I had a really disappointing experience at the Dollar Tree on La Tijera, and it honestly left me more frustrated than anything. I walked in and, before even shopping, politely asked the cashier if I could use the restroom. Mind you, I am 9 months pregnant. She was kind enough to call for the manager, Lillian Garcia, but instead of coming out or even acknowledging the situation, the manager dismissed her and stayed in the back office. At that point, I walked to the back and knocked myself. When she finally responded, she was rude and completely dismissive. I explained that I was 9 months pregnant, that I would purchase something, and that I really needed to use the restroom. Her response was that she was in the middle of watching a video and would not allow me to use the bathroom because it was not open to the public. I understand policies. I really do. But there is something called basic empathy and common sense. Special circumstances should matter. A visibly pregnant woman asking for help should not be treated like an inconvenience. What made it worse was the reaction from the employees. The young cashiers clearly felt bad and even said they wished they could help, but they have to ask her for a key just to use the restroom themselves. That says a lot about the environment they are working in. It did not feel supportive or respectful at all. I have heard negative things about this manager before, and now I understand why. The way she treated both a customer and her own staff was unacceptable. Customer service clearly is not a priority here, and that is a problem. Management like this reflects poorly on the entire store. There needs to be accountability because no one should be treated this way, especially when they are simply asking for a basic human need. I hope she reads this and reflects on her leadership; it's piss poor and I hope those young cashiers lessen that they can definitely do better than working under her. read more

The price is right! I had just left Target, and when I compared prices, Dollar Tree really came through. I stopped in to stock up on a few things before my trip to Africa, and I was impressed by the selection. They even had detergent sheets that work perfectly for hand washing very convenient for travel. Yes, they were a little low in certain areas, but overall I think it's a great spot to find what you need without breaking the bank. My only suggestion would be having more people available at checkout, since the lines can get a little backed up. Still, solid experience every time good selection, and you can't beat the price. read more

And while the security guard may have been a little overzealous looking around as though he was guarding the inner sanctum of the vatican, for the most part the environment was chill and relaxed. Suffice to say they have quite a bit of stuff and pretty much every product you can name to satisfy some of your Christmas needs. And while we are using classic bulbs that go back almost 40 years to this day, there's always a need to pick up a few things along the way. I went to Dollar tree a few days ago and customer service was terrible! I politely asked an employee if she could inflate a couple balloons for me as she was already inflating some balloons for someone else and she very rudely told me no and that I needed to go to the register and ask the cashier to do it for me. I then get in line and ask the lady at the register to please help me with the balloons. Her response was just as rude as the other employees. She was annoyed with me and asked who had told me to get in line to ask her. I pointed to the employee right behind her on the register. She was visibly irritated and asked me to wait for her to ring the lady behind me up first. After she rang her up she asked me what colors I wanted, with an attitude. I was scared to ask her what the color options were but asked her anyway because I didnt know what colors they had. She had me walk with her to the balloons and asked me the colors again. I started telling her the numbers next to the colors so she could look for them. She was further annoyed by me for saying the numbers too fast. I went to pay for them then came back to get my balloons from another employee who asked me how many I had paid for. She was looking at me suspiciously.... she thought I was trying to steal the balloons. Listen, I understand that this is dollar tree and you cant expect much from customer service but I have lived in the neighborhood over 10 years and go to dollar tree once or twice a month and have never had such a bad experience. Hello, Today, Sunday, May 3rd, at around 3:08 PM, I visited your store located at 6921 La Tijera (Store #10555) with my 9-month-old baby. I live very close by and shop at your store almost every day, usually with my baby. However, today I had a very upsetting experience. While I was checking out at the first register near the main entrance, my baby was making cheerful sounds and expressing himself, as babies do while learning about the world. The cashier working there reacted in a very disturbing and unprofessional way. Every time my baby made a sound, she covered her ears, made facial expressions of discomfort, and looked visibly annoyed. She repeated this behavior multiple times while I was standing there in line, in front of other customers. At one point, she even tried to block her ears with her hair, as if to show she didn't want to hear him. Her overall attitude was extremely rude and unfriendly. This behavior made me feel humiliated and uncomfortable in front of others. As a mother, I often go out with my baby to get fresh air and do my shopping. I have always enjoyed coming to your store, but this experience was so upsetting that I left feeling deeply hurt and even cried afterward. I would like to kindly ask that you address this situation. Please review your security camera footage if necessary -- I am confident you will see what happened. I still have my receipt and can provide it if needed. I don't know the employee's name as she was not wearing a name tag, but I strongly believe this behavior is unacceptable. No mother should feel ashamed or uncomfortable because her baby is simply being a baby. Please take appropriate action so that other mothers do not have to go through a similar experience. The best dollar tree around by far. I only go to this one. I avoid the nearby one on LaBrea permanently. Unlike the LaBrea location nearby , La Tijera will rarely run out of stuff I need, it's rarely disorganized with stuff thrown all over the floor, there's no melting ice creams or decomposing chicken pot-pies thrown on the floor near the freezer, and I can always get the general selection of the items I came to buy , even if it's not the exact brand. The great staff and security guard mostly focus on their jobs and they usually avoid most of the 'Dollar Tree cashier/guard behaviors' of talking to customers that they like for 10 minutes causing the line to explode, or fighting with customers that they don't like, causing the lines to explode further. At this location You can just get in, and get out. No chaotic nonsense. The only location for me. The security guard deserves a special shoutout too, they don't get into any random nonsense or verbal ranting, they just do their job and focus on safety. Well done. read more

