We really enjoyed our meals. Portions were really big, so aware of that. My wife got a tuna basket and it was large tuna steak with fried, slaw, green beans and hush puppies. The tuna as grilled with a great seasoning. I had a fried flounder and oysters basket. There was around a dozen oysters that tasted great and two large flounder filets. It was all very good. We sat outside and the staff were wearing masks, so we felt safe eating here. And you just can't beat sitting on the docks and looking at the boats float by. read more

My cousins and I stopped by this restaurant for lunch today. We got a great table on the 2nd floor with a view of the water and a lovely breeze. I ordered the scallop burger. It wasn't actually a burger, but several seared scallops on a bun. Simple and delicious! The cole slaw was also very tasty. My 2 cousins ordered burgers and were very happy with them as well. My party and I came here as a last minute attempt to get some dinner as our reservation down the street fell through and I can confidently say I would've rather starved than eaten at this place. The outdoor seating was swarming with ginormous cockroaches and I can only assume that all of the food was deep fried to mask how mediocre the food was. So, years later I update this review because I've ignored my previous recommendation to myself to avoid Dock House when in Beaufort, and I always return because of the location. I've been pleasantly surprised by the experiences I have had. First, know that this is not a fine dining restaurant. If you want easy, breezy, salt in the air drinks and food, then this is your place. We come here a lot for drinks and sit near the water, either up top or below, and have not been disappointed. Since my 2011 review, I am now vegetarian, and for 3 years I've come for bar food app, but recently had their garden burger, and holy moley, it was yummo! This is a great place to come and get your grub and drink on, but meet locals, salty dog fishing folks, and watch boats come in, while also catching the horse views over at Carrot Island. We always learn a ton from our servers, about the hidden gems about Beaufort, and we suddenly feel like locals ourselves. So, don't be like me 2011 and think this place is a dive and ignore it, be like me 2017 and know this place is dive and embrace it, love it, and sink into it. read more

Sat upstairs good lunch option on the water. They treated us great and was very attentive but noticed they had no tolerance for AH's at the resteraunt. For that i give them a five instead of 4. If your party is larger than 6 dont come here. Sign out front tells you that. They dont have the staff to accommadate you. They ll tell you to leave if you try to argue thier policies. I thought it was great for what it was. Food served in baskets. And cold beers. And drinks in plastic cups. Dont ask for a glass bring your own if you want a glass. Came by relatively late with five hungry stomachs (mine included) and they were able too accommodate us. Apparently in Summer 2021, the restaurants are closing Tues&Weds. The menu was broad enough to satisfy our burgers-only child as well as epicurean child and three grown ups who wanted seafood. The wait staff was terrific, both courteous and helpful, even though they were swamped with patrons. We are outside. The food was terrific and the portions generous. I had the scallop and oyster basket. The batter fried oysters plump and juicy inside the crunchy crust. The scallops were perfectly seared, flavorful and perfectly textured. My mother enjoyed the blacked shrimp while my daughter had scallops and shrimp. What had started as a meal borne of necessity became a real treat. read more

The dockhouse has always been a must stop for the family when we are in town. Unfortunately this time, I feel like it is starting to go downhill. We ordered their signature drink (shipwreck) and asked for it in a glass instead of a plastic cup. The waitress informed us that their order of glasses and merchandise didn't get sent out. Which to me, means they didn't pay to place the order. Anyway- we were there around 130-2 and they had such a limited menu that they didn't even offer an actual menu to peruse. We tried to Eat lunch there but apparently they don't like groups of seven, refused to let us sit at anywhere other than by the trash. Can we have 2 tables up front with a view- not on 'Karen's' watch- in fact she openly refused to serve us and told her co workers that. I ate at this restaurant twice in one week but with different groups each time. Why? One word -- location. It's one of the only restaurant/bars on the waterfront and in Beaufort that's what you're really there for. The food was just okay. I really wouldn't say anymore. The service was lacking and even on their menu they give that disclaimer. It says -- be ready to wait for your food! Sit back and relax! All, in all I would go here again but only for a cocktail and to listen to live music that they have at night. I would suggest finding another place in town to eat! read more

Great atmosphere and music. However, we've been here for 1.5 hrs with 6 people. Everyone has finally gotten their food. My date and I have been waiting 15 mins for the crab dip. I went here on Tuesday, 9/14, and we had a great lunch. The two ladies ordered the cold platter and shared and I ordered the Cajun Mahi basket. All of the food was delivered relatively quickly, who can complain about anything with the water view right from the front row, and was very good. I want to point out that they are short-staffed and our waitress Sarah, was also serving as the hostess. She handled both duties efficiently and with a smile. We are lunch here roughly two weeks ago. Due to Covid, they only offered outside seating. The view of the sound was gorgeous and dotted with fishing boats and sail boats. We got a fried shrimp plate and a combination fried shrimp, flounder and oyster plate. The portions were huge and the food was fantastic. It was a bit pricey, however they offset the cost with the amount of food served. We definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Spent a week in eastern North Carolina with my mother while looking for a home to buy. We cross-crossed several cities which is how we found the Dock Restaurant. Got here at 5 when it opened for dinner. Waitress couldn't answer questions about the food. Then it took over an hour to get served (other people came, ordered, ate and left before we got served). The burger was good, but not really worth the money. The server was sweet and attentive but the manager was awful. He didn't acknowledge us for about ten minutes even though it wasn't busy and he was standing right in front of us. Even when someone finally came over they weren't apologetic. this was our first stop after we docked here. We got into the marina at 1130pm on a Friday night and we could hear the live band kickin' ass from 200 ft out on the water. The place was packed. In the 2 hours we were there (midnight-2am) we the following took place: A girl shot her beer out of her nose, all over my back. A different girl was doing push ups on the bar floor. Some middle aged groupies were gettin down with their bad selves to the cover band, and a very large girl tried to fight a very large man. Not to mention a round (for 6 people) was only 22.50. I will start by saying that I should have read the other Yelpers reviews. However, my hubby & kids have to eat by 6:30 at the latest before they turn into cRaZy people and it was 7 something. I wanted to go to a different waterfront restaurant but they had loud music playing so we opted for Dock House. The views are amazing and that can almost compensate for the weird service & mediocre food. We started with the crab dip. It seemed like the thing to do at the beach. It was ok, nothing fab but we didn't get to try much because of the small number of pita points that came with it. When a different waiter happened by (because we saw very little of our waiter) we asked for more pita pts. She said that would be $1. Well, I guess we're gonna go for it since we have more than half our dip remaining. The pita pts come out...all 8 of them. Seriously? $.125/pita point? Ok. My hubby saw a bear he wanted, ordered it, they were out. Went with choice #2 and they had it but it wasn't very cold when served. The waiter- bless his heart. I don't think this is a long term career for him. He was very nice but had trouble taking our orders. He was either REALLY nervous or having DTs--not sure which. As another reviewer stated, there wasn't much choice on the menu. I went with the fried shrimp platter. My child had chicken tenders from the kids menu. The hush puppies on my plate were burned beyond recognition so they were a no go. The slaw was HORRIBLE. It actually had sweet pickles in it. The fries would've been fine if they were hot. My daughter said the chicken tastes like McDonalds- could be a complaint or a compliment, she's 11. The desserts looked good on the menu but we were done with the whole place by dessert time. Bottom line: if you're hungry, skip it. Drinks while soaking in the view from the balcony, totally worth it. read more
