We've been coming to Donut Delight since 1998 when we lived at the apartments nearby and would walk here for our dim sum fix. We moved away the following year, but my husband worked close by and continued to pick up dim sum and donuts here weekly. When our kids were old enough to attend Logan, they would frequent Donut Delight, too. We hadn't been for a few years since we now live and work further away but we had the opportunity to stop in last Saturday. The husband and wife that own Donut Delight were so happy to see my husband! They are extremely nice people, and I can't understand how anyone would think otherwise. She greeted my husband like he was her long-lost son. It was so sweet. I got har gow, siu mi, hom soy guk and dan tat. My husband got a Macau porkchop sandwich, and she threw in some freebies just cause. Everything was so good! We will definitely start going out of our way to come more often. read more

Accepts Card & Cash! My review is truly only for the Shu Mai! I'll be real honest, when you hear Dim Sum Donut Shop, I was pretty intrigued, & pleasantly surprised at how tasty the Shu Mai were! I generally recommend Chicken & Pork Combinations with shrimp since those have a great salt flavor profile mixed with other ingredients. If you're expecting SF Chinatown dim sum, that's not what this place is, but if your looking for a quick snacc, this is where it's at. Low key, the lady can be pretty aggressive on upselling you more & sometimes can come off as rude, so just politely decline if you do not want to purchase extra. Hidden Union City gem located on the side of safeway facing alvarado niles. Ive been coming here since high school and not much has changed. Honestly some of the best tasting dim sum and donuts you can get especially for the price! Though selection varies based on the time you come in. (Pro tip theres more in the morning and definitely ask for chili oil!) siu mai has an abundance amount of pork filing and the har gow shell isnt too thick loaded with shrimp filling. Last visit I was also able to score some chive and shrimp dumplings! Absolutely delicious & the donuts arent too bad either! Im a big fan of the french cruller, very light and airy on the inside and just the right amount of chocolate glaze. The egg tarts are also cooked to perfection! Not too sweet with just the right amount of density in the buttered crust. Overall this review is solely based on the food. The owner of the store is a bit of a bargainer who will attempt to upsell you and she is quite fast and good at her job. If youre not firm you may leave with more food than you expected to pay for but honestly its part of the establishment (in some parts of asia its very much a cultural thing) and been that way since i can remember. 4 stars for the food & ill leave it at that! read more

I've been here twice before and each time was a bit odd. The lady came off strong and pushy. And the prices were inconsistent. Each time I wasn't given an itemized receipt, so I couldn't confirm what I was feeling. I know I paid two different prices for the same amount of donut holes. When I was ring up, I almost didn't want to pay for them, but I didn't want to make a big deal so I paid anyway. And since I tried different dim sums each time, I couldn't see what was off (bought the donuts after eating the dimsum). I haven't gone back since. So this third time, I sent my husband over there and I had told him about the poor reviews and of my own experience. Sure enough everything that we had read was true. I asked him to get four pork buns ($2 each) and pork and shrimp shumai (70cents). I originally asked for 20 sm, but she upsold to 2 dozen and my husband agreed only to this. She tried to offer more items "5-6 times" (his words) saying that she will add a dozen of this or that he should try this because it's good. She didn't just ask either, she was already trying to add some items in the to-go tray. He consistently said no and clearly stated that was all he wanted. She goes on to say "you're so mean today". He hasn't been there since Dec 2018 and looked completely different then, so I don't know what she's talking about "today". It turns out she punched in $17 flat for the shu mais instead of $16.80. And this makes sense why my totals for a variety of dim sum in the past seemed more than I expected to pay. I figure she does this often. My husband asked for an itemized receipt, but she said it was already too late. Granted it is only 20 cents, but it's the principle of the matter. It's dishonest. She probably doesn't behave like this all the time, but out of the 3 times this household has gone, it was poor service. My profession is surrounded by customer service and hours of one on one interactions. My husband's profession demands that he has extremely tough skin. He wants things straight to the point and he didn't appreciate all this extra commotion. Others have mentioned also being up charged like me and not being given an itemized receipt. "When you order tomorrow, I'll give you one". The food was ok. It reflects the price you pay for it. It will definitely fill someone up and it's good for a family who is looking for quantity over quality. So that is a plus. Another plus is that it's already made for immediate pick-ups. Lastly, I am Filpina and I see that majority of her customers are also Filipino. So it leads me to think this is where the affordable dim sum is, but not the most authentic. Dim Sum is a separate culinary art mastered by very few, due to its tedious preparation. It's affordable, and 100% authentic. The Burmese original owner was a nice guy who loved Harleys. After many years of success here, he sold it to a very assertive hustler lady, known for pulling fast ones on unsuspecting customers. Today, she saw me walk in late(2pm). Honestly, BEST PORK SHUMAI and THEEE BEST SESAME BALLS I'VE EVER HAD!!The sesame balls got this yellow paste inside, I think it's lotus seed paste and it's FIRE!! They also don't skimp on the filling of the sesame ball. I've tried their pork and shrimp shumai...great...chicken shumai...yummy...Shrimp shumai/har gow...ok. They also sell donuts which to me aren't that great. But they shumai and sesame balls got me coming here dam near every weekend and I'm trying to lose weight but this donut shop won't let me. I needed lots of donuts to take to my sisters class of 2nd graders. The owner was super sweet and gave me a sample donut hole as it was my first time! I got 3 dozen mixed and she packed them nicely and made sure the variety had no nuts (as it was going to a school and there are allergies) she asked me my favorite kind, which is maple and she threw it in for free in a separate bag with