Wow, a really solid Tex Mex restaurant. Everything really solid. Great salsas, fresh chips, nice rice, passable refried beans. Really good crispy taco. Chile con queso is not on a real puff shell, instead on a formed crispy dome, common. Great service on our visit. The frozen margarita was excellent! A lot of attention to details in every facet of the meal. Great value allowing for the selections for a combo. Went to this place for the first time on Monday. The environment was clean and neat. We arrived at about 4:30 (early dinner may have been part of the problem). We received our Margs and chips a few minutes after we sat down. The chips were cold and stale, the red salsa was slightly warm and just ok. The green salsa was bland, yuck. After taking a couple of drinks from our margs, we looked at each other and grimaced. There was a strong bitter taste of dish washing soap in the drinks. We sent them back. Dinner came and my guest loved her quesadillas (sp). I ordered a combo plate with tamale, fajita taco, guac, rice, beans. The rice was about the best thing on the plate and even that was not very good. The tamale had almost no meat and was covered by a horrible cheese sauce. It would be a complement to say it tasted like it came from a can. The fajita taco had quarter inch chuncks of fajita beef in a small tortilla. Nothing else, completely dry. No onions, peppers, nothing. All there was to dress the taco was the pico which was OK. The beef was completely dried out and bland. I was very hungry or I wouldn't have taken the time to choke it down. To top it all off, you can get all of this for a mere $12-$13 (I forget which). A complete and utter rip-off. I went to this place on the recommendation on my son. Our tastes run alike when it comes to Mexican. We eat at mexican rests. about 2-3 times a week. He had nothing but good things to say about it and was totally surprised at my experience. The only explanation that might fly is that we were there very early for dinner and they weren't prepared. It was almost like they were serving food left over from lunch or the previous day. I felt sick the rest of the evening. I don't know that my son will ever be able to convince me to go back, but if I do, it will certainly be later in the evening between 7-9. This place sucks!! And I'm not talking about the food because I never got the chance to taste any food there. I walked in and asked to be seated outside. I was then seated outside. But I sat there for about 20 mins and no one brought me water chips or nothing. Two of the workers walked passed as they went to other tables. One of the workers was dealing with Carry outs. Both of them walked passed me as if I were invisible. So after wasting 20 mins of my time, I just got up and walked out. Maybe they do need my money I thought to myself. I was looking forward to this place opening; unfortunately, it was not worth recommending to anyone. When we got there, four hostesses greeted us and said there would be a 30-35 minute wait. Hoping the food would be worth it, that was okay. 45 minutes later, we asked one of the hostesses how long till a table would be ready (we had seen many families leave), and she gave us attitude, and said she had no idea. We could either sit outside (which she discouraged) or wait until they might have a table eventually... So, we sat outside, which, again, we were fine with except for her attitude. Then we waited for 15 minutes to get our order taken. It didn't take too long to get our food. But the food was sub par. I was thinking based on the high prices, it would taste pretty good. It didn't. The fish tacos were mushy and flavorless. The fajita salad didn't come with dressing. The fajitas were okay but priced too high for the amount given. I just wouldn't recommend since the food was fair (not 'good'), seating took so long and the hostess was incredibly rude. Nothing special about it. read more

The food was your regular Mexican Food. Nothing wow about it. It seemed to be all from a can. The place was nice new. But everything is pretty when it's new. They have to change the cook or it will close soon. I had the chili relleno and it was salty. The beans came from a can. And the rice was not all that. The tea was great. We always ask for Isaac when we come, best waiter! Food never disappoints and live music on some nights are fantastic. I always get the street tacos (1/2&1/2 meat) or the flautas. First off, when I think of a Mexican restaurant I think of chips and salsa. I was served biscuits and ranchera sauce. I don't believe that the house salsa should be what you use on all your dishes. You should have separate salsas for the chips and keep the ranchera sauce for the meals. Secondly, it's over priced for mediocre Mexican food. $42.95 for fajitas for two is ridiculous. This is not filet mignon or Taste of Texas. I do not mind paying for food especially if it's good quality but This place needs to be more creative on appetizers and realistic on prices. The waiter was very helpful and accommodating. The restaurant had a nice ambience, food not so much. Maybe they need to put as much thought into their food as they did into the atmosphere of the restaurant. Will not be coming back and I do not recommend it. read more

