Every time I've eaten at the Mandarin location they are friendly and get my order to me fresh out of the oven. I place the order on my app so I can earn points, but I eat in the restaurant fresh. I'm originally from Ohio, so I was excited when Donatos made its way to Jax. I placed a pickup order online for two hours later and was a little worried they might make my pizza too early. But when I got there, they told me it was just going through the oven and that they time orders close to pickup so everything stays fresh. True to Donatos' motto, my pizza had edge-to-edge toppings. This is a place we always wanted to try but there are so many pizza joints out here. We decided to stop at Donatos. The restaurant is above average and more spacious than most pizzeras. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch salad. While the dynamic duo, my wife and grandson ordered the individual pie. The salad was on the small side but very tasty. The lettuce was fresh but I only received one packet of salad dressing, Pauls Newman dressing. The individual pizza were hot and cheezy. Wifey ordered extra cheese. If your order is $50 or more, you spin a wheel and win free or discounted items off Donatos menu. We were shy $17. No line, no wait. We came right when then opened. Donato is similar to a pizza hut, Papa Johns or dominos with a dining room. Nothing to really brag about. read more

#ThankfulThursday My T.T. Shoutout goes to Donato's Pizza; my pizza joint BFF and Jacksonville's only edge-to-edge pizza shop. This is Donato's 2nd and newest location. I often get that "hoodafukyouthinkyouare" look every time I request a pizza shop to stretch their ingredients all the way to the edge and quite honestly, they screw it up anyways. Donato's edge-to-edge solved this for me. I love me a crust-less pizza. The less crust the better, that's just my preference. This shop is so much closer of a drive for me. Their crust & pizza tasted delicious. It is a win-win. I cannot wait to come back here again. They have different items to offer that I really want to try. I gave it 4 stars only because it took forrrrrrrever to get my pizza. Where's the service!?! There were 6 staff working and I was THE ONLY CUSTOMER, yet it took over 30+ minutes to get my pizzas. The cleanliness of the place was good during our visit. The restaurant was well-maintained and even though there were only a few staff members, the one up front was attentive and ensured that everything was clean and tidy. An observation we made was that the majority of customers seemed to be picking up their orders rather than dining in. This gave the impression that their takeout service was quite popular. Donatos, Old. St Augustine Rd. was excellent when the first opened, but it went down hill very quickly. As of 3/29/2025, there supreme pizza has NO FLAVOR at all. Cheesy bread is exactly that..bread with cheese and no FLAVOR, not even a hint of salt. They don't chop the green bell peppers..I have NEVER had 7-8 chucks of green pepper on 1 slice of pizza. I was back and forth about posting a review since the owner was so generous to provide this group I'm in with a free large 2 topping pizza with purchase.. however I can't get over just how bland and boring our food was. We got a "famously thin" with Roma tomatoes and fresh mozzarella... (as you can see it's not thin..) def not what I was going for but. I got small cut thinking 16 slices instead of 8 big ones but it was cut in squares. That's on me. I asked for light sauce on pizza which I did receive however I did not get my ranch or packets of peppers and Parmesan as requested. The taste was so bland, it looked like it had seasoning on it but you couldn't taste it. The wings were dry and tasted old. We ordered Parmesan wings and I swear they didn't put any seasoning on it besides parm cheese.. no salt no nothing. Luckily I had some wing sauce in the fridge otherwise they'd end up in the trash. I was initially excited to try Donato's because I had heard great things from people who went to the one at the beaches. We went to the restaurant planning to eat in. It's very reminiscent of like a Hungry Howie's. It's counter service (which is fine) and they provide everything as if your order was to go. Paper plates, individual packets of Parmesan and red pepper flakes, etc. The pizza was provided on a pan, however. We ordered the fresh jalapeños as an appetizer. It has bacon and cheese inside a halved jalapeño. It really didn't have much flavor. The jalapeño was not spicy at all and you couldn't really taste what it was stuffed with. I wouldn't order it again. We also ordered a medium double bacon pepperoni pizza. One thing I did like was that it was thin crust which was good. But I hate they way they cut it up. I didn't remember to take a picture but they cut it into small strips and squares instead of the typical triangle slices. It was hot and messy. Maybe this is fun for little kids, but I didn't enjoy it. It would be nice if when you ordered if they asked if you want it cut that way or not. But the overall taste of the pizza was good. And the price was fair. I am just disappointed in the overall experience. Not sure if I'll go back. Glad I tried it, but it wasn't a hit for me. read more

