I've gone twice. The wait staff was overly friendly to the point of patronizing- I knowe some people like that type of atmosphere, but personally I just wanted to eat, not gain a new best friend. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich that did not include cheese or mayo in the description, but came slathered in something goey and white. He said he thought it was mayo or cheese or some kind of sauce but wasn't quite sure... uh oh I showed up a little late and orded after he did- just a side of rice and beans and was told it would take "at least 45 minutes, probably longer." Really? I will give them that they were busy, but that still seems a little excessive to me.. I decided to just get a drink instead and the margarita was mainly ice with maybe 1/2 a cup of weak, sugary booze spashed on top.. Ok, second visit. I never would've gone again, but we were treated to sunday brunch by the fam. When we ordered, the waitress let us know that they were not doing any type of special orders because they were so busy. No problem. I selected one of the options and ordered it sans meat (the meat was listed as optional on the menu). I checked the first couple bites and then slathered it in hot sauce. I guess i should've looked better, because halfway through I realized that it had meat in it. We alerted the waitress to the mistake and she apologized but was brusque about it, and did not offer to replace my meal or remove it from the check. Ugh. Not sure what type of meat it was (chirizo maybe?) but I tasted that greasy nast all day, even after washing my mouth out with soap. Had reservations for brunch, again put in a corner, what is it with these restaurants and 60 year old women??? My hash was cold, service was really bad, said they didn't have a bus boy, well, if the American Indian's didn't get Federal Government money or welfare, maybe they would be more willing to show up for work. Another lady was sat beside us, she owned a art Gallery , couldn't get service either. She said it was a problem in Taos . I was so looking forward to having good food and service in Taos, heard they had great restaurants. What a sad disappointment. Go to Santa Fe., the food and service there was great in every place we ate. Try the restaurants that are Spanish and have Tapas, great food and service. read more

I was starving and had to stop for a really early dinner. We were the only ones there at the time so the service was great. I had a margarita which was pretty tasty. I ordered the green chili and it was delicious!!! There were pieces of pork in and it was just the right amount of spice for me. It is also served with a tortilla type bread, sour cream, tomatos, and cheese all on the side. It was perfect for a dinner and was surprisingly satisfying. I also tried the chicken enchiladas with the green sauce and it was really delicious. The green sauce is the best! For 3 of us- 3 dinners 1-2 drinks each the bill was only 80$ bucks. Great quality with nice atmosphere. The food was above average also. Kinda spendy for a small town place.

The food was excellent ,the beer was very good and the prices are normal for that kind of place. I recommend the snake sausage. The steaks were excellent too. I love the reception of the hotel that is attached and they have events most nights. You can hear the music from there while you are eating. read more

I have stayed at the Taos Inn a couple few times while visiting Taos and Doc Martin's is always great! I have only dined for dinner once, but have had drinks and appetizers on multiple occasions. I ordered a great sea scallop special on my last visit for dinner and was impressed to say the least. But I usually find myself at Doc's in the morning ordering a bloody marry! read more

Classic Taos meeting place for grub with friends.

The setting is fabulous - the very same building Doc Martin held his practice some 150 years ago - and that is my fondest memory of the experience. The food is alright and a little pricey for what actually is, once you strip away the ambiance and hype. We had the chile rellenos (recommend) and a ginormous plate of chicken breasts with red and green chile (don't recommend). The service was benign though a little "out there" in a tripped out kind of way that makes you chuckle and wonder what they're adding to their water supply. But back to the food.... Surely Taos has tastier dining options and I intend to find them the next time I come through! read more

We had gotten a recommendation from a local to try this - and it was quite tasty. We came towards the end of the lunch hour and chose to sit in the patio, the restaurant is a bit dark and it was so nice and quite in the back patio. I was craving breakfast and had a delicious huevos rancheros while my husband tried the enchiladas - both were very good. I had them do a 50/50 split on the green/red sauce - always good to try them both - I kinda liked the green a bit better. The blue corn enchiladas were delicious also. Nice service, overall it was a good solid place to eat - nothing knocked it out of the park, but we would try it again. read more

We have come here numerous times as we usually stay at the Taos Inn while we're in Taos. The food is really overpriced when there are so many other great restaurants in Taos. They used to have papas y chile, which was delicious and worth the price, but it's no longer on their breakfast/brunch menu. We still love the hotel, but the restaurant has been extremely hit or miss. read more

Please hire a better hostess!!! The one there now is unfriendly, disorganized and borderline rude! We checked in and were told it would be just a few minutes. 2 parties checked in after us but were sat before us. (One was the same size and they definitely did not return, read on!) When we reapproached the hostess, she said it would be about 10 minutes. I pointed out that we had entered before the other parties, and with a frown, she said she could sit us on the back patio. As we walked through the restaurant, it was about 3/4 empty! When we arrived at the patio only 2 of 9 tables were full. So why the wait?! We waited patiently, for our server, (I'm not sure the hostess told her she had sat us, based on her look of surprise), an older couple was sat. They asked to sit at a different table in the shade (3 were empty) and the hostess told them no. Another couple asked to be seated and were told there was a 20 minute wait, (still 5 empty tables). They asked if they could wait on the back patio with their dog, as it is the dog-friendly area. They were also told no by the hostess. Service in general was slow, which seemed odd as there were 3 different servers for the patio. All that being said, the huevos rancheros were good. My mom's eggs benedict were tasty, although over cooked. All in all, a 3 for food and a 1 for service. read more

