I ordered while I was on the go. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes and it was in fact ready on my arrival. I placed an order for the crab fried rice and spring rolls. The rice was fine nothing to brag about ... the place I used to get it from (which was amazing) changed owners and changed flavor so now I'm on the hunt for a new spot. Unfortunately, this won't be it. I can say they do use lump crab meat and not that shredded looking crab that you find in cheaper crab soup's. I have posted a picture of the rice and the crab you see on top was the only crab in the entire dish. I am accustomed to the crab also being throughout the dish not just on top. I had a delicious meal here! The curry puff was perfect - rich, flavorful curry, soft, flaky pastry, and a nice contrast with the dipping sauce! 10/10, would order again. I also got the Tom Kha soup. I loved the broth and the mushrooms. The chicken I didn't like, but everything else was perfect. I tried a friend's drunken noodles and the sauce was fantastic. I will 100% be back for more! Absolutely delicious good served here! I have a soft spot for Thai food and we went with all the safe options which didn't go wrong and tastes really fabulous. We did outdoor seating so there's a lot of mozzies in summer but the resto provided the insect repellent so that's helpful. There are an insane amount of takeout Thai places in DC, and Donsak still stood out with our experience tonight just grabbing a few things to pick up. The "Thai hot" curry at most places usually is mild at best and theirs had a real kick without being excessive. The duck rolls and gyoza were exactly what you want. I grew up in Bangkok and have been missing authentic Thai in DC. This easily has one of the best papaya salads in the DMV; my favorite street food. But beyond that the most authentic and not "Americanized" Thai food I've found that's nearby. If you're looking for standard generic Thai flavors that seem to come out of a can, this is not it. Delicate, sweet, spicy and sour, the way it should be. I like spicy so the sweat mustache was right up my alley. We got the calamari, (honestly kinda forgot) some kind of crispy spicy chicken, and what I think was the beef onseng. Calamari was okay but definitely expensive for the few pieces we got, would not order again. Chicken was really tasty in flavor but I wanted it to be crispier. The soup/onseng was not very good but I also can't tell if it's because it's just really different for me (wanted to try something brand new but you swing and miss sometimes right) but the dill in the meal really threw me off. At Donsak Thai I made a wonderful discovery: papaya salad is even better if eaten as a condiment! Usually I see papaya salad as a stand alone item in the appetizer section, and that is how I usually order it. Donsak has four different varieties of the dish in the appetizer section, but I happened to order it as one of the components of Som Tom Kai Yang, Thai-style grilled chicken. Boy, was the combination fantastic! It was a revelation. Nevertheless, I will be back to try the other variations of papaya salad - it's supposed to be a specialty of the house. Lately I seem to be commenting on the noise level of restaurants a lot. This place was extremely loud during the Friday lunch hour I was there. Luckily we were having a late-ish start at 1pm, and the tables started clearing out pretty soon after that so we were able to have a conversation. This is a great addition to Woodley Park. This simplistic modern place has great food and wonderful service! We tried the crab Rangoon as an appetizer because they were out of the shrimp mango avocado tower. (We will be backkkk to try that!!) I had the drunken noodles with veggies and tofu and my friend had a dish off the general menu which was a lovely chicken dish with Thai eggplant! We enjoyed the flavor, freshness and presentation of our dishes so much, we asked if they are on UberEats or DoorDash-- they are! But they would love it if you can order directly through them. Donsak is a new restaurant in Woodley Park, and it is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood! The owners and staff are extremely kind and clearly take quite a bit of pride in the restaurant, as they should! It is charming and lovely. We started our meal with the fresh spring rolls. The flavor was perfect, and the peanut sauce was the star of the show! I wish we had been given more for the $8 price point, but I loved the flavor nonetheless. Our entrees were also very tasty! I ordered the chicken and eggplant stir fry. The flavor was spot-on, but I wish the chicken had been more tender. The pad Thai was delicious, one of my favorite Pad Thais in DC! We ended the meal with the mango sticky rice, and I have to say... it was outrageously tasty. I would eat bowls of that dessert alone. YUM. One of the best Thai restaurants in DC. We were directed here by a Washington Post article and loved it! The staff are efficient, friendly, and informed. The ambiance is clean and upscale. The prices are very reasonable for DC. And the food is excellent. We tried the Kao so I (a noodle and chicken curry dish) and the Ka Na Moo Grob (crispy pork belly and veggies), with a duck roll appetizer to split. Of the three, the noodle dish and the duck roll were phenomenal! The pork belly was good. How bad can it be ;-).. but the base was a quite light and mild unless you bit into the Thai hot peppers floating around in it. We will be back!!! read more

