People have been raving about this place since they opened and we finally got the chance to check it out. The inside is really cute! There is a beautiful mural done by the fantastic Misael on the back wall. The tables are high top with bench seating against the wall, a bar in the middle and kitchen in the back. We were able to get a table immediately and our server was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We ordered the queso, crunchy beef tacos and tacos al pastor. They were at the verrrry end of the pastor but thankfully our order was fulfilled. I don't think they have the best pastor around and the beef in the crunchy tacos had zero flavor whatsoever. There are much better places in the neighborhood to get these same menu items, so while these were good for that night, it's not somewhere we will return.

Service is very slow but totally worth it. The tacos are amazing. Trey the volcán it's a crunchy shell but not hard and it's a great combo with their delicious prepared food. The shrimp and skirt steak tacos are amazing. Prices are very reasonable and it's a sit down restaurant. With delicious foods and great people watching. (More for adults if you go at night the neighborhood crowd is a hit risqué but fun ) The margaritas are a bit sour Totally worth it.

Great tacos in a lively setting with great service. I got 5 tacos and a bottle of coke for 190 pesos. That about $10 USD. Wow!

This place is the real deal! We stopped by on a bit afternoon after seeing that they had a few open tables and a lot of meats on the grill. My boyfriend got the volcan el pastor and hasn't stopped talking about it ever since. He told the chef that it was the best meal he's ever had and even got a photo with it! I am vegetarian and got the mushroom queso fundido and it was incredible! We also split a margarita pitcher to wash it all down and it was very generous for the price and very delicious. They also gave us fresh ice part way through the meal. We really felt like family here and had some amazing meals and drinks. Would highly recommend this spot!

Good tacos. They give you a salsa trio with tacos so you can choose from mild to spicy salsas. Tequila shots were expensive for the size of the shot. Other than that everything else was a very fair price. Service was great. Great outdoor seating.

    Tacos 25 pesos each

Really excellent lunch here today. I ordered a negro modelo and four tacos. I really like how you can get just one of each type unlike the places where it will be an order of 2 or 3. They're 25 pesos each with a slight upcharge for shrimp. The server brought out radishes and cucumbers along with the salsas. Two of the salsas were sooooo good (upper left and right in the photo attached), the other two I didn't like as much. Hard to say which taco I liked the best. The fish was surprisingly tasty. Pastor was good and I really liked the pork. Chicken was maybe my least favorite - not bad just a little boring. Total for lunch with a generous tip came to 200 pesos. Can't beat that! Would definitely recommend and return if I came back to PVR.

    Baked potato with chorizo

Food: Baked potato with chorizo: amazing combo! I had my doubts about this but it came recommended and I loved it. It has a ton of cheese but with the chorizo and salsa the flavors went really well together. Volcan taco: every one raves about these tacos but I didn't love it. It's basically a taco that is crispier and comes with melted cheese. The tacos are pretty small but affordable (40-50 pesos per taco) Tacos: again just ok but reasonably priced at 25 pesos per taco. Salsas: I loved the fake guacamole and that they came with lots of cucumbers and radishes for the toppings! Also the salt was helpful for rounding out the potato flavor. Service: fast! Ambiance: we sat outside and I enjoyed the hustle and bustle but not too busy vibe. Also, their branding is so cute! Love their logo, unfortunately I forgot to take a photo.

We went here several times on our trip! It's cash only and they give you excellent service and super delicious tacos loaded with tons of meat!

    al pastor, skirt steak, fish

Skirt steak and al pastor was bland, sauce lacked flavor. The tortilla was the saving grace. Maybe it was a bad day but wouldn't come back!

Al Pastor, Steak and Fish Tacos + Guacamole

Location is OK, by the street with busy cars and kinda smoky. Atmosphere though is friendly and local. Food was just OK. Among Tacos, Fish was below average. Pastor was average but Steak was really good! Guacamole was made on the spot was good to be fair! Nothing special about the service, it's just a hole in the wall kinda bar / cafe with Mexican food.