This location recently opened in the building of The 99 Cents store which shut down a year ago. The store was clean, and the isles had lots of products to chose. The cashier was polite too. Now the bad news. Upon entering the store the security guard began to follow myself and my husband. We notices him ever section of the store where we went. He was very obvious and made for an unpleasant shopping experience. We are both over 65 and have never taken anything without paying. He glared at us thru his dark sunglasses. Convenient and greet. How can we even heat on the stores they gave us most of the things that we need for a fair price. Yes recently inflation has definitely driven up prices. I've never been so impressed with a 99 cent store location like this one. When I say that they have everything, I literally mean everything. And they were a very organized location to have so many products. Mom was there to look up their gardening products so I decided to play around and look at different things in that particular aisle. The story is very spacious and so is their parking. By the way as a tip when you come in on la Tijera Blvd the parking might appear limited but this location actually has a back door so you can park behind the store where there's much more parking available. The customer service was beautiful. Our team member was Leon and he was so polite and efficient. I would definitely like to visit this location again. read more

I went by this location this evening (Saturday, May 25) at about 7 PM and they already had pulled down the security doors early. As most people know, everything is no longer 99¢. I came here for mason jars & they have the standard size for $1 and the big ones for $2. I typically come to the 99¢ store for household stuff (shower liners) or cleaning supplies. This is a good location for that kind of stuff. I'm here about 3-4 times a week. The inventory is ever changing, so I like to see what new items are on the shelf. Since the pandemic, this location has been a life saver. They have managed to keep the shelves stocked. The first couple weeks of the lockdown, the shelves were bare and that's understandable. Once they got a grip on things, everything was back to normal. The staff is helpful and friendly. I started coming to this store after the store on Washington (Culver City) burned down. This will be my store going forward. See you soon. read more

This venue just implemented a horrible policy. They're keeping shopping carts in the store itself and have attached tall poles to them so you can't take them outside. I'm sure cart theft is a problem, but why is this the only store in America that doesn't let you take carts outside? Do they not understand that carts are how you transport groceries from the store to your car? If you need a cart, by definition you have more groceries than you can carry by hand. If you can't carry heavy bags because you're old or disabled, too bad. Ditto if you have a young child. Do you leave the child unattended in the car or the store while you go back and forth between one and the other? Providing a service that some people can't use sounds like discrimination to me. I'm guessing it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act, at least. How about keeping the store available to everyone, 99 Cent folks, not just the strong and healthy? If you need to buy more than a hand-basket's worth of groceries, consider how much heavy lifting you're prepared to do. Shopping here has suddenly become a physical burden. read more

