Very quaint. A very nice place for all ages. There is parking in the back that is hard to miss if you're a first timer. It's an older looking house but it's in a great location with some street parking around. I got the Flatliner which was very good for the most part. The only problem was my toast just wasn't toasted so it was just buttered bread. The mimosas are on point, so definitely recommend getting a couple of those. read more

Easy to miss because the restaurant is in an older house just off the beach. Smallish private parking behind the business. We were seated promptly in the small dining room. We were a little confused and hesitant at first when orange juice appeared at our table without us ordering any. I ordered The Left Side (French toast, eggs and bacon). My husband ordered the Doc Taylor ( bacon, egg and cheese with Parmesan roasted tomato, on onion roll. The food was tasty and came quickly. A little loud but that's probably because of the small dining room area. The food was good, maybe not the best but certainly worthy of a repeat trip. What really impressed us was a little sign in the dining area where you must request a straw (to help keep the beach and waterways clean) done in conjunction with Longwood University in Farmville Va! Great spot for breakfast. I sat at the bar and the service was fast and friendly. I got the signature Doc Taylor with grilled potatoes. I really liked the grilled Parmesan tomato in it. I was wondering around the boardwalk Sunday afternoon and decided to find somewhere that had brunch. Checked out Yelp and saw the great reviews, so we popped in here around 2pm. We didn't have to wait at all and were seated immediately. The menu is very to the point, which I loved! The waitress was very sweet and on point with her greeting and getting our order. We did not know they closed at 3pm, but we weren't rushed by any means. Food came out super fast and it was amazing. Every last bite. As our waitress was cleaning up, I handed her my card because I know it was close to 3pm and I didn't want her lingering for our check. I did specifically ask her if she could come back and check on us even after I paid the bill and tipped a generous amount, but she didn't. She honestly didn't even give us a second look. Just got her tip and dipped in to cleaning. I will come back because I want to try more food, but that was just a bit rude. read more

My fiance and I were in Virginia Beach for the weekend and wanted to find a spot to fill our stomachs before hitting the beach! We walked into the waiting area and didn't realize it was a waiting area for the restaurant. Once we checked in with the restaurant we were told an hour and a half wait. The reviews were so good we waited. The bar served cheap delicious mimosas while we waited. Once we were seated our waitress was very friendly and the service was very quick. My son and I went there on our annual pilgrimage (the 33rd for us) to the Boardwalk Art show last year. It was a odd time of year due to weather? Pandemic? But we have to maintain traditions. We wanted to have food and Doc Taylors had a line out the doors and a 20 minute wait. We were offered the seats at the grill. Not only have I not ever sat at the grill, but I also had never had the opportunity to observe the chefs at work. The three chefs? Or the three Grill Masters, 2 gentlemen and 1 lady were like a finely tuned machine? Orchestra? Whatever I would call them, they were impressive. They worked in sync with each other and it was wonderful and amazing to watch. I had, I think nut and grain pancakes. Perfectly cooked. My son had something with a ton of meat and an omelette. A large omelette! Coffee was strong and hot. The staff was friendly, and fast. We have been there before years ago, and the service is always fast, and the food, yummy. We can't fuss about the wait. The wait was LONG! It has to mean the food are going to be outta of park! It wasn't. It was good yes, but the 1.5 hours wait just wasn't worth it :) $2.50 mimosas were good while we wait. Then we were seated. The waitress was fast, friendly and kept in checking with us in which I appreciated. I also appreciated that I could get their egg benedict with spinach in lieu of Canadian bacon. It was good. The hollandaise sauce wasn't wow! But yeah, it's hard to perfect, I think. This place is really good. We waited over an hour to be seated, but we waited in the bar area and drank $2 mimosas (can't complain!). Food-wise, I ordered sweet potato pancakes (mmmm!). I didn't even need syrup. The space is really cramped, but the food is really delishhh! Staff is alright, just busy. Parking is limited- small back lot, but there are meters around. It's been awhile but, had my 4th epic visit to Doc Taylor's. You WILL be waiting for a table especially, during the Summer. My friend & I always have to wait but, end up hovering in the bar area, sipping on drinks, and catching two seats in front of the chefs/kitchen action. IMO, best seats in the house. The chefs truly have their process down. Each chef has their responsibility and work in synchronization to push the food out. It was like watching a symphony w/ punchy comedy. Hilarious listening to the chefs as orders were flowing. It seemed part their vibe which is something I completely respect. I've had several menu items. This 4th visit was one of my favs. I chose to order a la carte with a side of Fried Green Tomatoes, one egg, & Rye toast. They even have Orange Marmalade!!! My fav! The tomatoes were plump & flavorful! Earlier visits I had steak, hash browns, & eggs. All were cooked perfect. The sausage gravy looked amazing so, this is on my radar next visit. If anyone parks on the street, be sure to read the entire dissertation on the meters. The City of VB will find a way to squeeze every penny out of folks. You WILL be ticketed even though meters are out of order and #'s are spray painted black. End of rant. I digress. Loved my first time experience here! My sister and I are out-of-towners on vacation trying to find a spot to grab breakfast before hitting the beach all day. We heard good things about this place so we decided to try it out. It's a cute little place that can be described as Mom & Pop, Fast & Fresh, you name it. The food came out quick, hot, and delicious and the staff was so kind. We appreciated the precautions they were taking against COVID-19 here by wearing masks and requiring their guests to also wear masks until seated. Food and service was excellent. The only thing that would keep me from coming back is the fact that they keep the front door open with AC on and it's 90 degrees outside. Very hot and uncomfortable. Asked server why they would have the AC on with the Door open and she said the owner has an open door policy even in the winter the door is open with the heat on. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The food is so delicious and the service is great! We got the creamed chipped beef and the basic egg combo breakfast. The beef was so delicious! So creamy. They did a turkey sausage swap for the bacon. I appreciate them not creating a fuss about it as well. Their sourdough toast was so delicious, I could have eaten a whole loaf. They even gave us sone to go cups for our coffee which was sweet. I love the home town feel of the place. My only suggestion would to be have a bigger sign out front so the entrance is more recognizable. read more

