Craving pasta [Redding CA] Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening... the restaurant is located in Redding. We had an hour before closing time and the place was almost empty but our server still demonstrated a positive and cheerful demeanor. She said we could sit wherever we'd like. The dining room was spacious with a lower section (two steps down) that had more indoor dining. There is a huge flatscreen by the bar. Hubby and I shared an order of Spaghetti and Meatballs and a side of Garlic Fries w/ ranch dip. Loved the garlic fries... so crispy and with a good amount of garlic flavor. Serving size for the spaghetti was well portioned. I shared with the hubby and we still had leftovers. Tonight my wife and I were craving some Italian food so we decided to come to Pasta Pronto because we were tired of having Olive Garden so much. Which isn't authentic Italian anyway. I ordered the Penne with Marinara and Meatballs and my wife ordered the Tortellini with Carbonara. My food was absolutely delicious and the Meatballs were on point. My wife's Carbonara had way too much Garlic so we had to send it back. What was really great was that the staff at the Restaurant said that they would make us something else and did without hesitation. Ordered two chicken Alfredo's and a side salad with ranch. Alfredo sauce literally tastes like watered down jarred pasta sauce. Garlic bread practically burnt with no flavor of garlic whatsoever. We had no issues with the service or cleanliness of the restaurant, they were nice enough but the food is not good. Chicken and Shrimp pasta had a strong fishy taste and the sauce tastes like jarred sauce, has that unique smooth texture and watery flavor of jarred Alfredo. The kids spaghetti and meatballs was also not great, meatballs were frozen from a bag, also not made in house. All the pastas were a little overcooked and soft, not al dente. Even the garlic bread side wasn't good. It didn't have garlic flavor so maybe it wasn't garlic bread, just grilled bread? It wasn't any kind of italian bread, tasted like the dense bread that comes in school lunches if that makes any sense. basically you will be paying restaurant prices for reheated premade food you can get in the freezer section. read more

The food was absolutely delicious & I enjoyed every bite, especially the fried zucchini! The service could have been better since I modified my salad to have no bacon & cheese but they brought it to me with everything on it. My cousin also wanted a coke to drink but the waiter said, "Pepsi, fine?" & she said it was okay. Then she looked at the menu, & saw that coke was one of the drink options & thought it was odd that they offered her a Pepsi instead. The shrimp scampi with fettuccine is delicious the only issue is they live the tails on the shrimp. My suggestion is take the shells off put them in the pasta water cook the pasta discard the shells before serving. It would make it so much better plus you get to eat the shrimp. read more

I got zucchini in my salad instead of cucumbers and the salad mix was limp and lifeless. The Alfredo 100% came out of a jar which is sad because it's a simple sauce to whip up. I had my phone stolen today at my hotel. And Pasta Pronto took my mind off of all the drama. The place is a nice spot. The red and rock walls gives Pasta Pronto an aura that makes you crave wine and olive oil bread. My friend and I ordered the same dish (Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara with a salad) and she has been coming here for over ten years and she demanded I show love and keep it real on this place. The people are nice. The location is convenient and clean. The food is presented well and taste great. As much as I'd like to eat here, it's been a long day so we took it back to the hotel to eat there. I highly recommend this place for anyone that is craving pasta. read more

