I was craving dim sum and my sister recommended this place. Honestly with the name Kung Fu Dim Sum I kinda had low expectations however they also had excellent reviews on yelp so I gave them a try. Simple self-ordering system using either a QR code at your table or the kiosk near the entrance. Service is surprisingly efficient considering a single waitress runs the entire restaurant from taking care of guests to bringing out dishes. Restaurant is clean. We ordered: 1. Mushroom Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai - Large, generously filled siu mai that were juicy, flavorful, and one of the better versions I've had. 2. Pan Chives & Shrimp Pan-Fried Dumplings - The best item on the menu with an incredibly crispy exterior and a juicy, flavorful filling. 3. Golden Shrimp Balls - Wonderfully crunchy on the outside, although the shrimp filling was a little bland and definitely benefited from dipping them in soy sauce and vinegar. 4. Green Dry-Fried String Beans - Fresh, crisp, and nicely cooked without feeling overly greasy despite being fried. 5. Shrimp Chow Mein - Just okay and fairly generic, with a texture and flavor similar to Panda Express chow mein. 6. Steamed Bean Curd Rolls - Very large portions but a bit underseasoned and could have used more flavor. 7. Shrimp Ha Gao - Excellent dumplings with huge, plump shrimp inside and a delicious, well-seasoned filling. Overall, I'd definitely be back. Prices are very fair and cost about $60 for everything which fed 3 people + a ton of leftovers. We over ordered by a lot. Lots of parking outside. Just your typical hole-in-the-wall dim sum spot, with a tiny interior and a big menu. You come here because you want the classics at very reasonable prices. You order from a QR code on the table. Service is prompt and friendly. We ordered way more than I photographed. Of note, the red oil wontons come in a sauce that's more like a sesame soy sauce than a chili oil. Skip if you're chili oil fan. Their soup dumplings were pretty good. The deep fried golden shrimp balls are great, though, as well as their har gow, custard bao buns, and sautéed green beans. We've done both dine in and takeout, and both options are long waits. We waited at least 30 minutes for our food when dining in, even when there was only 1 other party of two at the restaurant. For takeout, we've waited up to an hour even when Doordash has estimated closer to 25 minutes. They get a crazy amount of orders and they don't have a lot of staff to support the demand. With that being said, the dim sum here is tasty and the menu is extensive. You'll find all of the regular favorites like siu mai, har gow, and cheung fun (rolls), and much more. They seem to really specialize in American Chinese food and we noticed that very little appears to be prepared fresh. The congee was of a consistency that it is likely from a mix rather than fresh. The preserved eggs were of an odd flavor and texture that did not seem to be authentic and the broth was not as flavorful as I have had for congee. The dumplings were all frozen and just steamed. Dimsum at 7 am! Today my wife had the crazy idea to get dimsum for breakfast and she told me found a place that was open at 7. I thought the hours were wrong but I went anyway and they were open! 5 stars for having a full Chinese meal menu at 7 am and for their insane schedule. They are open 7am to 9pm every day of the week except for Tuesday. They are closed from 2:30-430. You order via a kiosk so it's nice and organized, the food did take maybe 20 minutes to make but they steam everything to order and I had a diverse mix of stuff so I wasn't worried on the timing. The dimsum was decent quality, my wife likes it better than taipan. It was so good to mix up our breakfast and find a place open early with dimsum! My favorites were the traditional dimsum, cheung fan, har gow, and shumai. They had some interesting spicy and different meat offerings in dimsum I haven't seen before, I'll try them next time. Woke up not feeling well, so went on doordash to find if there is any places open that has wonton soup. Found this place and was surprised to see that they were open already at 8am! Seen their hours that they open at 7am. I know this area well, and always seen this place but never tried it. Randomly found this spot because we were looking for dim sum and they were open at 7am.... not that we ordered that early, more like 9am but most places around here don't open until 10:30 or later. We put in an online order for take out and was bringing the food to the guests at my parents. Prices are great here in terms of dim sum, it's hard to find similar prices anywhere else you're going to eat a weekend breakfast. We may have over ordered, but it was great, everything was fresh hot and tasty. I may have been a little late from when it said it was ready for pickup. When I got there the owner was concerned and said oh good he was about to call me to make sure I was getting the food (he wasn't concerned about a cancelled order since I already paid, just didn't want my food to go bad or forgotten). It's your little hole in the wall, no frills, nothing fancy, Oakland China Town vibes (but cleaner) that offers dim sum, rice dishes and noodles. We wanted our dim sum fix and decided to give Kung Fu Dim Sum a try. We were excited to see that they offered most of the items we typically tend to order; har gow, siu mai, fung zao, char sui bao, tripe, etc. Looks like they've moved to a new up to date ordering system; scan the qr code to place your order or visit the digital screen at the front. