There are breakfast places and then there's Don's. Don's Country Kitchen is located on the bustling Oceanside section of the Pacific Coast Highway and due to its excellent service and one particularly unique line of stuffed hash brown breakfast entrees, was a terrific place to grab a awesome breakfast with friends on a hazy Marine layer filled day. Our party waited well less than the initially estimated 40 minutes to be called in, but the restaurant's efficient and up-to-date virtual wait in line service gave some us ample time to grab some coffee nearby without having to worry about missing our call. Because we also had a hungry child in the party, management was awesome with providing him with crayons and coloring sheets and prioritizing his food to come out first. As for my food, it was delicious, heavy enough, and a great value for the $17.95 I paid. I got the Don's Stuffed Hash Brown and with its layers of spinach, mushrooms, and a topping of avocado sandwiched between layers of hash browns, I couldn't feel too guilty about the jack cheese and bacon mixed in with all those other ingredients. Since the stuffed hash brown was packed with so much flavor, I felt like I didn't even need to add a lot of ketchup on the top. great food! huge portions and cool twists on the hash brown omelet thing. i loved the food, service at the table was nice. the only big drawback is their awful line and host system. they have one person manning the stand at the entrance who's also taking groups to their table and sometimes running to the back. we waited at least 10 minutes just to get our name on the waitlist (which was another 40min wait) and the host just continuously ignored us while we kept trying to put our name down with him. we were finally seated and service was fast after that. i'd love to come again for the food but I would like to try to go when it's not their busy hours. read more

Awesome service. Our server was great. One side of table had a sausage biscuit, and couldn't decide about the cinnamon roll. The decision was rendered as our server was right on target bringing it just after the sausage biscuit was finished. On the other side of the table, blueberry pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and hash browns and coffee. Delicious. It was a bit on the cool side this morning so the radiant heater over the table offered great comfort. Other portable units in covered patio were being cranked up as was the number of people arriving. Glad we beat them in. Parking is limited on-site, but we scored a spot on street about a block up. I got the FRISCO BURGER (1/3 lb ground beef patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and 1000 island dressing on grilled sourdough cheese toast) with extra crispy fries. now that most sit-down restaurants have gone to 1/2 pound burgers the patty seemed small but everything else worked. Wyatt had BEA's STUFFED HASH BROWNS (two layers of hash browns with bacon, avocado, and jack cheese topped with two eggs over easy and hollandaise) and enjoyed it enough to green-light adding my version to his regular breakfast rotation at home. the wife-unit went old school and ordered the TRADITIONAL BENEDICT (toasted English muffin, Canadian bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise with hash browns). Unfortunately Don's Country Kitchen fell short of our expectations. Our brunch overall had okay, nothing standout, food. Service wasn't very attentive (our server didn't check on us at all after serving us). The eggs Benedict was also on point. The eggs were poached just right and the hollandaise had a smooth, buttery flavor without being too heavy. Everything was well-seasoned and came out hot. What I appreciated most was how easy everything felt. The servers were kind, the food came out quick, and I never felt rushed even with people waiting for tables. We were seated within 15 minutes. Plenty of seating available inside and out. We loved the decor in the patio area. We had a few laughs. I ordered the special that morning, Green Chilaquiles. I've had my share of this dish. It's one of my favorite Mexican breakfast dishes. That being said, overall great dish. Everything was made very well. Tortilla chips were crispy, egg was made perfectly, a little runny. The salsa was good. It was not spicy at all. The Peach Waffle was delicious. We did have to wait a while for a table, as did many others in the parking lot. The ambiance is of an old relaxed diner. It was old farm furniture, but it works. But it was also a wait for the food. Our small table looked even smaller after they put the huge plates stuffed with food down. Big portions and filling food. The Stuffed Hash Browns were recommended by the waitress after we announced our selves as new customers. First time for everything! So we ordered them. We got one Don's Stuffed Hash Browns and one Country Stuffed Hash Browns. We should have shared one order. We enjoyed 1/2 our meals and took the rest home. We walked about 2 miles just to get here because it happened to be a day the buses weren't running. When we finally arrived, there was a line to put your name in for a table. However, we only had to wait maybe 10 to 15 min at most on a Sat morning. The food was very good. I ordered scrambled eggs and bisquits and gravy. On the holidays online and phone pickups would be turned off which was annoying because I want my treat. They have big selection of tasty dishes on their menu at a fair price. The restaurant got so popular that they had to expand the seating area into parking lot to accommodate all the hungry guests. During our last visit we ordered egg Benedict and machaca. Both dishes were equally delicious and very filling. The poached eggs oozed out as expected and machaca was very flavoursome. Make sure to order extra helping of tortillas to enjoy the whole machaca plate. Everything was seasoned right. Don's Country Kitchen is worth the stop. Service is prompt and attentive which is always a plus. Food was a solid 4/5. I ordered the shrimp omelette and my wife got the chicken fried steak. Gravy on the fried steak could go on anything, it is delish. The shrimp omelette is okay, but I think if the shrimp inside the omelette was cooked with some flavor it would really add to the experience. I highly recommend the caramel macchiato.
