I saw a review on here about a two for one margarita night... We were fortunate for it to be the night we came last night! The bf got a Maker's Old Fashioned (apparently they are known for their old fashions) and he was VERY pleased, "the best he's ever had." I got a margarita because they were two for one, I was pleased with it, I usually don't order margaritas out of state (we are from Texas) because they aren't ever good. I enjoyed these two, especially the free one. We got a dozen oysters for an appetizer, they were seriously the best we've ever eaten. We try oysters in every state we go to, these were fresh, very flavorful and reasonably priced. Wednesday nights are all you can eat boiled shrimp for $16.99. I got that and my bf ordered the blackened redfish. Both were excellent and we were satisfied. Great service, the waiters and waitresses work as a team. You can also make reservations on the Open Table app which was a bonus, there was a wait for tables and as soon as we walked up and said our reservation, we were seated immediately. read more

My expectations was high and excited about eating a crab dinner at Don's.. I really loved the crab au gratin in the past. Well this time when I went at the Johnson St. location, the au gratin had a flavor of nacho cheese and the spinach crab dip had imitation crab meat and the manager insisted that it is not in their building.. but I know what I tasted. The original Dons is no longer open and I have never eaten to this location and Hands down, crab lump meat had so much cheese ???? What were they trying to hide with so cheese?? This place is over the top! We had Shrimp Taceauxs (tacos) and Blackened Catfish topped with Crawfish Etouffee over a bed of rice, Chicken and Andouille gumbo and Crawfish Bisque. For dessert we shared some Bread pudding with rum sauce. Everything was awesome good. We bought a quart of gumbo to take home! Ansley and Logan were our servers and couldn't have been more helpful. We visited Don's for the first time to celebrate a special occasion. We ordered the seafood spinach dip and it cost a lot for an appetizer and was disappointing however our wait staff suggested it. We ordered the seafood platter, steak and a dozen oysters as another appetizer. Our salads were brought to the table with the main courses. The expensive seafood platter had store bought quality frozen stuffed crab and shrimp which I thought tasted exactly like those in the freezer section. The oyster appetizer still hadnt made it to the table after the main course was brought to the table so we cancelled it. Overall I was disappointed and I spoke to the manager on the way out. She apologized but its easy to apologize its harder to pay 100.00 for food that isn't up to par with the freezer section of your local discount grocer. read more

I love seafood but I was not impressed with this restaurant. My crab claws had shells all in them, my bisque did not taste very good, but the hush puppies were excellent. We had a good time at Don's. Our bartender was really great, always attentive and filling our glasses, gave recommendations. We had the boudin balls, which were really great. They have happy hour with BOGO margaritas and beer, which we definitely took advantage of. And they had crawfish for $3 a pound - what an amazing deal! They were really well seasoned. The sides we got with the crawfish (mushrooms, corn, potatoes) were a little subpar, but in the grand scheme of things, everything else was so great, we would come back. The food here was pretty good make sure you try the charbroil oysters and request the buttered fresh bread along with it it's a great appetizer. The hush puppies are good too. Katie was a fantastic server! She really made Father's Day special for my 90-year-old grandfather-in-law.

We had a big group and we did have to wait an hour. The table they intended to put us at wouldn't get up and leave so they offered us outside and we took it. The manager was so nice and gave us 5 appetizers on the house. Once the table inside left they offered to move us all inside. We declined and stayed outside. The waiter did they best he could with our large group. A tray of drinks was dropped and it took another hour to get our food. I think everyone is adjusting to the new regulations due to Covid. The food was superior and worth the wait. We had the 1/2 shrimp 1/2 catfish, shrimp Alfredo. The appetizers were also amazing. The food was good , especially the grilled oysters . I was very disappointed with being cheated on the mixed drinks. My party had gotten drinks from the bar that were worth the price. When we ordered the same drinks at our table, they were only half full. This happened twice before we noticed. I think this is a sorry way to make a profit and I was embarrassed to be the host , mentioning this to our waitress. She said she would make it known to the bartender, but we were finished. Oh my gosh. I have been gushing about how fantastic this place is to everyone. I am from Arizona so what do I know about "fresh" seafood. We have to travel to Cali to get anything fresh and I've been to Florida to try their oysters too but dang Louisiana has got them ALL beat. I love this place and will be back for more . I think this place is a tourist trap. I am from New Orleans, and could not believe the poor service, poor food and inflated pricing. I ordered the 'famous' crawfish etouffee and it was served to me cold. Not even room temperature. I was actually wondering if it was frozen and just heated up---NO WAY that was a roux. Crawfish tails coating in some gelatinous cheap corn starch gravy seasoned with zatarrains. Husband's food was also cold. The jumbo shrimp were a joke. Service was awful and they weren't busy!!! I let the manager know that this did not meet our expectations and it was a really unpleasant experience. I could've looked past the bad service but food too???? Manager gave me two 20% off coupons for our next visit. I paid my bill and left the coupons on the counter. Will NEVER visit here again. What makes this place special are the people and the food, in that order. The hostesses are amazing and so is the wait staff. We were in town on a family emergency and we found ourselves searching for food at 9pm Friday and so we found Don's was open later. We were greeted at the door so nicely and then we got a ginger haired waiter (I apologize for not getting his name). He was spot on for all recommendations and provided excellent service! Each dish was consistently great! The gumbo, boudin balls, salmon, and potato salad. It was so great that when we went to our dinner on Saturday night at another restaurant 2 cities away, we decided to just pay for our drinks and appetizer, and leave to head back to Don's! Friday's waiter at Don has set the bar so high that our lunch and then dinner choices fell short so we decided enough was enough and back to Don's we went. So Saturday night we got Tigre for a waiter and he was also amazing! We felt like we were talking to an old friend and all of the food was amazing! We had the ribeye, Bone in cajun ribeye, stuffed potatoes, salad and boudin balls. Also, the drinks were great as well! I was greeted soon as I walked through the door and sat very promptly. I was in town for work, and this is one of the places that was recommended by the locals. I started off with the seafood gumbo which was very rich in flavor. There were a few crab shells I crunched on through the process but that just let's you know it's fresh right? I came in on a Sunday afternoon, sat at the bar, and had the absolute pleasure of being taken care of Chandler. First and foremost, the service was excellent. Chandler offered a variety of recommendations and was very attentive without being overbearing. The crabmeat au gratin was served piping hot and was full of flavor. The French bread served on the side was fresh and complemented the au gratin well. The surprise on this dish was the green beans. Normally, I could take or leave them but these packed some serious savory flavor. I could have ordered a few more servings to say the least. The stuffed potato was also good. There wasn't anything noteworthy about it but tasty nonetheless. My aunt's chicken tenders were great and crunchy. That's what these three stars are for, plus great hushpuppies. The gumbo was OK. But dirty shrimp that hadn't been deveined ruined my Zydeco shrimp.