Housed in a former Von's supermarket, this store is huge with a big selection. The aisles are wide and the shelves brimming with merch. The food selection is excellent, including fresh produce. I love their hummus for a buck and small packages of Hormel salami. They even have pints and quarts of ice cream for a buck! Such a deal! Plenty of parking out back yet a small lot in front. They do not let you take shopping carts outside the store and you have to ask one of the employees to help you take groceries to your car where they will then demand that you give them a tip. That is illegal for them to demand that you pay them just to push a shopping cart to your car when they don't give you the option of doing it yourself. Other supermarkets don't do this and it is unconscionable for them to do this when the majority of customers are low income individuals who don't even get enough money on their food stamp card. Service varies, Suzanna especially lacks leadership and professionalism amongst a few others. The store is big and mostly well organized. I did find some expired products while in the store but it seems like that's something we should always be checking, regardless of where you get your groceries. Ample parking. This store is a little larger than the usual 99c Only stores-- this was a former Vons Supermarket back in the day. Anyway, I just left to buy one item. ONE. Wait time? Ten whole minutes. They only had four checkstands open, and the one I stood in nearest the La Tijera entrance had about four people waiting in line. I'm not sure if it was the cashier's fault (likely) or the customer's, but two of the four customers before me had some kind of price discrepancy. The cashier (a very short, Caribbean-looking woman had NO personality, was SUPER slow, and no professionalism. As soon as it was my turn, scans my item, and looks at me blankly. No apology for going snail slow, no good morning greeting, or even a smile. Didn't say the amount I owed out loud, nor did she say a word when she gave me my change. No "thank you." Incredible. This is one of the bigger stores in the chain, but the employees suck with a capital "S." Avoid this store at all costs...at least in the morning. read more