This was my first time (Jan 2023) eating northern Thai dishes and I will return for more. I got the Nham Kao Tod. It was a unique taste and I was not expecting it to be cold. Despite the lack of warmth, it wasn't bad. I also ordered the chicken satay but it was too dry, probably due to it being chicken breast rather than thigh. Maybe this was an off night?? We ordered food for delivery and many items were terrible. Some were pretty ok but not good enough to justify another order. We got the following: Pad Thai - decent. Doesn't use pad thai noodles but flavor was fine. 4/5 Green Curry - watery but ok 3/5 Duck Roll - hard and cold. 3/5 Papaya Salad with Crab - 1/5 was so spicy that it was inedible. The place had plenty of reservations, but we were able to be seated after being greeted kindly at the entrance! The restaurant though small had a great vibe to it, from the soft background music and the TVs on the wall that was on random channels. The server we had was great, always attentive with water refills and check ins. The food, tasty and I can see why the place had many reservations. The crispy duck I had is definitely different from other basil crispy duck but was delicious nonetheless! Been meaning to try this place and glad I did. Very clean restaurant and delicious food. It was fairly busy inside but service was fast and efficient. I got the Pad See Ew ($15) and practically inhaled it. Delicious and not overly heavy/greasy like other places. I just wish the portion was bigger!!! My partner wanted to try something other than our go to Thai orders so he got the Kao Soi ($20) and enjoyed it! It had a sweet coconut curry flavor. Overall great place to get authentic Thai food, there were many dishes I've never tried/seen before. The dishes other people got looked so interesting and delicious. I was staying in DC for the night at Omni and this place was a 2 minute walk so I thought why not. The food was so tasty! I ordered curry and Gyoza which were both really yummy. My only complain is I wish I had more broccoli in my curry but still knocked it out of the park with the flavor. read more

Our server was great! Let's just say our water glass is always filled! Thank youuuu Patty Now the fun part.... The food: for appetizers we got the gyoza and the duck roll! Both were very much flavorful but I HIGHLY recommend the duck roll!! Sooo succulent and flavorful!! Main Dish: we got the ka Pao with crispy pork which was a little on the saltier side for me but it was still flavorful, drunken noodle here and is great also! And my husband got the cashew chicken and he liked it... he actually devoured it Spicy level: so for an "authentic Thai" place... I don't think this place is spicy at all... any Thai People I know, knows the difference of "Thai" spicy vs. American Spicy... && this place is definitely an American Spicy type of place... I might just have had the best Thai dish I have ever eaten. The stir fried seafood with curry blew me away! There was so much crab meat - so many mussels - so many shrimp - so many scallops (and even some squid which I don't love but, hey, they were there and covered in the most luxuriously delicious curry-based sauce I have ever tasted). The sauce was incredible - it was curry based as I said. However, the flavors of the seafood added profiles that hit this one out of the park!!! Bottom line - I licked the bowl clean. Whoever came up with this dish is an angel. We had some other stuff - larb gai, tom yum soup, etc. All very good but the star of this show was the seafood dish. On top of it all, the people who work here are very pleasant, polite, nice and accommodating. I went back three days later the day I ate there in person it was delicious but when I got takeout, my $10 crab Rangoon's only had four in the box and in the middle of them, they were so cold. This time we started with the chive cake appetizer and it was light but crispy and flavorful! I got the panang curry with chicken which is always a favorite. It's a small place so I recommend making a reservation on a weekend night but we got seated for lunch quickly on a Sunday afternoon without one. Loved the salmon panang - cooked medium well, the way I like it, and the sauce was well balanced between sweet and spicy. We ordered the gyoza, lamb roll, salted chili crispy chicken, drunken noodles with beef and mango sticky rice. I loved the gyoza and the chili pepper chicken, they were my favorites. The gyoza is perfectly fried, but not super doughy. And the chili chicken is lightly fried small pieces of chicken kind of dry stir fried with a yummy, spicy flavor. We were so impressed with all of the fare at Donsak. I highly recommend a reservation. We went early on a Thursday and the place filled up quickly, though we did see duos and solo diners walk in with no problem. We ordered a huge spread of food, only some of which is pictured here and it was all so good. The curries were perfectly spicy and had a good amount of meat and veg. The duck was flavorful and crispy and all of the noodles and other accompaniments were delicious as well. I will say that the Som Tam Tart was probably my least favorite. The mussels were super sour and eggs were very salty, however, others at the table enjoyed the platter so it may just be my preference. And the other items on the platter were great.
