We were having trouble with several of our Marvin exterior doors locking and opening. I called Dolan's service department as they are a local dealer for Marvin doors and windows. They gave me a repair date in two working days. Ted arrived on time and gave me a call when his was on his way. He repaired the doors quickly and cleaned up after he was done. Good job!! A high 4 for sure! Plan to visit again. Bought some sheets of 4x8 from Dolan's as Lowe's didn't have exactly what I needed. I dropped by spur of the moment and was pleased by the prompt service and friendly service and advice I received. Pick up was even easier as they guided my SUV to where the wood was at. I did have to assist the guy in loading the wood into my vehicle, but no big deal vs. when I go to Lowe's I have to do it all myself if I don't have a friend around. Prices are consistent with other big box retailers. Some pieces appear cheaper while others are more expensive. I have a custom order that I need filled (cuts too) son, so if they do it to perfection they'll get the coveted 5 stars. PRO TIP: Know what the hell you want and/or have a 1/2 way decent idea what you want. This will make ordering a lot quicker and you'll get better advice too. read more

I went to the desk and asked for the wood I wanted. A salesman with a computer quoted me a price. I got the distinct impression from the way he kept saying "let me see what I can do" that everyone gets a different price. The redwood was unbelievably exhorbitant and I changed my mind, got fir instead. Then I waited with my receipt for someone to actually deliver the wood. A line of customers formed, all waiting. Staff kept walking by, ignoring us. I asked if I was in the right spot and was told "yeah, he just needs to get back from his lunch break." Then I remembered why I just go to Lowes where redwood is only slightly more expensive and I can pick the pieces and load them myself. I really wish I could say I had a better experience at this small local business. It seems to be one of those places that doesn't want homeowners to walk in and would prefer to just do business with builders and contractors. read more

Great staff, poor management. While looking for an exterior vent for garage makeup air, an unsecured attic vent fell off a shelf above me and a corner hit my forehead 1" above my right eye. Dumb luck that I'm not blind in one eye. Terrific. I had to walk out to the yard office to ask for a bandage. I guess the staff was just a little too busy. Anyway, I asked for the manager to report the dangerous storage of sheet metal pieces. She was apparently too busy on a call. I waited 10 minutes and left. Who knows if they still have this unbelievably careless and potentially catastrophic condition corrected? Is this just an example of careless management or the tip of an iceberg that will effect your next project? YOU DECIDE. read more

I'm so glad I found Dolan's, and Raul to help me ordering Milgard windows and a sliding glass door with blinds-between-glass for my condo. Dolan's prices were great, and Raul's attention to detail was reassuring and his patience comforting. I was very impressed that Raul raised some questions about the requirements of the HOA in San Rafael where I live and whether the windows would be within their requirements, which made it possible for me to work with the installer and make sure they did. The installer was recommended by Raul, a contractor with an established business and reputation for excellent work who Raul knew would do a great job for me. I went today to buy 35 pieces of 2x6x16 B Grade Redwood for my deck. I was told that to complete my order some of the 35 pieces needed to be shorter then 16'. My deck is a 16' span so anything shorter then that will leave a seam and I'm trying to avoid that. I asked if they had enough of the 2x6x16 to fill my order, thinking maybe it was an issue of inventory. I was told that they had enough to fill my order but the problem is that if people only buy the long sections then shorter sections sit on the shelf. And that's bad for Dolan. In my opinion if you're not selling an item as much as you'd like then stock less of it. Don't force people to buy something they aren't interested in. In the end Dolan lost a sale and I spent $2500 over at Golden State Lumber instead. read more

The Pinole yard was covered in rock dust. This is not the place to buy the redwood facia I thought. But when the bill added up to $3000 they gave me a free delivery, so I added #3 2x12 12' red. One was impact cracked from a hard roll-off, now, 2 years later it is throwing off paint, I never should have installed it on my own house. They are like a weed dealer who throws in a couple rotten buds to make weight. read more

