Terrible service. We waited 45 minutes after putting our name on the list and requesting a seat at the upstairs portion of the restaurant due to limited mobility of two members in our party. When they called us to the booth to check in, they said "let's go downstairs" to which my party asked how many stairs and specified our members couldn't all go down the stairs to which the shitty, snippy, young, blond, MORONIC, ABLEIST hostess said "heh, it's only 13 stairs". Then said, well we can't accommodate you on the patio either due to a large party. The patio was completely empty. We were here from out of town and came based on recommendation from others. We will NEVER be back, and this is a terrible ableist establishment who fails to comply with ADA regulations and should be shut down immediately. Not to mention the in house HR training that needs to be completed long before now, as their hostess and podium staff clearly don't give a shit about the incoming lawsuits they generate. read more

The Dobbin House is situated in downtown Gettysburg a stone building that was built in 1776. If you are looking for a historical vibe this is the place for you. The interior is set in antique rooms and lit by candlelight the service staff are in colonial costume. The food was good. The service was very good. I had the prime rib and sweet potato, which was prepared well. My father had the veal which he really loved. The tables are close to one another so you will be cozy with your neighbors. We were thrilled to get a table in the dining room without a reservation on our first visit, assuming we'd be seated in the tavern side. The hostess gave us a brief history as we walked through, which made the experience feel so special--very reminiscent of a Williamsburg tavern. We were tucked into a canopied corner table near the kitchen door. The table was a little tight--I had about 10 inches between the corner of the table and the bench to squeeze through. I assume the staff needs to be mindful of who they seat where, but it didn't affect our experience. Our server, Morgan, was excellent and made the evening even better. Truly an authentic Gettysburg experience! We made reservations upstairs but arrived early due to the weather and asked to be seated downstairs instead. I wanted to give my wife a memorable evening in Gettysburg so I made reservations at the Dobbin House. The service was great and the menu was diverse. We both ordered cocktails which were generous pours. I ordered the hunter chicken and she ordered the duck. Meals come with your choice of a starch and salad. My chicken was fine, her duck was over cooked. The seating is tight and the restaurant was crowded with both locals and tourists. We thought the ambiance would be more elegant, but patrons wore shorts and laid-back attire. I think the Dobbin House is definitely worth consideration if you are in Gettysburg. But, there is a reason for the word Tavern in the name. Set your expectations accordingly and you will enjoy your visit. read more

Really cool old time feel. The entire house was open to walk around and check out the historic house. Service was good, pretty quick. The king's onion soup was amazing. I got the roast beef on focaccia and it was ok. Nothing to write home about. The bread was more like a ciabatta with one tiny speck of rosemary. The pros: This historical location has such a great character! You can tour the house while waiting for a table. Keep in mind this house was built in 1776, so things like doorways were much smaller. The staff were all friendly and a few made sure to point out some details as we walked by. The tavern downstairs was intimate and took you back in time. The candlelight was a nice touch. The cons: Food was just ok. You're paying for the experience, my beef sandwich could have used some horseradish Mayo. Same with my husbands sandwich, it was fairly bland. The onion soup was delicious though. We were stuffed like sardines in the basement, there isn't much room. Very quaint restaurant built in 1776. There is an upstairs dining room and a tavern below grade. The walls are stone with stone fireplaces and the bar is authentic colonial craftsmanship. The servers and bartenders all dress in colonial period dress. The food is great and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We were there for lunch twice during our stay. Tonight's dinner was a short wait for a bar seat, going solo after a trip to American Experience WW2 Museum in Gettysburg. Started off with the Baked French Onion soup as always, it's a must when you visit Gettysburg to try the Dobbins Onion soup. Top notch as always, piping hot, loaded with flavor and delicious melted cheese! Then onto the main course, which is usually The Mason's Mile high, however with the increase in prices this sandwich has topped out for me at $17.00. I love the sandwich but that price is hard to justify, so I chose the Springhouse Spread. Fresh greens with walnuts, smoked turkey, apples, cranberries, herb dressing on the side with bleu cheese crumbles and homemade sweet bread with cream cheese. Everything was served up in good order and the bar maid was super nice and very friendly. The bar atmosphere was lively and busy but I never felt rushed or cramped and enjoyed sitting at the bar for my meal. read more

Obviously, the ambience is unrivaled, a 200-year-old building who can compete with that! Everything was kept original and made to feel and look as historical as possible, from the architecture, to the seating, all the way down to the waitresses attire. Very well done. As for the food, it seemed a little pricey, so I cheated out and got the cheapest thing on the menu that was not a sandwich, the spit roasted chicken, which turned out to be some of the best chicken I've ever had. If it wasn't for the perfectly cooked crispy well seasoned skin. It may have just fell apart on my plate. It was so tender. The salad was delicious, along with the homemade blue cheese dressing. As for the drinks, there was a very limited draft selection, but thankfully, I really enjoyed one of the four that they had. No reservations accepted. When we arrived around noon there was a 45 minute wait. We gave a name and received one of those vibrating, light up devices that is activated when your seats are ready. We were asked if bar seating was OK and we happily agreed. While we waited we perused the gift shop and bought a couple of items for ourselves. Step next door to see the Underground Railroad hiding place can also be done while you wait. With still some time left once done with those activities, we went into the dining room, not used during lunch service and admired the holiday décor and fire burning in the large stone fireplace. We were seated at the bar and our bartender was very pleasant and had a sharp sense of humor. She's been working here for decades and really knows her stuff. Seems much of the staff are long time employees. Sounds like the owners are good to work with. We had reviewed the menu's while we waited, but there were some additional specials available at the bar and I ordered the Barkeepers special while my hubby got a burger. When I ordered a red wine to pair with my meal, the bartender made a recommendation that was 'the next up' from the 'house' wine and it was an excellent accompaniment. The food took a reasonable amount of time to come out of the kitchen. Not too quickly, not overly long. My meal was a lot of food. A side salad is included, as well as a dinner roll and butter. I chose the house herb blend vinaigrette dressing on my salad. Being a lover of most breads, I ate that, as well as my salad and by the time my meal arrived, I was already feeling full. I focused on the meat, which was tender and mostly lean with only a couple of fatty pieces. I now many folks love those fatty pieces, so take that information as you will. The burger was absolutely huge. Hubby 'smashed' it down to fit in his mouth and he actually couldn't finish it all. He did try, so it must have been good. The atmosphere down here is very much that of a colonial pub. Lighting is low, lots of wood, decorated for the holidays. Not exactly 'romantic' but it does have ambiance. Staff are dressed in period fashion which adds to the feel of stepping back in time. Although thankfully, they do have indoor plumbing. I'm very glad we were able to make this a stop on our recent visit to the area. If you have the time and are interested in historic buildings, I do recommend you give this spot a try. read more
