Starting with the good, the ribs were good. I was worried when my knife had trouble separating ribs at first, but they turned out to be tender and slid off the bone. Good flavors from the rub, but was a heavy saucing obscured the flavors. That's about where the good stuff ends. None of the sides I ordered were very good. The potato salad was the best of them, but needed some salt and maybe a little bit of acid. The cornbread had good jalapeño flavor, but was dried out. The mac & cheese was surprisingly bland. The ambience here is casual, converted warehouse feel (in fact they have a cidery on property). They host bands during the week so could be a fun place to hang out. One bathroom had urinals and a toilet and the other had just toilets. No women's only. So there was a chance of going to the bathroom next to a guy. We were very disappointed in our food from Shakedown Street BBQ. I did not know this place was new or perhaps I might not have gone, seems like they have some kinks to iron out. Luckily the shining star of the meal was the meats and sauce. The sides were the real issue. My partner got the 2 mains and 2 sides meal. He got the brisket and pulled pork as his meats and mac & cheese and one of the salads as his sides. I had the half chicken with mac & cheese and red cabbage slaw. He got the classic BBQ while I got the golden and both were delicious. The meats were also good. Half chicken could've had a bit more flavor but was moist. Mac and cheese was a joke. It was buttered noodles with shredded cheese on it. I always assume BBQ/southern type restaurants will have the best mac and cheese so I was extremely let down by this restaurants offering. Do not order this. I would have preferred Kraft. If this restaurant should focus on changing ONE thing it should be the mac and cheese. My partner's salad was good but was missing dressing? The slaw was decent. Simple. Cornbread was good, contained jalepenos which I always like. Maple syrup drizzled on top was a good touch. The cuisine was exceptional, and the sauces were quite satisfactory as well. Intriguing flavors, though not entirely aligned with my preferences; still, it was acceptable. When we finally read the review that told us to go inside Stowe Cider, we found a bar with still no indication that we were in the right place! No one to direct us to a table. We went Saturday evening and were disappointed in the quality of the food. My wife and I got identical brisket meals and while her brisket was passable, mine was all dried out. The accompanying fries were dead cold. We commented to the meal delivery person (different from person taking order) and he stood there like a deer caught in car headlights. The place was loud making conversation almost impossible. Bare concrete floors, hard surface wall and bad guitar playing did not help. I think the automatic tip calculator must use a unique math computation to get what a 20% tip should be. I felt sorry for our waitperson who seemed good. Will not return. The salad was so good (apples, cranberries, gorgonzola), and the jalapeno cornbread wasnt spicy at all, but was very flavorful. The mac and cheese is very light on the cheese, and not your typical creamy velveeta style mac- more like macaroni with shredded cheddar sprinkled in. Chicken came with grilled zucchini and I substituted the cojita topped roasted potatoes. The pork was with Mac n cheese and a boatload of fries. I suggested that they charge way more for their food. It was fresh; cooked to perfection (smoked); steaming hot and tasty! 3 types of BBQ sauce and we LOVED the help yourself atmosphere! Believe me--I am very picky when it comes to restaurants; Being raised from a kid in my parents places and living and breathing restaurant food and the business from grammar school through well past my teens and into adult life til I got married-- we worked it 24-7. The brisket was a little heavy on the fat. The slaw was okay. The loaded baked potato was not loaded at all. It was mostly sour cream and maybe a tiny pinch of cheese. The mac and cheese was disappointing. It was dry and had no perceptible cheese. The sides in particular detracted from how good some of the other food was. I went here for dinner with my daughter hoping for some good BBQ, unfortunately, that is not what we were served. To start it off we weren't sure if we were at the right place because there is not a single sign outside that says anything about BBQ. Once we asked people walking outside, who also were not sure, we decided to go inside the cider place and see if it was in there. Once we went inside we realized we were in the right place. The cider I had was very good and the fries were good and crispy; that is where the good ends. I had a combo of brisket and pulled pork with mac and cheese and fries, my daughter had grilled shrimp with the same sides. The pulled pork was good but the pile of "meat" I was served was at least 50% chunks of fat (usually the stuff you pick out when making pulled pork). The brisket was so dry and full of unrendered fat. This was definitely just cooked quickly and did not follow the proper procedure to cook a brisket (I have made them on my home smoker before and know the process, this one was barely edible). The shrimp were cooked properly but had no flavor and just tasted like charcoal (my daughter wouldn't eat them). I gave her my mac and cheese so she could at least have something to eat besides the fries but then realized that the mac and cheese was worse than the meat. It's pretty hard to screw up a mac and cheese but this one tasted like plain pasta swimming in a puddle of grease. There was no cheese sauce, just a little shredded cheese sprinkles in, which you cannot even taste. After that, we were served an 80-dollar check for the worst meal I have had in quite some time for what was supposed to be a nice dinner out with my daughter.
