This place is roomy so we didn't have to wait long for a table to free up. For drinks we ordered the passionfruit Caipirinha, sweet heat, Paloma, and Sunset in Old Town. Drinks we're good but my favorite was the Sunset in Old Town. As for food we started off with chips and guacamole - I definitely recommend. Tasty Guac! What a great way to end the week with my favorite person. Don Taco was my husband's pick and did they freaking deliver. Daniel was awesome. Love the updated look. Pleasantly surprised the fried avocado taco was fried in tempura batter and glad I at least got one solid Al Pastor. Jalapeño chimichurri is spicy for the average taste tester. Why don't they add "standard" taco fix-ins to most of the other tacos? Or at least the carne asada which is literally just the meat and onions (see photo below). Why are there no regular shmegular fish tacos? Renovations would probably help too but I know it's probably expensive in Old Town. We found parking on the street, which was easy during the week but could potentially be a hassle on the weekends. This spot is pretty small inside and has only a few tables but we were able to be seated pretty quickly. We ordered margaritas - I had the mango he had the strawberry - both were delicious!! As always I had a great experience at Don Taco. The customer service is always great at the bar. The drinks are good and strong and the food is tasty and consistent. My favorite item on the drink menu is The Exchange. It's a combination of a shot, sangrita and choice of beer. It is not a cocktail, but is such a delight. I do not know what was in the meat that they served, but all I can say is that I have had a waterfall come out of my ass for 5 hours straight. Every ten minutes I am running to the bathroom to absolutely obliterate my poor toilet. This is coming from a man who's had Bulgarian street food, Indian street food, and even sushi from 7/11. So, I'm a taco purest. Tacos are life. My favorite food, in fact. Grew up eating them since I was kid. Pepe's Tacos in Chi-Town. My Mom Dukes loved them and I sorta inherited her love of them. I can still hear her admonition to, "tell them people don't forget my extra peppers!!", resonating in my childhood ear as I exited the house to go retrieve them for her. She would take the extra peppers and stick them in the jar and let them steep for later. Her "witches brew", she called it, lol. I take my tacos seriously and I make them better (and larger) than 95% of the places that I can buy them from so I'm pretty particular. When I tell you I'm no fan of what I call "hipster tacos", I'm really not. These I would call hipster tacos. Tiny little street taco things that are more like a 3-bite hors d'oeuvres with all kinds of whimsical & creative toppings that deviate from your traditional carnitas or carne asada, lengua, or even birria these days. But for a Facebook group meetup here I probably would never have stepped foot in this place. Well, I was certainly wrong for prejudging. The food is really good! Bulgogi, Dilly Dilly, Bluefin - how I love thee. First bite: The Bulgogi/Korean Taco. This thing was ridiculously tender, juicy and well seasoned. Wow!!!! I was a little put off by the idea of peanut butter glaze but it was decidedly imperceptible, but that meat?? Wow. So good it melted in your mouth and obviously been slow cooked for hours upon hours. Next up was the "Bluefin" - seared quickly and coated in sesame seeds. Thinly sliced. Reminded you of sushi in a taco which seems weird but it actually works. Needed a little soy sauce though. Finished off this tasty trifecta with the "Dilly Dilly", which contains grouper. Grouper?!!? Grouper immediately attracted my attention since most places typically try to slide you tilapia or some other cheap fish in the fish taco. After tasting the seasoned crispiness of that fish I immediately wanted a big ole fish box of it with some fries to go - to douse in hot sauce later. Alas, that, they do not sell though. *sighs* I can wish though right? Had two or three margaritas including a spicy one with a couple of jalapenos which I immediately transferred to my tacos and the Long Island - said my goodbyes and bounced after a couple few hours. We love this place. We come here a few times a month for lunch and occasionally for dinner. Food is fun, simple, and reasonably priced. We normally order tacos (they have about 25 varieties)(I think their specialty) but they also have other things on the menu. My favorites are the blackened salmon, the bulgogi, and the spicy mushroom. My wife's favorites are the cauliflower, the avocado, and the chicken. Drinks are great too. I decided on trying the fried avocado and bubba gump shrimp tacos and both were simply delicious. At first I had a regular margarita which wasn't that good and then as I looked over, I noticed a holiday list of speciality drinks. Well, I was sure glad that I did because the peppermint margarita was the BEST I've ever had! I cannot stop raving about this because of their use of real candy cane on the rim of the glass. Aight, let's get this out the way, I'm big on customer service, I think that's very important. What that being said, I waiting at my table for about 15 minutes or more waiting to seen. Went last Friday for dinner and it was a decent meal. Nothing amazing but still good. The guacamole was probably my favorite part in relation to food as it was fresh and tasty. For drinks, I did like the drink I got which was the passionfruit Caipirinha. This was tasty and unique. Drinks were $12-15 which is average but at some spots in old town, a little high. For tacos, I got the bubba Forrest Gump shrimp one which was extremely spicy to the point it wasn't enjoyable. The buffalo chicken was good and the spicy shroom was also good. I'm used to receiving limes and sauce with tacos at Mexican restaurants so it was disappointing it didn't come with these. These were also pretty small so I'm glad we got the chips and guac. Service was good, nothing extraordinary. The price per taco was fair - $4.25 each. Both tacos I ordered were flavorful with tons of filling. The Al pastor taco had pork with great seasoning and freshly diced pineapple. WOW! I'm so glad this is the first spot we hit up in Alexandria... I'm in foodie heaven! We got the absolute best server! As soon as I asked Alex what I could eat as a Vegan, he immediately started building options for me and was clearly an expert in the menu's ingredients... "ok, you can't eat this because it has this animal product, and you can't eat this because it has xxx, and you can't have this, but we can replace it with xxx." It was amazing, it was so unfamiliar to have such a knowledgeable server, but this level of knowledge should absolutely be the standard and expectation of our servers. I ended up getting the avocado taco without the batter and the cauliflower taco. Both had the sauce/cream removed, and Alex brought me two green vegan sauces. The staff was really helpful and friendly, I try to get names but the conversations were so genuine I forgot to ask. The location is on King Street so you will have metered parking unless you catch them on Sunday like I did. They have two levels, we sat on the first floor overlooking the bar which had multiple infused tequilas. You are probably gonna spend and 75-100 depending on hunger.