Service is okay. Husband and I live down the street and have been here three times. We've been disappointed the last two times by the food, but we tried the street tacos recently and liked the brisket ones a lot. Margaritas are STRONG. I'm talking everclear strong. The bartender didn't mention it, and after three "large" (pint glass sized) frozens and nothing else, I was sick drunk... I'm so happy that I wallked here from my apartment on Friday. Before I hit the front door, I said to myself that the food has to be good cause it smells great, and it was. My bartender Nester was great, and I loved the happy hour specials & margarita was on point! I ordered the verde enchiladas & they were so delish, I even ate all of the rice and beans on my plate lol. "Fine Mexican Restaurant" like the sign says...NOT!! We waited and waited and finally got some service and ordered some water and it tasted really bad. They finally got us some chips when the waiter noticed they did not bring us any. They don't seem to be very attentive. We asked for a large queso and never got it. We asked for NO lettuce with the side plate, but did get lettuce anyway. They charged us $4 for a kids apple juice, $3 for kid soda and $22 for fajitas for 1. When our chips ran out they never refilled or asked. We had to ask for more salsa. Summary The food is Ok, but definitely not worth what they charge. The service is seriously lacking. My son and I were in town for a baseball tournament and decided to try Don Ramon's. He had the Beef Fajita Enchiladas and LOVED them... They disappeared so fast! He really liked the enchilada gravy sauce. I had the Sopa Azteca... tons of vegetables and fajita chicken. Their rice is really good. The restaurant has that family owned neighborhood feel! What a disappointment! Haven't been here in awhile...Went this morning for Tex Mex breakfast. Arrived a few minutes after 10 am to join two other friends already outside on the patio. Restaurant was empty with only one other party seated at the back. Staff members were congregated at the end of the bar by the kitchen doors and watched me enter (no greeting or acknowledgement from them...) and proceed to the patio to join my friends. After a good 10 minutes with no service (my friends already have beverages and chips/salsa), I went inside to get help. Spoke to a staff member who struggled to understand I wanted iced tea. A different staff member finally came out and set down the tea and walked off while I was talking to her. We all had menu's and wanted to order breakfast. One of my friends went inside to tell them we wanted to order....nothing. Then, the other went in to tell them we want to order...nothing. After sitting on the patio for almost one hour, wanting to order....we got up and left. Too many other restaurants open for breakfast. Don Ramon's...if you are not open and not going to provide service to customers...please lock your doors and stop pretending to be open!! Will never go back!!! read more

I love this place .. I was there on the opening weekend because of the Manager Martin, he is the reason I came there. Martin came by and greeted us personally. I used to eat at Mamacitas on 45 where he was a manager and I had to follow him there. I took the wife and kiddos and we loved the food. I had the Conchinita Pibil wich is a very tender flavorful pork dish. The pork was juicy tender and had an awesome flavor. My wife had her fave Tex-Mex item, the quesadillas and my kiddos had the nachos. My wifey-poo had the raspberry rita which she loves. I had the Platinum Rita which I enjoyed. One thing I was happy to see was they had Don Julio 1942 that went well as an after dinner drink which went well with my dessert , the tres leches that I had ordered smothered w/ chocolate sauce. the service was attentive and professional. Was invited to a birthday dinner to Don Ramon's restaurant. Our party was a group of 22-25. AFTER we started ordering drinks and an appetizer(maybe 6 ppl arrived at this point) the waitress asks if we're doing all one check. We said we were doing it separate. She said that they "usually" do one tab for large groups because of drinks that go unaccounted for. In other words, unpaid for. I told her that it was a first I've heard of that. And reassured her that nothing will go unaccounted for. We told her the the one who set the reservation wasn't there yet. And that we'd speak to her about it. I have been to MANY restaurants (BOTH upscale and holes in the wall), and not one would force a single group tab on a whole party. And not anywhere on their menu nor website do they state for a single tab only rule... I feel like she (the waitress) was doing this solely to receive a "large party gratuity". If this were the case, she could of just charged a large group gratuity to each tab. Mind you, there would of only been 5-6 separate tickets. And she possibly could of received a larger amount in tips had she'd gone the extra mile. On top of this, she gave us the single tab receipt and a scratch paper for US to separate what each group/ticket had and she would charge that amount. Mind you, the tab was over $450. At this point, we are ready to go. Not to sit at a restaurant and do math and add tax percentages plus guessing how much the gratuity was. The waitress was just standing by the kitchen area laughing. Maybe at something else. Who knows. But we probably spent a good half hour trying to figure out 2-3 tabs. At this point, everyone is getting frustrated. Kids are ready to go. And the one who made reservations used her OWN birthday money to pay for the tab in cash. Just to drop this whole mess. The waitress showed no interest in trying to help or figure this out. She could of just said something along the lines of "let me ask my boss and see what we can do"... instead it was just "drinks go unpaid for and we usually do one tab."... no one ordered any alcoholic drinks. All fountains drinks, tea and water. The waitress then calls her manager over, AFTER we paid. And he asks about the service and issue. We told him what had happened. He said he was unaware of the situation and reiterated that unpaid for items has happened in the past. We assured him we wouldn't of left leaving food unpaid for. We told him it was a first we heard of. He later then said it could of been done separately, if needed!!!!!! But that the cash tab was closed and couldn't do anything about it. I then told him, that it could of been done separately from the beginning, like we asked. And all of this stress could of been avoided on both sides of the party. What a shame because the food was good but the situation was POORLY handled. Will never recommend this place and nor will I go there again. read more

Tonight we just left, BEFORE ORDERING, because they never brought chips or salsa to our table, or even water. The waiter then brought our large queso, and apologized that the chips were not there. He left. Chips Arrived, for the table next to us. We WAITED. Finally, we got up to leave. IMAGINE THAT...no one cared. SO, as we left, I asked for the manager, and he couldnt care less. He did not attempt to reconcile the issue in ANY manner. LOL! I laugh because he apparently thinks we have no alternative Mex places to dine. Well he can kiss mine. They lost our business and verbal support forever. It is just my 8 year old son and I, and we cannot afford to dine out often. We chose to come here. We can choose to boycott them, AND use my skills as a PR person and blogger to advise others as to what to expect. So...please DO TRY this restaurant, and decide for yourselves if you want to go BACK.