Came here because it's relatively close to our house and my fiance thought he'd seen a "Pasta Pomodoro" that just opened here. Nope, it's Pasta Pronto with a Grand Opening sign on the front. (Apparently, there's one on Hilltop according to Yelp.) I ordered the Chicken Florentine, and my fiance ordered one of the specials - NY Steak Dinner. The menu insert said it came with Caesar salad, Fettuccini Alfredo, and garlic bread. We also ordered a Pepsi and an unsweetened iced tea. When the food came out, fiance had to send his back - he is deathly allergic to shrimp and there were some on the top of the steak. I asked for more napkins, and the server acknowledged my request. His corrected plate came out with another server. Still no napkins. Fiance wanted hot sauce and steak sauce so I went up to the bar to ask for that and more napkins. Hot sauce and napkins were delivered to the table but we were informed no steak sauce in the establishment. He shared a piece of his steak with me and it was delicious - perfectly seasoned, a great cut of meat, and cooked precisely to his order of medium rare, which is how we both prefer. The Chicken Florentine was equally amazing, with slightly al dente pasta, tender grilled chicken, tangy tomatoes, and the ideal amount of spinach and mushrooms. We finished our food and got the check. I should note here that the drinks were $3 each and we were not offered refills at any time. The food was great, but it wasn't busy here (at least it wasn't until after we got the check and a party of 20 came in) and the service was really lacking. We probably won't be back, which makes me sad because this appears to be a family-owned business and we do love supporting small businesses. What comes out of the kitchen is amazing, they just need better execution on the service aspect. read more

We were craving Italian and decided to give this place a shot and OMG it was delicious! I got the pasta sampler, it comes with chicken piccata, Alfredo pasta and lasagna, I'm not a fan of lemon flavor but the piccata was amazing! DO NOT EAT HERE! I found a pice of wire (BBQ grill brush type wire,) in my ravioli. Spoke to the manager and they were going to refund my money. I was staying at a local hotel, did not have transportation. He was going to bring it to me. Never showed up. The food tasted good, but do you really want be served food by someone with the attitude, "Yeah, it happens." WHAT??? Swallowing a pice of wire can cause serous health issues, or death. A quick search of menudo in Redding draws up five taquerias, one which no longer makes the tripe soup on the weekends. Few things are as disappointing as waking up early on a cold weekend morning craving this comfort dish only to find they no longer serve menudo. Which is why I needed to write this review - for those like me who enjoy the authentic homemade soup, the best place I've found thus far in Redding is not in a taqueria, but in a homey little Italian family restaurant called Pasta Pronto. I've not come here for anything except their Mexican food, which is the real standout: Menudo: Their menudo is served the way I prefer it, without hominy; made with love from a family recipe, simmered for 4-5 hours with pork trotters as the base of the broth and the classic honeycomb tripe as the rest. Served with wedges of lime, a side of freshly minced white onion and cilantro, and (drumroll please) HANDMADE corn tortillas. Not quite as fragrant as the ones my best friend makes, because she makes her own masa while these are made from dried corn flour but hey, this is still a big find for a tiny town like Redding! I love the sweetness/crunch/bite of the onion combined with the twist of lime and the collagen-rich broth which revived me after working 24hr shifts. $11.99, served only on weekends. Tacos: For $3 you can order street tacos with carne asada, pollo, al pastor, and my favorite, the chicken fajita taco (chicken grilled with bell peppers and vegetables). I like to request mine with the handmade corn tortillas. The best part is that you don't have to cross the border for these - the meat is sliced and stacked on top of raw pineapple and then slow grilled outdoors for two hours until crispy at the edges and juicy in the middle, the pineapple enzymes having tenderized and seasoned the meat. You can smell it from the parking lot because it IS in the parking lol. $3 each Sopes: Kind of like a Chicago style street taco if you can envision a deep-dish version of a street taco, but layered with a thin layer of refried beans and taco filling of your choice, topped with freshly cut lettuce and a slice of tomato, drizzled with creamy sauce and crisped a bit prior to serving. Delicious, especially with a drizzle of their spicy sauce! These are very filling, so try one before you order anything else. $4 Martin (pronounced Mar-TEEN) is the proprietor. He immigrated from Guerrero, Mexico at the age of fifteen and brought with him his mother's recipes. We are all the luckier for this! 8 years ago he took over the Pasta Pronto Restaurant, and only 1 year ago began offering Mexican food as a special which has taken off, as it deserves to. This place is very family friendly (large tables, booths) and with fresh flowers at each table. They serve beer, wine, Mexican coke and Jarritos and also a self-serve soda fountain. They take credit, cash, etc but not checks. You order first from the counter and then they bring the food to you. Warm and friendly service tops the experience.
