Went to 3 different people asking for its location only to be told "No more." Then to see other customers buying them in line. If they don't know, ask another employee they work with. Love coming here whenever we visit the island, reminds of a bit of Japan which is nice, they offer some products from Japan like their beauty section which is nice. This is a grocery store that sells a majority of Japanese goods. You can still find some items that you see at Foodland or Safeway, but their focus is on Japanese items. I don't really come here for groceries. I'm usually here for the hot ready to eat section, sushi or poke. The poke isn't bad. My favorites are the raw white crab poke and the garlic soy beans. Their raw fish is ok, but other places are better. I also like the Japanese snacks that aren't available at other grocery stores. I get uni flavored potato chips or the different varieties of mochi crunch. read more

I always avoid pronounce Don Quijote as I always say "the old Daiei". Most people understood anyway. The store changed name right before I left the island. I came here was because I was looking for coffee early morning. None of the food vendors offered coffee. So, I decided to browse at Don Quijote store. I usually walk to the store, even when I used to live in Waikiki. There was no exception this time. I didn't like to drive and try to find parking. The store was giant and overwhelming for me as a kama'aina, same as in 2006 when it first opened. This time, I am a tourist. I looked for unique souvenirs that Walmart doesn't have. I was glad that I went to check out the merchandise. Note to self: I need to bring a larger luggage for my next trip to do some gift shopping. read more

You enter to view cheap Hawai'i Souvenirs that challenge the 50 ABC stores in Waikiki, exotic electronics, salves, jams and a smattering of pharmaceutical products you didn't know you need. Produce, dairy, frozen foods and all types of colorful dry goods that you will spend at least 2 minutes each to figure out if it's an edible snack or cleanser. You've never seen so many seasonings for rice, noodles, seaweed or canned drinks with the name "Sweat" on them. Enter the cooked food area and your dinner plans at Roy's may change with the sheer variety of poke, bentos, fried pork, tempura and sushi. Need a sample of fish sperm, fermented soy bean natto or fresh water BBQ eel? Check. Sake, Chivas, Johnny Walker, or Korean beer, they will set you up, along with tiny erasers that smell like exotic durian fruit, the newest Narato gummy's or Hello Kitty black mechanical pencils. With prices so compelling, it's actually difficult to keep from throwing tiny things in your shopping basket. Hint: Eat before you shop here. Haven't been to this Donki in forever! Kaheka store is pretty big. It's right in the heart of the Ala Moana area, basically one block away from 24 Hour Fitness Honolulu. Donki is open 24 hours and they have plenty of free ample parking at the main storefront entrance with a two-story parking garage across the street. My bank, CPB, which use to have an in-store branch open 7 days a week. But due to Covid, they decided to permanently close that branch. What got my attention on this yesterday's visit was the abundance of food items in the Deli Department. I love how fresh and wide selection of bentos, sushi, salads, hot plates, curry, musubi. You name it, they might have it. Donki has to compete with the other surrounding grocery stores. They sell everything from meats, produce, baked goods, dairy, household items, pharmacy, Asian grocery and products, wine & liquor department, almost everything. I also stumbled upon a K-Pop Store. An abundance of Japanese items, if you don't mind paying a premium for goods imported from Japan. Love how they added a self-checkout aisle, that the environment is exactly like Donki in Asia, and there's a ton of sales associates throughout the store in case you need directions to a certain department. I'll be coming back frequently for dinner dishes from the deli department! read more

We just spent 3 weeks + in Oahu this past summer; how did we miss this supermarket?!?! Quality/Quantity - This place is huge, so much stuff to see and experience. See all my pictures. The most important departments in my opinion, LOL. Good prices, especially the ad items. The place is fully stocked, including fresh produce. Love all the food courts outside, so much selection. Back in the San Francisco Bay Area, most Japanese markets are compact spaces where their inventory is packed tightly together. However, the quaintly named Don Quijote is in a whole other ballpark entirely. With its massive variety of perishables and non-perishables, this 24/7 superstore is frankly the ideal Japanese mash-up of Walmart and Whole Foods but cheaper. Jamie W. and I knew nothing about this store until our airport taxi driver raved about it before he went into a tirade about what a rip-off the ABC Stores were. He was quite opinionated, so out of curiosity, we swung by for a look-see as it was a reasonable stroll from our hotel. Even though it was pretty busy, we loved it and spent time browsing the fully stocked aisles. Japanese discount store with the famous penguin mascot! Ha! So cute. Open 24 hours daily, making this a popular spot for locals and tourists nearby. You can find almost anything here. Groceries, alcohol, electronics, clothes, toys, garden stuff, bathroom essentials, hair care, makeup...etc! Sometimes veggies can be a hit or miss though. You can check their online weekly ad for deals. They have fresh seafood here too and even hot food items. Security guards at the front for safety, usually clean restrooms, pretty spacious, and can easily spend 1 hour here shopping through the aisles. The self checkout machines are really irritating though, very slow to scan and even process card which makes the self checkout line even longer during prime time. Also you cannot start bagging your items until you have paid and got your receipt or else the machine will notify a team member right away. read more

