mentioned the seafood was pretty bad. One of our friends complained of a stomach ache. + Mushroom Pizza: It was one of the better choices we had for the main course. The mushrooms and cheese hit the spot. All in all, the restaurant had the looks but the vibe just was not there. The service was lacking as they forgot about our dishes. We had some folks start their meals while others waited for their dishes. It was poorly executed. The arancini was my favorite bite of the whole night, the ceviche was so fun and refreshing, and the whiskey flights were great. Happy hour was such a good deal. However. We only saw our waitress once, when she sat us down and let us order (we had seen the menu on the ride over). Over the whole hour+ we were there, she never stopped by even to ask how things were. We never got the opportunity to order more (which we said we wanted to do), and I was so sad I couldn't get more arancini or any other drinks. First time here last night.... I was impressed. It was just two of us, so we sat at the bar. The food was good, but it was all very rich for my taste (we had trouble finishing everything). We only ate 4 appetizers, and there were definitely more items on the menu that I would like to try! Next time I will be more mindful to order something pickled or acidic to balance out the richness of some of the other items. FOOD Lamb Meatballs: I'm not a fan of lamb (I think it's gamey), but my date thought these were good! Chicken Wings: tasty, but the size threw us off/was slightly unappetizing (they were literally wings from baby chickens). I'd prefer fewer "normal" sized wings vs. many miniature wings. Truffle French Fries: good fries, but lacking any truffle flavor IMO. Roasted Cauliflower: this dish was the standout of our meal! Perfectly roasted with a romesco sauce that was sweet with a hint of spice. 100% would recommend and would order again. DRINK Greyhound: Bitter for my taste, but my date thought this was one of the better drinks of the night. Blue Dolphin: refreshing, perfectly chilled, free.... my favorite drink ;) ETC. The highlight of the night was our bartender Garret! He was friendly, attentive, kept his cool during the busy Warriors game (not that it matters, he's also very handsome), and I think he said it was only his 5th night on the job! I love finding new happy hour spots! The Friday happy hour is good when you're around town. There's a large amount of seating -- indoors and outdoors. There's a good amount of options of drinks and food available with the happy hour. The oysters were fresh and tasted great! Their additional sauce was good but not necessary for the best taste. The seafood ceviche had plantain chips, shrimp and octopus inside. It had a refreshing flavor and complemented each other. The plantain chips were very crisp as well. The Moscow mule was made as it should be and my well drink was also alright. The oxtail pastry was not it. While it was interesting and had good flavor, it took an extremely long time to come out. It was the last item (+20min) that arrived to our table. The outside was crispy, but it was not worth the trouble or cost for it. Additionally, the staff was reasonably attentive but our waitress messed up our order. She ended up not charging us for her mistake. It was nice that she took care of the issue quickly and without hassle. I appreciated her quick efforts and resolution! Went before a show at the performing arts Saturday and was excited they had HH even on the weekends from 5-6pm. Service: Andre was incredible! He alerted us to start with the HH menu, gave solid advice on his top 5 items on the overall menu, and kept checking in on us so we got the most out of HH and beyond. Seriously better service than some Michelin restaurants I've been to lately. Made the experience that much more enjoyable for my friend and I. HH - $9 legit old fashioneds with the large ice cube and all 4 stars - $8 Spinach and cheese arancini: super crispy and tasty. 4.5 stars - $8 ceviche: big slices of tangy shrimp, fish, and calamari with a bunch of plantain chips. 4 stars Non HH - Bubble trouble: fun bubbly trio flight with one from Spain, France, and Napa. 4 stars - Huli Huli Shrimp: chili mango glazed, not fried, tasty, topped with macademias, and nice size with 5 shrimp on a skewer. 4 stars - Cauliflower: huge plate and liked the pistacchio romesco. 3.5 stars - Hanger steak: decent sized, cooked fine, and topped with large tempura onion rings. 3.5 stars Really enjoyed our stop here and will be back for HH--hope Andre will be there again too! read more

The review is more for the drinks than the service. Their cocktail choices were not that great with most of them being bitter or strong. I got the gun drink and it made me feel upset. They also do not carry Ciroc which is a major disappointment! The service was great but the staff seemed very busy which is good! They took our orders quickly and brought our food out efficiently. The food was mediocre. I ordered the wings and the rub they use isn't that tasty. Much better off getting wings at bdubs then heading over here! Saturday was my second time at District San Jose, and I really enjoyed it! They were able to squeeze in our large group (10+ people) with no reservation and no wait time. We sat indoors, on some very comfortable cushioned benches/couches, but their outdoor seating area is also very pleasant (better for dates, in my opinion). For drinks, I ended up getting a glass of wine but all my friends LOVED the Kramer's Cosmo. My friend and I split the Napoli Pizza, which was good, but I strongly prefer the Mushroom Pizza I got last time. The House Cut Fries were also great! I had been previously to District San Jose before and had enjoyed the happy hour and