I walked through the door, and noticed the place has an odor. Like a bait shop. Funky! The produce was so-so. Another market where you'd have to pick through the apples to find a good one! No good eating apples either. Just pie apples. Price Rite is the same way, but half the price. Dry goods and refrigerated things are run of the mill. Deli was all low quality. Was not impressed. Would not order anything there. Got to the meat shelf, which has everything in an 8 foot space. Packaged cuts were similar to other big markets. Whole loins were a little less. Not a big difference between their regular prices and those at the other markets. Rib eyes were still $9 a pound and small. They advertise as USDA "lean and tender." There's no such thing. USDA grades are Prime, Choice, Select, and numbers 1 through..... 99% of what you see in the market is choice or select. The seafood counter was very nice and clean. Fish was fresh and reasonably priced. Maybe their saving grace. Stuffed cod fish was good. I would buy it again. Lobster rolls were also good. Lots of little rubbery claw tips but still good. Lobster Mac and cheese had leg meat. Little strings. Disappointed. Clam chowder was good. Thin but perfectly acceptable. Would go again for the seafood if sales flyer enticed me, but I'd leave the rest of their stuff alone. There was one cashier on and I waited longer than I'd liked to. They have two registers, and I could imagine it being slow. I thought the place, with all it's advertising would be bigger, and better. read more

This is a value market. I buy minced clams, tenderloin, sirloin and butter here on a regular basis. The meats are packaged in bulk and you trim them yourself. The seafood is the most reasonably priced around. Most of the fish is farmed but the prices work for me right now. They have a great selection of unusual cheeses. read more

I will never ever go here again, this place deserves 5 negative stars. I'm not from Rhode Island but wanted to stock up on seafood while passing through. Most of the seafood in the case was actually turning brown and was visibly dried out. The one piece of haddock I purchased was the only thing that looked edible. I purchased a premade lobster mac and cheese and it tasted like the lobster was dead before it was cooked....very fishy taste and smell. There was a pork loin on sale so thinking it was a good deal, I spent $10+ on one. Opened it and oh my god, the smell was overbearingly rancid! I tossed a couple of pieces out to the wildlife (fox) and even they refused it. I threw the whole thing out. Nothing is fresh here, even a pie we purchased seemed to be at end of life. If I didn't live 2 1/2 hrs away I'd return the whole purchase. What a waste of money! read more

As this is Rhode Island, I'm not sure if all the procurement is on the up-and-up, but Dockside is my go-to for large (and cheap) meat and seafood purchases. I was originally told of Dockside by one of the physicians-in-residence on Block Island, who have to purchase massive quantities of food on the mainland to avoid the outrageous on-island prices. Her very excellent tip: a Google search of Dockside Marketplace will lead you to the ProJo classified page listing specials for the week. And special it is! I've gone home with $4/lb NY strip, $5 filets mignon, and pounds of reasonably priced seafood. The catch is that you've gotta buy the whole primal cut. That's right, fifteen pounds of NY strip, or 5 pounds of tenderloin. Butchery is on you - they charge essentially a dollar-per-cut if you ask them to convert the meat slab into steaks behind the counter. But surprisingly, theirs is top-quality meat, much better than that available at Stop-and-Shop/Shaws, and only a step down from the premium stuff at Whole Foods. But at a quarter of the price. Produce and dry goods are okay. Door prize specials include pies and other snacks. Lunch specials include again surprisingly tasty soups and fried foods. Too bad it's on the far side of the airport when coming from Providence, otherwise, this would be a weekly destination. read more

In today's Providence Journal, they are advertising a 5# bag of "Perdue" Fully Cooked Chicken Wings - a Football Special- for $2.99. When you attempt to purchase them, they state that they are $2.99 per pound, not $2.99 for the bag. Other items are advertised at a low price, but they clearly state that the price shown, is per pound (e.g. 53 of shaved steak, for $3.99, but it clearly states, that the $3.99 is the per pound price), which I'm not complaining about. LAME that they won't honor their mistake! Thank goodness that Dave's Marketplace is nearby! read more

