Today I brought my Bichon Frise to Doggy Zen Den for grooming. When I came to pick up my dog, the grooming fee was $100 + $8.25 tax = $108.25. The staff asked me to provide my complete credit card information to be manually entered into their computer, including the CVV security code on the back of the card. For security reasons, I declined. I then offered to pay with cash -- they refused. I asked to pay via POS card reader -- they said they don't have one. I offered to pay by check -- refused. PayPal -- also refused. I took my dog home and they said they would contact the owner to see if they could accept a check. Is this normal business practice for a pet grooming shop? I have never encountered anything like this. I was willing to pay and offered multiple payment methods, all of which were rejected. I am still waiting to hear back from the owner." read more

Only relating to their dog grooming which is the only service I have had from this company: I would not recommend this business. Our mini Goldendoodle has been to doggie zen den on several occasions. Here are the good points: 1) they are usually extremely available. We can generally get an appointment within a week of calling which is a huge plus. 2) the staff is friendly and I have never encountered any rudeness or inappropriate behavior. Onto the negatives. We get a decent groom maybe 50% of the time and that might be generous. Because we occasionally get a great groom, we keep going back because they are available and close to the house which is super helpful considering we have a newborn to contend with at home. We are usually asked if we want the same groomer as last time and they schedule accordingly when they are available. Based on my experience, that generally doesn't end up being the case. Our pup had a fantastic groom last time, and we just took her again this weekend to be groomed supposedly by the same person that did an awesome job and our pup looks terrible. Her neck is longer than the rest of her body. The top of her head is pointed. Two of her nails look like they weren't trimmed on each paw. Her hair on her back legs near her rump are two different lengths. It's just not good. Maybe she just didn't cooperate with the groomer but nothing was mentioned by staff and she's small so it's not immediately apparent when they hand you the leash. It feels rude to do a full inspection at pick up for a professional business that you are paying for a professional job. In the past I have called to complain, under that circumstance because it looked like she had only been bathed, and were charged full price to fix it with another groom. We recently started going to DZD about 6 months ago since it's closer to our house. My wife called the day before (2days ago) to confirm appointment and go over details. She specifically stated for our 22 lbs doodle to receive a sanitary trim ONLY and no face or body cut. The next day when I took our doodle in for his appt., upon walking in the front door was not acknowledged or greeted. Our dog immediately became shaky and scared. Perhaps his previous experience went bad and we didn't know it because he loves people and is always happy to see us at pickup. I waited at the front desk until someone acknowledged me which happened to be a young man. He then asked if I had an appointment, checked and confirmed it, grabbed our dog without greeting him and walked him straight to the back. I began going over specifics with the lady (short hair) who was at the computer about NOT TRIMMING our dogs face or body. Just a bath, private areas, and inside ears. She NEVER once looked at me, kept her back to me, and just kept nodding ok as I was going over details. So I left. After the appt was complete and they were going back to get our dog, the short haired lady began to check me out and mentioned the total would be $97. I was confused because it was only a sanitary trim for a 22lb dog. When I asked about it, she mentioned it was a mini grooming with face and sanitary area . I knew it was not right because I specifically told her no face trim as she nodded "ok" . My wife is adamant about not grooming his face because she does that herself. The lady immediately got defensive, overruled my specific notes upon arrival, and claimed she went with what my wife said the day before. I called my wife to double check because I know she wouldn't have said that. My wife was upset and said she definitely did NOT say that. The lady then proceeded to offer a $5 dollar discount for accidentally trimming our dogs face. Trimmed his face so short he looks like a poodle (I know it's only hair and will grow back) but we will not be returning to this place bc of the customer service. Terrible customer service, my words didn't matter when explaining, and absolutely no love towards my dog upon arrival. This really sucks because the groomer Tomas is really good,we love how he follows the instructions given, and our dog always looks good. Hopefully at some point he will go somewhere else and we will follow him. read more

