I walked a long distance today in the sweltering heat to order one of your delicious chicken sandwiches only to see the note on your door at 4:50pm saying you were closing early. These donuts are to die for! I made a special trip downtown just for some of these donuts-it was my birthday so I HAD to teat myself. Walk right by Stan's and go straight to Do-Rite Donuts instead! This location is right near Northwestern Memorial Hospital and what a great location it is. It's a small spot and there was a line when I walked in but it moved very quick and I happily chose my half dozen. It took everything inside me to not eat all of them on my way home. Each donut, yeast (raised) and cake, were soft and filled with flavor! Something I appreciated about Do-Rite is that they have classic flavors and then only a few have a twist (i.e. maple bacon). My favorite was the chocolate frosted and my second favorite was the maple bacon, the salty and sweet combination was delightful. We arrived early on a Sunday and this was our first stop! We ordered the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with donuts instead of buns online. Unfortunately, they ran out of the glazed donuts and used an old fashioned donut for one of the Chicken Sandwiches. The Chicken was fried to perfection with the perfect amount of spicy, it is definitely better with a regular glazed donut. It can get messy though, so make sure you get lots of napkins! This was our first time having Do-Rite Donuts and heard they were good, so we were excited to try them on this visit. We were making a comparison between Do-Rite and Stan's, since they were both recommended, and had one donut from each place this morning. They were right down the street from each other so it wasn't difficult to do. The store was very small and felt cramped when we walked inside. We had a tough time getting to the counter and it was obvious we wouldn't get a seat. The lady at the counter who helped us was so great and friendly! I noticed some interesting donut options to include a maple and bacon, pistachio Meyer lemon glaze, and blueberry crumb cake. They had gluten-free donut options as well!! A sign said that coffee was $1 with a donut, so that is what we did. We had to sit outside in the cold because there were no seats inside :( The coffee was good and the donuts were just okay. I really enjoyed the dark chocolate donut, but the maple and bacon wasn't so great. The glazed was also pretty standard. I can see the appeal for those who have this as their local spot, but I prefer Stan's on this visit and comparison. I thought it was impossible to beat Firecakes in Chicago. I was wrong. The donuts here are absolutely the best you can get anywhere. They're precisely to my liking: firm and crispy outside and soft inside (none of that "airy" BS). Given the heavenly quality of the Do-Rite donuts I'm glad to have paid 16.67 for a half dozen assortment box. I sampled 5 kinds. They're all my favorites, but the Blueberry Crumb is exceptional. It's filled with pockets of blueberry jam and dusted with amazing cake powder. Seriously, it's better than most cakes. The Old Fashioned (Buttermilk and Chocolate) is trusty as usual and really, really delicious. The Valrhona Chocolate Cake has a ton of chocolate on top and would be ideal for chocolate loves (I'm not). Pistachio-Meyer Lemon was my least favorite just because it didn't really have any statement (i.e., comparatively bland). But mind you, still great. I'm so blown away that I have zero reservation for my 5-star rating. Take my stars already. read more

The one downside to the restaurant is it is a tiny storefront, so maneuvering around to check out and pick up your order from the kitchen is a bit of a squeeze. Donuts are good here. I have gone at different times of the day and the donuts seem to always be fresh. I like how they make the chocolate raised donut. They take a regular glazed donut and then put the chocolate icing on top. Not all donut shops will do that. And Do-Rites donuts aren't super sugary in taste, think Krispy Kreme. The service has been consistently friendly. This place does get crowded during lunch time but not necessarily for the donuts but for the chicken. I'll update my review after I've tried their lunch. This place is great. It's outside one of Northwestern's medical buildings so it is super easy and convenient for students/nurses/doctors/whoever to step out and grab a quality chicken sandwich. I ordered a donut on the side - Chocolate glazed donut for $2.95 (or around that cost - typically donuts range from $1.50 - $3.50) for dessert. I must note that this time around I went to Do-Rite at around 3 pm and they had maybe 4 or 5 selections of donuts left. One lady literally walked in and asked if they had any more donuts coming out and the employee was like nah, so she walked out and said she'd be back in the morning. So that's just how the vibe of this place goes. Overall, both times I've come here I've been very satisfied. It's in a perfect location for my needs and very easy to get to for people wanting to try it :) The prices are very reasonable and I highly recommend all to try it if y'all need a good chicken and donut fix! read more