Love doing a quick stop through Don Quixote in Honolulu. They have great vendors outside but I have heard great things about their sushi. The nigiri was good and decent priced but maybe since it is packaged and sometimes sitting for hours it's not quite the tender butteryness you want! It's always busy here and there are fun finds. I found their calendars to be cheaper than ABC stores and maybe all their tourist trinkets and souvenirs in general. Always fun. read more

An authentic Japanese big box store right in the middle of Honolulu. How lucky are we? This place is amazing. If you are planning a visit, start making your list early. We came right before New Year's and everyone was there buying fireworks! They have every kind of noodle you could think of, a full aisle of sake and all the Japanese skincare you could wish for. I'm not sure when or if the Donki will ever open in Kapolei. Until then, this location beats the others in Waipahu and Pearl City. While the others also have food outlets, they can't compare to the Kaheka location. And not only are there many varied eateries but also top notch ones. And they seem 'current' like the inari bombs. And although they have a bakery (two if you include the one inside the store) it's not the "hip" ones from Taiwan or Korea. I went around lunch time and thought parking might be a problem. But it wasn't. There was actually plenty of parking in the front of the store. That's because people were always leaving so spots open up often. Prices are reasonable. And there is a good selection of Japanese goods. Almost like being in Japan. In fact the signs using their mascot is the same as in Japan. read more

Absolutely love this store. Hawaii is the only state in the US, other than Guam, to have a Don Quijote (I call it Donki) which is a Japanese discounted store. The other stores are only found in Asia so I consider myself very lucky to have this store here because I love shopping here! If you live in the mainland, it's similar to marukai or Tokyo central, only much bigger with a lot of household goods and cosmetics from Japan in addition to groceries. Also it's a great place to shop for Hawaii souvenirs, chocolates, mac nuts, trinkets, kids books with Hawaii themes, you name it. I come here to buy souvenirs for family and friends in mainland! I also love many Japanese products and they also carry them here. There's a brand of shampoo that I love. Even though it's advertised as a discounted store, the prices are not that discounted I'd say. They might be cheaper than other grocery stores but it's not that cheap. I'm surprised I've never wrote a review for this convenient asian super market just blocks from Ala Moana. It's con venue t location and ease of parking make it a great place for your shopping. They have loads of gadgets as well. And seasonal items. The liquor wines sake soju are very good. The premade foods are very good as well. An excellent selection of fresh seafood from Uni oysters to well you name it. The prices are ok I believe H Marr is much better. But this isn't bad. I go here quite often. read more

Woah! I wish I trusted in the recommendation from my friend to come the last time we were in Honolulu! We regret saving this place for the day we were flying out. In fact we almost passed this place up again this time around. SO glad we didn't. If you're in Honolulu, this is a must stop shop for Hawaiian souvenirs and foods to take home! It has so many things you can think of that's Hawaiian flavored. They have nearly a dozen Hawaiian favored pancakes mixes, several different Papaya seed dressings, snacks, chocolate covered macadamia nut everything, tons of different Hawaiian coffees, Hawaiian jams, the list is endless!! What I didn't realize was that they have a TON of Japanese/Asian style snacks that I've never seen before! We had some of the freshest mochi pieces here from a supermarket as well. I came a little later in the evening around 8pm to check the place out. I love that they're open late. You could spend forever in the store exploring everything. Unfortunately, all of the food stalls directly in front of the store were already closed. I saw that some food items were discounted inside the market where the all the deli & food items were, so decided on a poke bowl & a hotate nigiri. I didn't like the poke bowl at all. The ahi wasn't seasoned well, barely any sauce on it. I really enjoyed the hotate though, it was so delish. I would definitely get it again at such a good discounted price! We were near the Don Quijote Kaheka store 40 mins later. We went to return it. We were told that we could only get store credit??? This is a great hidden gem where you can get groceries, including poke, souvenirs, and let's not forget snacks or necessities. We got the poke and it was reasonably priced (similar to food land) and the souvenirs were so cute! They also had a great hello kitty and Pokémon section. They also have a variety of great Asian staples. Next time I'm in Hawaii I would come here on one of the first days I'm on the island.