Fortunately I only left my dog here for a week...she came home looking like she lost at least 10 pounds! I wrote very clear instructions about what to feed her and she was only getting half of her food every day. When I called back to ask why that I was bringing so much food back with me they said that they didn't understand the instructions. They have you fill out an intake form & it's clear as a bell. Their groomer made a deep cut on my pup's leg. I wasn't available at that time and so they proceeded to take him to the emergency vet. Then after a week when my pup needs a followup visit they declined the responsibility. I told them the whole situation started from their end, and they should be responsible for my dog's recovery process. During the whole conversation, I could tell that The manager Sarah is not willing to listen to me, and keep continuing to deny. This is really disappointing and consider myself having bad luck. We had been taking our 12 year old golden here for grooming here for a while now. We liked the fact that they did not make him wait in a cage but instead they did the groom start to finish and he was ready in an hour. Unfortunately the last couple grooms took longer and we weren't sure why. Our last groom was this month and it was a traumatic experience. We dropped our dog off at 11:00 and at 12:40 we went in to see if he was done. They told us they didn't call because he was still fan drying. (He doesn't like the blow dryer) They then informed us that there was an incident that occurred and they had to stop the groom. They said that his groomer went home after that. Our groomer never called us nor did the business call to notify us of the incident. They said that at 11:30ish our dog was very stressed and his nose started bleeding and he was panting and foaming at the mouth!! I called the owner who said it is protocol to suspend the groom in these situations. She also said they do a pre groom before the bath and that he showed stress while drying. This is all very suspicious since they say it happened at 11:30 and he was supposedly drying at 12:40 when we walked in. We get him "shaved" so there is not a lot of drying needed. Why would you not call the owner at the time of distress? Why would you let a stressed dog sit another hour + fan drying? We got him home and he was partially shaved, he did not have his feet or nails trimmed, he did not smell like he had had a bath. I don't believe or trust this place and we will not be bringing him to this place ever again! We did take him to pet co a few days later for a nail trim and they finished his groom at no charge and with absolutely no problems! Thank you PetCo. read more

WORST GROOMING PLACE!!! UNPROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES!!! Took my golden doodle in for grooming twice and was always overcharged. Went back and spoke to a skinny guy Michael that works at the front desk, and he argued with me that with his years of professional experience, my dog is 65 lbs no less ( spolier : my dog is 42 lbs) I asked if they have a scale but the skinny guy said no but he is definitely 65 lbs or more. Cool. They don't have a scale but the price is based on weight ?? He was even nice enough to show me a completely different breed dog that weighs 38lbs to prove to me that he was right. I had to go to Hollywood Feed and weight my dog ( which is 42 lbs), drove back only for him to yell at me again that either the scale is broken or the video I took was fake ( rigidity : refusal to admit that he was wrong ) I had to run to his vet three times to get all the necessary paper work that he asked for just to prove that my dog is only 42lbs. We used to love this place, always nice, quick, communicative, and friendly. Something happened over the years, new management or something, but the place has gone down hill. Imagine taking your dog several times and then they forget everything about them. Adding bows when they shouldn't, no notifications about cuts or razor burns, or just simply not letting you know her appointment is over. All of this over the past few visits adds up in wasted time, vet visits, and uncomfortable pups. All we got after the last incident was one call, the time before only a 25% discount. Do not take your dog here! They did a bad job on my dog even though I showed a picture and told them exactly what I wanted. They also overcharged me and automatically added a tip to my bill. Avoid this place. We took Royce there for a temperament test. Royce was with these people all day and when the staff called they stated he wasn't aggressive, there were no issues other than he "was rude" so he failed their test. This is ridiculous. Royce is mild mannered and has never lost his temper... he's actually a good dog. I'm not sure I've met a polite dog and no training was offered in place of his "rude" behavior. I personally was not rude to the staff so I can't imagine how a place can stay in business by rejecting dogs (new customers) by saying they're rude. Laughable. read more