Been eating here for years... I inly come into town about twice a year. The quality of the food went down a few years ago... but now, its pathetic. Flacid. When I recently ate here (always one of my "never miss" places in Taos), and complained about the change in the red chile, my review earned a response from the restaurant saying that the recipe had changed in order to make it gluten-free​. Shocked and having a few weeks to mull over this response, I got curious about just how prevalent celiac disease might be. Through Professor Google I found: "A recently published study in the journal Digestion found that 86 percent of individuals who believed they were gluten sensitive could tolerate it. Individuals with celiac disease, a hereditary autoimmune condition that affects about 3 million Americans, or roughly 1 percent of the population, must avoid gluten.Jun 11, 2015." So, we the 99% are sacrificing taste for the 1%. Suggestion: go back to the original recipe and put an asterisk on the menu indicating a GF alternative is available upon request. Sheesh!! read more

Great margaritas and live music - tip, the margaritas in the restaurant are better than in the bar. We had the shrimp enchiladas and smothered burrito. Both were excellent. The back patio is also a great place to experience the beautiful evenings without the traffic noise on main street. read more

We were greeted by a young hostess that really didn't seem to be much of a people person. She tried to seat me & my girlfriend at a very small table in the sun. When we asked for another table she was visibly upset, rolling her eyes at us. We were the only people in the place at 6pm, that should have told us something. Another couple came in and she tried to seat them at the same table and they asked for another table also, same reaction from the "hostess". I asked our waitress what beer was on tap, she didn't know but she checked for me. They had 4 choices. A parking lot attendant recommended the chili rellenos and the waitress confirmed that was their signature dish so we both ordered them. The food was uninspired and below average, mine was not very hot. The food came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered it, must have been made ahead. I finished my beer halfway through my dinner and could have had another but my waitress never came by to see if I would like another so my glass just sat empty. That was probably good because 2 chili relleno dinners, 1 beer & 1 house margarita came to $67. Really? 2 antacids later I felt OK. read more

Nice restaurant set in a historic home of Dr. Martin (go figure). The atmosphere was nice for a couple (where I was seated). The prices were very reasonable and my guest and I were both very pleased with the entree selection and prices. I will definitely go back. It may be a challenge to go with a large party (10ish) because of the layout (I would recommend calling ahead for that situation anyway). read more

We stopped in at this restaurant for late night drinks while visiting Taos. We were lucky enough to be seated on the outdoor patio. The service was a bit slow because there was only one waitress on duty. The atmosphere was fun and there was a live band playing. We came to this restaurant with high hopes. We heard they had great margs, but we were really disappointed. Although the atmosphere was cute, it didn't make up for everything else. The margaritas were really pricey but not worth it!! The service was awful. We waited for 10 minutes for anyone to even speak to us, then another 10 just to get our drinks. Our waitress was not very nice, short with us when we asked to substitute items for something gluten free. Did not check with us after food was delivered. My Kit Carson was great except that the eggs were cooked hard when I asked for soft. Other staff members were really nice. We've been here years ago and stayed in the Inn and had much better experience then. We enjoyed it so much that we made a special effort to go by for breakfast yesterday on our way back to Texas. Where to begin. Food was good. Service was one of the worst experiences ever. We ordered cornbread, two salads and an entree to share. She brought out one salad and the entree at the same time . When we asked about the rest of the food and share plates she said she said very rudely that she only had two hands. At that point we should have reminded her that salads and bread usually come before the entree. When we asked about dessert she said the kitchen was closed and we were lucky we were served since we were seated so late. We reminded her that we had an 8:30 reservation and we were on time for that reservation which resulted in a comment I don't make the rules it is the kitchen. We talked to the manager who seemed earnest but made no effort to make it right. I don't usually complain but I manage many people and I thought a suggestion that the waitress needed training would be useful. I hope he takes it as constructive feedback and offers training during these difficult times. read more

We asked about everyone else's food and the waitress was dismissive. Then she took the one plate back, everyone else's food came and it was another 15 minutes before the first plate came back. We had a very enjoyable dinner at Doc Martin's. We actually ate outside on a very pleasant fall evening and didn't go into the main restaurant. It was a very nice alfresco meal. We got a Caesar salad with bacon. It was very good and had plenty of bacon. I had the Caprese salad. I would have liked more tomatoes but the basil vinaigrette was really good. For the entrees we ordered the chile rellenos and the blue corn chicken enchiladas. The rellenos were delicious with a really crispy breading and toasted pepitas on top. The enchiladas were fine, but could have been more flavorful and really had too much chicken. I would have preferred more green chile sauce, tomato, and spice and less meat. Overall though, we would both eat there again. I'd just order the chile relleno too! read more

This was our first night out in Taos. It was a busy night and we didn't have reservations, so we waited about 40 minutes for a table. We enjoyed a couple of margaritas (decent) and live music, so the time went by quickly. While we were waiting in the bar area, we sat down at an empty bar table. A waitress stopped by to see if we needed anything, but we had just gotten our drinks and didn't order anything. A few minutes later, I saw that same waitress chewing out a manager about her section. That sure didn't make us feel welcome. So we got up and moved to another area. Our dinner waitress was very sweet and helpful. The menu was a bit too fancy for me and my 2 kids, definitely more of a grown up thing. Although my daughter ordered the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage and she loved it! Food was well prepared, as you would expect at these prices. read more
