Last time I went some waitress threw glass across room at bartender. It shattered of course and injured the bartender who was great at her job. Now I think that waitress is a bartender. I'd heard raving reviews but maybe it was just an off night? Unfortunately our table was just in a very awkward spot. It felt like we were an afterthought. One star dining at Dolce Vita. My wife and I came for dinner. She had the rigatoni with pork ragu -- at least that's how the menu told it. But when the dish came it was soggy pasta drowned in a mess of sliced sausage slivers and other unidentifiable things. It was unrecognizable as the advertised dish and inedible in any event. I ordered the rack of lamb medium rare. It came well done and over salted, with cold vegetables, and decent mashed potatoes. It was edible even if displeasurable, so I ate it. We did not have time to go elsewhere or wait another 30 minutes for the chef to remake the meals. So we gritted our teeth and suffered through the subpar dining experience, with my wife surviving mostly on bread and a few bites of the non-ragu "ragu." The bread was good. I shared my concerns with the waitress, who was pleasant but seemed overwhelmed by the situation and embarrassed by the food. I also spoke with the manger, who was hostile and callous to the unacceptable circumstances. She said as a matter of "policy" that "nothing" could be done to fix the situation because we ate (some of) the food instead of sending it back. Better establishments do things like: apologize, comp a drink, comp a dessert, modestly discount the meal, etc. None of these common approaches occurred to her, and I did not want a further browbeating, which I was already paying for with my time and the cost of the meal. Despite the unacceptable performance of the kitchen and front of house staff, I sympathize with them. They clearly have not been given the tools to succeed. The cook probably did not create the recipe for my wife's ragu. The waitress did not make the cook overdo my lamb. And the manager did not make the inflexible policy that "nothing" can be done if a customer eats bad food. Instead, the true culprits are the owners, who should either overhaul the restaurant quickly or shut it down. read more

The new Italian Seafood restaurant Dolce Vita promises a good life and most definitely delivers. From the fresh modern decor, mean cocktails, to the attractive and friendly staff, it leaves one delighted and looking forward to more. I tried it this Saturday evening. My date and I began with oysters and grilled octopus to share. The oysters were presented in a classic tray with all the accompaniments. They were gigantic and delightfully fresh. Octopus was appropriately marinated prior to being lightly grilled and sat on a bed of fresh arugula and grape tomatoes, sprinkled with olive oil, but particularly memorable was the slightly spicy sauce served on the side, it really elevated the familiar octopus dish for me. We also received a generous bread basked with warm focaccia and pesto olive oil, just perfect on a chilly night. Washed down by two excellent vodka cocktails and we were looking forward to the main course. Both dishes were specials: crab crusted grouper with saffron risotto for my date and lobster ravioli for me. The grouper was wonderfully crispy and one could really taste the saffron in the risotto. My lobster ravioli dish was on the lighter side, but it featured shrimp and scallops as garnish and was a great take on the classic dish. I would add that lobster was a tad salty, but I expected that in a seafood dish. After the spectacular main course, (the entire experience reminded me of dinners on the Italian Riviera with equally satisfying cuisine!) my date still had room for dessert and ordered the flan. It was beautifully decorated with flowers and fresh fruit and was a fitting finale to our terrific dinner. Nyack, it is time you live the Dolce Vita! read more

My girlfriend was dying to try this place for her birthday, so we made a reservation for 4 people at 7:15 that was not only confirmed via text message but verbally when we called about parking. When we arrived at 7:08pm a young woman apologized and said "we know you have a reservation but we don't have a table and the wait was 30-45 minutes" We explained we had tickets to a show at 9:30 and that's why we made a reservation! She again, apologized. We asked to speak to a manager, but instead of standing anyone over, they left us standing there while whispering around the bar area, until we finally left! NEVER, EVER, would I waste a second of your life on such a disappointing, discourteous establishment!! We were randomly in Nyack and stopped in for a quick lunch (we had never been). Being Manhattan restaurant brats, we always lower all expectations outside of the city. With DV, we found the exception! We were blown away by the chicken parm and crab cake sandwich (even the table bread and olive oil were fantastic). Both entrees were absolutely delicious on every level...taste, portion, quality, and care. Decor and service were also on point. Our only criticism is that DV isn't in our city neighborhood so we could frequent often. This was an unexpected gem of an experience! read more

They serve warm bread and pesto dip which is mouth watering and scrumptious. Glad we tried Dolce Vita. We were warmly greeted by the bartender who brought over menus and happily gave us a quick rundown of some house favorites as well as the specials. In a few minutes we met our server who was polite and attentive. We ordered a bottle of Italian red and the steak tips special to start. Both were excellent, as was the bread with pesto for dipping. For our entrees, we went with two of the bartenders recommendations: the salmon and the shrimp and scallop fettuccine. We would order both of these again! The seafood here is fresh and cooked perfectly. There are a few chicken, pasta, and steak options on the menu for those who don't like seafood. Reservation means nothing to this restaurant! This restaurant came highly recommended so I called one week before to make a reservation at the bar for 2. When we arrived on time our reservation was in the book but there were no seats. We were asked to have a seat at a table till one opened up at the bar. We were annoyed to say the least. We asked to speak to the manager... a few minutes later the chef/owner came over to us. We explained what happened and his response was well these are my regulars. I told him he took my reservation and I was not told ok only if my regulars don't come.... Never would Nova kitchen do that! We are regulars there and they always fulfill our reservation. We should just stick with our favorite. No one was moving we were hungry so decided to just stay at the table we were at. We place our order... steamed clams for appetizers and two entrees. Well our entrees come before our appetizers! Then here come the clams... big fat clams not my style or taste. This restaurant unfortunately gets a two stars from us and we do not intend on returning. read more

I decided to try this place on a Sunday with my young son because of the rave reviews. I was excited to try this place. My son ordered penna Alla vodka- which was decent. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was a special of the day-and blackened halibut. The halibut was alright. The Bloody Mary was one of the worst I've ever tried. It had two jumbo cocktail shrimps that were old and therefore it smelled fishy. I told our server that she can remove the Bloody Mary as it was not good and tasted funny like fishy tomato juice. Maybe it's because she made the drink, she decided to still charge me for it. I could have told her that I'm not paying for a drink I didn't drink but I didn't want to cause a scene with my son there. Her lack of common courtesy left a bad impression so I will not come back again. I frequent restaurants often especially in NYC and even if the food was mediocre but their customer service was top notch- I would still go back to give it another shot. Being kind goes a long way. On top of that, when the bill arrived, she charged my card with someone else's order and when I tried to get her attention on her mistake, she acted as I was bothering her. A simple apology for YOUR mistake would have sufficed. read more