Steak nachos, huge plate, and fun to eat while having some beers!

Don Chava is a fun, vibrant and cool little spot, with both indoor seating with a cute bar and 3 or 4 tables outside. We had pastor tacos, and a huge plate of steak nachos, both were good, plenty of meat on both! The fresh salsas they bring out are yummy and actually spicy, which was great, accompanied by radishes and cucumbers. The food there is not going to blow you away, (well maybe it will!) but it is good, and the service is awesome. Sweethearts, all of the servers, and were happy to be there, making it a fun spot to eat and have a drink or two. It's cash only, but the prices are super fair, if you're in the neighborhood it's a cute place to try some tacos or share a big plate of nachos and a drink!

Carne asada tacos, nachos with refried beans and cheese. Diet cokes to drink.

It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. We paired that with the prime rib tacos, it was a plate stacked with meat and 4 tortillas under it, more than we could eat. The seasoning was great, it was diced so small that it was easy to eat. I got a virgin strawberry margarita, the wife got a coke. It was very affordable.

We ordered the ribeye, al pastor, and chorizo tacos. The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

Chips and three salsas come gratis. The pineapple habanero was a little hot for my tastebuds, but it had good flavor. The chipotle salsa was appropriately smoky and might've been my favorite. The green was more mild and fresh and also very good. I ordered three tacos: grilled shrimp, grilled fish, and the hibiscus flower and panela cheese. The waitress let me try a piece of the cheese before ordering since I'd never had panela before which I appreciated. That taco was probably my least favorite of the three- texture, not taste, but I like to try new things, so I'm glad I got it. There was a toppings bar for taco add-ons: limes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, and cilantro. Nice to be able to customize. Very reasonable cost, good flavor, good service, good atmosphere.

Had to walk for a while to find a working ATM. Started with the guacamole which was good (although we'd had way better in the afternoon from a little cafe near our hotel). Three salsas came with the chips and were ok. The yellow pineapple one sneaks up on you and is very spicy. Ordered two tacos. Wasn't really wowed. Margarita ok. They have outdoor seating, so it's fun to people watch. Service was unmemorable.

The first visit was fine so we went a second time. On our second visit, my husband asked about the pizzas and was told they weren't available. The courtyard in back does seem to have a new pizza oven installed but the wood sat beneath it unused. It wasn't working on our first visit either but we didn't ask about the pizza. If you are not going to fire up the pizza oven, at least advertise you do on Friday, Saturday and Sundays or whenever it is you do operate it. We seemed to be the first to arrive on our second visit. The guy who seated us changed the music to a rap genre he must have assumed we would enjoy more. We did not mind. As other dinners joined us we looked around to see their reactions to the songs and their naughty words. As we had hoped, two elderly ladies were seated and three songs into their visit Cardi B also arrived to sing "WAP". We were not certain if they were listening to each songs lyrics but they did sway back and forth in their chairs in tempo to the beat. That was fun. I wanted the chicken fajitas and the waitress returned to indicate they had no chicken. I was not sure if this was some Mexican version of the U.S. version of dealing with shortages in baby formula. I glanced toward the pizza oven and switched my fajita order to flank steak. They must have been sorry about the missing chicken and gave me a serving that would feed two. I asked for three extra tortillas and had the remainder boxed up as I wanted to pass it along to a hungry homeless person. Mission accomplished.

Sitting there, I realized I was witnessing a slice of intimacy with the locals that most travelers never touch. Half a dozen salsas in mismatched tubs of varying sizes power this taco stand. The hunks of pastor are heavily marinated, lightly perfumed with clove and cinnamon, delicious on their own. There is no Trompo spinning the meat, there is no theater to the preparation.. just the sound of the griddle sizzling up plump morsels. And the avocado jalapeño salsa... I would eat wet cardboard with that, it is that good. The ripe pineapple ties the whole symphony together like a cherry on a sundae. If there is a place of zen in the taco world, I found it. A fleeting experience that left me with a lasting memory of one of the great dining moments of my spoiled privileged life. This is not just tacos. This is transcendence.
