Per my father, this is the "worst food I've had in a while." Not sure where to start, so I'm just gonna spell it all out. "Daily" lunch special doesn't exist even though the menu said it does. Servers do not know what they're doing - brought a specials menu to us and then said they couldn't honor it (lol umm what!? Why'd you bring it!?). Was trying to order a drink but she took away all the menus...and the drink menu isn't on their website. Ordered a soda and never received it, but was charged for it (of course). There are better options - I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere ;) read more

This is our 3rd year coming to Orange Beach and our 3rd time eating at Docs. Their fried shrimp are big and delicious.

This was our first time visiting Docs. It won't be our last! The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was friendly and attentive to our needs! Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable. My husband and I ordered marquaritas. I had the peach pina colada, and he had the regular marquarita. We ordered the Captains platter, which was amazing. I had the pick your own 2..which I ordered crab cakes and clam strips. My son ordered a grilled cheese and fries. We then ordered the strawberry cheesecake. It was big and very tasty! It was $$, on one of the reviews. I don't mind paying a little extra for great food! I can't wait to go back next time we visit. Went here Saturday with some friends and enjoyed our meal but the service left a bit to be desired. The wait was over an hour which was not a big deal for us as it was Saturday evening and we were anticipating a wait anywhere. They give you a buzzer that will reach into the parking lot so you are able to sit in your car until it's your turn to be seated. Once seated (we sat outside), it took a while for us to get our drinks... like 25 minutes and to the point we thought someone forgot we were there. lol. It was busy so you try to show some grace but we also had to repeatedly remind the server to bring things we asked for at the time of order, that she forgot-- straws, lemon, etc. It was a little bit annoying. The server was nice, though. We overtipped... especially for the service received but wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was just an off night for her. However, when you're dropping $100+ on a dinner for two, you don't want to ask 3 times for a straw. Honestly, I'm not sure I want to ask 3 times for a straw at a $5 dinner. They could also afford to put some lighting outside. It was a great set up in terms of table placement and all, it's just that it was practically dark and hard to see anything by the time the food arrived. All in all though, the food was seasoned well, fresh and tasty. I would definitely give it another go but hopefully get better service. read more

The meals here are always good. However, this time we went near closing time, and the shrimp were not as fresh. I could tell they'd been cooked and sitting a minute. They were still tasty. But, the first time I ate there, they were amazingly delicious. I do recommend them. The staff that seated and waited on us were very nice and professional. Just go before closing. read more

Mahi Mahi was overcooked and dry. All the grandkids loved it though. Atmosphere is perfect and service was very fast.

We did not have a good experience although it is highly recommended. For our starter, we got crab claws. They were very overcooked and the meat was stuck and dry. For our entrees, we got the create your own platter with fried shrimp and fried fish. The fried shrimp was awesome. However, the fried fish had no flavor or seasoning at all. We also got crab cakes which were so spicy they were inedible. Also to note, you have to make your own cocktail sauce and they don't tell you how much ketchup or Worcestershire to put in so you just kind of have to guess and taste as you go. We sat outside and it was beautiful with live music which was nice. However the fans are strong enough to blow you out of your chair. read more

Stopped in for some lunch. I tried the Doc's Ship Wreak cocktail, i tasted more of the mix than the liquor in it... the fried shrimp and fried fish fillets were ok, not the best I've had. I guess I expected more. Maybe I'll try again for dinner or happy hour. read more

Oh my gahhhh.! Absolutely LOVED this place!! My group and I basically flipped a coin and chose to eat here... best decision we made this week!!! There was live music... a friendly atmosphere.. and the food was amazing!!! We all had a hard time getting up to leave from being so full. The menu isn't complicated, there's just enough variety for everyone to get something they will enjoy! I had a combo platter with fried shrimp and two huge fried stuffed crabs... the stuffing was definitely homemade and fresh!!! My fries were just right.. not too soft and not too crunchy!! To top it off, the cocktail sauce is made by you at the table.! I had water to drink as well as Doc's cosmo!! The others ordered a ribeye with loaded baked potato and crab cake, fried fish platter with loaded baked potato, grilled shrimp with fries, and fried shrimp platter with fries. Also, the other mixed drinks were a Texas margarita, Doc's favorite margarita, and the Deep Blue Sea Bucket!! I also had the fried crab claws for an appetizer..big and juicy! Very busy restaurant but we didn't have to wait long for our table. My husband got the create your own platter; fried shrimp, fish, clam strips, and oysters. He didn't love the clam but he hadn't really tried clam before. He said the rest of his food was very good. I don't eat seafood so I tried the 12 oz NY Strip which was only ok. I believe it had garlic butter on top which was tasty, but aside from the little bit of butter the steak didn't taste seasoned at all. We would eat there again, I would just try the chicken next time! read more

