I pass this place on my way to work everyday and it always tempts me. Well I finally gave in and stopped in for a sweet breakfast treat. The place is like your regular mom and pop donut shop. Nothing stood out about it. If you check in on Yelp, you do receive a free mystery donut that is picked for you. Yay for free donuts. I didn't have cash on me and there is a $5 minimum order to use a card. I ordered a dozen donut hole with an orange juice and I was short on the $5, so I had to add another dozen donut holes. I walked out the Donut Bar with 2 dozen donut holes and my mystery donut. Sad thing is...none of the donuts were fresh. They tasted like they had been sitting out all night. A little hard (even after being warmed up) and stale to the taste. All those donuts were wasted. Guess I didn't need them. Temptation is gone and I won't be back. Hole in wall joint. My friend put in two personalized orders for her daughters bday. First box was "happy birthday" in individual donuts and each designed differently. My friends daughter is into gymnastics so she made sure to include that theme in her donuts! One even was adorned with fruit loops, another Oreo cookies, you get the idea! The 2nd box were all personalized "S" donuts for her daughters name. Both boxes total was $60. It is a lot of money but the work and creativity put into it, well worth it. There were lots of other donuts on display and I saw the emoji ones that looked really cute. They have cronuts and I must come back to try! It's basically a hybrid of a donut and croissant. No problem with service. Sweet Korean lady helped us and she was very enthusiastic and seemed she was the one who personally made the donuts. Donuts were delicious and everyone enjoyed them. The only reason I am putting a star is because I have to. The old guy who runs this place has struck again I see. Came in this morning with my 3 year old SPECIAL NEEDS SON. He got frustrated with my son when it took him too long to decide on a drink. Making loud sighs and saying hurry up. Then I went to choose a kolache and he kept throwing his hands up asking me "which one." I didn't like the way he was treating us so I said forget it we are are leaving. He then kept saying yeah go and leave and then started laughing at me and my son. Then we went to donut lovers on Coit and Parker and were greeted with kindness and patience and a smiley face. The dounuts aren't anything special they taste like any other donut shop. The old BITTER/RUDE man will be the reason why his shop won't get any more customers. I came in this morning and asked for a dozen donut holes and when it came time to pay he shouted his $5 minimum in my face, even though I was paying with cash so I gave him a $20 because that's ALL I HAD ON ME and he said VERY rudely that "this isn't a change place!". I typically come to this donut shop once or so a month, and the service ok. The Older Lady who typically service me is friendly enough and displays ok customer service. However, today the Older Gentlemen who is typically in the back was ringing up customers and actually had a line for the first time ever. When I entered a Older African American women was being checked out and she had some questions on her order that the older man quickly dismissed and ringed her up. I wasnt privy to the prior conversation so I dismissed it, since it was none of my business. The Yong Lady in front of me gave her order, the guy made small talk with her, she paid, then left. Now its my turn, I asked for 2 large kolache's and 2 small kolache's, he got them, then warmed them up in the microwave. I tried to make small talk and ask about his wife, he asked if I wanted spicy or reg kolache's . I was like ok..when he ran my card I asked I can use credit, he said put in your number, I then restated that I wanted to use credit, he did reiterated for me to put in my number. By time another customer came in and was waiting, so now I felt rushed so just excepted this guy's rude insisting that I put in my pin number. Then after the transaction I asked for my receipt. He said, that I didnt need a receipt. WHAT?? I said, Yes I do need one, he then said no I didnt! (BREAK: Look, I'm not trying to be the "Angry Black Women" but come on!! How come I didnt receive the same customer service as the young WHITE lady infront of me. I was pleasant, I didnt ask for anything that I shouldnt, plus and most importantly I'M A PAYING CUSTOMER!!! Why couldnt I use CREDIT??? How come I was told NO when I asked for a receipt??? What is the Deal??) So instead of making a scene I just left with my kolache's passed the young black guy who was the customer after me, we exchanged looks and left, to NEVER return. Found this donut shop about 2 months ago while driving to work. Have gone three times with the third being my last for the sole purpose of the poor customer service and lack of product in the morning. During my three visits I only saw one older gentleman working in the morning, so issue one is he's by himself, with no one else making donuts/kolaches to keep up with the busy hours. However, this donut shop has been open for quite sometime, you should know by now when your busiest times are and get help. This brings me to my second and final issue, the older gentleman is just plain rude. You shouldn't be angry with your customers when they order a dozen donuts, yes only 12!, for their office because you're the only working the shop. This past Friday was my final straw. I will always give multiple chances because sometimes people just have bad days but not not this shop. This business clearly doesn't know how to manage the demand of donuts in the morning and the older gentleman's ugly attitude is just unnecessary. With all this said, I'm taking my business elsewhere.