a few more donut holes for good measure. This place serves doughnuts and dim sum. But the SHUMAI is the star of the show. They're big, reasonably priced, and super yummy. Came in today because I was craving shu mai and hargow and this was the closest place to me. I called beforehand to make sure there was some available and was told 15 minutes. I arrived before the 15 and there was some ready. I waited outside with one of the workers. She had me sit with her outside because the floors were wet and were drying. She began talking to me about what I did for work and where I went to school which I was totally okay with talking about. Things took a turn when she suggested I get a shot to help me lose weight. I never asked for her opinion or asked anything related to my weight. I am someone who does have pounds to shred but this was unwarranted. She then went on to assume I am diabetic. I should've walked away then and there. Nonetheless, the shu mai and hargow was good. Reasonably priced and are bigger than other places. The same worker tried to sell me other items that I was not interested it. She kept on insisting and after realizing what she was doing, I denied any further "suggestions". Pretty solid take out dim sum with some more burmese-y things thrown in, like samosas. It seems like the lady who works there has annoyed some people but I found her to be fun to talk to. So fun in fact that I left with $20 worth of food, which at take-out dum sum prices is like 4 meals lol. But that just means I have dim sum to eat for breakfast for a few days. I get that she can come off a little pushy but if you've ever been to Asia (or like any American chinatown for that matter) she's well within the median range for pushiness. Five stars for friendly service. I came here for the first time to get a box of donuts for myself and little cousins on a weekend morning. The man at the counter must of known because I asked for a dozen variety with sprinkles. He threw in fresh donut holes and a few bars. It was rush time and they were very busy. I liked the fact he apologized for the wait and tried to help me as quickly as possible. He was very smiley and had a good attitude even though there was a swarm of people inside. I was feeling a bit down that day but his kindness and the delicious donuts made it better. They really prioritize the customer and make you feel welcome. The har gua and shiu mai were alright. The taste was good, the meat was not tough, but the wrapper was on the thicker side to me. It was fairly fresh, but was not kept in a steamer basket, so it would probably go cold quickly. The rest of the stuff I got (she forced into me) was cold and maybe even stale. They were just kept on a tray on a display case. The chives dumpling also had a very thick skin and had barely any filling. It's really a shame that the experience getting food here overshadows the actual food. The lady working here is not worth dealing with. The food is actually very good but it's not worth being hustled and ripped off. The lady here is very aggressive. If you ask her for a price on an item she will just throw it into the bag and not answer . She will say "it's very good" or "you have to try" or she won't say anything at all and just add it to your order. She will also add additional items to your order, like twice the amount you wanted plus some "extras" for you to try but she is totally charging you even though you didn't want it. If you do still go here, do not pay until you make sure you are getting exactly what you want. She will make it difficult but insist because she is manipulative and shouldn't be trusted. She talks fast and moves fast. In the end, she will make you feel like you should just pay and leave so you don't have to deal with her anymore but if you do that, she is most definitely ripping you off. I went in for donuts, and by the time I left I had not only a bunch of donuts, but a ton of delicious dim sum as well. The food is genuinely delicious, made in-shop, and when I mentioned I couldn't eat mushrooms and needed help avoiding that, they happily helped me dodge foods that might set off migraines, something which I deeply appreciate. So maybe I've got food for the next two days sitting here right now, but I have *zero* regrets supporting a small business that makes great food and has staff that are happy to help you out. And to my surprise, that word still exists in some business names. But don't let Donut Delight Oriental Pastries' name put you off. This is a really cool place if your like dim sum, donuts, Burmese Foods, and pastries. When I lived in the Bay Area many years ago, I'd have to take BART into San Francisco, and take a walk into Chinatown and head into some dim sum shops to get my favorite items, particularly siu mai, har gow, steamed and baked bao, gyoza, sesame donute, and lots and lots of steamed rice cakes. Then I'd have this wonderful smelling pink box or two in plastic bags for the BART ride home to the East Bay. My brother introduced me to this place in the old somewhat rundown part of Union City a few months ago. Parking has always been easy, and service has been good. I haven't tried everything, but what I've tried, I've liked. If you go early, their stuff is fresh. They were tasty and inexpensive. Most of it is steaming, Their rice cakes were so good, we bought a whole box full to take to a pot luck, and it was all consumed. I have not tried the Burmese Food or their breakfast items, but maybe next time. i tried several of the donuts and cookies, they were decent. I know on the weekends they serve Burmese food, and I've heard good things, but unfortunately, I was only able to pop by on a weekday. I still really enjoyed my visit and got a solid amount of dim sum for about $8 (the tofu beancurd wrapped things, some hakao/rice paper wrapped shrimp dumplings, and some siumai). I enjoyed the snack and their offerings, but my favorite part of this place was how good of a salesperson the auntie working behind the counter was. I wanted certain dim sum items that they had already sold out of, but she was very good at pointing out other things I might be interested in and recommending them. No one ever woke up early on a Saturday morning saying, "I can't wait to go to work". So for that, I give major props. Be very careful when you pay! The lady at the register will charge you extra 2 or 3 dollars. I was there this morning for a $5 somai $5 samosa $5 rice porridge and a $2 drink with tax total of $25 according to her. So I was like whaaat 25 bucks and she was oooooh it's $21.92 even though it's off I just paid and left food it good but trying to get a little bit more I think is very low low low. read more
