Got there EARLY - right as they were opening. The server did not pretend that he was happy we were there either. No worries right... because I ordered their version of a Monte Cristo and I was so happy! Even though this is NOT a true Monte Cristo, it was delicious. It is sausage, bacon and egg sandwiched between three slices of french toast. This goodness was served up with crispy hash browns and hot coffee. Service wasn't friendly but it was fast. Where is the option for NEGATIVE stars????! I honestly have no clue how this restaurant even stays in business? Initially when we pulled up on the outside my husband took a breath and said," MMM... it smells good!" Then we went in and he said, "you smell that? Smells like a wet moldy rag" but we were there and wanted to give it a chance.... and hunger can lead you to bad decisions. My husband was craving corned beef hash, I wanted Chicken fried steak... it was on the menu which is how we ended up in this place via YELP. I read reviews and the main complaints were slow crappy service so those weren't a big deal to us, and off we went. We ordered our food... on the menu where the corn beef hash and the chicken fried steak were listed it also said that it came with your choice of hashbrowns daddy potatoes you could upgrade to potato pancakes and so forth so when my husband ordered the corn beef hash the girl told him his doesn't come with it because it already has the potato hash in his corned beef hash so we were a little taken aback by that because on the menu it did state what it came with but, it was our first time and so we just figured we'll see how it goes... I ordered my chicken fried steak and upgraded for the loaded potato pancakes instead of hashbrowns. The food arrived and it looked nothing like you would expect, definitely different and not in a good way but again we were giving it a chance and the corn beef hash was just a crap load of hashbrowns with what looked like deli sliced pastrami bits mixed in with it, and my loaded potato pancakes were the size of pancakes loaded with who knows what and tasted like nothing but grease I have never ever seen corned beef hash look that way and it tasted just as bad as it looked, the potatoes weren't even crispy, barely cooked... just awful. His meal came out with more hashbrowns which the waitress said was not going to happen so we asked the waitress about that and she stated " I have never seen it come out like that before I don't know what happened?" I then proceeded to tell her that in the menu it states that it comes with it and her response was, "well I've been working here for a while and I've never seen it come out like that before"‍ (of course you haven't ) we added a side order of the daddy potatoes and when they came out, they looked good beautiful golden brown and crispy but when you taste of them they were just oil filled. My chicken fried steak llooked good, but tasted old and the gravy was not even fresh..probably canned or from a package. We are NOT Washingtonians... moved here from the East coast (New York and Florida where the food is GREAT!) so maybe we have bigger expectations for a $52 breakfast?!! read more

