Once in awhile I get to hankering for some donuts. I found myself driving all the way across town to Donut Bistro the other day, even though I could have easily gone to Doughboy's which is right in my hood. Pro: lightest, fluffiest crullers in town. Best donut shop in the Truckee Meadows. This is a great place as their donuts are made fresh in the early morn. My fave is their apple fritters. They are large and have the real taste of apple in them that is not overpowered by the taste of sugar like that new place north of Sparks. Each time I go in, I order a fritter, but also order one of their other selections to try it out. I have not been disappointed by any. Their coffee is good too. I strongly recommend this place. 1st time going in, donuts smelled amazing. Browsed the donuts, not much left at 12pm. The clerk seemed to be having a bad day, but don't take it out on me and the other customers. 5 min later, clerk shows up and I ask for a dozen. I point to the ones I want and he just throws them in the box, without any care. I asked him to change out 2 donuts because I didn't point to those. You could see the anger and then he threw the donuts down on the counter. I could have walked out, but paid for the donuts. 2 other customers were there and I don't think the clerk cared. This is our first visit here. 8am on a Saturday. My 8 yo ordered a cookies and cream. She loved the filling and the hint of chocolate on the glaze. My 7 yo got the glazed twist. She said it wasn't too sweet and was puffy in the inside. They want to come back here. I ordered the sausage and cheese kolache which they warned up for me. I love the savory alternative and it was delicious. I had to try the apple fritters too. They didn't over glaze it and wasn't oily nor over fried.The texture was fresh. I think if I warmed up for 10 sec it would be perfect. Service was good. I heard a lot of regulars coming in. Overall, fair priced, good quality products in a small, neighborhood doughnut shop. It is the customer service that really makes a place shine, which is why this place gets five stars from me. I went here today to pick up three dozen doughnuts for hungry executives - and I didn't call ahead. They had a wonderful assortment, including giant doughnuts that can easily feed three people. I was able to get my dozen plain glazed and two dozen assorted without any fuss and also had a knowledgeable staff member help me with the selection and brought my order out to my truck for me. It doesn't get any better than that! The doughnuts themselves are just the right texture, not bogged down with grease and lightly frosted, making for a delicious treat or breakfast. read more

Stopped in for coffee and a donut on our drive home at 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon. No coffee made. All the pots were sitting empty. Disappointing that a donut place doesn't have any coffee made and still has 3 1/2 hours to closing time. read more

Try to go here on your way to work! No matter what day you go they are always out of donuts. It's so frustrating I quit going. Keep up with supply and demand!!!!! I've tried calling the night before and putting in an order, didn't work. I've tried going earlier and earlier, didn't work. Sparks has not a great donut shop in so many years. I love this place i have only been there once but believe me I plan on going back Saturday morning. I love how they have fresh melt in your mouth glazed donut holes. I used to get these as a little kid and popping the first one in my mouth brought back all those childhood memories. I got tired of going to Jelly Donut and they are normally out of donuts by 9am. I found donut bistro yesterday and I came back today. So got up at 3:30 to be ready by 4:30 to head out to get donuts. They open at 5. Wanted to make sure I was there early because of the order I needed. Sit 20 minutes in the parking lot waiting for the store to open. At 5 I go to the door. It's unlocked. I go inside to get my donuts. Worker is sleeping in a booth. Only 1 tray of donuts in the whole display. He gets out of the booth and adds another tray to display. Very limited on choices. Ask if they have maple bars because I need a dozen of those alone. Plus my other dozen. He says this is all we have. Why open for business if you aren't going to have product ready? Very disappointed in their service and lack of product. This was the Pyramid Way store as the S Meadows Pkwy doesn't open til 7 am and it would be to late by then. Better business people. Better business. read more

So many different flavors and varieties! I always get a buttermilk maple bar and the chocolate glazed cake doughnuts. My boyfriend loves their doughnut holes (which are dirt cheap at a dozen for $1.75). They also have a maple bacon doughnut, which I wasn't terribly fond of. Their doughnuts are delicious and reasonably priced. The inside of the store is always clean and there's always available seats if you want to sit and enjoy your doughnut. I love how it's open until 9pm too. read more

Went this morning for wife's coconut donut craving...first time went was at least good...today not so good..I got a cinnamon roll and all it tasted like was cinnamon grease..change the fryer oil duh...my parents owned The Bakery in Quincy for 15yrs, dad was a baker since 7, died at 83. I personally was donut fryer for 3 so I know what I'm talking about from personal experience. You guys CAN do better..your customers deserve it. read more

the employees here are so friendly. i would go here every morning with my boyfriend before school, and order the same half-dozen box of delicious doughnuts. we became regulars and they would remember our order, so when we entered we'd be greeted and they'd ask "the usual?" and they'd get them. (sometimes even going to the back to get the really fresh ones.) we would laugh and converse, and they'd always say goodbye, with a "see you next time." the doughnuts are the best in town, affordable, and the employees are so kind. i love this place! read more

We prepaid for kolaches and donut holes on Wed night to pick up for Fri morning (today) for a work event. We came in this morning at the agreed upon time and said hello. No response beyond the reflex look from 2 of the 3 workers. We finally were helped and the guy says, "Bad news. We don't have your order. We don't have any cheese so we didn't make them." I asked how that could be with 2 full days to get this taken care of, as well as 2 grocery stores within a block away. "Nobody wants to work. It happens." At the time of my pre-order, I provided my phone number. When he showed me the ticket, my number hadn't been written down. Three times I got "it happens." Horrible customer service and the donuts are not so amazing that they can redeem themselves for the poor customer service. I've been in a few times and I grow more fond if this place each time. Regularly I take one or another of my cars to the Big O across the street from Donut Bistro so I will often walk over for a donut. There is nothing wildly wonderful about the donuts (pour out some 2% for Krispy Kreme) but they're definitely good - better than most perhaps - and convenient for me. read more

I went here last month on a snowy morning mid -week, and am just now getting around to my review. I had a nail in my tire and stopped by Big O across the street. They couldn't fix the tire for another hour and a half, and I had to be to work, so I didn't get the tire fixed that day. To make up to my co-workers for being late, I stopped by Donut Bistro for a half dozen donuts. This was my first visit. The place was fairly busy, with one guy behind the counter wearing all the hats..server, cashier, whatnot..he did it all with a smile. Never seemed frazzeled. Yummy donuts that are soft and fresh and melt in your mouth. This place blows Dunkin' Donuts out of the water. I have no idea how anyone can stand their donuts. Anyhow, the service is friendly but there was only one guy working and he had quite a line waiting. He was quick and friendly though so no complaints. We got there around 11'ish in the morning and they had run out of quite a few of the selections. I do hope this place sticks around. They have great hours and are open until night time for those night time donut cravings. If you haven't been yet you should check them out. read more

Love the kolaches. If you want donuts, come early because they sell out of some of the favorites fast. Small seating area and when it gets busy, there's not much room in there. Parking is difficult and lot fills up after 9am because of the beauty store next door. read more

We used to love getting donuts here a couple of times a month. They are conveniently close to where we live and it was a win/win all around. Unfortunately the last couple of times that we've visited the donuts were either VERY stale or it felt like I bit into a ball of grease (where my mouth was coated almost instantly.)