Horrible service on June 8,2019 around 2pm. There were multiple sales reps behind the counter and on the floor, however no one acknowledged us or offered to help us. There were only 2 other customers (a couple) in the store. We were walking around for 10 minutes and finally we approached one of the reps. Apparently he was on "break" so couldn't help us and couldn't even refer us to someone else. Probably shouldn't be on the floor if you're on break! Needless to say we left and took our business elsewhere. I will say a rep followed us to our car to give us flyers. No apology. His solution was for us to check online! No thanks. read more

One of the worst companies we have dealt with. Anderson windows referred them as we wanted their windows. Eric was our contact. It took him three weeks to visit us for assessment. Said Anderson does not have our sizes and would have to go with a lower brand. This is evidently false as we did turn to Anderson half way through and placed an order in the right size. He pressured us to sign within the week as prices were going up. After visiting the shop for options, went to the office at the appointed time. Nobody there apparently heard of us. Contract was not ready and they couldn't find in their electronic files. We went home to get our physical copy but they said we would have to return another time. We waited six months. And they only made an installation appointment after two stern phone calls from us. They they delivered the windows unannounced. Lucky I happened to be home. They installed the first set and then realized the second set was an incorrect size and they would have to reorder a second set. This again would take six months. No priority order for their big blunder. Meanwhile they were sitting on our first installment which covered the cost of the windows that were installed plus some! To add insult to injury, they had sent us a threatening letter by registered mail, informing us that if we fail to pay them for their job they could put a lien on our house. (They demand 50% down, unlike Anderson Windows. The only reason I give them an extra star is because they offered us to withdraw the contract. We have since switched to Anderson Windows where every step of the way they have been professional, competent and considerate. Like to add that Dolan stated that sending a routine threatening letter by registered mail is routine practice. We have never encountered this practice and would not recommend this company for any job. read more

We're now new Dolan's customers having moved away from their local competitors. Can't beat better service and lower prices. And a shoutout to Tom, the driver, whom also wanted to make life easier for the customer by dropping the load in the driveway (his idea) thereby saving us 35 feet of uphill walking with 65 sticks of 2x6x14' doug fir. I wish I could gave this business a higher rating but I can't. I submitted an order in which I was assured by a Dolan customer service representative that the order would be placed immediately. Then called a week later and was assured the order was placed. Another week passed and I called again only to hear the same reassurance. After another two weeks I called only to find out that my order was not placed. I was then told that it would take another 4 weeks to have the order processed. No apology, no explanation. The only comment given to me was a request for my credit card. Two months have elapsed and no update. This is unacceptable behavior to be given a repeat customer. I can assure you that this is the last order I submit to Dolan's. I recommend current and future customers of Dolan's carefully consider placing any orders with this business until such time that management review the timeliness and quality of customer communications. read more

I had a very frustrating persistent front door problem where over time, the locking mechanism would fail. Dolan's (and John in particular) was willing to come back, time after time, to continue to investigate the problem and find an answer. This process took almost a year, and every several months when the lock would fail, Dolan's would try something new in a free follow up visit. They understood that when the lock failed, I needed immediate assistance (for safety reasons) and tried to book me as quickly as possible. I really appreciated their attention to the problem and commitment to solving it. There aren't very many certified Andersen services in the Bay Area, so even for San Francisco residents I would recommend Dolan's for service on these windows and doors. read more

I won't do business with these guys again mainly because of a very poor experience with Mike Spindler there. He was pretty passive aggressively obnoxious (expressing his annoyance at my questions with mumbled remarks under his breath over multiple calls) when I asked simple questions about timing and logistics. He also made a pretty bad product suggestion for my situation. I ended up at Ashby Lumber and was recommended a fiberglass door since my front door leads into a courtyard where it is constantly exposed to the elements on both sides. The previous door I had bought from Dolan's had delaminated within months of installing it. My experience is that Ashby Lumber is friendlier, more helpful, more knowledgeable, and with a better product selection. I won't be back to Dolan's. read more