This little diner was such a sweet find. Very nice staff & the food just delicious comfort home style cooking. I had the Cod Fish Tacos with zucchini fries and seriously saying the tacos were perfect and portion was definitely not skimpy! This was the worst pick up experience we've ever had. Food was ready 45 minutes later then our pick up time. One order was completely missing after we were told 3 times that it had been double checked against our receipt. The Eggs Benedict was the worst I've ever had. I think they forgot the seasoning... I had the chicken and waffle and my partner had the eggs Benedict. Both were pretty flavorless. The chicken while having a nice crisp to it really didn't have any flavor. The waffle was good but nothing that exciting. Her eggs Benny was also not that exciting. Typical diner food I guess. Sorry Dixies.. I used to love you. I have frequented this place many times. Previusly to last weeks attendance i had nothing but good home town cooking. But something has changed. There were three in our party, my son, husband and I. We walked in were immediatly seated, not busy for a sunday morning. WAitress took our order about 10 min after being seated. 45 min later, my husband asked our waitiress if our food was close to be done. We had seen two other tables get up and walk out. She said yes it was coming up. I ordered the eggs benedict, the husband the breakfast burrito and our son , sausage and hashbrowns. The food finally comes! yay! I took one bit and literraly spit my food out. It takes a lot for me to not be able to swallow a bite of food. The hollandaise sauce was obviously powdered and it tasted like sour milk and cream cheese and a tin can all mixed together. the waitress comes by and asks how our food is, i expalined it was not good at all. she politely offered to have them hurry and make me another eggs benedict..i politely refused and said i would just eat my toast and hashbrowns. The breakfast burrito tasted um well just off. the manager came over and apologized for the problems and said it was on them today. I am always about giving local places another try. I went back a week later and ordered a omelett...i had heart burn and a stomach ache for the rest of the day. After 3 visits, this is what I've observed: During 2 of my 3 visits, a gentleman by the name of Dave was serving and generally working the front. Both times Dave spent 80% of his time arguing with people (employees... And I think a few customers), 10% of the time serving, 5% of the time asking people how their food was, and the remaining 5% of his time forgetting to bring things he was asked for by customers (in my case, he was busy arguing with someone, then complaining about it to a coworker. What a d-bag). He did all this both times I saw him:/ For me, the worst part was the almost constant bickering. Dave, if I want to hear arguing while I eat, I'll go to my ex-wife's house for dinner! Leave that crap at home and learn some conflict resolution skills! That was just rediculously. As for the food, I've only had lunch and dinner here. I recommend staying away from the wierd stuff, like the teriyaki pineapple burger and other over done dishes. They just aren't that good and the burgers don't stay together enough to pick them up, let alone bite into them. I did find the French dip pot roast to be good... But then again, I had that to go:) Bottom line for me is this: these guys are trying too hard with their food and really detracting from what could be some real quality by trying to do too much. The worst part of this place is the atmosphere. That arguing is a cancer that was literally making me sick while I was trying to eat. I even saw a touch of it the one time I visited when Dave wasn't working. Not sure if Dave is an owner or an employee, but if he's an owner, this place is doomed. It really is too bad. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the food is good but the service is terrible. My boyfriend and I have been there several time together and had decent experiences each time. We came when it was busy, so of course we had to wait seeing as it's a small place. The last time we went had me leaving angry. My boyfriend and I walked in and were meeting another couple for breakfast. The other couple hadn't arrived yet - no biggie. So we waited for a table and when they asked us for how many we said 4 and that we were waiting on two more. All downhill from there. We waited for our friends for about 10 minutes. During that time, there were at least three open booths and about 3-4 open tables. They wouldn't seat us. There were couples and families that came In after us that got seated right away. By the time our friends arrived I was pissed. There were 2 open booths when they arrived and we still had to wait 15 more minutes to be seated at a table. Their tables are TINY. Definitely not big enough for 4 adults - two to them being over 6 foot. So they took our drink order and I ordered a mimosa. Everyone else got their drinks and I kid you not 15 minutes later I got mine. We then asked if we could move to a booth because we hadn't even gotten our food yet and the small table was intolerable. The 12 year old looking girl that worked there went to ask if it was okay and came back and said "you can't move, sorry" then walked off. Wtf? So by this point I was pissed. Openly displaying it on my face and I'm sure I was giving attitude at this point. So we order and the food comes 30 minutes later and we had to organize the table like it was freakin feng shui in order to get our plates to fit. By this point we were all extremely uncomfortable. The only thing that saved the trip was the food. It was good but the experience was so horrible that I couldn't really enjoy it. I thought our other experiences were better, although the last time they were busy so my boyfriend and I decided to call for take out and they decided not to do take out because it was busy. So we took our business elsewhere. Another time before that, the older guy that works there with gray hair literally slammed my plate of food down in front of me. Left my ears ringing. I recently asked my boyfriend if he wanted to go there and he said he refused to give them out money anymore. I know our last experience wasn't good but I wasn't going to totally rule them out until my boyfriend then added that he thinks the place is a little racist. I was a little shocked to hear that seeing as I'm the minority and never noticed. He then went on to say that he noticed we always have to wait longer to be seated and longer to be served every time we went. That broke my heart a little so now I could really care less if we went back and will not recommend them anymore. read more

