This place is great. It's outside one of Northwestern's medical buildings so it is super easy and convenient for students/nurses/doctors/whoever to step out and grab a quality chicken sandwich. Before moving to Chicago myself, I've visited as a tourist in the morning to try the chicken and I've never been disappointed! During this trip, I've gone ahead and tried their original chicken sandwich going for $4.99. It's a juicy chicken strip burger and it was so filling. For those who like things a little spicy, you could easily make the chicken spicy for an additional 35 cents. I ordered a donut on the side - Chocolate glazed donut for $2.95 (or around that cost - typically donuts range from $1.50 - $3.50) for dessert. I must note that this time around I went to Do-Rite at around 3 pm and they had maybe 4 or 5 selections of donuts left. One lady literally walked in and asked if they had any more donuts coming out and the employee was like nah, so she walked out and said she'd be back in the morning. So that's just how the vibe of this place goes. Overall, both times I've come here I've been very satisfied. Stopped by Do-Rite this morning to grab some breakfast before a day of sightseeing. The line was out the door but loved very quickly! I grabbed a large Iced Havana Latte, the Vera Cruz sandwich, and the Lemon Pistachio donut. All were delicious! The one downside to the restaurant is it is a tiny storefront, so maneuvering around to check out and pick up your order from the kitchen is a bit of a squeeze. If possible, have one person wait inside for your order and find a spot at the tables outside to enjoy your breakfast. read more

Do-Rite knows how to do a good donut. Traditionally, I have been a fan of Stans and the large selection offered. I decided to branch out and try something different, and Do-Rite's did not disappoint. They pride themselves on small-batch donuts, and although they do not have as many Stans, they are fantastic. I never got there early enough to try the cheese danish, which is always sold out, but the cinnamon crunch and blueberry crumble were amazing. Did I experience the best Donut I have ever had.... Yes, yes I did. Will I go rushing back.... No. My wife and I recently stayed downtown and Do-Rite Donuts was right next to our hotel. It was the once place we told ourselves we HAD to try (we love donuts). Without doing much research, we were a little shocked to see how small it was. My Wife went in to order the Donuts as I am not great with Crammed spaces with strangers. She ordered a half dozen which was over $20 after taxes. Given that its sort of a novelty that price is high but not unreasonable for an occasional purchase. The donuts we got were as follows (with my personal opinion of each flavor) Pistachio-Meyer Lemon: Good, not great. Ours lacked a desired Lemon Umph. Cinnamon Crunch: This one really disappointed me. I wanted to love this but it really fell flat for me. Cheese Danish: Again, good but not great. Sprinkles: This was solid but no better than anything from anywhere else. Valrhona Chocolate Cake: We both loved this. Great donut. Blueberry Crumb: Uh welcome to the thunderdome! This was the easily the best donut I have ever had! Do-Rite Donuts are hands down the best gluten free donuts in Chicago. And they have not one, not two, but THREE flavors available every day. (Cinnamon sugar, birthday cake, and chocolate glazed-- all amazing.) And their GF donuts still taste like fluffy, slightly crispy donuts, not like cake, which is what can tend to happen when a shop offers a gluten free option. I have gone a few times near closing and they still had at least one or two flavors available, so they keep making them throughout the day! I once called ahead about 20 min before the shop closed to check and see if there were any left. Tenders were juicy and tasted yummy! The ranch tasted homemade for some reason. Something about it is really good. Haha. The only thing I wish the tenders were is more crunchy. Other then that, tastes good and comes with plain bread. French fries -- tastes homemade!! Perfect size. Nice crunch. Had the right amount of salt. I shared fries with my husband and I wish I didn't!! Haha. Donuts: First, I tried the Blueberry Crumbcake. It tastes good, but unfortunately was too sweet for me. Thick sliced tilla mook Cheddar, crispy bacon, and ranch mayo all on a soft warm brioche bun. We don't know about you but they had us at ranch mayo. Although the chicken wasn't hot enough to melt the cheese for this picture, a simple request to heat it up did the trick. For $6.50 this is a tremendous value for how good it is. Pair it with one of their delicious donuts and you'll see why this place is so popular. Pro tip: if you're a dunker ask for extra ranch