Docs special (we think that's what it was called) - sliced brisket with provolone and sautéed onions.
    Rebecca B.

Been here a few times and the food is always delicious! Yesterday hubs and I took one of our kids and her boyfriend and it did not disappoint! Hubs and one of kids got the sandwich (Doc's Special maybe) that had sliced brisket, provolone and sautéed onions with a side. Brisket was perfectly cooked and they both enjoyed. Other kid got the half nachos with pulled pork and really liked it. I got the Smokehouse burger which was topped with cheese, pulled pork and onion rings. So good! And they have seasoned fries which are my favorite! And we got the add on of 5 smoked wings. Impulse purchase we didn't need but so good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was good, and the atmosphere is as expected.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Define recommend but next time we might think about splitting a meal - portions are definitely generous!

Pork steak, Mac & Mac and Cheese, and corn casserole.

We're from S. AL and we eat at Doc's when we're in town. Pork steak is a must try, but everything we've eaten has been delicious. Staff is very kind and service is fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating is always nice and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The food here was really good--tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can tell they know what they're doing when it comes to barbecue. I'd definitely come back for the brisket alone. That said, we were a little surprised by the wait. It took about 20-30 minutes to get our food after ordering at the counter, which felt long for this kind of setup. It wasn't a huge deal, but worth noting if you're coming in hungry or on a tight schedule. Also, the drinks aren't self service, so you have to flag someone down to get a refill or ask for water. Overall, great food and worth the visit--just be ready for a bit of a wait.

    Pork steak sandwich

My husband and I both ordered the pork steak. It was so tender and delicious! We also shared a bread pudding and were not disappointed.

Combo plate with burned ends, pulled pork, baked beans, sweet potato fries, cucumber salad.

    Any gluten free options?

All meats are gluten free except beef. Our beef rub has worsteshire powder in it. But it’s very minimal

    Do they serve adult beverages?

Hmm. we used their catering. Their menu says no alcohol, but I feel like I stood at a bar to get my order. Maybe someone else can help.

They did a great job and the portions were so large, I got two meals out of my Ribs and Brisket Combo Platter. Brisket was fork tender and the Ribs were fall off the bone tender. Both were good, but my fave was the Ribs. Edley's is an order at the counter establishment. Once you order, you're given a table marker number. When your food is ready, a runner will bring it to you. If you're a soda or tea drinker, you'll order them with your food. If you prefer an adult beverage, you order them separately at the bar. I aways sit at the bar any way, so it's easy to order a beer while waiting for my food. Edley's now has their very own, Hazy IPA made by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company. I gave it 4 out of 5 Stars on my Untappd. I liked that a local STL brewery was the one who made it for Edley's. My Combo Platter came with two sides and I chose, Baked Beans and Red Potato Salad. I have always said, if you're eating BBQ, you've got have a side of Baked Beans. Another of my crazy rules is, Potato Salad must be made with Red Potatoes. So when I saw that they advertised their potato salad with red potatoes, I knew I had to have it. The Baked Beans had chunks of brisket in it, which added extra flavor. Even though the potato salad was made with red ones, it needed more white pepper and some more seasonings to make it kick. In addition to the two sides, the platter came with a piece of Jalapeño Cornbread. I'm a jalapeño addict, so it was a winner for me. It was moist and had plenty of little pieces of jalapeños to give it the perfect kick. The young lady at the counter was very perky and made the ordering process easy and smooth. My bartender was friendly and hustled taking care of bar customers and guest who showed up at the take-out window. I arrived around 11:30 AM and soon after, the restaurant filled up inside and on the patio. I was surprised how busy the take-out window was. I guess some folks wanted an easy Memorial Day, too.

They told us it's counter service only, and to head to the opposite side of the dining room (where the exit is located, not the entrance). OK, annoying, but no big deal. I had looked at the menu ahead of time, and we chose this place in great part because they had fish. I knew I wanted the catfish (I'm pescatarian), but it turned out they were out. So we left. There was nothing else I could eat besides the French fries and maybe the slaw. The atmosphere felt nice, though, while we were there. That gets a star.

