I guess by "close time" restaurants really mean "leaving time" these days. I show up 35 minutes before closing for a cold sandwich, easy to prepare. No greeting, but instead a notice that the grill is closed. I asked if I could still get a cold sandwich, he asked the cook and she reluctantly said yes. Furthermore, he was counting down his tray, and had just finished stocking for the next morning's "fresh" donuts and pastries. The only fresh thing about this place is their coffee. This place has the worst customer service and the donuts tastes like it's been out for a few days. It's not bad if you microwave it but you shouldn't have to do that. Also, they don't have boxes for your donuts of half dozen or dozen. They throw all in a bag and have them all smear and touch. Terrible for a OCD guy like me. Yummy donuts. I had the Boston cream pie donuts here. It was really good! The taste of the chocolate on the outside and the cream in the inside were spot on. The donut was really soft and fresh too. Went to Donut King in kensington last weekend with my family of five and everyone loved their meal! Service was good, food was great. The only downside was the coffee, you can make a better of cup of the instant stuff at home, but they have a great selection of other drinks. Im not sure how early you need to be there to get the fresh donuts, but they were pretty wiped out at 11. Also, the smell in the place was a bit off. You would think a donut place would smell enchanting, but not here, not horrible...just off. We will definitely be back for a quick bite. read more

This place is the best! If I have extra time in the morning I like to drive past all of the sheep waiting in line at the Starbucks and come here. You will rarely wait in line for long and the coffee actually tastes good! Also they have a full array of bakery items, locally made, and a full diner style grill with all the eggs and bacon and breakfast sammies you could want. Went in to pre order a dozen muffins for an office breakfast meeting. I asked specifically, and was assured, they would be freshly baked when I picked them up. When at first the lady behind the counter knew nothing of my order at pickup I should have checked what she ended up bringing out all beautifully packed up. Just got to work and unpacked them and these are frozen as hard as bricks! Can not even be eaten. Clearly not freshly baked. Pretty lame. Edit: The papers the muffins came in had the name of another company on them. They purchase prefab frozen muffins here. I sure was handed a line of crap from the girl who told me about "the guy that bakes the muffins" there and how he'd have freshly baked ones for me at pick up. read more

I've been here a few times and just ordered a egg and spinach breakfast sandwich on rye. Well, like other reviewers state, the sandwich contents are sparse. It appears one egg (two eggs may be stretching it) with just a little spinach was used between the two pieces of heavily-buttered bread. The coffee is awful, but they do offer espresso-based drinks which are OK. Workers behind the counter are rude: no smiles, no thank you and no real understanding of English. A good thing going for this place is the donuts are cake-like and taste far better than Dunkin' Donuts across the street. The bakery section also offers a lot of cookies and cakes. For this, I offer three stars and will only come here for take out donuts (or bakery items) in the future and get coffee at Starbucks in the same shopping center or Java Nation (take out cups only) down the street. A big thing in my book is restaurant cleanliness. I never witnessed one clean counter or table in the place and this is the time of year (February) people get sick. People will leave and then a new group will sit-down without the restaurant workers cleaning anything. So, three stars for "A-OK." Hi. so I showed up on a Sat afternoon looking to buy cookies. This is actually a little pastry place on the strip mall in Kensington, next to two drycleaners, the liquor store, Kensington Pharmacy and CVS. anyway. I was looking to get cookies for my son's prom before party. He was supposed to bring cookies for 10. I explained that I wanted 4 of each type of cookie to the very nice (and yes Asian) lady, who not only understood my request but also was kind enough to find a plastic cookie tray for me, arrange the cookies beautifully, and put a lovely bow and clear plastic cover on it. While I waited, total of 15 minutes, not preordered. I couldn't have been happier. My son was also quite pleased that I didn't attempt it myself (almost always a complete failure). Total of 23.00. I've been here twice. The food is just ok, the donut kind of tastes like a Dunkin Donuts donut. The lady that Im pretty sure is the owner is not friendly. She may not speak good English I'm not sure because she says nothing. Both times I went there and asked her a question like where to order she pointed at the other register. The second times I ordered a donut and went on the donut side where she was standing and told her I ordered the donut. She didnt ask me what type she just stood there which I thought was very rude. So I just told her maple. If I'm supporting her business I atleast expect her to part her lips when I ask her a question. I don't know why so many people are comparing the donuts here to dunkin, or why there are so many low ratings. The donuts here are fresh, light and delicious. I've had the Bavarian creme, the glazed, and the sugared (can't remember the exact name of that one) and they were all the best I've ever had -- even better than Krispy Kreme, unless you just prefer hot donuts. They aren't so sweet that you immediately need a glass of water afterwards, and they aren't so heavy that you immediately regret eating 4 in one sitting (!!!!). read more

My daughter and I love this little place! We have breakfast here at least once or twice a month. They have a little hot food side and a bakery. I usually get the egg & scrapple platter (yes, SCRAPPLE), which comes with homefries and toast. Fresh, cheap, and quick. My daughter usually gets one of the yummy apple fritters from the bakery. I've been here twice, and had the same thing, so take this as you will. Both times I got coffee and a bagel and lox with cream cheese. Both times I have been very pleased! The coffee was pretty good for a random spot, especially since I am an admitted coffee snob. The lox was prepared with avocado and onion (which they asked me first if I wanted), and it was great. In addition to the bagels, they have full breakfast platters, like eggs and bacon. They also have empenadas, juices, and of course, donuts! Finally, free wi-fi! Probably one of the few spots in the area to offer it as well. This place is very underwhelming for the breakfast deli side. We ordered a steak quesadilla, egg and spinach on a croissant and banana pancakes. Ok. The banana pancakes were really delicious - fluffy, light and filling! The other items we ordered were small in size, lacking in flavor and way too expensive! I'm standing in this establishment and I'm reminded immediately of why I don't really like to come here for two main reasons. 1) The lady who rings up orders obviously hates her job, doesn't smile and makes you feel rushed in making a decision. Zero customer service. 2) Because of reason #1 you feel annoyed that the food is slightly overpriced and they nickel and dime you for everything. Because of this, I doubt I'll be back again. Came here on a rainy weekday late morning and it fit the bill just right. Pretty large seating area with a long window bench for singles and tables for multiples in the center. Coffee/pastries to the left counter, fresh sandwiches (lots of breakfast stuff) to the right. Got a cup of coffee and a turkey sandwich which were both simple and good. The tables and chairs are wood, the floors tile.. this is a no frills spot is clean, pretty comfortable, and won't pull any surprises on you. Been here several times and for some reason they are being stingy with the meat on the sandwiches-I got a BLT and it only had 3 pieces of Bacon. For 5.99 for only a sandwich I expect more.
