    Hot lobster roll
    Colette G.

So this has become a summer thing for me..every year, come for a hot lobster roll. I live a good distance away. It is absolutely worth the drive. This place is all about good food. Its a small, super casual dine in area of booths, and theres a few picnic tables outside. Order at counter, they bring food to you. If you read my original review..I took my own advice and had sweet potato fries. The maple dipping sauce that comes with them is amazing! But that's the supporting role, not the star. The hot lobster roll is ridiculous! Lobster so sweet, tender, and perfectly buttered. The toasted roll is comes on soaks up the butter in such a way that it holds together well. No exaggeration, I was moaning it was so good! Glad i opted to eat outside, i was alone. This place is just consistently solid. And $25 price point is more than fair. The counter gentleman not only brought me my food, but a napkin caddy as well to the picnic table outside. I really appreciated that! See you next summer DJ!

Their New England clam chowder is rich, creamy, chunks of potatoes, full of clams, and delicious. We also had their fried clams, lobster bisque and crab cakes. Service was quick and friendly and they bring the food to you after you order and pay. Cute and beachy inside with some outdoor tables on the side of the building. Would return to try other menu items.

Stopped by at around 4 PM on a Wednesday afternoon and they were actually open and taking customers! A woman was placing her order and I was waiting looking at the menu. Then I happen to glance in the back at the girl working the deep fryer, just happen to look at the exact moment that she taps the fryer spoon right up against the edge of the garbage can so it literally comes in contact with the black garbage bag. Then I see her proceed to stick the big spoon that just touched the black garbage bag back into the deep fryer and start stirring fries around. I immediately lost my appetite and walked out .

This is a favorite stop of mine whenever I'm in the hood. Their hot lobster rolls are one of the best items on the menu. Regular size is plenty but if you've got an appetite or love to share, then try the the XL and share it. It's quite a sandwich! So much meat, both claw meat and then some. The roll is all about the bread as well. It's so buttery! I also recommend the lobster bisque - this is not a heavy cream based one. It's a little on the salty side, has lobster pieces in it and it's really good. My family likes the New England style clam chowder better as that's full of ingredients. I've not had it yet but I'm sure it's delicious as well. Each time I come by, I wish I could dine in as I'm aiming to try the clams. One of these days... I've only done take out so far and it's so satisfying. This is a must try.

    Cold overstuffed Lobster Roll

We love lobster rolls & being a fan of Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives, since he recommends DJ's lobster rolls, I decided to treat my hubby for his birthday dinner. We had 2 overstuffed lobster rolls... 1 hot & 1 cold. I only posted the cold one & as you can see in the pic, it was stuffed to the hilt ! Hot was equally stuffed. They did not disappoint ! I wouldn't say they were the best we've had on LI, but if you don't mind spending that kind of money and you're in the Stony Brook area, it's definitely worth it.

What a cutsie hidden gem at the end of Nichols road, cold lobster roll was so good. Generous with the lobster, the bun was toasted perfectly in butter. It comes with a small serving of Cole slaw and that was also so good and fresh. Never knew this was here and literally 3 miles away! Will be coming back .. can't wait to try the lobster bisque.

Passed by this clam shack and since it was around lunch time we decided to take a break. Ordered the lobster roll (with fries) and the clams with jalapeños with the lovely and friendly cashier. It's a cozy place with a few tables/chairs, since it was still early we were able to find a table right away. While wanting for our food, we got to check out the shack. Didn't realize it was featured in Guy's DDD show! Cashier brought out the food to our table - the toasted bread was yummy, perfectly complemented the lobster! The jalapeños in the clams were just the right amount of heat to be eaten with the clams! Everything was cooked to perfection! We would definitely come back when in town next time!

We were looking for a seafood place to eat outside. We took a chance on DJs and we're pleasantly surprised. The Lobster Roll was delicious. So we're the clams with sweet potato fries. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate outside and they have done the best they can with their outside location. I would definitely eat here again.

Before we ate, we learned a little about the restaurant, the inspiration behind the menu, and the flavors in each dish. Fun fact: Ixchel is the Mayan Goddess, which adds even more meaning to the restaurant's name. Now, let's talk about the food! We enjoyed a tasting of several dishes, including tableside guacamole with chips and salsa, tortilla soup, handmade corn tortillas topped with different proteins, pibil (slow-roasted pork), a ceviche-style dish with shrimp and scallops, chicken mole, and sautéed shrimp with sweet potato. Every dish had its own unique flavor, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. My favorite of the night was definitely the handmade corn tortillas with the different proteins; they were so yummy! Of course, there was dessert! For dessert we had coconut flan and lemon cake, and both were the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Even though our dinner was outside, I did get a look inside the restaurant, and the interior is just as beautiful as the patio. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Growing up in New Mexico and Texas, I find it hard to find a spot on LI that helps satisfy the craving for good Mexican/TexMex. Tonight, we got a pretty good platter of food. My wife and I got a total of 8 tacos, 4 Birria tacos (2 of each), and 4 street tacos. (2 carne asada, 2 carnitas). My kids each got a quesadilla, regular and chicken bacon ranch. I tried the chicken bacon ranch and that thing was pretty serious lol. My kids could have definitely just shared one. With all of that being said, the carne asada street tacos were definitely my favorite of everything, followed by the carnitas then finally the birria tacos. The salsa verde they served in the cup was as authentic as they come, and I put that sh** on every single bite. Something about the salsa verde in the bottle just wasn't hitting the same. As my family was wrapping everything up, this nice young lady approached us and offered complimentary churros for the kids! Super nice of them. This experience was definitely a 9/10 for me. I would probably just skip the birria tacos next time, personally.

Our waitress came to take our food order and we said to her we never got our drinks. She looked confused and went to check, we had only asked for 2 beers and 2 waters. She came back over with the the beers and a margarita. She said that there was a problem with the paper for the tickets and ours got lost and she gave a a watermelon margarita to make up for it. It was a very nice gesture. I'm not a fan of mixing drinks but I thought that was very nice. Our waitress was great in helping me narrow down which tacos to get. Appetizer was very good as well as the food. Each taco was deliciously prepared and we love the side of plantains!! My only other complaint was that our table was way too small for our plates, drinks and the decor on the table. I was sitting with my food practically in my lap because of all the stuff.