Dockside is close to where I live so that's a big plus for when I just want a few things (especially meat or seafood). Pros: great deli/prepared foods, meats are fresh and reasonably priced, seafood is also, can also score good deals in dairy and frozen sections. Cons: they close at 6 pm, they get insanely busy on Saturdays-especially first of the month, grocery items tend to priced quite a bit higher, produce looks old to me. I've usually had courteous people waiting on me, which I really appreciate. Nice local place to get a few things now and then. read more

This place is a great local grocery store. I had to come on here and write a review because every time I go there for fish, I'm always amazed by their pricing and quality of food. Their prepared foods are cheap and are big portions. The fish is always brought in fresh daily from what I was told(and it seems that way when cooking with it). The meat is always fresh and has great prices. Also, their butcher does a great job! I'm finding that I've been starting to go here more and more for meats and fish as the quality and pricing is hard to match. Today I noticed, Stop & Shop had a bag of prepackaged chicken breasts for $8.99. Dockside had the same thing for $2.50. And it is fresh! I don't understand really how but i'm not asking questions. I wouldn't really go here for produce as the pricing is a little high and they are usually older looking and wilted. For the most part, I'll only get fish and meats here. Best bang for the buck for sure if you're sticking to buying meats/seafood here.. read more

Went in there today with a screenshot of their current Ad which says good thru 7/3/2019. The Steamers were advertised at $4.99 a pound. I was charged $5.99 a pound. And when I asked the person in charge he said, "typographical error". And refused to honor the Ad. They just want to screw people because it's a holiday. Never again! read more

Forget the capital grill, ruth's chris, abe and louie's, etc. if you can cook up a filet from this spot with the usual sides, you'll eat like a king during quarantine, you and the whole fam. My kids (3 and 5) have turned into "steak monsters", and shhhhht, go ahead and forget the béarnaise sauce. No just kidding, they'll attack you, don't forget the béarnaise! I go to Dockside every week. They always seem to have great specials on deli meats and cheeses. Even the deli items that aren't on sale are cheaper, and of better quality, than what you can find at the large chain markets. They also have great prices on beef and seafood. I'm not quite sure how they're able to offer quality food so cheap (and I'm not about to ask questions), but Dockside has the best prices around. The biggest drawback to Dockside is the amount of time it takes to get served at the deli. If they aren't very busy, you will get served right away. However, if they have a big sale and you don't get there right after they open, you can expect to wait 10-15 minutes before they call your number. Also, they're not open very late into the evening, which makes it difficult to get there during the work week. Overall, Dockside is a good place to get more bang for your food-shopping buck. read more

I went there last night to pick up a few items for a birthday dinner I was making for my husband. When I got home, I realized that a bag was missing. I called the store right away and my husband went with the receipt. Missing from my purchases were Two packages of rib eye steaks and some frozen fries that came to $23. We were told that they are not responsible for bags not taken by customer and that there was nothing they could do. To quote the store owner "they are not stop and shop and can't afford to be responsible." Let me just say that from now on they will no longer be receiving my business. I hit up the dockside weekly if not a couple times a week. Usually try and get all my fresh foods there and any of the cupboard dry products/frozen I get from Aldi's or places like that. You can't beat their deli prices, I can't in good conscience by land of Lakes cheese from anywhere else. Weekly I stock up my cold cuts draw at dockside and pick up whatever meat deals I can find. As my day off shopping trip I'll usually pick up a lobster roll or lobster bisque as a treat the price is usually always right. If you follow the Flyers and shop the deals you'd be surprised at what you can take home from the store. I'm not sure of the complaints of the employees attitudes, but we all have our bad days from time to time. I've never found anyone rude, maybe a couple just quiet on certain days. But if u smile and are personable everyone is nice back to you. I'll admit but I do have a little bit of social anxiety and I appreciate the store for the kind attitude that I experience when I'm there. Makes it a lot easier for me to gather what I need for my home. And on that note I'm heading out to dockside for my weekly trip read more