Before eating in I would have given them a 5 because their pies are fabulous but defiantly not the cooking or service... Much better local places to go for breakfast/lunch in Sumner (try Berryland Cafe or Buttered Biscuit) The details: Saturday morning, small group of 4, they wouldn't seat until the other 2 people were there even though there were several tables/booths open. Then after 15min they finally said they would seat us but we couldn't wait on the other 2 to order. Sat down they took our drink order and then didn't come back for another 20 minutes (well after the other 2 had showed up and everyone knew what they wanted). After flagging down the waitress to take our order it was another 30 minutes without food. Asked how soon our order would be ready and was told we were next. 15minutes later we finally got our food. I used my LivingSocial coupon today for lunch. I instantly like this restaurant. Booths! I love booths, and also table and chairs. Being from Texas I LOVE the diner type eatery. This was a friendly, home style place on the main drag in Sumner Washington. We arrive around noon. The waitress arrived after we were settled and took our order. She quickly brought our drinks. Husband had the chicken fried steak platter. He was impressed by the lunch portion and could barely finish it. One half pound of steak, two scoops of real mashed potatoes and a biscuit. Great gravy covered the steak and the potatoes. I had the chicken fingers and fries. Five large breaded chicken strips and a bounty of waffle fries. I asked for a side of white gravy for dipping and was gladly obliged. The gravy was some of the BEST I've ever had and I do like my cream (Texas saying) gravy. The prices were very reasonable. We also purchased a couple slices of their Strawberry Rubarb pie to eat later. Total for the meal was $35.56. Using our $30 coupon, we paid the $5.56 and left a $5 tip. A GREAT meal! My family of 5 which included myself, my husband, our 2 teenage daughters and our petite 3 year old daughter decided on going to Dixie's for breakfast since we were in the nice little town of Sumner. We looked up the menu online to get an idea of price and menu items. We saw the Dads Breakfast which stated on the menu that it "Takes three plates to serve this meal." We thought this would be great to split between the 5 of us considering our 3 year old doesn't have a huge appetite. When we arrived we were underwhelmed at the location but there are lots of great places that arent very big and located in an outdated strip mall, right? We didn't have a long wait for a table even though it was a busy Sunday morning. After we got our waters our waitress came to take our order. We told her we wanted to get The Dads Breakfast. She pretty much told us That meal can can only be shared by 2 people and if we let you all share it we might as well pay you to eat it. She was kinda snide in her tone. Ive never been to a restaurant where a meal can only shared by a certain number of people. Remember it takes 3 plates to serve this meal. We were taken back a bit because its pretty ridiculous. We needed to eat so after we discussed what else to order we ended up ordering a bowl of fruit and a biscuit and gravy and a side of scrambled eggs. My husband got his small bowl of fruit 15 minutes before the rest of our breakfast was served. After waiting 40 minutes we finally got all of our food. So here come the 3 plates that made up the Dads Breakfast. 1 large plate with 4 big pancakes, 1 plate with 4 scrambled eggs and a large portion of hashbrowns. 1 plate with 2 sausage links, 1 slice of ham and 2 pieces of bacon. This would feed more than 2 people but as per their "rules" it can't be even though they are charging 19.99 for this entire meal that takes 3 plates. My biscuit and gravy was really good. The side of scrambled eggs was luke warm, not hot. The small bowl of fruit had 1 single section of an orange, 1 grape and a few pieces honeydew and cantaloupe. Needless to say we did still all share some of the Dads Breakfast since we did buy more food to satisfy the waitress and what was she going to do, kick us out? We don't make it over to Sumner very often but if we do we won't return to Dixies and their crazy no sharing the huge portions rule. We have been to Dixie's numerous times. We use to come monthly. It's been a little bit since we came due to work. We just went today and it was horrible. Over an hour wait for our food. I got the black and blue burger the bread was awful tasted almost stale. The blue cheese was not good my hands stink like rotten blue cheese. Fries were cold. They also changed their ranch. My husband got the Mac burger . No flavor. I asked for a little pink on the burger the middle wasn't even cooked, then one half was well done. Maybe their grill isn't working right. They also changed their links for the burger. The kids pancake was good. The only good thing. The Server did apologize for the wait. Used to come here quite a bit since it's just down the street from me but hadn't been in quite a while. Ordered the hobo hash and it was different than what I used to get. Instead of the larger tasty pieces of onions, bell peppers, meat and hash browns it is now chopped down to almost being minced. Instead of tasting the different ingredients in each bite it now just blends together and tastes a bit bland. Not sure if it's a different cook in there or something the new owners implemented but it's a shame. Hopefully it goes back to how it was. read more

A small town diner with all of the staples, plus some. Dixies is a home town favorite and is always a place I am always willing to stop by when I am town. They serve the basic, so don't expect anything too crazy. I think they focus on big meals, evidenced by their six egg breakfast. I am not a big fan of places were their portion size is used as a main attraction, but the food is good enough to let it slide. I always eat the hobo hash, which is a pile of melted goodness big enough for two. Good people, good food, and as the owner said to me, "you know you will never leave hungry." read more

I can't believe I have not written a review of Dixie's yet!!! This place is just totally awesome! My family and I have NEVER left still hungry! The breakfast burrito is my all time favorite with Dad's potatoes. That said, we have not had anything bad here. Ever. They also have a wonderful - locally made - hot sauce that I ask for as an alternative to Tobasco or Cholula. My husband is an avid hot sauce kind of guy so he is equally as eager to use it when we go. The service here is always top notch - warm, friendly, and inviting. I am soo disappointed. This was probably my tenth trip to Dixie 's. The food is usually great and a good greasy spoon kinda feel to it. How ever today after waiting 45 min (1 1/2 shows on the tv, four cups of coffee for my girl and one trip to the restroom) for our food (two breakfast sandwiches); we asked Christine who is one of the owners how long it would rake to get our food. She responded very curtly that they were very busy and the kitchen is really hot. After another ten minutes we left $3 on the table for the coffee and left. They were obviously having issues with the kitchen as there were never more than two tables with food on them at a time. All the tables had people in them but there was no wait at the door. I must have a different definition of busy. This sucks because i loved this place but i will not give my money to an OWNER who can't handle a busy morning without being rude to people who are trying to support her. I am done untill i see gordon ramsay or robert irvine there. read more

I went into Dixie's and ordered two breakfasts to go and a fish and chips lunch. I sat down to wait the 20 minutes. I was told I could not sit down in the restaurent and told to sit on a chair in the hallway. I tried to put my drink on the chair adjacent to me and it almost spilled. I could not write my notes on my lap. When I got home the two breakfasts were cold and not very good. The fish was rock hard. I could not cut in with a dinner knife. I finally threw it all out. I called Dixies that day and they were closed. I called again today and explained all the problems and was told by the Manager there was nothing they could do. For a Sunday morning the wait to be seated wasn't bad but the wait for food was pretty bad. Not sure why they need to make the portions so huge (one breakfast plate with a separate plate of hash browns could easily feed a family of 4), maybe to try and keep-up with the Biscuit place up the road). If they kept the portions normal size they probably could feed people in a more timely manner. Also, the wait staff was a bit stressed and we thought a fight was going to breakout between waiters when a family moved tables. I wouldn't recommend this for a weekend breakfast. read more
