Best Cruller donut on the planet. I've been to Paris. I've been to NY & Chicago. No one has this place beat. The other donuts are also wonderful (melt in your mouth donut holes-yum!). Friendliest shop owners in PH. Short on cash (yeah, it's cash only), Make it up the next time (which you'll do because it seems most of PH Police stop in between shifts/patrols in the morning to chat with locals). On a scale of 0 to 10, the donuts are probably about a 7.5, maybe an 8. Coffee was fine, but I'm not sophisticated enough to compare it to other places. No complaints. Not too weak, not too strong, and very hot, which is good since I add tons of cream and sugar. I came in the afternoon, so the donuts weren't as fresh as 8 am. That's to be expected. Service was good. Prices seem to be normal. I'll give this place about 3.7 stars. read more

Ordered a dozen donuts, freshly made and delicious. It's in a small strip mall, so you wouldn't really notice it. When I walked in, there was a group of elderly folks chatting and enjoying their coffee. There was also a cop and a few other customers in line ordering there breakfast. It has a homely, neighborhood kind of feel to it. I would go back again. read more

My son's dad found this place and took our son. When my son brought home donut holes I tasted one and ended up eating 6. These are the best donuts I've had in a long time. Not greasy and so fresh and fluffy. I make it a point to treat him at least once or twice a week. I am so glad to have found a donut shop. I've noticed that they aren't as plentiful in nor cal as they are in so cal. Anyway, the owners are nice and my son goes to school with their son, which also makes it nice. Great donuts. Cheaper than the over-hyped Krispy Kreme and tastes way better. Good donuts don't drain oil hours after it's been purchased. Donut King donuts have very little oil so you're left eating a donut, not a donut soaking in five tablespoons of vegetable oil. read more

Superb! Krispy Kreme is nothing compared to Donut King. A real gem of Pleasant Hill. My family drops by this place at least twice a week on our way to school and work. I bring a box occassionally to work and oh my! It's gone literally in less than a minute! You might also want to try their Ham & Cheese Croissant, have the lady warm it up slightly and I swear, everything just melts in your mouth. While there, might as well get a cup of coffee. Pick any, you can never go wrong. Everything here are fresh and delicious paired with warm customer service from the owner and attendant. Their doughnuts are so good and they also have an excellent selection of fresh brewed coffee for your morning fix. It gets picked over pretty early on in the morning so if you want some doughnuts on the weekend you might want to wake up early or all your favorites might be gone. They are cash only which is incredibly inconvenient but the liquor store in the same shopping center has an ATM. read more

Will never trade this donut place for Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donut. The place is family owned & has been there for years. There is a branch in San Ramon. The owner pretty much knows her regulars and their usual orders. Favorites: Original glazed, choco glazed, crumble, donut holes, plain croissant (the best I've tasted in the area!), ham & cheese croissant, sausage/egg burrito, regular brewed coffee, latte, cappuccino, & cafe mocha! And the group of cordial gentlemen by the left most table near the coffee pot, those are all policemen, haha! Seriously! That's their table. And yes! They are regulars too, everyday you see them. The staff was very friendly. However, the donuts left much to be desired. The donuts were very dry. The glaze donuts were ok, but the texture of the non-glaze donuts (namely chocolate and plain cake) tasted more like bread than cake. read more

Alright, let me start off by saying that I came here to try their donuts after a friend of mine tried my favorite donut shop and said that he still felt Donut King was better. I got some donuts in the early weekday afternoon and they still had some of my favorites left so I got the chocolate logs, raised, old fashioned and twist. Thought the old fashioned (plain) was good, nice and crunchy on the outside but otherwise just like any other donut place flavor-wise. Then I had to cut off a slice of the twist to try it and....Oh My....really impressed with the lightness of the donut, yet has a nice chew to it when you bit into it like a fresh donut straight out of the fryer. I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing! I couldn't resist taking a slice of the plain raised last night and left the rest for this morning. I was pretty amazed that even after being cut into and left out in the box overnight, the raised donut was still extremely yummy and still had a nice softness and chewiness to it. I have to admit that I've converted to this donut shop as my favorite for raised donuts, I think I'll have to try it again early in the morning to do another taste taste on the old fashioned. I'm thankful that it's somewhat out of my way to drive to as I don't want to be tempted to get them as frequently as I'd want to! read more