After being a loyal customer for over 3 years, today when I picked up my poodle from her grooming appointment the employee at the front desk told me I am no longer allowed to bring my dog back to doggie zen den again. I was confused, and when I asked why, the employee responded that since I missed my scheduled appointment on Wednesday and that was the second time In 3 years, that the policy is they will no longer serve any client who misses more than one appointment. I have always gotten a confirmation reminder texts and I did not receive one this time. I even showed the employee the text message thread. It was the day before thanksgiving so it completely slipped my mind. I had zero issue paying the missed appointment fee..I asked to see where the policy is written because online and in reminder texts it states a $25 fee will be charged. There is nothing that states a client who misses 2 appointments will be told they are not allowed or welcome to come back. The employee insisted this is the policy for all clients. Then they told me "Well, Tomas (the groomer) doesn't want to groom my dog anyways anymore".When they told me this I said why would you make up a policy excuse and not just tell me he doesn't want to do the groom anymore. The employee once again stated and confirmed that the policy of kicking out clients is true. I asked why would as a business they would kick out all clients after 2 missed appointments. The employee was extremely rude and unprofessional when I asked to see the policy as it isn't written anywhere. The employee became more mad each time I asked. At the drop off the employee was nice and didn't mention anything about my dog not being allowed to come back. We had taken our golden retriever here Leo to get a trim after receiving lots of recommendations to go here, especially for Golden Retriever cuts. I had even made a note for the groomer Tomas to lightly touch up his tail and feathers, and to just trim the sanitary area. We got the text Leo was ready to be picked up, and his tail is cut EXTREMELY short and his front and back tail feathers are gone. His looks nothing like a golden retriever tail since it so short and his butt is blocky also. I was upset once seeing him because his groom was nothing like I had asked for and the front receptionist stated the groomer had left already for the day, so I was unable to speak with him and they stated there is nothing they can do. The haircut was overall patchy and I wish they could have just read the notes to see it was never to be a cut, just a light trim or they could have even called if they weren't sure. They didn't charge for the groom due to the miscommunication but I would never recommend this place for grooming let alone for golden retrievers. read more

This review is for their 8 week puppy training course. They were super awesome!! We learned heel, sit, down, go to bed, watch me, wait and stay. They also taught us a few neat tricks when my pup had already learned the trick. They were not only helpful in class but also outside of class. When I e-mailed them about my concern that my puppy was playing too rough, they immediately took action. They gave her attention and told me how to correct it the behavior immediately. They also gave me tips and tricks on how to get rid of the extra energy. Shiba are super high energy. I had Amber Leonard and Liza Bruce as my instructors. At one point Amber told me that Shibas may get possessive of their food, so I when I feed her, I should pet her while she eats near the jaw. They had a well planned course - each week was a different command. If I had already done the trick, I was allowed to skip it until the next command that I needed. On a side note - I think it should also be the owner's responsibility to spot any issues with their pup. I understand the instructors have a lot of puppies to watch over and cannot individually give the puppies their attention. So the owners should weigh the responsibility of paying attention to their puppies and bringing any concerning issues to the trainers. The instructors would pay full attention once they are notified and will tell you any suggestions on how to improve. I would love to take their classes again when I have another puppy in the future. Update 5/30/2021: The day after posting my review I received a call from the owner of Doggie Zen Den who was very understanding and apologetic to my situation. She even offered to cover the vet bill for my dog which I didn't expect and really, really appreciated. She explained that they had hired new staff to help with the upcoming summer rush and that the new staff I had spoke to on the original day was still in training and wasn't aware of the proper procedure in my situation (which would be to refer me to the owner). Based on my phone call with the owner I can tell that she really cares about her business, employees, and most importantly her customers. So my rating would be 5 stars for the customer service I received from the owner, cancelling out the initial one star review I gave earlier, bumping overall score to 3 stars. 5/25/2021: Took my dog here for the first time for grooming since it's closer to home. A few hours after picking her up I noticed that my dog's eyes were super swollen and she could barely keep her eyes open and with a bunch of mucus coming out her eyes. I called in asking what happened and what shampoo they used because obviously my dog was having an allergic reaction. They said that they used a standard tearless puppy shampoo. They said that it couldn't be their product and that I could've upgraded her to a sensitive skin shampoo (which I obviously would've done if I known that my dog would have a reaction like this) and then just told me to contact my vet. So on top of paying for the grooming I had to pay $240 ER vet visit for my dog to get her eyes flushed and prescribed eye medication for the next 7 days. I've never had this happen to my dog before with a groomer and the fact that they made it seem like it was my problem is very upsetting and poor customer service. read more