In the past they have always had excellent deals and excellent service. I used to shop there at least once a week or more. I stopped today to buy boneless chicken for $1.59 an pound. I bought a 40 pound case when I got to the register the case was marked $79.60, I asked the cashier to weigh it again because it was wrong and refused, would not call someone and wanted me to get out of line and carry it back and let them deal with it. I told her to stick it and will never step foot in the store again. People should ban together and boycott them and then maybe they will improve customer service. read more

Great prices and quality on chicken, steak, fish, pork and deli products. Also excellent value on the chicken soup, chowders and other daily prepped foods. Can agree the produce section is a bit lacking but the broccoli is always of better quality than S&S and 30 cents/lb cheaper. A no nonsense deli-centric market. It's dated looking, sure, but what it lacks in good looks it makes up for in grocery and deli deals. It's a "seafood" marketplace, but I tend to stop there for seafood, beef, and pork all had at great prices. Today my daughter and I went to Dockside Seafood to get some steamers and items for dinner. I have always had a good experience here in the past, and the food has always been fresh. Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience today that I feel could have been easily avoided. I purchased 6lbs of steamers and when I got home I placed them in a stockpot in cold water. I visualized most all of the steamers were open and this concerned me since my 9 year old daughter would be eating them. I brought the bag back to the store with my receipt. I was approached by a woman who I later found out to be the owner's girlfriend. She told me there was nothing she could do for me since they were already cooked. I explained to her that I did not cook them and she brought the bag over and flung the bag at me causing COLD water to splash my feet. She asked me why the bag was hot and I told her I didn't know since the water she splashed me with was cold. Her tone with me was condescending and rude, and she told me to leave the store. She ma'am'ed me more than once which I hate and told her not to ma'am me. She didn't like that very much. She said they had been in business for 30 years and they would never sell anything bad to a customer. I tried to explain that I was not trying to bad mouth the store but I was simply concerned about my daughter getting sick. She told me to leave the store and that I could not talk to the owner. She came towards me and got very close to my face almost as if she was going to hit me. I saw daggers in her eyes! After some time going back and forth and getting nowhere with this woman a very kind gentleman named Larry came over and offered to show me what happens to the steamers when fresh water is applied to them. Also, the gentleman who served me, Brian, was also very nice and I do not blame him at all for my experience. If the owners girlfriend had taken a nicer tone with me I honestly would have just cut my ties and left, no hard feelings. She had a very entitled attitude and actually rolled her eyes at me. Because of this experience, I will not be patronizing this store or Tommy's Clam Shack again. But don't worry, I know they don't care! Take my advice and stay away from the owner's girlfriend, she's a beast! read more

This is my FAVORITE store. The prices are amazing, the selections of meats, chicken and fish are unbeatable. I adore the deli selection, again the cheapest prices I have ever seen. The produce sometimes hit or miss, but again really cheap prices. Always, have fresh baked berad and they have premade meals that are huge help during the week. I can't say enough positive things about this store. I'm in here at least 2-3 times a week, if you smile at the staff they smile and chit chat with you too ONly bad thing about them is, they close at 6 if they closed at 7 it would be great!. I've read all of the reviews and it is apparent people are not informed. Most comments are about the fresh local fish and meat. I shop here just a couple of times a year when I am visiting. It is close by and I like to purchase from the local community. But last week I wanted to purchase shrimp. I went to the fish counter and saw they had 3 options. Of course they were headless and appeared frozen. I realize New England still has a ban on shrimping and it is January. However I assumed they would partner with their neighbors from the south since the Carolinas are known for their seafood and shrimp. I ask for 4 pounds and was told that he has prewrapped frozen packages in 2 pound bags, would that be OK? I said sure. He hands me 2 commercially branded prewrapped bags which I thought odd. But I took them and brought them home. I read the bag to see where they were from and they were from India! I was so disappointed. So they buy their shrimp from overseas and then throw them in their display case and try to pass them off as local? How disheartening. I guess it is buyer beware and our fault for not inquiring when you buy their products. I wonder where the rest of the fish come from? Another mention I would like to share. I bought a bag of green beans. The cashier opened the bag to look inside. OK fine. But then proceeded to stick her hand in the bag to toss the vegetables around. I asked what she was doing and she said they have to inspect all bags. Seriously. Like what could I have hidden in a 1 pound bag of green beans? A pearl onion maybe? I was so insulted by this accusation and adding insult to injury to find I just purchased shrimp from India I was officially done with this place. Fish was good but the service is horrible. Not only do the managers yell at their staff in front of customers, but they are rude to the customers as well. I was waiting in line and was told to go to the other register where there was another line. The women said she was the owner and it was her store her rules and that they had to talk. I was recently quoted $13.99 a lb for snail/conch meat over the phone after this price was verified by the seafood dept (the day before 4th of July). I got there 45 minutes later, and the price jumped to $16.99 a lb. The rude seafood guy and the Manager was standing next to him but didn't let on he was the manager (I know better...been there a few times) denied it and said no one said that. Don't call first if you're interested in certain product. go down and look first. BTW, when I had called to verify prices, I asked he had plenty of it. So I guess it's just price gouging. Will not go back. Will go out of my way to find a more ethical, reputable store. read more

