Travelers passing through Redding for the night and Donatellos peaked our interest, considering they carry a 4.5 star rating. Arrived on a Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, with only 2 other small tables occupied. We were greeted by the chef upon entry, and promptly asked to place our orders at the counter, then seat ourselves. We ordered 3 pizzas for the 3 of us and all were devoured; Salsicca (not pictured since it came out first and I forgot a picture), Margherita and the Bianca. We also ordered 2 on tap IPAs and a bottled Coke. We enjoyed the pizzas, great dough with a wonderfully flame fired taste, but the toppings left something to be desired. The Bianca could use something fresh like some lemon slices and definitely more basil, as I got one leaf per slice. Staff was friendly, dining area was clean and we'd definitely return again if passing through Redding. As a pizza snob, it's not the best I've ever had, but definitely a tasty pizza and worth a try. Kudos to the chef who mentioned he started on an Ooni. Quite the progression! As we were finishing our meal around 7:15p, I overheard them turn a customer away, as they had sold out of dough. I've never had a pizza this bad -well maybe one other time, but it wasn't here in Redding. The Neapolitan that they profess to do right is definitely the wrong way to make it. Yes it is supposed to be charred a little but not cremation of a pizza! I've had it before, but in the Bay Area. Not only was it burnt, but the miss shape was out of proportion or like the map of Montana! When I opened it, I was astonished and I started laughing, it was a comical pizza I thought to myself. I took a slice of it the good part and the dough was real chewy, and it was so limp it was hard to hold on to and on top of everything else they skimpy sausages! I should've paid attention to how many reviews they only had 77. Now a real good restaurant if you have a legitimate complaint will either refund the money or give you a complimentary next time. Thankfully we discovered this gem of a pizza place driving through Redding. Hands down best pizza we've had. 10/10. The restaurant literally focuses on the pizza craft. No extras. They have a soda fridge and only sell Neopolitan style pizza. You can definitely taste the difference. The crust is thin, airy, and very digestible. My 7 year old niece who loves commercial pizza really really loved it and asked if there was a Donatello's in the city we were at the next day because she wanted them for dinner the following day. Tried this new pizza place on a friend's recommendation and was very glad I did. Great pizza. There isn't another place like this in Redding. We tried three pizzas, sausage and basil, prosciutto and arugula, and pesto, they were all good. The sausage was our favorite, I really like the prosciutto and arugula but it won't appeal to all tastes if you're looking for an American style pizza-this isn't Hawaiian or pepperoni. I love the bitter contrast of the arugula with the meat and cheese. The pesto was also good. I'd highly recommend you try this place. The owners are very nice and service was excellent. Out of towners here, we use Yelp to help us decide where to eat. We came, we chowed down and left. The pizza was SO good and fresh (if I lived here I can't see getting pizza elsewhere). the people were nice, and the pizza came out fast in the middle online orders. First off the service was amazing. My friend and I got there at 7:30 and they closed at 8. They were very accommodating regardless of the amount of time that was left. I'm from Las Vegas and have had different varieties of pizzas, but let me tell you that this place is one of the best in my book. We had the salsiccia pizza and it was so tasty! The crust was light and fluffy and the tomato sauce is delicious. The workers even brought us marinara sauce to try with our pizza and the sauce alone was delicious. I could drink it! Hands down the best Neapolitan pizza in Redding. The crust was perfectly cooked with that ideal balance of crisp on the outside and soft, slightly doughy goodness on the inside.