I brought my dog here for the first time a few weeks ago. She's a 70lb lab and usually takes at least over an hour to bathe and trim her nails as she hates the dryer and her nails being trimmed. Ive taken her to many places before and that's the average time it takes. From dropping her off to picking her up it was only 40-45 mins. I paid for a nail trim and confirmed getting her nails trimmed twice. Once I got home I realized her nails weren't touched at all. I also noticed she was not as fluffy as she normally is after a bath. This made me a bit concerned whether or not she even got a bath in the first place. After a few days of looking at her coat I'm convinced she was never bathed at all and was just sprayed with cologne...I won't be coming back sadly. read more

I brought my teacup morkie here for his first official grooming. I had originally went somewhere else but all they did was trim around his face and nails and charged me the same for what Sarah did. Sarah is amazing. I trusted her to do what she felt was best for Teddy. His body hair looked really scraggly and I wanted to trim the whole thing and also his face. We also opted for nail trimming and shampoo and conditioning. When we picked him up he was better than I had imagined! I think he actually looks cuter than when I dropped him off! We've been bringing our 2 dogs here for several years-- they're both relatively small dogs; one weighs 10lbs, the other is 14lbs. A week ago, we took them both in for grooming. When they were released from the groomer's care, our 14lb shih tzu mix was limping and refused to eat or walk-- she is normally extremely active and loves food, so it was strange. Additionally, her eyes were extremely goopy, and watered nonstop. Upon visiting the vet the next day for an emergency checkup, we discovered that she had suffered bruising on her back and her spine was lightly sprained. She had also been exposed to an irritant that was affecting her eyes. She was prescribed eye medication, pain killers, and a back brace. We contacted Doggie Zen Den inquiring as to what could of caused this while our dogs were in their care and they evaded any accountability. We recommend not bringing your pets here-- this was the first time this has happened to us, but when it comes to our animals, one time is all it takes. Our shih tzu appears to be recovering well on her medications, hopefully the injuries she suffered do not lead to future issues with her health. read more

Used this location for the first time. Customer service was superb and the the location was very orderly and clean. I have two cocker spaniels and took them in for grooming and they smell great. A bit disappointed in the grooming and I feel as quickly as the process was finished, there was little attention to all the details. Cut is not as close as we had hoped but also, one is a bit chopped up in her cut. Truly feel I didn't get what was asked for. Based on their service if 10 was best and 1 was poorest, I'd give them a 5 at best. read more

If you ask how your dog did after a full day of daycare and they answer, "Your dog did great. He always does great." Be concerned. I was so proud of my 2 year old rescue for always doing "great" at daycare but after receiving a call the other day that he was a problem during drop off (he embarrassingly snapped at a stranger who put her hands toward his face to pet - a big no-no btw when coming into contact with an unknown dog or cat regardless of the breed). The staff said nothing about the incident that they witnessed. A shocking surprise. I received a call a couple of hours later that he wasn't welcome there anymore because of that and because it had occurred on different occasions as well. It had? Because I didn't know that my friendly white lab (who doesn't like strange hands coming at him) did anything while there. I was always told otherwise. Now understand, I always want to know if there is a problem. I am an extremely proactive pet parent. But it is truly frustrating when i'm told he's always "great" when there are obviously problems that i need to be made aware of. My dog does great at all pet friendly enviroments like pet stores, pet friendly restaurants, and such. It was only during the drop off at day care that my dog got a little snappy, for lack of a better word. Then again, when out with my dog most people have the common sense to ask, "May i pet your dog?" I work in the dog & cat rescue field and this daycare came well regarded, i won't deny that. I think though that the staff needs to be upfront with the pet parents. All of them. I need to work with my dog so he does well during drop offs. I'm upset that the staff never told me, the one who pays them, that my dog was one of the problem dogs in their care. Being told when he is no longer welcome isn't fair to him. Perhaps in the future after Doggie Zen Den staff gain some experience they can approach the situation differently, "We noticed your dog behaves this way____, may i suggest doing this so he can continue his time at daycare and be the best dog he can be." read more