This location has sooooo much stuff. I found out about it on Instagram because a lady I follow I think works for them as a secret shopper. She posts many new arrivals from this store and another close to it in Los Angeles/Inglewood areas. We don't get a lot of the things she highlights where I'm at,at least not when this store does. Dunno what up with that but anyway I decided to check it out. Now from first appearances the front lot for this strip mall is pretty jank. The parking is sparse and it's very busy . Not to worry tho because there's a full lot around back . Luckily tho I got one in front! There were many things I found here and I had to control myself and put some back to prevent hoarding/waste LOL. Here's some things I spotted and many are available now most locations but a few I saw here and either missed at other locations or whatever. Anyway I'll be back for sure! Ok, if you stood outside this store and threw 99 pennies in the air, 98 of them would hit the *other* 99 Cent Store across the street - seriously. This brand spanking new store is less than 3 weeks old and is across the street from the older one that has been around for 20+ years. NEW STORE - LADERA HEIGHTS 6921 La Tijera Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90045 OLD STORE - Still open across the street - LA TIJERA 6854 La Tijera Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90045 This new store features acres of free parking in the back lot and since it is in an old Vons store, it is HUGE! The aisles are wide and merchandise isn't packed into every square inch of display space like it is in the smaller store across the street, plus there are tons of cash registers! For cheap stuff all year long like gift wrap, greeting cards (OMG 20 Christmas cards for 99 cents, yes!), you can't beat this place. For cleaning supplies like Comet, sponges, bleach and ammonia... meh sometimes Ralphs has the same prices, but not all the time. Personally I don't think their laundry detergent cleans as well - if you have to use twice as much cheap stuff to clean your clothes, then just buy Tide IMHO, but the fabric softeners are the same as in stores. If you are a crafter or woodworker and need steel wool or sponges for painting techniques or masking tape or just stuff you need to thrash then toss, this is the place. Got kids who love Disney? They always have Disney brand small toys and school supplies. They also sometimes have Armor All and Turtle Wax car cleaning supplies, which blows me away - good-bye Pep Boys LOL I was not a fan of the 99 Cent Stores outside of getting good, cheap holiday stuff for a long time, but now with a tighter budget, I'm all for most of their merchandise. I am irrationally wary of their food - I know, generic is the same as brand name, but that's me - but the candy, fresh produce and non-refrigerated grocery sections are comparable to the regular stores. I stick with name brands like Chex, C&H, etc. - but I never had a problem with an "off brand". My issue with cheap food is that it is usually full of salt and sugar and pretty much unhealthy, having said that, I usually buy a lot of fresh food like the squash that comes 3 to a package, the 5 pound bag of potatoes, asparagus, artisan lettuces, bags of shredded carrots, etc. They make it easy to go vegetarian-ish :) Heck sometimes they even have Tofu! You do need to read the packages, just as you would in any grocery store. I like cheese, but the cheese section has "cheese product", cheese spread, and hey look, *real* cheese - the labels are made to mimic common familiar band names, so don't get stuck. Some people don't care, I know, but just saying... The odd thing is that they plan to keep both stores open - and odder yet is that each store carries some different merchandise. 99% (get the pun?) of the stuff is the same, but on today's trip for Thanksgiving dinner supplies, we went to both stores and the older store features brand name bread (Sara Lee, Wonder) from an outlet and the new store had a smaller variety of bread, but had Russian dark bread which you never see outside of Bristol farms or maybe a good Ralphs. All the sections at the new store are at least twice as large as the old one - school supplies, hardware, kitchen supplies, are all huge. We even found telescoping curtain rods that are at least $4 each at Home Depot, that doesn't sound too bad, but when you have 10 windows to decorate, $10 vs. $40 is a big deal! Same for random hardware things like hex wrenches or an Xacto knife you may only need once a year, why pay full price? If you bake a lot, the aluminum bakeware section will save you money, read the labels though - some items are packed 1 in a package, 2 in a package or 3 in a package - if you need 3 piepans, look for the 3 for 99-cent ones, not the single 1 at 99 cents each. The frozen food section was not the size of the old Vons freezer section, it's maybe as big as a 7-11 freezer section, but they had a lot of frozen fruit and Red Baron microwave pizzas along with frozen burritos, Icee brand treats and a bunch of other stuff. The produce section is clean and spread out and not as crammed as some of the stores that were never meant to have a produce section. On our trip today they had grapes, eggplant, bagged salads, pomegranates, garlic, squash, tomatoes and a lot more. Anyway this is a great store in a great location, just read the labels of what you buy and you will definitely save some money! p.s. and yes, we did wait in line for 45 minutes on the grand opening to have a shot at the flat screen TV raffle, no luck on that but everyone got like $20 of free groceries on the way out! read more

OMG, I think I just found the BEST 99 cent store in the entire West Coast. This store just opened and it's huge. They got almost everything: Christmas wrapping paper, greeting cards, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, veggies, pasta, cheese, beans.... almost everything. You load your cart and walk out of there having paid only 20-30$. The store is very clean and organized as well. And, the employees VERY friendly. Get this: I asked about their return policy just out of curiosity and the cashier said, "if it doens't work for you, bring your receipt and we'll refund." How cool is that? There's tons of parking at the front and back. Simply amazing for a cheap person. Hey, after watching "Extreme Cheapskates" or whatever that show is called don't you feel like being cheap? Support this store so we all benefit by having access to cheap and 'good' stuff. Oh, I forgot to mention, they have a smoothie that has no high fructose syrup but sugar instead, at least that's what the label says and I hope they labeled the bottle correctly as it tastes soooo good. read more