Dolan's continues to be the best source for QUALITY building materials at decent prices, but the place really excels at customer service. More than once the sales guy offered a discount to me based on past purchases. The staff is helpful and courteous, but there is more... On one occasion I arrived late in the afternoon, after having called in my order in the morning. When I arrived I realized the office had closed fifteen minutes earlier, and the last sales guy had been about to get in his car. He asked me what I needed, and I told him my order was at will-call. He found the order, opened the office, fired-up his computer, took my payment, and gave me my material. Last Saturday I was trying to herd my chickens in the run (too many coyotes and hawks to free range unaccompanied by humans) and the babies were being difficult. I was heading to Monument Blvd, but was running about five minutes late. I called and asked if they could hang on to sell me a dinky 100' roll of welded wire fencing. He weren't happy about it, but remained polite and helpful. I rolled in six minutes late, but got my order paid for with polite conversation and no rush toward the door when I was done. I am bringing in a couple dozen eggs next time I go to Dolan's. read more

Sent an email to ask if they carry vinyl fencing and didn't get a response so I decided to call a couple of days later. When I called I got a Dolan representative who was rude and demeaning. When I asked him if they sold vinyl fencing he rudely said we only carry real wood and hung up the phone. I have never been treated so abbot from a companies representative before so I decided never to do business with this company again. There was a rude guy at the front desk who looked fed up when I asked for help figuring out how much wood I needed to get. It hit 5pm and he handed me off to the next guy and said pretty condescendingly: "He doesn't even know what he wants". Then, he leaves. After purchasing (8) 3' pieces of white oak from the other guy, I headed across the street to pick up the wood from their yard. Once I got there, there's no clear direction on where to go and nobody really greets you so it was a little confusing. I found somebody and they grabbed my receipt to go get the wood. Instead of coming out with my (8) 3' lengths of white oak, he brings out (3) 8' pieces. I told him it should be cut, like the front desk told me they would. But he tried to explain to me that I'm still getting 24' total. I told him that's not what I need. It needs to be cut to 3'. He was confused and asked what I need. I repeated that I need a 3' piece. Then this guy really questions me and asks, "why do you only want 3' of wood? You bought 24'." He either wasn't getting it or just didn't care to understand so I ended up leaving. If I wanted poor service, I would've gone to straight to The Home Depot. Now, I also know I can find it at Dolan's. read more

These people are really nice and helpful. That's about as much as I can objectively say because I don't know crap about lumber and went there with my dad when he was visiting and repairing all the things around my house that my husband and I have no clue where to start. He bought lumber here to make a ramp for our mobility-impaired corgi and also repair holes in our fence. In my dad's helpfulness, he inadvertently broke a part on our skylight (well, really the pole you use to open it up), and as they are registered dealers of the manufacturer, they didn't have the obscure part but went above and beyond calling people to find out where we could find it. Ultimately my dad just fixed it with super glue. I'm sure duct tape would have also sufficed. read more

I ordered a sliding door from Dolan lumber. After a supply chain delay of nearly 8 weeks, they delivered only the frame without the screen and door pannel (so an open doorway). After many calls and emails it was revealed that they received the full door but failed to track half the parts. As a distributor, this is their only role a was clearly a complete failure. To date I have not received the order and they refuse to provide a refund. read more