I grew on the north side of Columbus Ohio. My grandma lived right down the street from Tamarac circle where the original Donatos pizza was located. What I was served at south side mandarin Donatos didn't look anything like what Donatos we grew up on. mr Grote would be appalled by the product that is coming out of this location. My Mom loves cauliflower crust vegetarian pizza. I recently got one to go for her. They cut it into small pieces making it easy for her to eat. It was so nice for them to do a small cut for her as at 95... it is quite easy to eat. The pizza was delicious. The people who made it and took my order were very hospitable and kind. Picked up some pizza here today for a work event and Donato's did not disappoint. We ordered two pepperoni, two cheese, one supreme, and one sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. Which were delivered in a large box that housed 7 pizzas. Super helpful if you are the person tasked with getting the pizza for the group. All pizzas were well cooked, loaded with toppings and visually pleasing. Additionally, the small rectangular cuts of thin crust pizza they use are great for a crowd and allow for sampling of different flavors. The pizza was well loved by everyone and some who had never had it before remarked how they would order it in the future. I have also heard that their cauliflower crust pizza is amazing but I did not get one today, next time. Yes since they are now using a answering service for their orders there needs to be some updates as I had no idea when calling that I wasn't speaking with the actual location until my second call. Also I do appreciate Justin's response to my review and am changing my rating to reflect that. You don't usually see a response like his these days & I can understand & feel for him that his business is having employee issues as so many are. Donato's definitely stands out among other Pizza places. Using Smoked Provolone Cheese instead of the basic mozzarella really gives the pizza a unique and flavorful kick. I'm definitely a big fan of the edge to edge amount of pepperoni they have, but you also can't go wrong with any of their other choice of toppings. Now with a second location in Mandarin they are clearly growing in popularity with the Jacksonville community. read more

Not sure what the hype is about this pizza. Got it for free from a work luncheon. I tried the cheese and pepperoni pizza. Thought the cheese was completely flavor less. I saw other reviewers say they use provolone cheese? There's a reason why everyone uses mozzarella. Provolone is a nice cheese and all, but it's not the strongest in flavor and shouldn't be used solely on pizza. The pepperoni itself was very good and plentiful, but that's all you'll taste. The crust was fine. Super thin, chewy little squares. Sauce was decent. Brought some home for dinner for my 8 yr old so I didn't have to cook. His review, "this pizza has no flavor." Worst service & food ever! If you're going to hire teenagers you need to teach them how to respect customers! And teach them how to work on your system! At 8:46am I ordered a 7" personal pizza with mushrooms and roasted garlic, jalapeno popper app and boneless wings with mild sauce and blue cheese to be ready at 12pm for pickup. I arrived exactly at noon and was told the pizza was still in the oven and would be another 5 minutes. As I waited, several other customers came in and were given the same excuse. TWENTY minutes later we are all still waiting for our orders (7 of us in total). I asked for an update and was told the pizza was ready and just waiting to be cut before boxed. Five minutes later I am still waiting and I mentioned to the blond haired teenager that I was out of time and to please just put it in the box without cutting it. She walked away. I then asked the other dark haired teenager how cold would the rest of my food be since it has been sitting there for 20 minutes while waiting for the pizza and she said it was under a heat lamp staying warm. The blond haired teenager who walked around the wall to the kitchen could be heard telling the cook "just put it in the box and don't cut it, she is yelling at me that she is tired of waiting". A room full of customers all heard this as she was next to the open pass through window which is behind the counter we were all standing at, basically less than 10' away. I have never been so humiliated! This girl should be FIRED for talking about a customer much less within earshot of other customers. And I did not yell at her, I was just very stern. If I was yelling she would know it because I would have made her cry! While we all waited for our orders a doordash delivery guy showed up and they couldn't find his order in their system after 10 minutes of "I don't know's". They then asked the cook to help them! The poor guy doordash just left in frustration. When I finally got my order, the bag with the food that was supposed to be under the food lamp was ice cold. I didn't even bother to say anything because I was so mad & frustrated and at that point they had made me late getting back to work for a meeting. When I opened the box the pizza was missing the roasted garlic and there was NO sauce for my wings. The pizza had ZERO flavor. The crust tasted like cardboard, I'm assuming since I've never actually eaten cardboard. The sauce was flavorless, at least I think there was sauce on it. I took 2 bites and threw the rest away, it was inedible and a terrible waste of money. The jalapenos looked nice in the box but again were flavorless, hard to believe since it had cheese & bacon on them. Also the peppers were very undercooked. I've never eated crunchy jalapeno poppers before, it was actually a bit disgusting. They too went out with the backwater! Another waste of money. The 6 little boneless wings looked pitiful in that big box they put them into and of course I had no sauce for them. They tasted like something I would have made at home with a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce. They were so spicy (remember I ordered 'mild sauce'?!) I could barely stand to eat one (my mouth was on FIRE!) but since I threw the rest of the food away & I was starving, I sucked it up & ate them. I now regret that decision :( They also don't offer celery or carrots. If you're going to have wings on the menu, celery & carrots are customarily offered. For my boneless wing fix, I will go the extra miles to Red Robin, so worth it, the best!! Don't let the pretty menu on the website fool you. The food was less than up to par and nothing to talk about. The service was the worst in the county. But how much can you really expect when you leave your business in the hands of inexperienced and untrained teenagers?! This will run your customers out the door in a heartbeat especially at lunchtime, the busiest time of the day. I can tell you I was not the only frustrated customer standing there. The others were starting to gripe as I walked out the door with my cold and unbeknownst to me, disgusting food. If this keeps up I can promise you won't see repeat customers and you'll close your doors in 6 months. As for me, I gave you guys a go but won't waste my time or money here again. I'll keep taking my business to Brooklyn Pizza in Bartram Park. Undeniably the best if you want true NY pizza and great service! ------------- In response to your reply Justin: The length of time the restaurant has been open should not have made a difference in the level of service I received. If all you got from my review was that my "order was affected" then you need some training as well as the worst part of my experience was the embarrassment your employee caused me.
