First off, they apparently let men and women swap bathrooms because my wife had to wait for a dude to come out of the ladies room. Their idea of AC is having a fan set to "high" and aimed directly onto your table. We had to lock down all the napkins. The service was slow, which there was no excuse because it was a Tuesday afternoon. The food was not very good. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich, which I've had way better at other places. On our first trip to Corpus Christi, Doc's was recommended to us by a local. We went for a small, snack lunch and was not disappointed! The atmosphere is exactly what a coastal restaurant should be... Completely open on the back overlooking the water, breezy and relaxing. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. They had 4 daily specials, all of which sounded great, but we just ordered a variety of appetizers to try: the peel n' eat shrimp, the clam chowder and the crab cakes... 2 out of 3 ain't bad! The peel n' eat shrimp were great! The shrimp quality was awesome and the flavor was fresh. The clam chowder was warm, and thick. It could have used a little more clam flavor, but I still enjoyed it. The crab cakes were ok. They were very crispy, but the fried flavor overwhelmed the crab flavor. I want to say they needed to change their frying oil. When you went in for a bite, you could smell the "fried" before you tasted it. All-in-all, I would definitely go back. Ate there on a Sunday evening. Wait was about 20-25 mins for a party of 5. We grabbed drinks at the bar and watched fish cleaning out on the side of the building while we waited. We had the blackened shrimp queso as an app and it was pretty good. I had the crab stuffed flounder and it was awesome. The green beans and red potatoes were great, too. My fiancé got the seafood sampler with fried shrimp, crab cakes, filet fish, fries and hush puppies. My favorite were the shrimp. 2 others in our party had the fried shrimp platter. This place was highly recommended to us by our hotel manager AND the locals, so we decided to check it out. We arrived around 7:30pm and the wait was an hour long. This is supposedly the busy time because of the sunset view of the bay from the restaurant. We didn't actually get a table until 8:30 or so, long after the sun had set. We actually did secure a seat right by the bay, but it was dark outside and we couldn't fully enjoy it. :(. We had the fried mushrooms appetizer, but it wasn't anything to write home about - it was just fried mushrooms. I ordered the tilapia with shrimp cream sauce and it was...okay. The Tilapia was grilled but it was really watery and a bit mushy. The sauce was kind of bland, so it didn't give it any real kick. I had this accompanied by Rosemary potatoes, which were a bit oily, but had much more flavor than the fish. Again, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the 20 dollars I inevitably paid. Service was amazing and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The view of the bay (I imagine) from our seat was great, had it been day, perhaps better. Holy Best of Everything, Batman! Jimmy our waiter was fantastic. The piping hot sourdough bread was out of this world. When down on north shore you will find limited hot spots so having Doc's is a joy because the food is fresh, the people are cool and the scenery is relaxing. SERVICE: The staff is overwhelmingly nice, patient and informative. This is a busy restaurant and they have to serve thousands of people on a busy night so having a patient waiter is pleasing. They bus a whole lot of tables and run all over the restaurant to serve their clients. TIP well because they deserve it. FOOD & DRINKS: Make sure to start off with an order of peel and eat shrimp. They arent huge in size but they are fresh and really get your night started on the coast. Dont forget the margarita on the rocks! The house version is good for the price, blending the right amount of tequila and sweet mix. Of course you never know what you will get depending on the bartender but try one and always order another if its good. At times the coconut shrimp is the best simple entree but sometimes they can come out soggy if the wait staff lets the food sit and die under the heat in the kitchen. This typically happens if you have a large group or your waiter has too many tables. For lunch the coconut shrimp is the best option. I also enjoy the crab stuffed fish but make sure you like butter as this plate can become overly rich leaving you with a soggy plate of mashed meat. The kids burgers are a good size and good taste. Their entree burgers are huge and any burger lover should try one. The meat lacks a little flavor but the juicyness is perfection. It doenst fall apart either. Enjoy!! read more

The food is on point delicious. I had Docs Stuffed Chicken (as always) and it was succulent delicious. My salad was good w tasty honey mustard. The croutons were food service issue. The bread and butter were better than downtown. The frozen margarita was triple AAA plus perfect! The server lacked. But we did eventually get everything we asked for and ate it right up. Kudos to bus boy who brought us a fan to cool us down as Mexico fires were bad that day and it was sunny, hot, and humid. Eight adults for 2pm lunch, 7 ordered entrees, 1 soup and salad, 4 bar drinks, 2 beers, no apps, no dessert, bill was $220. We had a good time. Nothing worse than eating when you are sweating! Drinks - watered down! Cheap margarita was horrible so I figured I'd try an Absolute and Orange juice. I honestly believe that they had water in the bottle as the drink was very watered down! Food - I ordered blackened tuna. It was sub par and served with obviously frozen vegetables. Service - bar staff was not very friendly. Might be because they were sweating their asses off! Waitress was decent. She did a decent job but unfortunately it was masked by the heat and crappy food. I've been to Doc's twice and walked away happy both times. Fresh and daily fish specials are good. Side salad is fresh and well portioned. Last night they had relaxing live music which was nice. Good on-the-water atmosphere and friendly staff. The only gripe I have are inconsistency in service - one visit we were in and out, another time it felt as if every phase of our meal lasted 10 minutes longer than it should have. The menu is of a reasonable size and well curated. Friendly place with something for everyone. I'd recommend Doc's. read more

made the 3 1/2 drive from Austin to Corpus Christi just to have lunch in doc's. yup, we did. was it worth it? I my opinion, double hell yeah! Karen was our server. she was fabulous! so pleasant and accommodating. we started off with a frozen margarita for 2. man, drank that sucker like it was soda! yep, it was sooo good and worth the head buzz early in the afternoon. (and it didn't even interfere with my shopping afterwards! boo yah!) then came the crab cakes. 2 cakes per order and it came with the usual tartar sauce. you know, it didn't even need it. it was tasty on its own. my entree was the crab stuffed flounder and hubby had the florentine flounder (or some name close to that. hehe). entrees come with a salad (ask for the cilantro ginger dressing. you won't regret it) and your choice of a side. we both chose the Cajun dirty rice. the rice portion was pretty sparse, so we got an extra order. so so tasty and perfectly spiced and tender fresh fish. what more could you ask for? we seriously considered getting the stuffed crab portabella mushroom for desert, (go ahead and judge us), but after all the food was consumed, we were done. white flag was up. Karen asked us if it was time for a nap! I would've taken one then ordered another round of drinks as soon as I woke up! anyway, by the sound of this, you should know we had good food and a great time. wouldn't mind making another long drive just for this. the restaurant is wide open and looks out into Corpus Christi bay. it's breezy and pleasant. the view looks better in photos, so I was kinda disappointed :( but hey, you're there for the food and you'll have an awesome time for sure. read more

This place is kind of a ritual for us. Perhaps better phrased as an excuse for us... As in we use this place for an excuse to hop in the convertible and take a fun run down to Corpus / Port Aransas. The food is very good, but I'm sure we can all say we've had better somewhere. What can't be beat though is eating outside on the veranda with the sun setting in the background and the semi casual feel of the whole place with the live music playing in the background. We found this on our very first trip to San Antonio five years ago when we came for a job interview and it's a good part of the reason we chose to move to Texas on that trip. We've come many times since and never had a bad meal. Some waiters have been better than others, but that's the same anywhere. The only drawback tonight was that they didn't have the snow crab. The waiter made it sound like they never have had it, but I know he needs to be drug tested because we've loved it here many times and others have raved about it in their reviews.
