I'm giving it 4 stars for the ambiance. The inlet makes for a peaceful setting for dinner. They seemed yo be a bit busy to bring what we had asked for, but it really something of a big deal. I had a shrimp po-boy with fries which was really good, but I would have liked to have had the fries be seasoned with some type of seasoning. The water was horrible; however, Val-p never had a reputation for good tap water. Next time I go, I'll ask for bottled water. read more

The food was delicious! Not overly greasy, even though everything seemed to be fried, and the oil used tasted fresh. The hush puppies were so much better than anywhere else I've been. The part I didn't like were the overly drunk parents with small children. Don't plan on dressing fancy to come out here because this place is more like a locals only type of bar/restaurant, which is kinda great. read more

Love the live music and extremely friendly atmosphere. The food is great and if you can't find an oyster that you like... you don't like oysters! They have them prepared so many way. The wife loves the raw and I like them fried, while our friends prefer them grilled in several variations. We have many of our friends hooked on this place now... I live three blocks from this restaurant and really enjoy the convenience, ambiance, food, and scenery. It is a really cool place and from time to time have excellent musicians playing. The food has always been good also. However, until they can correct the way they take orders and put in place a wait staff I will have a hard time returning. The current order process is extremely frustrating when you have to wait 10 min in line to order a beer/drink and then when you want another you have to go through the same process again. It never fails that you get behind 3 or 4 people that can't make up their mind what they want or have many questions about the menu. I went through this process twice on Wednesday June 8, 2017 before giving up and going to another local spot. I can't fault the girl at the cash register, she was extremely efficient and nice but was put in a difficult situation by management on a busy night. This place has tremendous potential but until they can figure out the customer service side of the business I will have to go elsewhere. read more

If you're looking for a fun, local joint, check this place out. We absolutely love this local dive bar. It's so cute, is right on the water, has live music regularly, and has good, decently priced food. I don't even drink alcohol or like seafood, and I still love it here. The pork tacos are my favorite, but the chicken basket is great too. My friends love the shrimp basket and of course the oysters. Come pay this place a visit! read more

I came to eat at Doc's with coworkers of mine, which we heard had good food since we are in town for a job. The food is excellent and for the most part the service was good, however the night we came one of the employees was cussing, acting like a fool, etc. in front of everybody. This went on for over 15 minutes and I guess he just couldn't handle the stress of this establishment being busy like it was. I don't mean to get anyone in trouble, but I believe his name was Jason or something like that because he was told to chill/leave by some of the customers who knew him. This little place has good food! They were busy for lunch but the staff still managed to come by to refill a few drinks and check on us. Fish tacos were great and the lobster ones looked wonderful. Every.Single.Dish here is delicious. Their sauces are amazing. They have good craft beer among other drinks. They also do a buy one get one beer for military. Not to mention it's right on the water. It's peaceful and beautiful. It looks like a hole in the wall when you first pull up but they practice good sanitation. They do say the best restaurants are the hole in the wall restaurants. Highly recommend! My co-workers and I eat here often for lunch. They serve delicious oyster poboys and soft shell crab sandwiches. Actually, all their entrees to include their oysters are extremely tasty and supplemented with a beautiful view of the bayou. Don't be fooled by the rustic appearance of the outside. it is good, it is a bit slow for service but that is expected at any oysrer bar... i do really like the baked oysters with parmasean and black pepper. Gumbo and Chili are things i would stay away from as they are not even clsoe to good. read more

this place is my fav place I've found in the Destin / Ft Walton area for oysters. my fav oysters are the baked cheese and baby shrimp. the food is extremely good (even the chicken wings are HUGE) but the service is sometimes poor. both times I went we struggled to find a table that was cleared off from trash from previous customers so we just ended up clearing the table ourselves. the staff is really friendly though but they do get rushed since this place is quite popular. for the best view / time to visit, go right before sunset and you'll be able to sit and relax right on the water. will definitely be coming back again and bringing my family when they come to visit! read more