How terrible! I ordered a dozen baked stuffed lobsters for my family on Christmas Eve. The person who took my order told me to pick them up at 9am on Christmas Eve. Today I called and told them I would be in "in a couple of hours" after picking up my cheesecakes, cookies, and desserts. Around 10:30am I received a phone call making sure I was still coming in. I told them yes and that I had called already. I said I would be there in an hour or so. At 12:00 I get another call from LOUANNE telling me that TOM the MANAGER said he was going to sell off my lobsters. I told her I was five minutes away, and if they couldn't wait 5 minutes then go ahead and sell them! She HUNG UP ON ME AND SAID THEY WERE SELLING THEM AND TO FIND MY LOBSTERS SOMEWHERE ELSE! Today I was in the Dockside Seafood that I would actually frequent quite often and got normal service but today was the day where normal service went to worst. So much so that I am making my first review on yelp. I was with my sister and we were ordering our meats at the deli. My sister and I were being helped by different people and I ordered some brown sugar ham. My sister had never had it before and wanted to try it. I had asked if it was ok to cut a small piece for her to try which at most deli's it has never been is never a problem. However the man that was helping my sister said what do they think this is, a restaurant? At this point I had made a comment to the man about his rude comment and he gave me a dirty look. At this point a manager comes out to speak with me and I decide that I don't want to buy anything from here again, the manager gives me the number to the owner named Tom. This was a chance for them to make good on this. An apology would be nice, so I call and spoke with Tom the owner. I started to explain the situation and he cut me short and put me on hold. At this point in time the person who comes on the phone tells me Tom is no longer available after I had just spoken to him not even a minute ago. So unless Tom stepped out to fire the rude deli person I don't see why he couldn't of apologized to me and tell me that they will handle the employees behavior accordingly but none of that happened. I am here to say that they don't truly care about their customer as much as they say or else maybe this review would be different. read more

I am a new customer to Dockside. I was sent there by one of my friends who swears by their seafood. You can tell the store is family owned and operated, which I like, however it does seem a little outdated. I checked out the flyer and they had some pretty good deals. I did notice that the produce section was pretty lackluster and decided against purchasing any veggies from Dockside to go with our dinner. The deli looked like it had a lot to offer and was busy while I was there (ill definitely check it out next time I'm in). When I got to the seafood counter the gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and you can tell he has been in the seafood business for awhile. I intended on buying the scrod they had for sale but I also saw fish the looked similar in the case. He filled me in that the other fish I saw was the same type of fish I was looking for but the fresh version. He advised that if I was going to be baking the fish that the fresh fish version was the way to go. I never knew, that when I saw scrod advertised that its actually previously frozen fish. Now that I know this I will only buy the fresh in the future. He also convinced me to purchase the in store made portuguese stuffies and let me tell you they were AMAZING!! I highly recommend trying them. I will definitely be back! read more