The burnt ends were the star of the show, so juicy! My brisket was a tad dry. They also put the sauce in the fridge so it's cold, but there might not be a way to avoid that food-safety wise. Their wings are also really good. The mac-n-cheese side is good. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food out to you. The only other thing I don't love is there's two rooms, the main room and a room off to the side, and especially if you are in the side room, it feels like you are crammed in there with a ton of other people and sometimes it gets really loud. When it's nice enough, we prefer to sit outside as they have a few picnic benches off to the side that are covered.

Even though I am thrilled to have one on the IL side of the river, it's a half hour drive to enjoy. The other day I was running errands and shopping in Edwardsville. I made it a point to do it around the lunch hour, so I could enjoy an calzone. I ordered at the counter as you do and lucky for me, the cashier was patient with me. As I ordered, I kept reading the menu and changed my mind two times and finally stayed with my third choice. Having a love of jalapeños, Pancho Villa was my final choice. Pancho Villa not only gave my fresh jalapeños, it was also filled with red peppers, smoked cheddar, Mozzarella and the meat was Chorizo prepared in Smoked Chili Oil. Yum-Yum and no heartburn. For dipping or spreading on top, I was given a cup of Queso. One nice thing about SOTS, is they offer adult beverages. They have an excellent selection of local craft beers and wines to pair with your calzone. I paired mine with, Pale Ale from Schlafly. The dining room is clean and crisp. It's done in an industrial style. They have regular tables and a few hightop tables, so you can choose which one is best for you. On the tables you'll find linen napkins with reusable flatware. If you can eat an entire calzone, I am impressed. For those of us who cannot, next to the soda machine is a stack of eco-friendly to-go boxes to put your leftovers in, to take home.

The fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheeses paired with the hot honey and pepperoni exploded with flavor. My only disappointment was the inner crust. The outer rim crust was very crispy, but the inner was soft and limp due to the excessive grease from the flavorful pepperoni. I guess that is something I just need to deal with for a tasty lunch pizza. My other choice was, the Apple Gorgonzola Salad. Wow. Double Wow! This has to be the best salad I have ever had. It was a delightful mix of, spinach, granny smith apple, gorgonzola, sun-dried cranberries, candied pecans, all topped with a delicious maple cider vinaigrette. I will be back for the large version and a glass of Pino Grigio as a dinner. As my usual, I sat at the bar. My adult beverage of choice, was a Peel Summer Lager. I may be going back to fill my growler, for the upcoming holiday weekend. The restaurant has a contemporary feel, but the acoustics make it a loud environment. I didn't mind the laughter and loud conversations, it was the yelling and crying toddlers that made me cringe. Service was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed watching the bartenders use their mixologist skills preparing all the cocktails. It pleased me to see they offer "hooks under the bar". That's a small detail that makes me smile.

It's one of a very few places in the area that isn't a chain, isn't just burgers and pizza, and also isn't pretentious or overpriced. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable. We've been there at least ten times and only once was the service slow. It was an anomaly because they're usually really on top of things. Ambiance is a friendly, but upscaled downtown cafe/bar place that is perfect for taking out-of-towners or a fun brunch with the ladies. (They have a separate brunch menu on Saturdays!) I don't drink, so I can't comment on their drink selections. I'm taking away a star because the parking situation is annoying, especially during construction. There is street parking or a huge parking lot in the back. However, the back parking lot is a terrible hodgepodge of concrete and asphalt and a gazillion potholes and no super clear direction on how to get to the restaurant. Some signage would go a long way in helping customers to not only find parking, but once parked, to them navigate back to the little crevice where the back door is located. The back porch is located behind a larger portion of the structure and you can't see it from the parking lot. Additionally, if you have anyone in your party with mobility issues, it's next-to-impossible to park near enough to the door to make a difference. The handicapped parking spots are 40 yards away from the back door. All that said, we will def go back because there's nothing else like it in the area.