Food and atmosphere was great! We had some baskets, Tuna dip, taco, hush puppies and chargrilled oysters. The oysters were my main reason for going, as I have dreams of Drago's in NOLA. We got 4 different kinds, and they were just so tiny and 3 different types tasted the exact same. So that was a bit of a disappointment. Some tips: 1-Waze brought us to the compass rose lot, so we were confused. Go down past glen street a bit to park, if you can get a spot. 2- It is order at the counter. No big deal, but I wish I had known that just so I could have had my 3 kids ready to order when we got there. read more

Absolutely delicious oysters! Went here with our two kids on a week night. We didn't realize it was a bar, but it was fine and the kids had delicious hotdogs and fries. My husband and I tried the platter with an assortment of fried fish, oysters and shrimp. All delicious. We also tried a dozen oysters and they were the best I've had. Friendly staff and definitely a dive type of place but we like that. Will definitely go back. FYI. Kids are not allowed after 7pm. read more

Raw oysters are superb and also peel and eat shrimp. Place doesn't look like much from the outside but the food and service was awesome. We sat out on the deck overlooking the water. It was a beautiful day and the boats were docking to come get a bite to eat. Very cool place to hang out. read more

Haven't ever had anything bad to eat here. The lobster tacos are delicious, the pulled pork fries are awesome, the burgers are amazing, and the atmosphere is great. Not a ton of seating but definitely a great view if you're on the decks. Decor is pretty funny...a mix of old obstetrician gadgets mixed in with some local history and beach decor. read more

My husband and I love this place! Great view, awesome service (most of the time) delicious food. Our only complaint is the service on Sundays. Food is good but the gentleman behind the counter needs some improvement with his customer service skills. He's unprofessional, enters incorrect orders and can be very rude and lackadaisical. Overall, we love this place - we will simply avoid dining in on Sundays. read more

Tried to go to Tucker Duke's for lunch Saturday, but it was totally packed. I was starving and getting chilled. Tried to go to Compass Rose, but they weren't serving lunch. While we were standing in the parking lot, discussing our options, one of the food prep worker guys (I am assuming from his attire and teeth) said we should head down to Doc's. Said the food was good and it was kid-friendly. So we did. Goofy little place. Is that a speculum on the wall? Guess Doc was a GYN? Luck would have it that we were there during Happy Hour (12-3), so a dozen oysters on the half were $7. Really great oysters!!!! I was surprised how good! The only problem was that we got some shells and I thought I may have chipped a tooth but it was a false alarm. We also got 1/2 pound peel'n'eat shrimp. They were not seasoned like the typical peel'n'eat, and a little bit on the small side, but I wasn't disappointed. They have really good cocktail sauce and there was plenty of hot sauce, too. I tried my husband's grilled oysters - he had them with some bacon and cheese (I wasn't listening when he ordered) and they were really tasty. Caught another shell, though. I noticed that the shucker was pretty aggressive.... Downside - pricey for what you get. My kids all ordered off regular menu and the burger was like almost 10 bucks, as was the chicken sandwich. Third kid had a hot dog for $5.50ish? I didn't try the kids' food, but it only came with the sandwich - no sides. That could have been an oversight on our server, though, because they did have a display of chips.... Obviously not a big enough deal for me to say something! AND because I am picky and this is MY review, the music when we got there was some obscure 70's rock with some long obnoxious guitar riffs. Music just *slightly* too loud and I was hungry, so it annoyed me a LOT. After I ate a little and the station was changed to NOT obscure 70's music, I felt much better. I would definitely go back for Happy Hour oysters! The staff was friendly and attentive! Solid 3.5 stars! read more

After a few days of high dollar fine dining, we were looking for a change of pace. We found Doc's on Yelp, which has become our routine while traveling. This place is on a river in a shack reminiscent of an Earnest Hemingway novel. But don't let appearances fool you. Great laid back atmosphere, friendly staff and multitudinous variety of oysters roasted in the half shell. For the ladies, be aware that Doc, the owner is a former OBGYN. If you are apprehensive or scared of speculums (speculi?) and other gynecological accoutrement, don't go inside. Doc's tools of the trade are proudly displayed on the walls. You owe it to yourself to give this "dive" a try. read more