Ironically there's another 99cents only store directly across the street from this one that's in much worse shape. I came looking for raffle tickets but unfortunately they didn't have any. An employee search the back for me and couldn't find anything. I come here for one thing and one thing only: DAWN DISH SOAP. i'm not sure how they manage it, but Dawn here is a probably a third of the going price on amazon. Store is large, and the short shelves make it feel less congested. I'm giving 2 stars though because of a very rude little cashier. I had one item, and was next in line. As I move forward, not a word in greeting. She scans my item, then started doing other things at the register while I swipe my card. Then she WALKS AWAY FROM THE REGISTER without a word while I'm standing there... the receipt was printed and everything. I'm standing there in disbelief as the seconds tick by and it's clear she didn't just walk a quick 2 steps away to communicate with a coworker or grab a needed item or something. So I took my paid-for item walked out. Her behavior was completely uncalled for. She's a petite, older Latina woman if I'm not mistaken; unfortunately I didn't catch her name. My mistake. I usually never have problems with people in customer service. I'm a college student so I work in retail and I know how it is but the service I receive ld this morning 9/8/17 was horrible all across the board. I purchased a cheap mirror yesterday (against my better judgement) and all I did was remove it from my car and attempt to stand it up against the wall in my room. It immediately basically shattered! After this incident I called the store I went to because it is not that close to my house (again I'm a college student and I don't have gas to just waste) I spoke to someone who didn't give me their name and rushed me off the phone but I was still cool because they said I'd be able to exchange my mirror as long as I have the receipt. I go back the NEXT morning (today, 9/8/17) and I see cashier and she points out the manager and says to ask her. I ask her then she says "did you break it?" Then I tell her the whole incident and she even has me show her where I call. Then she pretends to go to the back to talk to someone (when she's the manager on duty in charge) which was just a whole show and lie because there was no other manager there and we got to that when I asked to speak to him but I applaud her on her lying and acting and how she just demanded to make me leave the store this morning as an unhappy customer. She told me I could wait two hours to speak to her supposed male manager that was at home sleep. All in all, the worst customer service I've ever received in my life and I CALLED BEFOREHAND! read more

First, I have to say this place has had everything I need when I need it. A lot of 99cents stores are lacking even most "basic" 99 cent items, this one does not. It has a good selection. The customer service at the registers is so great! I always walk out with a smile. EXCEPPPTT, I recently began noticing where the grocery isles are is a disturbing disease-laden, food-borne illness issue just waiting to happen, in that there are fruit flies and feces and egg sacs on the produce there!! This is unacceptable for what's supposed to be a 1st world country. To me, this is unacceptable in ANY store IMHO. If they can afford to air condition, then they can afford to keep the fruit flies off the vegetables, bottles and cans. I like it there, I hope this changes. read more

This is the best 99 Cent Store! It is brand new and beautiful. Everything is easy to find and they have such a wide variety of products. I can even get rabbit food here for $.99! There is another older 99 Cent Store across the street which isn't nearly as good. I wonder if they're going to be closing soon because of this location? Staff is friendly and helpful. I absolutely love dollar stores, and this by far is the best one i have seen since living in California (SD & LA included)! Its always cool to me to look around in dollar stores just to see what deals they have, its a plus to find things you actually need! This store is new and is MASSIVE. And trust me when I say massive in the best way possible! I expected to the store to be messy, loud, ghetto, etc. Nope it was none of that! Just quite the opposite! As I walked around the store I saw multiple staff members stocking the already super neat and clean store. The floor associates were not helpful, but I also did not ask for their assistance. And what do you expect at a dollar store. While in the store I did notice calls for backup cashiers which is a sign they monitor their lines and value their customers time. My cashier was also super friendly, which is also a nice touch when at retail establishments. You must visit this store if you like savings, dollar stores, good deals, or even to just kill time. I rate this store as being neat and clean and organized but I have a problem with one of the cashiers/supervisor who always works at check stand 1. She is very moody and has a bad attitude when you ask her a question about stock. She has even walked away from her line to straighten up her check stand and sort go backs while customers are waiting and looking at her in disbelief. She hollers across the store for her coworkers to take a break, so unprofessional and disrespectful. Today I went in for a hot item that was released and another employee showed me where they were so I picked up the last ones to buy them and she hollers out 2 check stands away and says did you call for those and I said yes about 30 mins ago then she gave me a dirty look. First of all what difference does it make if I called or not the 99 does not hold items it's first come first serve. I have had far too many bad encounters with her so now it's time to write a review, the next step will be calling corporate because she is in need of further training I will still shop at this store but will never get her line because of her rudeness. read more