I needed to board my dog while I went out of town. I was really nervous as my dog is a rescue and has had a hard life and is extremely timid of new people. My wife and I visited several places and were just very impressed with the people at Doggie Zen Den. I felt comfortable leaving my dog there. My dog seemed to have a great time and I will certainly go back there next time I need a place to keep my dog. It's not cheap but that was OK as my dog is my child and I want them to be in a place a trust. read more

They listen and watch carefully and make sure every pet is cared for and has a wonderful play day and boarding experience!!! I am moving but plan to bring my puppy here even after we move because of how wonderful day have been to us. As a working "mom," to my 3 year old lab mix who has lots of energy, I knew when she was just a puppy that she would need social interaction during the day that I couldn't give her. Coming home after a long day at work, after having to potentially leave her in a crate for 9+ hours just wasn't an option for her or for me. So, after doing a little research, I checked out Doggie Zen Den and she has gone just about every weekday since (2+ years). She is a "regular," and she LOVES it at the Zen Den! She whimpers with excitement as the car approaches the parking lot, and she runs in with such happiness, I sometimes wonder if she prefers Doggie Zen Den to my company :) I also rely on the fabulous team at Zen Den to look after my girl when I go out of town, sometimes just for one night for business travel or, recently, for 8 nights. I am always confident that she is having fun, being looked after with care and concern, and that she is PLAYING! I also know she has learned how to relax and soak up the sun outside and just enjoy the company of the other dogs and humans who she has gotten to know and is so comfortable with. I am certain every night she sleeps there she is sleeping like a baby in her suite because of all the interaction and play she has during the day. And, since there are often photos posted of the dogs on the Facebook page, I can check in and see her cute face while I am out of town. I would recommend this to anybody who thinks their dog would benefit from human and dog interaction and socialization while their "human" is at work all day, simply out running errands, and certainly for boarding while out of town. read more

My husband and I are officially huge fans of doggie zen den! We enrolled our 3 month old lab in puppy kindergarten which is 7 classes for an amazing price! After our first class, our puppy knew "leave it" and we went home knowing exactly what we needed to do with our puppy to generalize it to our household. We also just loved that she was able to socialize with other puppies in class with supervision from 3 trainers in one room. We were also so impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, knowledge of the trainers (esp. Katie) and friendliness of the entire staff. We plan to keep using doggie zen den for not only puppy kindergarten but more training and socialization for our dog throughout the years. read more

I have 3 furbabies and took them all to Sarah and they looked so adorable!!! It was their first time with a new groomer in the past 6 years. My little peek-a-poo is really tiny and usually fusses when he gets his nails done. She gave him extra loving and he did so well. My Husky has had a crazy shedding season this year and Sarah got sooo much fur off her and she looked so beautiful and whitened. And my little ShihTzu just loves being groomed but she had such a fun time in the day care offered! I love that my pups don't have to be crated while they are being groomed. The lady who was watching the smaller doggie room was holding my 2 little ones taking turns since they were a little nervous their first grooming here. Doggie Zen Den is a great place for daycare. They take such good care of our goldendoodle. She starts barking at me to get her out of the car when we pull into the parking lot. She runs up to the door and knows exactly where to go once she's inside. It is so sweet to watch. The staff are all so kind and know my dog by name when she walks in (without reservations!). They keep the amount of dogs in each group smaller than other daycares I researched and really seem to watch out for the dogs. I would highly recommend this as a great place for daycare.