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and was happy to see us dining inside. We were handed plastic and paper cups for tea and water, mexican music playing in the kitchen, and then we see one of the cooks (husband?) come out to one of the 3 fridges/freezers and grab packs of what it appeared to be frozen dumplings and made his way back to the kitchen. Food came out quick, everything tasted ok... not amazing and I highly doubt they're making things from scratch in the back, but definitely fulfilled my cravings. When I went to pay, I noticed there was an automatic $7 charge on their ordering system. I decided to go in person and pay and she told me the tip was included in the cost. Inside, there's a handful of tables if you prefer to dine in. When we visited on a weekend late morning, there were a few families having brunch. If you're just doing take out, you can order from their kiosk inside. You can probably order on door dash or online if you prefer not to wait, but there is a small up charge for those online sites. We ordered at the kiosk and waited prob 20 min for our order. I got the Kung fu shrimp dumpling (har gow) and fried shrimp balls. Both were really good. My daughter came home for vacation and she wanted to have dimsum at our favorite place Saigon Harbor Seafood in Newark, but it's closed indefinitely. We wanted to try a new place and we found this one on Yelp. It's in the place of a Korean restaurant years ago when the kids were little. It's a very small restaurant, the parking is limited in a small shopping center, but on SAT it wasn't crowded so we found a parking spot. It's small, clean, but not airy as the big restaurant. My daughter using the iPhone App and the food came out quite quickly. This is a family owned restaurant so the mom serves for everyone, quite effective. We ordered the usual, xiu mai, beef rice crepe, chicken feet, beancurd wrapped, soup dumplings, fried gyoza, some tripes that my daughter likes. There's no meatballs that my son likes. The chicken feet are up to par with others, very tasty and cooked perfectly. The beef rice crepes are good and soft, the beancurd wrapped has too much cornstarch, sauce is too thick although the taste is there, didn't look good. The soup dumplings are bland, not very delicious as other restaurants. The tripes are good. My son ate all the fried Gyoza and he said it's OK. The xiu mai wasn't full flavored and not fresh. I'm not sure if this is a cantonese restaurant or mandarin. It seems like a mixed one. To me the Cantonese restaurant has the best dim sum. Mandarin or chinese mainland has the best soup dumplings. I had high hopes for this place given a handful of my friends recommended this spot, but both my mom and I left underwhelmed. It's a small spot with just a few tables. On a Saturday lunch there were only 3 groups, and a table for just one. You order via bar code on the table and place your order. There was one worker who was going around tending to the customers. We ordered the standard har gaw (shrimp dumpling), siu mai (pork and shrimp), cheung fun with shrimp and another one with bbq pork, pork spare ribs, etc. Relative to other spots we had in the East Bay, the food didn't taste that good in my opinion. The taste was a bit off, lacking flavor, some were oily, etc. The sticky rice in lotus leaf with sausage, etc tasted old. The rice looked dried? Not sure how this spot got such high reviews. The pricing was solid, at $6 for most dim sum dishes. The hot sauce/chili on the table had more of a sichuan pepper taste, which I personally don't enjoy. Would I be back? Picking up was easy. I asked for a pair of chopsticks, and he gave me a pair even though there was a fork inside. I just personally prefer chopsticks. :) The har gow was pretty yummy. Sadly there aren't many (any?) places you can get solid siu mai and sticky rice in lotus leaf for five bucks these days. Not only is the price point alluring but the food is good. The siu mai, sticky rice, various buns, sponge cake, bean curd rolls were all tasty and hit the spot. The also had an excellent pan fried chive pork bun- the best I've had in a long time. The spare ribs that came in our takeout box looked half empty though, so they definitely skimped on that one. But otherwise no complaints and will be back for more take out. Everything was pretty good. The har gaw and skin was chewy, the salty dumplings skin was too thick though. The beef siu mai was just eating a big ball of meat which I didn't like too much. We usually go to Golden Bay in Union City for dim sum, but we didn't want to brave the line at noon on a Sunday, so we decided to check out Kung Fu Dim Sum. It was much more of a hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shop than I anticipated, but definitely a worthy alternative to the bustling dim sum restaurants if you're trying to avoid the crowds. Rating Breakdown: 1.5/2 Stars for Taste -- We ordered all the classics so we could make a fair comparison -- steamed shrimp rolls, shaomai, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, and fried pork glutinous rice dumplings. My favorite was the glutinous rice dumplings, the outside was crispy and the pork filling had a subtle sweetness that was very satisfying. The shaomai was less "bouncy" than other places, but I'm not sure if that's a sign of less filler, nonetheless they were still juicy and succulent. I was impressed with the shrimp dumpling, I'm usually not a fan but order them to humor my husband. The shrimp, water chestnut, and ginger filling had a great seasoning that I actually really enjoyed. The shrimp rolls came with big shrimp, the soy seasoning was a little less sweet than I'm accustomed to, but was still tasty. The only thing I thought was noticeably not as good as a classic dim sum place was the chicken feet, the flavor just didn't quite hit. We also tried their scallop and shrimp steamed dumpling, which was very good, especially for the price. Even though this place seems to be known more for their take-out, the quality of the dine-in was excellent, not the mushy over-steamed takeout that I usually find at the typical dim sum express/take-out places. 0.5/1 Stars for Value -- The dishes range from $5-$7.50, which did give me pause because it is comparable to restaurants like Golden Bay and Golden Sun. Feels a bit audacious for them to charge banquet hall dim sum prices at this tiny hole in the wall. However, the quality/portion sizes of the food was on par, not to mention they didn't charge a tea fee (a kettle with 1 Lipton bag) per person and there was no forced tip. In the end, we got 6 dishes for about $45 including tax and tip. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- You scan a code at the table and order on your phone. Food came out in about 10-15 minutes and it was obvious it came straight from the steamer. It looks like there is one server managing the front and maybe one person manning the kitchen in the back, so I can see how the wait can get a bit long if the place was more busy. Bonus star because I would be back, especially since they offer dim sum during more hours of the day.
