About two months after the purchase, I began hearing a noise coming from the engine. I brought the car in for inspection and was told there was a loose screw inside the engine, which was causing the noise. I was charged $295 for that repair. Recently, I received a recall notice for the airbags and brought my car to the dealership for the recall service. My vehicle stayed at the dealership for three days, and unfortunately, no loaner vehicle was provided. When I picked up my car, I immediately noticed something was wrong. The car was not cleaned after the work, there was a warning message on the screen, and the engine light was on. I called the dealership and scheduled to bring the car back the following Wednesday. I dropped it off Wednesday morning and picked it up late Thursday, and I was charged another $295. I am very upset because these issues started shortly after I purchased the vehicle, and I also paid $5,000 for an extended warranty. I explained to them that this was not my fault and asked why I had to pay for it. I spoke with the service manager, the finance manager, and the sales manager, but no one helped resolve the issue. They told me they would call me back, but no one ever did. When I called back the next day, I spoke with Bao, who said he would take care of it, but nothing was done. This experience has been extremely disappointing. When you are purchasing a car, they treat you very well, but once there is a problem, it feels like they do not care about their customers. The lack of communication and poor customer service makes this experience feel very unfair and unprofessional.

I'm likely an atypical customer as I knew exactly the car I wanted, I don't have a trade-in vehicle, nor was I financing. Therefore the whole process was as simple as car buying can be (outside of Tesla). So take my experience with a grain of salt: there weren't as much moving pieces for things to go awry. Capitol Mazda had a fairly lightly used RF that was in a color combination I liked, so decided to check it out. I initially went there to just look and was shown the car, but specifically didn't want to take up the sales person's (Andrew) time with a test drive as I was just mulling things over. No pressure or pushing, just allowed me to get inside, open up the roof, get a feel for the car. Short interaction, but I got what I came there for. There were a couple of rock chips and stuff, so at that point I was thinking of buying new instead. After looking at the new color combinations and how much I could save buying used, I reconsidered the car I looked at, but it wasn't clear if it was a Certified Pre-Owned (as listed on the Mazda USA site) or not (wasn't listed as CPO on Capitol Mazda's own site). So I called in, talked to Chris Hampton, who assured me it was a CPO, so we made an appointment for the next day. Turned out Chris was given the day off, so I met Samuel Molina instead and he took me on a test drive and when I inquired if there was any flexibility on price, he said if I was serious about buying that day, he could run some numbers. I was serious, so we went inside. I know (roughly) how car dealers make extra margin, so it wasn't surprising that the original quote/offer had $7K in extra maintenance/service plans and extra things (theft deterrent stuff). I really don't begrudge them adding this stuff in the initial offer, even if it didn't make sense for me. There was no real push back on my saying I didn't want those things. I had kind of dreaded the whole car buying experience, but it wasn't bad at all. Yes, we had to go through some iterations to negotiate on price, but I had my acceptable number and had studied the KBB/Edmunds used pricing guidance, and their initial "sticker" price was reasonable even if on the high end of the range, but it's the Bay Area, so being on the high end of ranges is not unusual. But they showed some flexibility to ultimately get to a price we were both comfortable with. Not unpleasant at all. Once we agreed upon the price, I worked with Oscar Delgado on the finance/sales paperwork. He was efficient, friendly, and was happy to explain anything I had questions on. So I got the car that day, and Chris followed up the next day to congratulate me on getting the car. There turned out to be some issues (details not terribly relevant) related to CPO compliance, but Chris was my contact and advocate to push to get things taken care of on his side. It wasn't a sales issue really, but he took responsibility to get it taken care of internally. There wasn't any pushback on there being an issue, or any indication that Capitol Mazda didn't want to address it. It did take some time to resolve, and there was some back and forth about the sequence of some things that led to one heated discussion (I was heated, to Chris' credit he stayed calm). I understand the how/why of why it happened that way. But the main thing and bottom line is it was fully resolved and I'm happy with the end result. So on the issues that matter: - sales experience and professionalism from all members of sales staff during the buying process - attitude and receptiveness when an issue is brought up by the customer and corrective action is requested - the end result of whether things get fully resolved On all these counts, Capitol Mazda did well by me and I can say I'm happy with the overall experience and would buy another car there in the future. All the people I dealt with were pleasant to deal with, and special shout out to Chris Hampton for being a positive, calm, professional advocate on my behalf when I needed someone at the dealership to help me navigate an issue.

About a month after the service, my transmission started slipping and eventually the truck stalled on the road. When I brought it back, I was told the transmission needed to be completely replaced for $12,000. They then "offered" to do it for $9,000 because the previous service had been done recently. That alone raised serious concerns. I found a reputable local shop that quoted $6,000 for the same job and arranged to have my truck towed there. I was told I didn't need to be present since it was simply being transported to another shop. Unbelievably, the dealership released the WRONG truck to the tow company. After a long back-and-forth, the dealership claimed it was not their fault. A tow truck driver does not just pick a random vehicle off a lot -- the dealership controls vehicle release. They eventually said they would reimburse the towing fee once I had it towed again. Four months later, I have received nothing. Someone please teach them accountability at least. Do yourself a favor. Take your car somewhere else.

He also found some mechanics to do the job for really cheap. Dealer quoted $10,000 to replace all the parts and with Hooshi's help i got it all done less than $1,800 total with labor for OEM PARTS. Hooshi explained to me that toyota get the same exact parts from china and put toyota stamp on it and sell it for 10 times more. If you want someone that really cares for you, check out American imports. I talked to the other gentleman that's behind the counter and he was super nice guy too. Highly recommend this place for most auto parts.

For three straight days, I called the dealership over 15 times. I called the main service number and even tried calling several service advisors directly. I couldn't get through to a single service advisor. Every time I spoke with the front desk, I was told my information would be passed along and that someone would call me back. That never happened. After getting nowhere, I finally had to take time out of my own day and drive to the dealership just to talk to someone face-to-face. That's when I met Devin. I do appreciate him taking the time to speak with me and getting my vehicle scheduled. During our conversation, Devin explained that their phone system had been having issues. I understand that technical problems happen, but as a customer, that's hard to accept. If the phone system isn't working, there should be another way to make sure customers are taken care of. A dealership shouldn't have customers calling for days, leaving messages, and never getting a callback, especially when their vehicle has left them stranded. This also isn't the first issue I've had after getting my vehicle serviced here. My service history shows I've had multiple concerns over time, and it's gotten to the point where it's difficult to trust the service department. To make things even more frustrating, I was told that if my vehicle needs to stay for diagnosis, I'd have to pay out of pocket for a rental until Hyundai decides whether the repair is covered under warranty. I understand that's their policy, but when your only car suddenly dies without warning, it's hard not to feel like you're being left to deal with everything on your own. I'm not upset because cars break. Things happen. What I'm disappointed in is the lack of communication and customer service. I shouldn't have to make more than 15 phone calls over three days, never receive a callback, and then physically drive to the dealership just to get someone to help me.
