I'm a frequent customer of Hertz, and I typically choose this location because it's easy to access,…read morethe staff (Vanessa & Peter) are friendly, professional and they go above and beyond in getting me what I need and getting me on my way in a timely manner. There were a couple times I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the vehicle I received, but once I brought it up to the team, they made an effort to make sure that is no longer a problem. I appreciate this team and their hard work (especially remaining professional when the irate customers blame them for things they don't control), the location and the vehicle availability. This is my location of choice!

I reserved a vehicle for pickup at 12:00 PM today. When I arrived, I was assisted by an agent named…read moreRoz, who asked for my driver's license and credit card, which I provided. She told me she needed to scan my driver's license, so she took both my credit card and license into a back room. I found this unusual, as I expected the documents to be scanned at the counter. She remained in the back for some time before returning and telling me there was a problem with the "authenticity" of the back of my ID. I was extremely confused and honestly offended by this. I have a valid California REAL ID driver's license issued by the California DMV. This is the same type of ID that is now accepted for federal purposes and air travel. I have never had anyone question the authenticity of my driver's license before. I travel 10-15 times a year, both domestically and internationally, and I have never had an issue using my identification at airports, hotels, rental car companies, or anywhere else. I then called Hertz customer service to try to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, the representative I spoke with did not seem to understand what I was telling him. I repeatedly explained that I was physically at the Hertz location and had my physical driver's license with me, yet he continued asking whether I had a copy of my license. I explained this multiple times, but he continued to misunderstand the situation. Both the representative at the location and the customer service representative told me that I needed to contact the DMV regarding my driver's license, rather than considering that there could be an issue with Hertz's scanner or verification system. As a result, I was left without the vehicle I had reserved, despite arriving on time with a valid driver's license and credit card. To make matters worse, when I asked the representative on the phone to speak with someone else or escalate the issue, he refused to transfer me to another representative or supervisor. This was an extremely frustrating and insulting experience. I have rented vehicles before and have never experienced anything like this. Based on how this situation was handled, I will not be renting from Hertz again in the future.

At the checkout counter in OAK airport they charged me about $35 more on top of the invoice. Few days later I checked my account and noticed they charged me another extra $35. When I returned the car, I checked the car with agent and he said you are good and you will receive the receipt via email. After two weeks they charged me $125 for cleaning. Stay away from these thieves.

I think folks are in a rush and satisfied so don't review this location. I'm one of them. I've been…read morerenting off and off from here for about 5 years and much more frequently over the last two and this is my first review. (I used to rent from the airport but that didn't make much sense after a while.) I have an older car so I prefer to rent a car when I'm traveling more than 300 miles one way. These past few years I've made about 4 trips to Joshua Tree and 5 to Big Bear where I lead mindfulness retreats. I've also been to L.A. and traveled up the coast. In other words, at least for me, I rent a lot from this location. The cars are beautiful and clean. It's been a great sampling experience for me as I rent the various sizes I need. This last trip I really needed an SUV to bring guitars and things for my co-teacher who preferred to fly. In Joshua tree the roads can be rough, so an SUV makes sense. It was also useful for a trip to Arizona when I could just lay back and stretch out a bit as a snow storm passed. Last month I rented a smaller car which was perfect for my trip to L.A.. I got the mileage and it was just great for getting around the city. The gals behind the counter are friendly and efficient. They know the cars. I've seen them be very patient with folks who were having issues, which is a plus. To be honest, their kindness and efficiency, is what brings me back. So yeah, there would likely be more 5 stars of us satisfied folks paused to share our appreciation. Thanks!!

**Unacceptable Customer Service at Oakland Airport Location**…read more **Location: ** Alamo, 7600 Earhart Rd, Oakland, CA 94621 | Phone: (833) 659-1913 I booked a 3-day rental through Expedia for pickup at 11:00 PM on 6/18/2026. When I arrived, my card was declined for the minivan I wanted. The first agent--a guy--simply said "you can't use two credit cards" and walked away--he didn't offer a single alternative or solution despite knowing I urgently needed a car for my Joshua Tree trip. So, I had to find my own solution. I located a cheaper full-size Jeep Wrangler and went back to the counter with a new reservation. This is where the real problem started. Agent Kayla never properly processed my new Jeep reservation. She continued processing the minivan instead, which is why my card kept being declined. When I checked my card balance, I had more than enough money for the Jeep rental. I went back to her and showed her--my card clearly had sufficient funds. She then asked, "Did you have another reservation?" I said yes, under my husband's name, but I told her **multiple times** that my new reservation was for the **Jeep, not the minivan**. She wasn't paying attention. She never switched the reservation in the system. This wasn't a card issue--it was her failure to properly process my booking. We spent nearly 2 hours troubleshooting a problem that shouldn't have existed if she had simply listened and done her job correctly. She was dismissive, abrupt, and never once apologized for wasting our time. **Why this was so frustrating: ** Alamo's policy requires one card for the rental + $400 deposit hold. I understand the reason--they need to secure the deposit. But here's what made it inexcusable: I had a Capital One debit card with $5,000 available. Both agents rejected it outright without explanation. **Alamo's own policy says debit cards ARE accepted at airport locations** if you provide your return flight itinerary--but neither agent explained this nor asked if I had my flight confirmation. They just said "no" and refused to help problem-solve. Money is money. $5,000 is more than enough to cover a rental and deposit. Their inflexibility was unnecessary and unhelpful. **The core issues: ** - First agent refused to help find alternatives - Both agents rejected available debit card funds without explaining actual policy - Kayla failed to properly process the Jeep reservation despite being told multiple times - Poor attention to detail and lack of basic listening skills - Unprofessional, dismissive attitudes from both staff members - Nearly 2 hours wasted with my two younger children, arriving home to Bay Point at almost 2 AM If you work in customer service, you have one job: listen to customers and help them. These staff members failed at both. People deserve better, especially at major airport locations. Do better, or step aside for someone who will. These people had 0 manners and they are both adult! ~Ella

We rented a small crossover for almost 2 weeks in CA and we were hoping for a Toyota or Honda, but…read moreall they had were Hyundais and Mitsubishi's. At least our plain underpowered Hyundai Venue got good gas mileage (not a car I would ever buy after this). It basically did the job, but when I returned the vehicle, I was handed a receipt which I noticed was for almost $60. I was told I agreed to a full tank of gas at $4.99 a gallon. However, I had completely filled the tank up 40 miles prior so I asked if that charge could be removed. I was assured I would be getting an email shortly or a text. They did email me a copy of the bill, but no refund. After I noticed the charge had not been removed for two days. I called Alamo and talked to an operator and they assured me it would be removed. Four days later and the charge is still there so I called again and was once again assured the charge would be removed and two days later it was. Keep in mind that both Alamo, National and other similar car rental agencies give you the option to return the car with a full tank or they will take care of it at two different price ranges. The best option is to return the car with a full tank of gas and make sure you state that during your time at the rental counter or you'll be dealing with this same scenario. I would rent from Alamo again, but I'd get this detail correct in future.