mayo and dunk that baby. This is a tiny little place and when it's cold, there are only counter seats inside (maybe 10-12 of them). The chicken was cooked perfectly and was juicy and crisp. My son got his chicken sandwich with the optional donut as a bun. That was a little too much for him, so he didn't really enjoy it. I got the original chicken sandwich with their special sauce which is sort of Big Mac special sauce-ish less the relish. I guess like a remoulade. That was really yummy. Had to try this place only a few blocks off of the Magnificent Mile right across from the hospital. There is some bench and table seating in front, and a small counter area on the inside. We tried the bacon maple donut and it had three very large pieces of bacon on a perfectly glazed oversized donut. We really liked the savory contrast to the sweet maple sensation. We also ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich and upgraded to the spicy chicken. Very nice and flavorful with pickle, mayo, lettuce and bread and butter pickles. I have been to the original Do-Rite on Randolph and have enjoyed the fantastic donuts from there. Finally I had the chance last weekend to try out the newer Do-Rite on Erie about a block and a half east of Michigan Avenue. Although this Do-Rite in Streeterville is larger than the tiny original location, it is not exactly huge either. There is actually some seating inside on these red plastic stools and you can eat at a couple of countertops. There is an outdoor patio, and a couple of hardy folk were sitting outside on this coolish winter afternoon (I chose the semi-comforts of the indoor counter space to eat). I am sure the donuts are delicious here too, but I went with the Original Fried Chicken Sandwich. The chicken is fried fresh as I waited a few minutes for my order to arrive (a lady in front of me ordered three chicken sandwiches, possibly adding to my wait time). My chicken sandwich was worth the not-too-long wait. The piece of fried chicken is definitely not a perfectly round and shaped piece of Franken-meat, but a juicy and crispy piece of chicken with an oblong shape of varying width and thickness. Totally had this bookmarked for their fried chicken & donuts as well. Couldn't make it out til the last day, and it had to be before our flights, so no fried chicken ready in the morning. However, we did get a maple bacon and a pistachio donut to share. We decided to share a maple bacon donut as a breakfast appetizer. It was a candied maple bacon donut, french cruller style donut dipped in maple glaze and covered in candied bacon. We liked how it was super light, yet still held up well, and the salty and sweet combo was delectable. We ended up eating the pistachio meyer lemon donut while waiting to get picked up at SFO. It was more traditional (as in cakey). It had a meyer lemon glazed with toasted pistachios. We both thought it was good, but the bacon was our favorite. I think the pistachios should have been cut up a little finer as well. Wasn't too lemony either. We enjoyed both donuts though and was a nice treat for us as we usually don't indulge in donuts and tend to stick with the normal flavored ones. I never thought I would enjoy spicy chicken INSIDE A GLAZED DONUT, but I loved it. I'm crying again but from my mouth because I'm drooling. So, I got a half dozen of donuts. For the amount of hype surrounding Do-Rite... The two-star Yelp tag-line really sums up my feelings: "Meh. I've experienced better." To be completely fair though, I've never been a hard-core doughnut fan so I'll give Do-rite the benefit of the doubt, partially for the friendly service (even during peak morning hours) and how clean the bathrooms were (at least in the morning). Although, no toilet seat covers? Come on. I tried the Candied Maple Bacon Cruller, Pistachio-Meyer Lemon Glazed Donut, and Nutella Stuffed Coffee Glazed Donut. The Maple Bacon was my favorite, but both the other two just kind of fell flat. I also sampled a bit of the Spicy 31st Fried Chicken sandwich. (Note that any chicken sandwich can be made spicy.) These sandwiches are not made to look pretty for Instagram. The chicken had a nice crunch, but my boyfriend made the mistake of globbing a huge dose of Dave's Ghost Pepper sauce on top - so 1.5 seconds into my chewing action I was more concerned with dousing my taste buds than distinguishing any flavors. You've been warned. For the less adventurous, there's a few other hot sauces near the soda station on a shelf to experiment with. Lots of people working in the surrounding area seem to make morning doughnut runs here for their office. The boxes are a lot thinner and more wieldy (plus more flavor-insulating due to the cardboard dividers between each doughnut) than most.