pizza, but this past weekend was very disappointing. We were running a few minutes behind and luckily someone did pick up when I called and assured us they would hold our outdoor table reservation. We ordered pretty much everything on the happy hour and the only thing that I found myself going back for were the fries. Although priced decently for happy hour the portions and/or taste just were not there. The deviled eggs too tart, and the tempura avocado having a fishy taste to it threw me off. The waitress did comment how they are paring down on some of the menu items due to Covid times. Service was nice as they did bring out food rather quickly and allowed us a small tasting for some wines we were considering getting. Luckily the chardonnay was easy enough to drink. My husband and I used to come here quite often for happy hour before Covid shut down. Our go-to's used to be appetizers from the happy hour menu as well as the bone marrow and pizza. Some girlfriends and I came during happy hour time this past Saturday and were pretty disappointed. I feel as though the quality of the food has gone way downhill. We ended up ordering almost everything from the happy hour menu but everything was not that great tasting, so we ended up leaving and not ordering a pizza as planned. The deviled eggs tasted sour and the chicken wings were extremely tiny and salty. The best items on the happy hour menu were the Arancini and the french fries. I love the wooden tables, lighting, and overall ambience. They had a great playlist going as well! Happy hour deals include 2 oysters for $3 (BOGO free) and an assortment of $7 appetizers and drinks! We kinda went crazy on the happy hour deals, and I ended up obscenely full. My favorites of the bunch were the chicken wings (so tender, juicy, and crispy on the outside!) and french fries (large portion, fresh, and yummy dipping sauce!) The best bang for your buck during happy hour is the ceviche mixto (normally $16). Oysters are a bit small, but I can't complain when they're $1.50 each. There is a parking lot right across the street. However, note that District SJ no longer validates parking (at the time of this review). With that in mind, it's better if you can find meter parking around the area (free after 6 PM). read more

What an ambiance! We came here right before a show nearby and was super pleased with ambiance. Right on the patio you have tables under amazing heaters and a cute sitting area in case you just want to hang with a few friends near a fire pit. The happy hour was going at the time and I'd say it had some pretty good eats, but not a whole ton to choose from. We tried the ceviche, wings, tempura avocado, oysters, spinach balls, and my all time fav fries. The fries were served with this amazing creamy aioli sauce that gives you garlic vibes without being too powerful. They also make their own ketchup so expect a hint of sweetness in every dip. I personally liked it but some in our group preferred the classic taste. Its nice when a place puts their own spin on sauces IMO. I wish our service was a bit better. We had a waitress who was very friendly which always goes a long way, we just wished we saw her more frequently. We had ordered our plates in rounds so we don't get too full but after each round we found ourselves waiting long periods before seeing her again outside. Patio service can be tough but I think always anticipating guests needs really helps stay on top of service. Often times we were wondering where she was and got pretty worried toward the end of the meal when happy hour was coming to an end, and in the last minutes before it was over, we finally saw her to order our last round of drinks, but had she came back more frequently we would have ordered more so the restaurant missed out on our business. Still really loved the ambiance and convenience this place had being so close to many event venues. Came here for HH on a Friday afternoon with some co-workers to enjoy a night out, big mistake--should have just gone straight to San Pedro Square Market. Their HH is only 1 hour long (5 PM - 6 PM) not sure if it's cut short due to COVID hours but they open at 5 PM. They have a small menu for food & drinks that are applicable towards the HH deals ($7 each). I do have to say that the venue is nice, they have a fair amount of outdoor & indoor seating. It's more on the "boujee" side of eateries. I had ordered a drink & their ceviche. The ceviche was actually pretty good and the cool twist that they do is give plantain chips instead of tortilla chips (though there's not much flavor from the plantains). There are no paper menus due to COVID, so they have QCR codes placed on the table.  ~~Parking: It's right in between to San Pedro Square Market and the old Spaghetti Factory. There's a parking lot across the street that you can park at, but from the other reviews it seems like the District does NOT validate parking. I parked at a friend's place and walked over.  ~~Service: Fair. Came here on a Saturday night for drinks near closing time, they probably had just recently reopened due to COVID, so the place wasn't packed. We were seated immediately, under some heat lamps outdoors that gave off a lot of heat (great to keep you warm on a cold night). The ambiance is nice, some tables even having small firepits. However, our experience was just alright. The service was very slow (even with the place not being busy), and the drinks barely had any alcohol in them. My boyfriend couldn't even get his regular drink, jack and coke, because they didn't have Jack Daniels (he got Jameson instead). The saving grace was the staff. Our server was Madeline, and she was very friendly. The host and servers overall were nice... just inexplicably slow.
