The vibe of this place is 5 stars. Really well decorated, great windows and seating is nice too. It's not a huge spot, but very comfortable and great ambiance. It's attached to Paradisea, so you know it's gonna be pricey. Most coffee drinks were ~$5-7 and even the TEA was $5. Most expensive bag of tea I've ever seen - thought that was insanely high for a pre-made bag of tea. My friend got it, but I honestly couldn't. I'd say $3-3.50 is the usual in the area. Hopefully it's some high-end tea brand, but I still couldn't swallow the tag. Service was fine, donuts ($3.50) were OK. I wouldn't call them gourmet, but they were well-fried, although the glazing was too thick and sweet for my taste. The cakey donuts were smaller, but haven't tried. I'll definitely come back to try more of their other offerings. I wanna support local, so this will get my vote over the Dunkins in LJ and the Starbucks down the street. But come ready to spend. read more

This is such a cute, relevantly new donut spot in bird rock. It is in a great area right in the village. It is located on the right side of Paradisea which is all attached and you can walk from one to the other while inside. There is seating both inside and outside which provides nice options for whatever mood you are in. They had a nice selection of coffee/tea/lattes, we got there close to closing time so they only had a couple options left for donuts but that was our fault. We ended up ordering a sprinkle donut and it was delicious, nice and fluffy but dense at the same time. We sat down to enjoy our coffees, however there was plenty of people who came in while we were there to order a cup to go. I would definitely check it out if you are in the area! read more

My fiancé and I love going to paradisea so when we had an opportunity to go here in the morning we definitely jumped at it. The dodo fog was amazing! It had the perfect amount of sweetness, creaminess from the Oatmilk and a subtle licorice taste with a hint of vanilla. Everything that you want when you order earl grey tea! The granola yogurt bowl is a must! The house made granola had the perfect textures of chewiness and crunchiness. The dates and fruit added the perfect amount of sweetness. I have yet to try their breakfast sandwiches but I'm sure they're amazing especially if they use the same focaccia bread that they serve at paradisea! My problem is with the donuts... I ordered a chocolate glazed and maple glazed yeast donut. For 3.50 a donut I expect to have a fluffy, light and airy donut with a slight chew to it. What we got was a very dense donut to the point where I wasn't sure if they gave me a cake style donut at first glance. The donut itself retained some of the oil flavor that was off putting and almost tasted as if it was a day old. The frosting saved the donut from being inedible. A nice dark chocolate ganache and a not too sweet maple frosting. I don't know if it was under proofed and left in the oil for too long but whatever they did they need to improve on their yeast donut recipe! With "donuts" being in this cute restaurants name, I expect a lot more. read more

Very trendy and well decorated space connected to the paradisea restaurant serving an assortment of coffee/drinks and donuts. They have about 5 flavors of cake donuts and one yeast option that are gone once they run out. We tried the devils food and cranberry streusel. Both were really good, the devils food was super chocolatey and rich with some type of chocolate ganache going through the donut. The cranberry streusel was the opposite with a sweet cranberry taste and the streusel on top was definitely my favorite part. Only change would be that these donuts would be amazing still warm! read more

Dodo Birds used to be my favorite neighborhood cafe to visit for a treat on the weekends. I visited this morning for the first time since the new year and will not be going back. The quality and taste of the food has changed and I was so disappointed. I ordered a burger and passionfruit donut and could hardly eat either. The bun while toasted on the inside was completely cold on the outside; the patty had no seasoning. FYI for anyone with allergies - the fries are duck fat fried. This isn't indicated on the menu and there is no option to get vegan fries, which is also a new change. The donuts used to be light and fluffy with a really nice thick fruity glaze. They're now very dry/unflavorful and the "glaze" layer was so thin it flakes off when you bite into the donut. Not worth it imo. The inside is still really cute, but it if you're picky about your food and donuts, it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. read more

We live nearby and have added Dodo to our rotation for bone broth and the occasional donut. The ladies at the front are great and the space itself is cutely decorated with lots of seating both inside and outside, which we love. One big area of improvement could be adding one or two gluten-free donuts to the menu. We're also always surprised to walk by and see it closed on Monday and Tuesday. I'm so glad this place is in the neighborhood. I go their on a regular basis to get a coffee and occasional donut. Its the kind of place the staff knows your name. I like the donuts due to them not having an overwhelming sugar taste. After drinking Dark Horse coffee, which is what they use, its hard to go back to any other. The place has great ambiance and I rarely wait long in line. The restrooms are very clean and they have outdoor seating with the ocean view off to the side. I hope they never close. read more

This used to be one of our favorite spots to get coffee, donuts and the Paradisea burger. Since Paradisea got rid of their burger after getting their new chef, which was our favorite in all of San Diego, we were happy to see they still had it at Dodo Birds. Unfortunately, the burger is just not the same as it was. The patty was a little thicker, had no crust and absolutely no seasoning. No salt. No Pepper. Nothing. The cheese was so thin you couldn't even taste it. The french fries used to be thin and crispy, but are now much thicker. There used to be a good variety of donuts, but none looked appetizing. It was mostly chocolate, plain and vanilla. So I skipped them but my wife got the passion fruit which used to be her favorite. It was so dry. There was hardly any glaze. She took one bite and left the rest. The coffee milkshake was just as good as it has been. Since Paradisea got rid of their burger we haven't been back and won't be going back to Dodo Birds. I understand with a new chef they make changers but some things need to remain. read more

I was eager to try Dodo Birds after seeing them on social media. I went there thinking it was a donut bar, not so much. The donuts displayed are in a small counter case. There are only a few to choose from and the flavors are ok. The lady helping me as not very friendly either. I didn't know how things worked with ordering and she said well the menu is right here...very exasperated. Also, the door to get into the store is right where you order it is a tight squeeze. I ordered a coffee and a donut. I was really disappointed. I think the place is very cute. Bird Rock needs more fun places...yet the food was so so. Maybe they are trying too hard? read more

This is my new favorite place to stop before work. I love their donuts! I bought some for my whole office. I think this is definitely worth the trek if you can make it. No, they aren't making me post this but I did read the other comments before posting and I honestly don't know how they had a different experience than I did but I've never had anything but exceptional service especially when I'm running late and absolutely delicious donuts and matcha lattes. Dodo bird donuts are delicious! Recently had the matcha jelly and it was perfect...definitely not something I've had before! Their coffee is amazing and you have to try their matcha lemonade.