First off I want to congratulate those who were able to get service here, especially on Labor Day weekend on a Saturday around noon where it looked like everyone had a great time. My friend and I couldn't be a part of it as we got flat out ghosted by the bartenders and staff. Nobody would stop and ask us if we wanted drinks/food. People who were there after us were getting served. A group of ladies and men got a drink order standing behind me while I was at the counter after standing there for about 7-8 minutes. Afterwards when seats at the bar opened, we sat in the middle of the bar, credit cards out with smiles and patience spread on our faces hoping to get their attention and they just kept walking past us and ignoring us. After several minutes, we tried waving and calling to get their attention, no one said anything to us. When one of them was making a drink right in front of me, I tried to get his attention to order and again, ignored while he looked at my face. Like we didn't exist. Probably the first time I've ever left a place w/o buying a product because I was flat out ignored after a good 20 minutes of wasting my time there. Made me question what did I do to deserve this. But Clint Eastwood once said "'deserves' got nuthin to do with this." Perhaps my facial appearance scared them. Or maybe my friends WVU hat he was wearing. The Doc didn't operate! We went here for breakfast two days in a row while visiting VA Beach! Grace was our server both days and took great care of us! We had the Breakfast burrito, the Doc Taylor sandwich, Doc Tuttle French toast and pancakes. All of it was delicious! The Belvedere had always been our VA Beach breakfast spot in VA Beach, but sadly it closed. The Doc Taylor sandwich was just like the Eye Opener at the Belvedere! So very charming. The kitchen/grill is open so you can see the chef cooking up s storm; I like that. I had the flatliner Fried egg, bacon, cheese and Parmesan tomato on an onion roll really really good. The accompanying potatoes with old bay seasoning were done just right. This was awesome good. Although somewhat unnoticeable along the road, this charming little restaurant is one you do not want to miss during your stay in Virginia Beach. You may be shocked by the significant wait times, but it will be worth every minute of the wait. The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy, sort of like going to your Grandma's house. They leave the front doors open. It's not fancy and small tables are sort of pushed together to create larger tables. But it was the best breakfast we had in Virginia Beach. I ordered the "The Right Side" breakfast which consisted of two pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I opted for chocolate chip pancakes. It was definitely a good choice. I was surprised by the variety of pancake flavor options. My boyfriend ordered "The Doc Taylor" which was essentially a bacon, egg, cheese, and tomato sandwich. He loved it. It's usually pretty busy here on the weekends so we had a 30 minute wait which we didn't mind since we were enjoying their yummy mimosas.... their Bloody Marys are really good too. We had a good time... the only thing I thought was kind of inconvenient is the one person bathroom and nowhere for you to stand without being in someone's way.