Visited the Doc's in Gulf Shores. Ordered the shrimp they were fried correctly but had no seasoning. The stuff crab was very bland with no crab and too much bread crumbs. The gumbo was basically a gravy with shrimp thrown in. I don't know who rated this business having the best fried shrimp in the world, but they need to have their taste buds checked out. Putting at least salt and pepper in the batter for the shrimp would help. Fresh Boiled shrimp should be noted on the menu that they are cold. Maybe list as cold boiled shrimp on menu. read more

Arrived about 7:40 pm. Forgot to call for reservations. About 15 minute wait. Pretty fast !!! The place is busy! The staff seam to be in a friendly mood. The food smells wonderful!! Can't wait, I'm starving now after smelling the food as we walked in. Watching the staff work I'm impressed on their speed and teamwork. Cudo's to Docs staff!! The one thing I would suggest is there was no communication between the waitress, who was awesome and the actual server who brought the food. Then there was no follow up on if everything was ok, is there anything else we can get you? So, that and the food was ordinary instead of great like usual Docs gets a 3 out of 5 but I might even raise it to a 4 because I know they're better than tonight. read more

If all you want is fried fish or fried shrimp or fried....you get the idea....it's not bad. But overall it just wasn't good. I got the fried crab claws as an appetizer at $25. All you could taste was fried breading and they were over done. Got crab cakes...they were horrible. All cake, no crab. Good atmosphere. Several Plenty of outdoor benches & games to play while waiting for a table. The wait was pretty reasonable (45min) especially considering the popularity. We had appetizers of grilled oysters & dynamite shrimp and enjoyed both of them. Main dishes included grilled mahi-mahi, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, fried clams, & crab cakes. The fried shrimp had a good breading and were good without cocktail sauce. The rest of the food was chewy/tough from being overcooked. The crab cakes are more breading than crab & covered in blackened seasonings that masked the food. This was probably a good thing bc the crabcake was spongy & otherwise flavorless. It's not a place we'll go again, but I give it 3 stars just bc of the atmosphere & appetizers and hopes that maybe it was an off night. read more

If you love salty fried shrimp then you will love this place. Unfortunately none of us liked the extremely salty shrimp that being all 3 of us. Crab cakes, hush puppies, and loaded baked potato were good. The service was also good and quick. Food came out hot which is always a plus. read more

I do hate to say it, but I think Doc's may be living more on reputation than quality. There are good things that speak to the many 5-star ratings ~ efficient seating system, enthusiastic hostess staff (though our waitress appeared bored and weary.) Doc's seems to be an Orange Beach staple. Packed parking lot, waiting is common, large, full dining room. We were seated promptly (see efficient seating system.) If you're looking for fried seafood, likely you'll be happy here. Darling daughter ordered the fried shrimp, The serving is plentiful with cole slaw and hush puppies. Hush puppies are tasty (these are a tad sweet). It's hard to get fried wrong. I ordered the grilled mahi. Seasonings were good, but fish was overcooked. Sad for a restaurant that proclaims its seafood specialty. It may be wrong to expect perfection, but alas, I do. On this occasion, Doc's missed the mark. read more

Came here yesterday with a friend and only had to wait about 15 minutes. Staff were very nice, and food was amazing! We ordered 4 dozen oysters but they always give 1 or 2 extra oysters so we actually had 4.5 dozen! The oysters were amazing and shucked very cleanly. We also shared a bowl of gumbo and it was awesomely loaded. The wait staff were very nice and the atmosphere was lively! read more

I had the Royal Red Shrimp. I don't normally eat veggies from boils, but I decided to taste the corn and potatoes. They weren't seasoned at all. STILL -- the shrimp hit the spot. They are following COVID guidelines, but we still felt a little uneasy about sitting inside. Thankfully this location has a large patio with fans and misters. Alright, so here's what you really came here to read. The cons: 1. Everything is fried. That's great for the people who love fried, but not so great for those of us who would like other options. For instance: we really wanted crab claws, but fried is the only way Doc's serve them. Of course we knew this going in, but the lack of flexibility in how dishes are prepared was a little disheartening. 2. My friend ordered a piña colada and received an icy of sorts. Awkward. Thankfully the waitress was kind enough to take it off the tab. I don't know that I would go back due to so much fried food, but it's nice to know that it's always an option! read more

Wasn't sure about this place considering some of the previous reviews. However, I am glad I tried it. Fried shrimp was fantastic and fresh. The service was great. Our waitress showed us how to make homemade cocktail sauce using the ingredients left on the table. The wife was happy, so that makes me happy, lol. All joking aside, the overall experience was fantastic. It's worth a try when visiting Gulf Shores. read more

I had been to the original location before, but this was the first time I'd been to this location. It lacks the charm of the original location, but it's a nice place. We didn't have to wait, and the service was excellent. I had the shrimp platter, like I always do. It was no different from the original location: excellent! The batter is light and flavorful, and the shrimp is tasty. My wife had grilled mahi mahi with baked potato and cole slaw. Both of us thought the Cole slaw as a little too sweet.