The guys and gals that work here are very helpful and left me very happy on the two times I had to visit. I called ahead before my first visit, finding that they were a Milgard patio door distributor. I was calling because while repairing things in my house I decided to investigate why the patio door locks weren't working. Turns out the actual levers were broken. Milgard had discontinued the older lever model and I wasn't sure whether I could use one of the newer ones. I decided to track down a distributor and called the Concord office to see if they had the lever I was looking for. Jeff who I spoke with on a Saturday told me to call the warehouse on Monday as they were the ones who'd have the hardware and told me to ask for 1 of 3 gentleman. He also gave me general directions and told me where the warehouse was. I called back on Tuesday and after a 1 minute conversation with Mike they found the 2 levers I was looking for. I believe they expected me to show up that day or the next to pick them up. Unfortunately it was a busy week and I only made it out to the Concord area maybe a week later. Stopped off at the Concord store and explained that I had spoken with Mike and they had parts for me at the warehouse. The guy took me outside, pointed out where the warehouse was and I walked over, basking in the sun. Took me some time to find the office in the warehouse where the guys were. Mostly because I was waiting for a worker helping a customer out with wood selection for their next project. After getting to the office, the two levers I asked for had been set aside and despite being sized slightly differently, would do the trick. I took the levers back to the office and spoke with a guy at the Contractors sales desk to pay for them. He guesstimated at $5 for both. Cash. I could have feasibly just got straight into my car instead of paying but that wasn't reasonable given that the new ones online were priced at $10 each. Took them home and installed them in minutes. I had further issues with one of the door handles after all of this when a landscaper wrenched the outdoor handle off. After narrowing down the issue to the threads being worn on the outdoor handle piece (not the screws being the wrong size) I decided to simply jump in the car and head to Dolan's rather than calling ahead. Went straight to the warehouse office since I knew where it was now, showed the guy the handle I needed a replacement for. He gave me a very slightly used handle (perhaps the only one they had) which did the trick. Again, I could have just left without paying but instead went back to the office to pay for the $8 replacement handle. This time around the guy at the Contractor sales desk called the office and they decided to part with the used handle - no charge. Absolutely brilliant. I know Dolan's doesn't make their money from such small replacement parts and I'm happy they don't take it too seriously. If I had a larger project I'd definitely look towards them for my needs. read more

Mike at the register was very helpful and super friendly!!! The purchase took a matter of a few minutes. So I was in and out. The guys in the yard getting the lumber for you were also great. Super friendly and really looked at the wood to make sure it was in good shape and the best possible. I really appreciated that. The location is easy to find and have very accessible parking. The pricing is comparable to Home Depot. The service is top notch. They are a large company while still having the local small business feel. Talking about the good customer service! Due to a communication mishap between myself and Richard (sales person at Dolan), I got a smaller bathroom window than what the plan indicated. Once I phoned Richard, he re-confirmed the size with my sub-contractor and ordered a new, correct size. I picked up the new and returned the old within 2 weeks. My husband and I live on a hill of clay soil and have had trouble with our doors. Dolan's and their window and door installers, PED Construction, have been a huge help to us. Not only do they know their products and take time to survey and understand our needs, but they also help with the proper selection of products best suited for our home--both in function and aesthetics. They are priced fairly and have honored their contracts without gouging us with extra fees. They have installed a basement door which has always been a challenged spot in our home, a window in our basement and have worked with French doors that always need expert adjustment. The contractors are excellent, punctual and fast, and their work is clean and superb. The office staff are friendly and terrific about answering and responding to our calls, as well. We really appreciate the quality, fair pricing and great products and service Dolan's/PED Construction offers. Worst possible customer service ever. I submitted a request for quote through Milgards website and was told this was the local authorized dealer for them. I called number provided through email to get quote I wanted and from the very first hello, the lady seemed to be having a bad day and transmitting that through the phone. She then proceeded to transfer me to a gentleman that all he said " let me call you back I have someone standing in front of me" no phone etiquette. When he finally called back he took down basic info and when it came time to ask for dimensions of windows I told him I submitted the project details online and I was told they had a quote ready to just give them a call. He caught attitude and said he would look for it and give me a call back.. we'll I guess they are not looking for any further business. For sure won't get it from me. Very irresponsible. We ordered material to build a deck and we paid and it was supposed to be delivered today between 12:00-1:00. We get a phone call today at 12:00 saying they actually don't have the material in stock and that the man who took our order made a mistake. We ordered this last week. I don't understand this level of incompetence. I will never do business with this company again, nor will I ever recommend them. Our whole project is compromised and we are running around today trying to find where we can purchase it because our employees are waiting. We purchased shiplap from Dolan's. I didn't even realize there was a lumberyard on Monument. It's kind of hidden and the warehouse is just on the other side of the gas station. We first had the shiplap delivered. We ordered Friday afternoon and they were able to deliver Saturday mid morning. They are super helpful, but my husband did run into a hiccup when he had to get some more lumber a few days later. The young man cutting the pieces seemed to get confused easily. We got home and the pieces were cut wrong. So just make sure you check their work before you go all the way home. read more
